How About Bed and Breakfast To Go With That Glass of Texas Winery?"
What to Look For When Researching Bed and Breakfasts
By Poppy R Smith
Let me start by saying that I design websites for bed and breakfast providers. I have been inside many establishments, photographed them from all angles, sampled the food, experienced the difficulty of finding them if they are off the beaten track and spent time with their owners.

Sometimes I've felt like The Hotel Inspector. Sometimes I've buttoned my lip and said nothing, sometimes I've politely voiced my concerns. If I've spotted something amiss it's a pretty certain bet that guests will too and will be only too keen to say so on Trip Advisor or social media.

There's a clue in that last sentence if you are researching Bed and Breakfast providers. Look them up on Trip Advisor. What experiences have previous guests had?
Were the owners friendly and helpful, or did they act like they didn't want guests in their house?
Were the rooms and facilities clean and tidy? Was the location peaceful or were you looking onto a main road and a building site? Was the breakfast freshly cooked and generous?
Trip Advisor will tell you all this and more.
Take a look at how owners respond to negative comments. Remember, disgruntled guests and those who have to complain about the smallest thing are the ones most likely to post. Did their complaints seem valid and how did the owner respond?
I always tell my website clients that bed and breakfast customers shop with their eyes. Photos, photos, photos. Guests want to see what the place they are coming to looks like. What the rooms look like, what the shower rooms look like, what the view from their window will be, what the food looks like.
If those photos aren't on a provider's website, or they are grainy and out of focus, ask yourself why that might be? If the website hasn't been updated in years, might that tell you something.
In general, you get what you pay for. A B&B that costs 45 a night for 2 people probably won't be as smart or as spacious as one that charges 145 a night. Lower pricing doesn't have to mean that rooms are dirty and facilities don't work.
Look to see if the room(s) you are booking have their own en-suite facilities or have shared facilities. There seems to be an increasing trend in the UK for a roll top bath to be placed in the bedroom. If you are young and in love, you may be very happy to bathe together or to have your partner watching. But would you be so keen if you are two friends using the room as a twin room? Or parent and child sharing a room?
If you have pets - check that dogs are welcome. If in doubt, phone the owners and ask.
If you have young children, check that the B&B is child friendly. You don't want to find that the establishment doesn't accept children and have your holiday ruined. Respect those that don't accept children - they may have had a bad experience, they may have elderly owners, they may specifically run a child free establishment.
Look to see if breakfast is included in the price. Some establishments will offer a "room only" rate. This may be what you want if you are staying just one night and have an early start. Or maybe you are one of those people that simply doesn't eat breakfast.
Make sure you know what size the bed is. For some couples this isn't an issue, but if one or both of you is tall, or a little on the wide side, you may prefer a larger size double bed - king or super king size.
Check what facilities are offered in the bathroom. Some will have a bath with over bath shower. If you have mobility issues you may prefer a separate, walk-in shower. Make sure you read the owner's description and if in doubt, phone or email to check.
If you are a wheelchair user, or have another disability, again read the description carefully and if in doubt, contact the owner to ensure the establishment meets your needs.
Most B&Bs are happy to cater to special dietary requirements. Not telling the owner your special requirements until you sit down to breakfast leads to embarrassment. Most owners will want to meet your needs and will feel upset and embarrassed if they can't - advance notice ensures that the food your require will be available when you want it.
Check the location of the B&B. You may want peace and quiet in an isolated, rural location. Or you may want to stay somewhere that is more easily accessible to the local sights and doesn't involve a 10 mile drive up and down the valley to reach it each day. An online mapping service will usually give you a pretty accurate location and there may even be Street View so you can see the place where you are planning to stay.
In the UK there is one site that lists most of the accommodation local to a selection of small towns - B&Bs, self catering and hotels. Unlike other sites that list hotels nationwide, or self catering nationwide, this site focuses on listing all the accommodation in a defined local area.
Visit Stay Here, choose the town you want to stay in or near and then view all the local accommodation on one, handy, locally centered website.
3 Reasons To Ditch Traditional Hotels and Choose a Bed and Breakfast In Texas
By Kaitlyn LaPenn
If you are planning on taking a trip down south to the great state of Texas, then let us talk about accommodations for a minute. In a state this big, there is no shortage of hotels, motels, and, of course, the ever-popular B&B's. Hotels will do in a pinch, certainly, but these larger chains lack the charm and character that allow a bed and breakfast in Texas to serve as a bridge to the colorful history of the Lone Star state. Take a look at the following three reasons to opt instead for this quaint form of Southern hospitality.
1. Southern hospitality says it all!
Everyone knows everything is bigger and better in Texas, and the hospitality factor is no exception to the famous rule. In fact, the very definition of Texas, or Tejas, is "friendly." And as the most western, Southern state, you will experience the quaint charm that is often associated with the region. There is no better way to immerse yourself in the slower-paced, friendly culture than staying in lodging run by local residents who know the area. Most owners of a bed and breakfast in Texas stay in the same home and prepare the food. There are also extra perks you generally won't find in a larger hotel, like sweet tea, homemade quilts, free wi-fi and parking and older homes with beautiful architecture and a whole host of other amenities. The key is to find a smaller town, like Brenham, Cat Spring, or Nacogdoches. Or even larger cities like Austin, Houston and San Antonio will have B&Bs that feel like a small, welcoming town.
2. Connection to the past.
Many owners in Texas have a strong and proud connection to the history of the area in which they have settled. Many of these homes that serve as rentable lodgings act as the bridge between the past and the present. With homes in Texas dating back to the 1800s, many B&B's maintain the original carpentry and furnishings. Staying in one of these gems can offer you a fantastic glimpse into how life was in Texas. Washington County, especially, is known as the birthplace of Texas and towns like Brenham, LaGrange and Washington-on-the-Brazos feature lodgings that really focus on giving the visitor a window into the past.
3. Stay in the know for local events and festivals.
Almost every small (and big) town in Texas boasts at least one unique festival and a dozen interesting attractions and stellar restaurants. The key is to be aware of these attractions. This can be hard to do for someone who is not from the area. Since most bed and breakfasts in Texas are run by locals who are embedded in their communities, these lodgings are great spots from which to glean information. Also, bonus points to the traveler who books a home that is located conveniently near a town's attractions. This can save you some time if you find yourself in walking distance. Some B&B's in Texas will also offer discounts to local attractions in the area. Some people are surprised to learn that Texas has parts that are famous for its wine, like the wine trail in Washington County. Wine towns are especially good about offering perks related to wineries and wine trails. For more information, check with the local chamber of commerce or visitors bureau for recommendations. Some great festivals to keep in mind include the Burton, TX cotton gin festival, the annual Round Top Antiques fair, and, of course, the famous Washington-on-the-Brazos Independence Day Festival.
What to Look for When Researching Travel Accommodations
By Ron Barker
The world travels constantly. At any given time millions of travelers are checking into rooms that were recently used by someone else. Kind of a scary thought isn't it? Social media has participated in a major way to influence consumers to be far more informed about the quality of the accommodation they choose. Consumer sites like TripAdvisor, Google, and B&B.com to name a few provide quality information from consumer experiences that are regulated for true content before being published.
Of growing popularity are the small business entrepreneurs that own and operate bed and breakfast locations. The reason for emphasis on the individual business owner is that often they are also the operator and closely involved with daily procedures that affect the quality of accommodations the next guest will occupy. Small innkeeper entrepreneurs are a group that takes great pride in providing a service that will give customers a lasting impression. These consumers are more likely to take time to submit an honest review for future guests.
A bed and breakfast may utilize more locally originated suppliers to equip and supply the daily items used for guest comforts. Items like local, fresh in-season produce (strawberries, peaches, and apples, etc.) are amenities you won't find at the large hotels. Often they employ high quality chefs to provide a multi course breakfast you won't find anywhere else. In-room amenities are often provided for guests' comfort and are equal to or exceeding premium hotels in much busier high traffic locations. B&Bs in their own, while likely costing a little more per night are a good value providing a quality breakfast; likely cooked fresh.
Consumers who are planning traveling accommodations will benefit by consulting several reviews from over a period of time; not just the most recent. Travelers leaving reviews often make comments of the quality of cleanliness, hospitality, and overall quality of their visit. While recent reviews are good, if they are consistently favorable this is a good indication that the facility is maintaining a good practice.
Many locations have convenient reservation services on the home page of their website. While this is efficient, taking a couple of minutes to speak with someone (like the owner or general manager) is also a good indicator of the quality. It's OK to ask detailed questions if you want to know their housekeeping practices. For example, if guests have dietary preferences, by reaching to management in advance of arrival, often their needs can be accommodated, making their visit much more personable and memorable.
In Morocco, there is a style out ancient homes that have been turned into delightful small, boutique hotels called Riads.

Built with mud and clay, these dwellings are almost imperceptive from the outside except for a small door, but once you enter - a feast for the senses awaits you! With trees, flowers and fountains, there is a courtyard open to the sky, surrounded by rooms on all four sides.
Generally, the kitchen and relaxation areas are on the ground floor. In Morocco, they often use the living room couches as beds at night.

On the upper floors, small rooms for sleeping are found, with balconies overlooking the courtyard.
Privacy is not really valued in Morocco, except between the genders so women and girls would have their own room, and boys and men theirs are well, except for married people, with very few possessions besides clothes and perhaps jewelry.
Visionaries have turned these ancient dwellings into hotels that are absolutely delightful to experience. They have reworked them with the most beautiful tile work and tapestries, accoutrements and fabrics. There is a timeless luxury that feels divine!
Traditional riads are mostly found in the old cities, or Medinas, of the cities. As you walk the cobbled streets, you're literally walking between blank walls, but behind those walls there is an amazing hidden world, thriving homes full of cooking and play.
As you explore the city during the day, you can get a feel for the rhythm of life in Morocco, with hawkers and acrobats and an unimaginable array of exotic crafts, food, scents and design. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the variety of colors and sounds and scents... so when you return to your riad at night, you drink in the mystical peace and quiet, relaxing and unwinding after your exciting day of exploration.
Fez is an ancient center of knowledge and spirituality. It's well over a thousand years old, and has the "largest car free zone" in any city of the world due to it's narrow cobbled streets. Your competition is donkey carts (watch your step!) and hawkers of cookies and sweets.
Marrakesh is an ancient desert oasis in the middle of the country, nestled up against the High Atlas Mountains. Using Marrkesh as a base, you can explore the Berber villages up high in the mountains, or take a day trip to Essaouira on the coast, or spend your days wandering the ancient market, called a Souk, to find your perfect souvenirs.
Everyone who visits Morocco raves about it! When are you going to come and find out what the hype is all about?
Five Things To Know When You Stay At A Texas Winery Bed and Breakfast
By Morris Raymond
Some might argue that having a vivid imagination may be one of the most powerful tools mankind has at its disposal.

As such, someone must have let their mind wander to beautiful place so that they could conceive of an idea as intriguing as a Texas winery bed and breakfast fans could call their "home away from home".

Wait, what? A winery in Texas that also serves as a bed and breakfast? There's no conceivable way that this could be a viable thing, right? Actually, you may be both shocked & thrilled to learn that it is most certainly a thing and a very popular weekend getaway option for many people. Leave it to the state of Texas to take to heart the idea of showcasing two major industries in the state (wine production and tourism) at once. Still, if you understand Texas, this actually makes a lot of sense.
Texas has seemingly always been a state of contrasts. While Texas became a state in the U.S. in 1845, it later broke away toward the Confederacy during the Civil War. Before 1845, it was also a separate country for a time after having gained independence from Mexico. Texas is also the birth place of two U.S. presidents (Lyndon B Johnson & Dwight. D. Eisenhower), but it is well-known for two other presidents' connection to the state (George H.W. Bush & George W. Bush).
When you look at the wine industry, Texas even finds a way to have contrasts there as well. One would assume that with the heat Texas is famous for, grape harvesting would be hurt more, but it turns out cold temperatures & a lack of water that cause greater harm. Wine in Texas is a billion-dollar industry, and it's competing with the more well-known markets in the U.S. and the world. With such a financial draw, wineries realized that if they could combine two industries (wine & hospitality), it could be a great thing for them.
If you decide to check out a Texas winery B&B, here are a few things to know before you head out:
Price Varies - Every winery B&B has its own prices, so be sure to check online or call for information before booking.
Place of Business - While you're not having to get behind the wheel after drinking, you're also in a place of business with others. Be mindful of your behavior.
All-in-One for Tastings, Classes, and Meals - If you & your special someone are wine fans, booking a stay at a winery B&B is a great way to learn about all phases of wine production.
Experience More - Lodging on the same grounds, which means you can explore more of what the winery has to offer, which often include collaborations with local industry. As the slogan goes, "Keep it Local".
Book Early - Winery B&Bs are exploding in popularity (bookings averaging 2-3 months in advance), and with the Texas tourism industry bringing in tens of billions of dollars annually, you may want to act fast.
The Texas winery bed and breakfast trend may be more than just a flash in the pan. This could be the next big thing, and as they say, "Everything's bigger in Texas!"
Even the Happiest Places Surrender to Natural Disaster
By Nav Krish
The excitement of an upcoming theme park vacation is quite unique by nature. It's something that is never felt before. Something that keeps building up until the day we actually visit the favourite parks. And in most cases, chances are we often ends up with a memorable experience unlike any other.

However, there are instances when the weather god plays spoil-sport, pouring cold water to our plans and anticipations. Not that the theme parks are reluctant to take quality preventive measures for the guests, but it's the nature of the unpredictable weather that makes things too difficult for vacationers. Whether it's the advent of a sudden rainstorm or an un-bearable warm spell, the change will have a direct impact on your vacation for sure.

It's hard to imagine even the happiest and most magical places can succumbed to the natural forces. Like many others, the Central Florida theme parks are not strangers to natural compulsions and attacks. In fact the parks had seen situations that had compelled guests to cancel or postpone their most anticipated vacation plans in the past and probably in the future as well. Yes, I feel sad to know that guests are left stranded with unfulfilled dreams. When the pre-vacation homework is done and when you are so close to the day of your actual trip, the news of a bad weather is the last thing you don't want to hear. Worst still, a natural disaster like the Hurricane is a complete setback in this regard. The sunshine state is a victim of the wild coastal wind in the past, including the tropical storm Fay that had kept the parks soaking for days along with the rest of the areas in the State.
The September 2017 disaster is a major setback in the history of theme parks. Hurricane Irma - a category 4 storm with wind speed of about 150 miles per hour hits Florida leaving millions powerless. Several vacations were halted and plans rescheduled, dreams fall apart. Hurricane Irma takes the biggest toll at a time when the Parks are having the best of fall festivities and events such as the Disney World's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, or the Nation's premier Halloween Event - The Halloween Horror Nights Fest at Universal Orlando and other popular Halloween events at SeaWorld and Busch Gardens.
We are all passionate about the theme parks and Resorts here in Orlando, Florida. They are the most impeccable renderings of our dreams and imaginations. They are the sources to some of the most memorable and extraordinary moments of our life. And I believe they will continue to entertain us no matter how big or how devastating a disaster seems to be. Hurricane Irma did hit the theme park resort area. But it seems the impact is limited to a few downed trees and power lines, else the parks are all good.
Nice Places to Visit in Ghana
By Isaac Nunoofio
Ghana is located on the west coast of Africa. It is the birthplace of Kofi Annan, the former UN Secretary-General, and a major producer of cocoa beans, which is used to make the delectable chocolates you enjoy. The people are very hospitable. There are many nice places to visit in Ghana, if you are thinking of where to have your honeymoon, spend your vacation, learn about other cultures, or go for an adventure.

Let us look at some of the great places to visit in Ghana.
Nice Places to Visit in Accra, Ghana
Accra is the capital city of this wonderful country. It is a sprawling, vibrant city, buzzing with human and vehicular activity, and home to about three million people. It is one of the places to visit in Ghana, West Africa.

One nice place you can visit in Accra is either the La Beach or Coco Beach, where you can beat the heat of the city with an enjoyable swim in the Atlantic ocean whilst the golden rays of the tropical sun bathe you, and as birds cry out aloud over you in the sky.
From there, you can visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the final resting place of the first president of Ghana. You will have the opportunity to learn more about this great man as well as see photos he took with other great men and women, such as John. F. Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Alec Hume and so on.
Nice Places to Visit in Ghana's Western Region
Have you ever seen a whole village sitting on a lagoon before? Well, there is one in Ghana! This village, known as Nzulezu, is located in the Western Region of Ghana, and is one of the places to see in Ghana, Wes Africa. This exceptional, quiet fishing village is built entirely on stilts. There are no brick and mortar buildings here.
If you are adventurous, you can hire a canoe and experience the thrill of rowing to this remote village. You will enjoy the warm weather there as well as the warmth of the villagers. If you want to sleep overnight, you will be given accommodation in a stilt house. You will enjoy the peace this place has to offer.
Places to See in Kumasi
In the heart of the Ashanti Kingdom you can find Kumasi, Ghana's second city. Known as the "Garden City", it is the home of culture and tradition in Ghana. You can visit the Komfo Anokye sword, located in front of the Komfo Anokye hospital, in the center of the city.
This mystical sword was stuck in the ground by a fetish priest about 400years ago. He predicted then that the Ashanti Kingdom would collapse if that sword is pulled out of the ground. Many people have visited this sword and tried to pull it out, but the strange thing is that as you try to pull it out, it sinks deeper into the ground.
You can have a go at the sword and see whether you can pull it out. Who knows, you may be the one ordained to break up the Ashanti Kingdom!
Places to See in Tamale
Tamale is a dry, dusty town located in the Northern Region of Ghana, in the north of the country. Most of the inhabitants are farmers, and a few people engage in petty trading. You can learn about the culture of the many different tribes which coexist peacefully in this town.
You will enjoy the taste of their delicious tuozaavi, a meal prepared with sorghum powder, when you try it. You can also take a bicycle ride in the hot sun. Furthermore, you can observe smock weavers at their trade, creating beautiful, cottony smocks from cotton. You can buy one smock as a gift for your loved one.
From Tamale, you may take a trip to the Mole National Park, a world of adventure and excitement, where you can see a variety of animals, including monkeys, leopards, elephants, and hyenas. Experience the thrill of walking through the park or driving through to see some of these animals at close hand.
The Paga Crocodile Pond
Have you ever sat on a crocodile before? You can experience this when you visit the Paga crocodile Pond, located further north of Tamale. Get this once in a life-time experience. You do not need to fear that the animals will harm you. These crocodiles are sacred and so coexist peacefully with humans without harming them.
Conclusion
There are other nice places to visit in Ghana, such as the Ntonso craft village, the scenically-beautiful Lake Bosomtwi, the Asantehene's palace (home of the Ashanti King), and the Kakum National Park. But above all these, the warm, friendly people of Ghana look forward to your visit so that they can say to you "Akwaaba"-Welcome!
The 4220 ft. elevation offers the potential for snow. As soon as the San Diego news forecasts it, media trucks show up and newspeople check into the local lodge to open the morning report with scenes of fresh snow. And then, the tourists come...
"Snow Pie Flies" is the term for tourists who rush up the mountain to experience the white stuff. Then, everyone taste tests the pies that Julian is known for and flies back home. It is famous for apple pies but peach, cherry and mountain berry are all popular.
Do not miss the artwork. Native Americans sew leather pieces which are incredible. Medicine bags are worn by many and are inspired by members of the Kumeyaay tribe who live on nearby reservations.
Spears and walking sticks are hand carved and ornately decorated. When puma prints were found on my property, one of the Santa Ysabel Indians left a lion-killing spear leaning on my door. It was beautiful but had four eagle feathers on it which only a native American is allowed to have. For me, it was a crime to possess the piece and each feather called forth a $10,000. fine by the Fish and Game Department so I gave it back.
My first winter on the mountain, I almost starved. I got caught in my cabin with no food when a snowstorm hit that kept me trapped at home for 5 days. I even ran out of cat food and me and my critters lived on rice until I could walk in knee-deep snow to town.
The local natives tried to teach me to hunt but when I found out that we would be crouching up in trees all night waiting for wild pigs to come by, I backed out. They wanted to strap a knife to my leg so I could drop down on Porky Pig and slit its throat. I declined the offer but am still impressed they thought I would be able to participate.
Nothing goes to waste here. The pagans even eat the road kill. Don't ask about "deer Monday." That happens when the tourists hit the deer by the lake and the pagans skin and eat it. I went to dinner with a pagan who spotted a deer on the side of the road. He pulled over, covered it with brush and took me home so he could go back and get it.
The town of Julian has many layers. Week-enders and 'snow pie flies' may not absorb the rituals and ways of mountain people. It takes time and patience to allow this historic place to unfold. Even Sage doesn't work right away to clear energy. Spending time in the nearby missions is a great way to start a journey through these magic mountains.
Manali Leh Highway: Travel This Danger Road
By Dennis Donaldson
The Manali-Leh Highway (more of a road) is one of the most dangerous yet beautiful roads one will ever travel. I have had the humbling pleasure of traveling this road multiple times when traveling in the NW Himalaya in India. Leh is the northern end of the road in Jammu and Kashmir, while Manali is the southern end of the road in Himachel Pradesh.

One awesome thing about it is you experience so many different environments as you travel from one end to the other. With a length of approximately 300 miles, this road will fill your camera with memories and sights you should cherish forever.

About Manali
Manali is a lush city in the heart of the Kullu Valley. It is a prominent stop for those traveling to the northern extents of the Indian Himalaya. Here you can find pretty much all you need for a journey, driver, supplies, food... anything. The sites are awesome as well, of course it depends on the time of year. The Kullu Valley is in the orographic front (rainy side) of the regional mountain range. This in turn leads to a great accumulation of clouds at 6000 feet up. When the sun does peer its bright head through, take notice and snap pictures. Manali also sits on the west side of the Beas River. Its drainage basin is a respectable 7800 square miles. If you're on your way to Leh, don't pass this place up.
About Leh
Leh is the capital of the previous empire of Ladakh, currently incorporated in the province of Jammu and Kashmir. As stated before it sits at about 3500m elevation. This area is arid, very arid. Luckily there is greenery nestled throughout the city. Very little rain falls here but that doesn't mean the occasional catastrophic flood doesn't occur. There was a terrible one in 2010. So be careful in the summer months. The Indus River flows south of the city, entering into Pakistan, finally dumping its waters in the Indus River Basin and the Indian ocean.
Some could say that it is the tourist capital of northern Indian. There is so much trekking opportunities here that that title is indeed fitting. Unless you stay away from the main roads of Leh you will be exposed to the tourism ecosystem that is thriving there. There is nothing you should want for in Leh, there is internet, hotels, restaurants, souvenirs, trekking companies, personal drivers and more. If you are looking to be adventurous you should try to procure the help of a someone who is not from Leh but speaks very good English for your sake. Enlist them as a guide and they will be a tremendous help.
So back to the Manali-Leh Highway (MLH) Manali to Rohtang
I will start summarize some of the best things to look out for on the Manali-Leh road from and south to north trajectory. Leaving Manali, you will begin to ascend to Rohtang Pass. which is roughly 4000m (13,000&prime). This is why I cautioned the slow ascent. Dabas and little villages will be passes all along the way. One thing you have to worry about is stoppage due to traffic or a rock fall blockage (happens often), so if you're headed this way leave early. Before reaching Rohtang pass there is a small stop called Marhi, from there is an trail that leads west to a Dashaur lake, a popular resting stop for many trekkers and caravans traveling the MLH. Once you make it to Rohtang pass, you will look upon the Chandra River valley. Take time to stop and acclimate, you are about to descend into the valley.
Riding along the Chandra River
Fairly, quickly you will be crossing the Chandra River to its north side and heading NW towards Sissu, and Tandi. These are very small villages with dabas and homestays present. The best thing to do here is look south to the south Chandra Valley wall. Glaciers, spectacular geologic folds and more can be observed. At Tandi is the confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers. Along the south flowing Bhaga is where the MLH continues northward to Keylong. Keylong is an important city as it serves as the biggest stop between Manali and Leh. Refueling, restocking rations and exchanging money are all essential tasks that can be cone in Keylong.
All around this area are trails that connect inter-mountain villages via the tributaries of the Bhaga. There is an abundance of trekking opportunities outside the main touristy ones. Jispa and Darcha are north of Keylong and are small but culturally interesting. take a stop and see one of the many Himachel men with their unique attire, and fashionable hats.
Ascent to Baralacha La (pass)
From Darcha you will ascend continuously up to Baralacha La which is roughly 5000m. Additionally, there are lakes that you will pass that are fed from glacial run off from regional peaks. Again, you should take caution up to this pass and take stops if needed since it is so high up. Side not before you reach the pass you will pass Zingzingbar. This is a small camp charged with the duty of keeping Baralacha roads well maintained. If you get a chance stop by.
Down from Baralacha La you well descend towards Sarchu, another important rest stop nestled near the confluence of the Yunam River and the Tsarap Chu River. It is the border town of Himachel Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. If you're lucky enough to arrive here in the day time, you will see beautiful geologic folds to the north west across the Yunam. Take time to take in Sarchu before heading back up slope towards Lachalung La.
Lachalung La
Lachalung La is the third pass since Manali, and it is approximately as high as Baralacha La. The same cautions apply here as others, take your time. I've seen bikers take this route and they almost always have to rest to acclimate properly. From here, things begin to really change environmentally as you enter into a more arid area. Most of the moisture you will see here comes from snow, and glacial run off. The descent from Lachalung La is pretty steady all the way down to Pang, and back up to Pang La (4800m), north from here you enter further into Jammu and Kashmir, an arid beauty.
Tso Morari and Tso Kar
This stretch of the MLH is scenic and also has trekking opportunities all around, because to the east lies the popular Tso Morari and Tso Kar lakes. Two uniquely beautiful lakes surrounded by various geologic rock types. Northward is Tanglang La which is touted as the worlds second highest motorable pass. It is a humbling 5,328 m. Ascending to this pass should be done slowly and with caution as cloud cover, switch backs and glacial run off will be common. Upon reaching the pass you will see a rest stop with prayer flags (most passes have prayer flags).
Prayer flags are needed
Downward you will have switch backs and may even see transport trucks that have fallen down the slope of the mountain. This is a very dangerous stretch of road. From there you will descend into what is known as the Indus Suture zone. This diffuse region marks the boundary of where the Indian continent collided with the Asian continent approximately 50 million years ago. Here you will see rock layers rotated by tectonics into vertical columns and occasional goats hehe. Its simply beautiful. Miru and cross a short cross over the Indus river to Upshi, will send you on the home stretch to Leh. Here you will see rocks of the Ladakh Batholith to the north and the rocks of the Indus suture zone to the south. From here you follow the Indus river NW towards Leh.
Temples Of Chiang Mai Thailand
By Phillip Whitehair
If you don't have time or the energy to visit all 300 temples, there are definitely some must see temples, which should be on your list. Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Chiang Man, & Wat Phan Tao are beautiful temples located within the city walls & all three temples can easily be visited in one day.

Another awe-inspiring temple & most visited is the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, but this temple requires a journey up a mountain road & 309 step walk to reach the top of the temple.

The Temple Of Wat Chedi Luang
Wat Chedi Luang is definitely not flashy, shiny, or gold plated, but it's definitely are-inspiring. Built in 1441, Wat Chedi Luang stands as one of the largest ancient structures in Chiang Mai. The temple was a little bit taller until ether an earthquake or cannon fire during the recapture of Chiang Mai from the Burmese in 1775 destroyed the top of the chedi.
The temple has 4 sides, each with a staircase guarded by mythical Naga creatures. Midway up the stairs located on one section of the temple, there are beautifully sculpted stoned elephants stand guard overlooking the grounds. Besides the towering & awe-inspiring Chedi, the temple grounds contain two viharns, which are structures used for ceremonies & worship.
The first viharn, which is used as an assembly hall is a large, beautiful building with a three tiered roof, & gold plated on the front. Inside the building stands a large Buddha, which dates back to the time of when the temple was constructed. The second viharn is much smaller, but equally impressive & stunning. The entrance leading into the viharn is elegantly decorated with intricate wood carvings & guarded by large Nagas, which are mythical snake like creatures.
A Much Needed Break After The Craziness Of Bangkok & Pattaya
After spending 10 days between Bangkok & Pattaya, I needed to slow down & take a break. The much needed slow down started with the 14 hour train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, which I highly suggest. Upon arriving in Chiang Mai, I instantly noticed the city was much greener, there were zero skyscrapers, & everything was much more low key.
My stay in Chiang Mai was only three days, but I made sure one of those days was dedicated to visiting some of Chiang Mai's awe-inspiring temples. The first day I hired a tuk tuk & was taken to Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Chiang Man, & Wat Phan Tao. Wat Chedi Luang & Wat Phan Tao are adjacent, which provides two stunning temples within a short walk of each other.
All three temples should definitely be on your list! Over the course of three days, I visited more than 10 temples. A short walk from my hotel & it felt like there was a temple on every corner. After the craziness of Bangkok & Pattaya, the low key environment of Chiang Mai & its temples, definitely provided a much needed break. The temples of Chiang Mai are definitely worth a visit & something everyone should see if there visiting Thailand.
My name is Phillip Whitehair, I quit my job in 2016 & started traveling around the world. I've been lucky enough to travel all over Asia! I was lucky enough to check out Ream National Park in Cambodia, which still is one of my highlights in Asia.
I support myself online & want to inspire others to hit the road & travel. Anyone can hit the open road & experience life, you just need to make it happen. That road you travel could be the road leading into Ream National Park!
One Crazy Day On Coral Island In Pattaya, Thailand
By Phillip Whitehair
A Speed Boat, No Padded Seats, 4 Scared Passengers, & Possible Kidnapping!
After our nail biting motor bike ride from the Centera Grand Resort to Bali Hai Pier, I was looking forward to the relaxing ferry boat ride to Coral Island. We had our bottle of vodka, some orange juice, & everything needed for a relaxing ride.

As my friend Drew & I walked down the pier towards the ferry, a man approached & offered a round trip charted speed boat for 600 baht total "$20.00". There would be no relaxing time drinking our vodka on the ferry boat ride, we decided to take the chartered speed boat instead.

As we were lead to the chartered speed boat, I noticed the boat definitely seen its better days! There were around 8 additional passengers also heading to Coral Island. We got seated in the front of the speed boat, & were handed some very old life jackets. I noticed some of the passengers giggling & talking with the captain, which I assumed was because of the hot pink colored life jackets handed to us. As we start our trip to the island, it quickly became apparent this was not going to be a relaxing ride.
The ocean was choppy, the captain was going full throttle, & our seats were wooden with absolutely no padding. After getting some air off one of the waves & slamming my tailbone into the seat & hitting my forearm into the handrail, I quickly realized I needed to hold onto the bottle of vodka & be very careful it doesn't break. After 20 minutes of hauling ass over the rough seas & holding onto the bottle for dear life, I thought we reached our destination. We pull up to the side of very large boat & quickly started getting slammed.
The captain was having issues securing the lines, which was causing the two boats to slam against each other. After a few tense moments, the captain was able to secure the lines. He quickly rushed most of the other passengers dangerously off the back of the boat onto the larger boat. Assuming this was our destination, we walked towards the back of our boat to climb aboard the larger boat. We approached with the last two remaining passengers, but the captain started shouting & waving everyone back & looked angry.
Without giving an explanation the captain gunned the engines towards the ocean. I only grew concerned when I glanced over towards the local Thai ladies & noticed they were concerned by their facial expressions. As we head further into the ocean, I glance over at Drew & attempt small talk. Drew was growing more concerned by the minute & basically ignored my attempt at small talk. As I grow more concerned, the boat suddenly banks left & hundreds of boats & other travelers come into view. We were safe, not kidnapped, & finally about to open the bottle.
Finally The Bottle & Relaxation!
Upon exiting the speed boat & walking towards the beach, we were greeted by a women who lead us to some lawn chairs. The lawn chairs were placed under large tents along the entire path of the beach. The cost per lawn chair is 100 Baht each "$3.00" & this came with one small table. There were food stalls & souvenir shops including a variety of shops offering different activities. At this moment our only concern was getting some more alcohol into our system.
We sat down & had some shots, bought some BBQ chicken, & reluctantly agreed to my first & last manicure. I'm not a big fan of people touching my feet & the lady accidentally clipping a chuck of my small toe with the clippers did not help the situation. Besides getting a chuck of my small tow clipped off, which Drew found humorous, Coral Island was a great escape from the craziness of Pattaya. We relaxed, ate some food, went swimming, & rode some motor bikes around the island.
When the allotted time came & went for our charted speed boat to arrive, we began to wonder if we were left behind on the island. After one hour passed from our departure time & not seeing the other two passengers, I decided to relax on a lawn chair & watch Drew squirm on the beach. It was around 90 minutes passed our departure time when the chartered speed boat finally arrived.
A Perfect Crash To Finish The Perfect Day!
After a fun & relaxing day at Coral Island, we were heading back to the craziness of Pattaya. We arrived in Bali Hai Pier & exited the speed boat with only 200 baht between the both of us. We were half-way to our hotel & each 20 baht short for individual motorbike taxis. We decided to put our money together & take one motorbike for 200 baht. Based on the days events, I should have known this would not end smoothly, but sometimes you need to learn things the hard way.
Theme Parks Are Sensitive to National Tragedies Too
By Nav Krish
Theme Parks are the greatest source of fun and entertainment in life. No other places in the world can re-create such amazing experiences. Their biggest asset is creativity, and perhaps I think there is hardly a sight or area within the parks that are left without the creative aspect. Creativity is the last thing that they want to part with.

While it seems they are willing to sacrifice anything for their uniquely creative offerings, they are sensitive to national tragedies as well. When tragedies strike the Nation, such as the Las Vegas Shooting in this case, the parks have the courage to change their most popular experiences too. At Universal Orlando it's the Nation's premier Halloween Event that makes the most notable move. Not that the Park is shutting down its most happening event (Halloween Horror Nights Fest) all together, but it shows some sensible solidarity by striking out a major chunk of the content from the popular show - Bill and Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure at the 2017 event.

The 2017 Bill & Ted show is set on a mega festive platform where the two boys put up an epic festive show. But the Grim Reaper is prompted to kill everyone at the festival. An epic Halloween adventure follows with the host Bill and Ted go at length to save pop culture and the audience. But after the Las Vegas tragedy, the Show has a different story to consider. Instead of the multi-day mega festival it's just a simple concert featuring the Wyld Stallyions. And the Grim Reaper is no more a threat to pop culture or the audience. He is only after the two boys after all.
Though the Show is not alien to changes before. But the change that follows the Tragedy is the biggest of them all in the history of the Show. For die-hard fans, it may be difficult to digest. I think an abrupt twist or tweak to the concept definitely ends up with an experience not as anticipated. There are cases, where change in storyline triggers a new experience altogether. But in Bill and Ted's case, probably the excitement and fun suffers to a certain extent. But then it's for a cause and Universal Orlando is sensitive to larger situations. The resort is good in giving away one of its best offerings. Truly, it shows its direct response to a greater suffering at a time when the Nation is hit by a tragedy leaving behind 59 dead and nearly 500 injured.
Truth Behind the Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan
By Mayank Kumar Saini
Located in the state of Rajasthan, in the NorthWest Part of India, is the city of Bhangarh. It is a famous tourist place to visit in Rajasthan for two reasons: historical remains of Fort Bhangarh, an abandoned town built in 1573;

and for being the only city in India recognized by the Government as officially haunted.

Bhangarh is situated on the edge of Sariska National Park, a natural reserve of tigers, very close to the city of Delhi. The historic city of Bhangarh is walled and is known as Fort Bhangarh. Its ruins are well-known and recognized as the most haunted site in India. Within the grounds are temples to various Hindu deities such as the temple of Shiva, Mangla Devi, Keshava Rai, Shiva, Gopinath, Naveen and Lavina Devi. To access this city, there are five gates, Ajmeri, Delhi, Lahori gate, Phulbari and Bhoot Bangla. Explore all these sites with Rajasthan tour packages to make your holidays memorable.
Apparently, there are two Bhangarh fort haunted stories:
The first account that Balu Nath, a kind of local guru or monk, warned his rulers that if a single shadow of the castle built near his temple touched his body, the city would cease to be so. Apparently, there was a temple before the construction of one of the castles which shaded its towers at a particular time of day. The guru cursed the city until the result was to leave it empty.
The second tells the story of the Princess Ratnavati of Bhangarh, who at the age of 18 organized an event to choose her life partner, but a dark and evil magician was in love with her. The magician who used black magic was called Singhia; one day he saw that the beautiful princess was buying oil for her palace, Singhia spelt Black words that anyone who touched the oil will turn into a stone. Princess realized his intentions and spilt the oil on the magician. The oil turned to stone and crushed the evil magician, but before his death, the magician uttered a few words and cursed the whole city.
There is no written evidence of the existence of the princess or the famous magician.
After their final abandonment, the buildings were not restored, something that is not common in the country, but this reinforced the belief that the city is enchanted. The locals believe that all those people who died tragically continue to overpower the place.
The city of Bhangarh is one of the most visited cities by tourists from all over the country, perhaps thanks to the legends. The certainty is that now Bhangarh has a law, the government prohibited it from being visited since the sun falls until leaving the same the next day. Being abased during the day but returning all its empty walls at night.
Saving Money on a Villa Rental
By Kent J Thompson
Shop Around
Don't be in a hurry to reserve the first one you come across. You may be fearful it will be gone when you look again later. It is true, villa options do book quickly.

Yet it is better to hold out and find what you really want than to pay for a place you won't really enjoy staying at. Shop around and you will find what you want. Be patient and it falls into place.
Repeat Customer

If you have rented a particular villa before, you may be able to get it at a discount for being a repeat customer. Many of the property owners like to rewards those that give them plenty of business. This is a token of appreciation. You may be able to earn such savings for repeat visits as well as referring other people to stay there.
Package Deals
Consider getting your villa, flights, and your transportation all in a package offer. This is going to be less expensive for you than buying each item on its own. You should be able to customise the package too in order to make it exactly what you want. You will be able to see how different choices influence your overall price. This can make it possible to travel.
Off Season
The villa options are in high demand in the spring and summer months. Visit during the fall and winter and you will save quite a bit for the same location. In fact, you may enjoy this time of year more. There will be fewer people around and you can get a break from the colder temperatures for you reside.
You can also save a bit by staying in the villas during the week. When your vacation plans include the weekend, it will increase the prices due to the demand for those days of the week. Holidays are the most expensive times so avoid them if you want to get a great place to stay for less. You may be able to get the best villa out there for a very small price.
Promo Codes
Always take the time to open up a second browser on your computer when you see a promo code offer. This is a discount code you will copy, paste, and see instant savings. They amount may be a certain dollar value or a certain percentage. Sometimes, the value is a free upgrade so don't bypass this simple step. It only takes a few minutes of your time to do so.
Share Expenses
Villa costs can be lower if you go with a larger place and share the expense. For example, if you are traveling with another family, get a large place rather than you eat paying for a medium sized villa. By sharing the cost, you all get the perks but the amount each household pays out of their pocket is reduced.
Make sure you are going with people you can reasonably stay with and not have issues. You don't want to save money but then have concerns over living arrangements or differences in behaviours. The overall goal of coming here is to always relax and have a great time. Avoid any situations that could be stressful.
You don't have to look further than http://www.ManuelAntonioRentalProperties.com in order to find the ideal place to secure your vacation accommodations. How To Pick The Right Luxury Condo For A Multi-Family Ski Vacation
By Morris Raymond
Choosing the right luxury condo for a family ski vacation can be a tough task even for the well-versed traveling family. When you decide to up the ante and have multiple families travel together, the difficulty factors grows immensely, quickly making what should be a fun time planning a family getaway into an arduous task.

Herein lies the quandary because you're supposed to be at your most 'chill' when thinking about a vacation, yet your stress levels are starting to rise.

Take notes from travel experts around the world that say that finding the right 'home-base' for a multi-family ski vacation simply takes a few general steps you would take even if you were only planning for a single family jaunt. The key is planning ahead and understanding the nature of compromise.
The first step in finding the right luxe setting for your getaway is finding out when everyone can actually travel. The idea of a big vacation is exciting, and plans can get big & adventurous, but if everyone has to travel at different times of year, it is just not going to happen. It is also important for families involved to have multiple options to travel. Only having a "it's this or nothing" approach to setting travel plans with others is not a good way to make plans, but it certainly is not a great way to create camaraderie and goodwill. Perhaps the biggest reason for having a few options as to when to travel is cost. If you would like to ski, you need snow. Good skiing snow can be available in parts of the country (and world) for a large portion of the year. Traveling during an off-peak season can be a major way to save big bucks.
Next, get together the decision makers in the families involved and find out what type of amenities are being requested by everyone. Not every family is the same, and since you all have to share a space, it's good to know everyone is comfortable with their surroundings. One other reason to consider amenities that satisfy a number of needs for multiple families is that it helps with researching resorts. The advent of the internet has allowed interested parties to casually look over what ski resorts have to offer their guests. Luxury condos have the added pizzazz of being able to cater to the finer needs of their guests. As a vacation planner, knowing who has what in conjunction with a finalized amenity list can make researching luxury condos way easier.
Finally, any vacation planning must involve one final pivotal step to ensure everything is in order --- call to verify and finalize all of the details before you head out. In this day and age of digital interaction with online forms, it is incredibly easy to enter info & click away to your heart's content regarding the details of your stay. Sometimes, though, technology has a way of letting us know that it can sometimes fail, and nothing beats the satisfying confirmation of a human voice letting you know that everything is ready to go. All of the families set to travel can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they just need to pack & dream of the wonder that awaits them.
Truth be told, choosing a luxury condo for multiple families looking for a skiing getaway involves a few more steps, but the reason these simple steps are of importance is that they are often forgotten or only slightly of consequence. Taking the time to think ahead in the simplest ways is pivotal to making your multi-family ski getaway a rousing success.
Choose Vacation Rentals To Add Value To Your Vacation
By Satvik Mittal
Planning for your holidays? You must be quite excited to get some time away from the maddening pace of your lives, isn't it? One of the most challenging parts of your holiday planning is to look for places to stay at your destination. With lots of hotels in various budget ranges at your disposal, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to picking one from them.

However, hotels don't give you a personalised experience or flexibility to cook your meals. They are also quite costly when you book as a package as it includes your food and other service charges. This is where vacation rentals come as a huge blessing for you. What are they and how are they beneficial? Read on to know more about this.

Meaning
Vacation rentals are like serviced apartments where the owners rent out their homes to tourists in various destinations. Unlike hotels, these homes are fully furnished, and they give you a great deal of flexibility, in that, you can cook your meals, watch television, relax well and check out at a time that is convenient for you. The owners of these homes may or may not stay near their holiday properties.
Advantages of choosing vacation rentals
1. Comfortable ambience
The ambience provided in these holiday homes is simply incredible. You feel like you are staying at your house as you don't have to deal with unruly intruders, loud music or any type of indisciplinary behaviour that you might have had to experience from other guests if you had stayed in a hotel. Added to this, you are treated like family members by the owners of these homes, which makes your holiday a memorable experience for you.
2. Complete privacy
One of the main benefits of choosing vacation rentals is that it gives you complete privacy to enjoy your well-deserved break with your near and dear ones. You get access to the whole house and the amenities associated with it like the gym, swimming pool and the like. You don't have to share these resources with other guests like you always you do at the hotels. Want to enjoy your dinner in the garden? Cook your meals just the way you want it, bring the delicacies in the garden and enjoy a gala time with your family - this is something you will never be able to do in a hotel or a resort.
3. Cost Effective
Holiday homes do not charge you as much as the hotels. Hotel charges are exorbitant because you are charged for your rooms, infrastructure and amenities, irrespective of whether you use them or not. If you are travelling in a large group, hotel charges go over the top, as the management charges you extra for twin beds, extra beds, kids' beds, etc. These problems can be avoided when you choose vacation rentals as your accommodation choice. You are charged a fixed sum based on the duration of your stay, and you get unlimited access to the bedrooms, living room and other recreational facilities. This is the best choice when you are travelling as a large family.
If Langkawi is your next holiday destination, you don't have to worry about your accommodation at all. There are many Langkawi vacation rentals to choose from in this exotic destination. You need to book them well in advance as they get filled up quite fast, owing to their popularity among tourists from all over the world.

Main Points To Remember When Renting A Villa

Main Points To Remember When Renting A Villa
By Satvik Mittal
When planning a vacation, we do it with a lot of care and thought so that it is really worth the money and the time, precious time that we take away from our busy schedules for a purpose.

The purpose being to rejuvenate ourselves, have a change of scene from our daily routine with its stresses. A week to ten days is all that is required for a recharge.
One way to do this is to go to a new place, do a lot of sight seeing during the daytime and head back to the hotel in the evening to sleep. All you need is your hotel room key.

Better than this would be renting a villa in some scenic place and enjoy what they have to offer you to the fullest. This is not uncommon nowadays, because owners of the villas are finding this is a good way to earn an income from their houses, which are becoming difficult to maintain. All over the world, while villages get converted to towns, buildings also change. Individual cottages give way to apartment blocks so that in time, generations forget or do not experience what it is to live in a villa.
Compared to an apartment, a villa offers more rooms and spacious ones too. The older villas have high ceilings with quaint beams and ventilators and open verandahs running right around that are a novelty in their own, old fashion. All these invoke nostalgia for the older generation and are something quite delightful for the millennials. The newer villas have modern amenities. Almost all villas provide a swimming pool.
The open space outside the cottage is also to die for. Villa owners provide carefully tended gardens, tennis or badminton courts, vegetable gardens, etc. For their guests' recreation, some of them also display pet birds like ducks, geese, turkeys and roosters and animals like rabbits.
A villa is an ideal choice for a large family or group of friends holidaying together. Price wise, the more the number of people, the cheaper the cost per head becomes, because the price of renting a villa is fixed, irrespective of the number of people. Of course, there is a limit to the number of people. This way, one doesn't have to restrict oneself to the off season to economize on the cost.
What are the points which one has to remember when renting a villa?
Since the internet is used while planning holidays, it is best to go to a trusted website when booking your villa
Sometimes the owners post attractive pictures in order to draw attention, and these pictures may not be realistic. So it is a good idea to ask pointed questions about them before you rent the villa
Be ready to mix and mingle with the people in the neighborhood, a different experience from hotel locations.
Check for Wi-Fi connectivity if it is important
Check who will be available to help in case of breakdowns of any kind. A property manager should be on call.
Find out if there are bicycles for hire, and if all the equipment in the outdoors can be used.
A good rental agreement which is signed by both the owner and the holidayer is a good way to protect your interests.
If you are planning to cook, check for proximity to the shops for groceries etc.
These points will help you choose a villa for your next holiday. Goa villas for rent in India are a popular choice for a week of fun and sun on the beach. They offer world class amenities for your enjoyment and your week in Goa will never be forgotten.
