Entrecard Ramps Up Huge Changes

Entrecard has just added a bunch of great new features. Read about it here.

They have added support for multiple blogs. And they have written an Official E-book. So check that out.

I know I'll be moving from multiple to one account now.

Also if you need any Entrecard design done I will do a card for only 500 ec.!

Sorry about my little hiatus, but I'm back now.

Entrecard has changed it's homepage. I like it much better. Do you? Other than that not much has been going on with Entrecard.

Entrecard: Are you a Skeptic or a Devoted Follower?

I'm not sure what I am. I want to be devoted to Entrecard but I'm not sure it will last. I've heard some people who are very skeptical about it, and bash the traffic it sends. I want to say any traffic is good traffic.

What do you think? Do you love or hate Entrecard?

My "U Drop I Follow" Test, Hogwash

My test using the "U drop I follow" On my site went alright. Here are two thing I discovered:

1. It's a royal pain, it's really annoying to track every drop and then drop back. And I'm afraid I might be missing some drop too.

2. It doesn't drive that many more drops. It wasn't like some wave of increased dropping. I think if someone come to my site and they have Entrecard They'll probably drop it anyway.

Verdict: Wast of Time

Have you used techjoe.com's Entrecard slots? At first I kinda thought it was a joke. Until I won!

Seriously check this out. I think it's really a creative use of credits. He must have a ton of credits when you think about it. Has anyone else used this? What do you think? Have you won?

Entrecard Talks about new features.

The Entrecard blog has recently posted about some new features in the advertising search pages.

1. Colors you can get a gold upgrade in the shop, blue is already advertised there etc.

2. They've thrown in a sidebar for added usability.

3. some other stuff nothing much substantial.

Entrecard has been coming out with some new features recently. What do you think they should come out with next?

I think you should be able to send a message when you send someone credits. When you get credits you don't even know who the credits came from. I think that is a long needed improvement.

What does everyone else think?

Is "U Drop I Follow" Nonsense?

If some of you haven't noticed I've added a U drop I follow badge to my Entrecard. In other words if you drop your card on my widget I will drop it back.

I'm going to try it for about a week. I don't get to many drops so I think I should be able to keep up.

What do you guys think? Is it nonsense? No good?

Entrecard Price Change. Looks Like They Know What They're Doing.

Entrecard has announced a change in the pricing system.

It looks like Entrecard knows that they are dealing with a online currency and are taking the rights steps to preserve themselves, see Why Entrecard Might Fail.

Here's a portion of what they said on their blog:

"It’s going to go live within the next 24 hours. Just to be clear, we are talking about a complete change to the way everyone’s advertising prices are calculated.

Starting today, your ad price is determined solely by demand for your ad spot. Every time someone purchases, or applies to purchase an ad on your site, your price doubles. Every time an ad finishes running, your price halves.

To calculate your price at any given moment, just start at 2 credits, and double it for everyone waiting for an ad on your site. For example, if you have 5 people approved and stacked in the “On your widget” column of the dashboard, and 5 people waiting for approval, you would calculate 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2, or 2 to the power of 10, which equals 1024 credits. And then in 24 hours, when an ad has completed running, their price would go down to 512. If no one bought an ad that day, tomorrow it would go down to 256. And then if someone bought an ad for 256, the price would go back up to 512.

So the price will actually fluctuate with each ad that has been bought and each ad that completes. If no one has bought an ad on you in a while, your price will get very cheap very quick. And if you want to buy an ad on a high-profile blog, you’ll be able to whenever you want, as long as you have enough credits."

This seems like a fairly good thing. But are they taking card drops out of the equation? Will a drop be worth more?

If your price is extremely high or low right now, don't worry it will settle itself.

New Entrecard Features

Entrecard has recently added a few new features. Mainly being you can see how many times people have dropped their card on you on their profile. This is a nice feature, but I don't think it's a "huge" improvement.

Also they sort of sneakily added "Go! Go!", "Awesome", "Wicked" massages to the Entrecard widget every 50 drops.

Entrecard Has Hit 7000 Users

Entrecard announced that they now have 7000 users. While this doesn't seem like much compared to Facebook, Digg and the like. It's still a good accomplishments. Congrats to Entrecard for achieving 7000.

I hope to see many more user, because like many online services, the more users there are the better it works.

Part: 2 Using Branding in Your Entrecard

Another thing you will want think about when you are creating you Entrecard card is branding.

Why is branding important? Because, branding is what will let you get value out of an advertising, even if someone doesn't click on your card. If you use similar colors and logos to what you have on your blog, people will notice.

I'm not going to go into why branding is important, if you want to find more info on that go to www.problogger.net

So just make sure you are using similar colors and logos. I know you only have 125x125 px, but try to fit it in.

Is Entrecard a Money Maker?

Entrecard seems great as a blog promotion tool, but is it a serious money maker? Lets take a look at the facts.

So how much do Entrecard credits really sell for? On ebay I've seen 1000 go for $4-$8, or 5,000 go for as much as $35. So they don't sell that low, but that still isn't very much. The real question is how many Entrecard credits you are making in a day?

Most major blogs get 200-300 ec. a day. At 200 ec. a day you'll get around $5 a week. That not bad but it's not that much either.

On second thought that more than enough to pay for hosting. What do you guys think? Let be know!

Why Entrecard Might Fail

Entrecard is a website, community, service, whatever you want to call it. But it's built around one thing; Entrecard credits, or more commonly ec. And it's because the site relies on them that it might flop.

Entrecard credits are an interesting thing, something I think we are going to see more of in the near future, an online currency. Granted it's limited, and you may argue differently, but when you boil it down that's what it really is.

Why that might be a bad thing.

Like all currencies an online one will have similar problems, the one that comes to mind: Inflation. Think about it, if you're simply getting free ec. for dropping your card, and since those credits aren't being payed to you by anyone else, you have a problem, Inflation.

Over time as more, credits are just made (by dropping) there will be more credits in the system, making the worth of an ec. less. Making the pain of going to a site for just one credit not worth it.

Granted that there will be people who just abandon there accounts leaving credits unused, but as more people sign up for entrecard, this won't balance it out.

How this can be prevented

Thankfully this can all be remedied, but only by Entrecard. If they realize what they need to do, (raise the amount of credits for a drop, raise the drops to advertising cost ratio), and do them, Entrecard will be saved. Saved from an evident flop.

But don't get me wrong...

Now I have nothing against Entrecard, I think it is an awesome service paving the way for more online currency-type services. I just hope Entrecard knows what they have to do to save themselves. And maybe if we are lucky they had this all accounted for already.

Part 1: Catching Attention with Your Entrecard

There are a few thing you can do to make your Entrecard catch people attention when advertising. But the foremost thing you can do is have a good design.

Good design is a very difficult thing to do. If you don't have design skills you might want to get a professional designer to do it.

If your trying to make one yourself here are a few tips:

First, try to do more than just text. It all you have is text you card will look plain and bland. So adding some graphics is a great way to boost your card's appearance.

Second, make sure you do have text. I see so many Entrecards that are just a logo and I don't even bother clicking. Without text you have no way of communicating you message.

Quick Tips To Drive More Traffic with Entrecard

One big thing that you need to be driving traffic with Entrecard is a good card. Not just some text, but a card that catches attention.

A good card is made up of the ability to catch your attention, branding and message.

To catch attention you need a catchy phrase, name or graphic.

For branding you want the same color scheme and/or logo of your blog.

Lastly for message you need to communicate why people would want to read you blog.

This is just a short intro to making a good card, over the next week I will right a series of posts to help you make a better card.
