I'm happy to be able to tell I've met some great people.

But I've also seen that most are in dropping just for the statistics and nothing more.

After Corneyman's site took my good name so low, without even asking, I was flabbergasted.
But when I was reading the comments I felt sick.
The agression of people, the way they just follow him in the way he approaches his problem.

Cleaning up my adgitize list was one step, seeing into the efforts to do some good for others is the next.

I'm sure it won't be a problem.
Just a handful of entrewas members reached out a hand when I needed one.
Only two really wanted to take an effort.

I want to thank those and give you a big smile.

As you maybe know each day I dedicate hours for autism awareness and to inform people about everything they want to know.

The past weeks I've tried to motivate people to take a graphic on their site, but people don't care to do so.

I don't mind illmminded people to attack others in a socalled exposure. And in a way I don't mind that there are people who can't think for themselves and just go mindless the path someone else leads.

But I do mind the heartlessness of not caring for a boy who shouldn't be kept in a psychiatric ward for 21 days when the doc there says he's doing nothing wrong.
I do mind when people don't care for another family who face the future of never seeing their son back in his own safe home, where he was happy.

So to those it concerns: enjoy yourselves in your world of statistics and page impressions.

And those who care:

To all who celebrate Thanksgiving: have a wonderful day.

Being grateful is hopefully not limited to one day of the year only, but is incorporated in your being.

I used to sit down every evening with the children and asked them what was special that day.
It made them aware of the good things and during the day they started to look out for things to mention that evening.

It's so easy to make someone content with his or her life.

X-Ray day

In 1895 on this day Roentgen discovered by accident the X-rays.

He was studying the effect of passing an electrical discharge through gases at low pressure.

He observed a light coming from a surface which was coated with barium platinocyanide. Interesting was that this surface was out of the range of the rays he was working with.

He concluded that rays were passing through wood and paper and such.

These rays were called x-rays.

Hug-a-Bear Day

One of the most cute days is Hug-a-Bear Day.

Here the children are allowed to take their bear to school and have it seated on their desk or in a special chair.

Some organizations collect money and bears all year to hand bears out to people who are living under difficult conditions or who have to deal with a hard time in their lives.

Greek recipes

Trying out recipes from other countries is fun. Especially when you can use traditional recipes, who have proven to be tasty.

The site: Authentic Greek Recipes provides very clear recipes of traditional dishes.

Each recipe is illustrated with at least one good photo, so you know how the endproduct should look.

At the bottom of the site is a metric converter, which comes in handy for some.

When you still need to plan a vacation for next year, why not go to Corfu and enter the cooking classes.
You'll learn to cook grecian dishes in small groups.

International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

It was 2001. To be precise november 5, when the General Assembly of the UN declared november 6 the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict (resolution 56/4).

As far as I know people don't even think about the environment when they think about war, but the Vietnam war has shown how whole ecosystems can be damaged for generations.

Here in my country we still find explosives from WW2, and we all know how long mines can cause animals and human beings to be injured.

Don't you love give-aways?

I hardly ever win and sometimes I'm too tired to read all the rules and regulations only to find at the bottom: usa only, so I've wasted my attention and time.

But there are people who are generous enough to include the whole world in their give-away or who enable to winner to pay for the mailing costs.

But even then the rules can harm you in a way you don't expect.

Some give-away's want you to copy a prefab text to your blog.
Google might consider it copying and it can cost you your rank.

With american thanksgiving and christmas approaching there are so many wonderful graphics to chose from that it's tempting to display them all on your blog.

You are right, most of them are well worth sharing.

But don't forget that they also take a lot of time to load and you might risk that important parts of your site won't load or load too slow for the visitor.

Thumbnails offer a choice.

good extention for firefox

For those who use firefox I've found a nice extension which prevents you seeing the new ugly adverts of the famous dropping business.

It's adblock plus, which enables certain sites to load faster because some irritating ads aren't displayed.

I've also found out that adg...ze squares need to be clicked with the "open new tag" function of your mouse, instead of left clicking.
It took me a few clicks to get used to that and I'm fine with it now.

You can switch the extension on and off, so when you want to see everything on a site, you can do so.

I've been seriously ill and was confronted with a huge pile of mail and other things to catch up.

A slow loading site?

When surfing around I come across sites that load so slow that I hardly see them completely loaded after reloading 5 times.

I do have a very fast connection, so I should see all sites fully loaded within no time.

In the past we always tried to stay below the 7 second target.
When a site wasn't loaded before the 7 seconds were past, we knew people would be away before they even tried to read the first post.

The way sites look is subject to fashion. I was one of the first with two rights sidebars and people told me they needed far too much adjustment in their surfing to like it.
But on the other hand, I disliked the left scrollbars. Well, they never made it into high fashion site-design.

In the beginning I developed all my sites in IE, but now most surfers use firefox I realize I sometimes forget the adjustments for IE, which makes my site look awkward.

When your site is slow loading, there are a few important things to check:

The top three are:

HTML/CSS.
Is the basic coding of the site right?
Mistakes may cause it not to load properly, or parts might not even load at all.
Code with.
I mention this seperately, because some people are not able to position the sidebar beside the main content.
Adjust the overall width (wrapper), or adjust the width of sidebar or main part.
Graphic Load.
When you put too many graphics on a site, it needs more time to load or won't load properly.
Use small graphics, dispose of unnecessary coding, don't put too many graphics in a widget.

It's a beginning, but it helps a lot.

EC's in our out of the system?

Maybe someone can make me understand why, because I was made to belief they wanted less EC's in the system.

breastcancer awareness month

It's Breastcancer Awarenes Month.

The last years I was impressed by the enormous online attention for breastcancer.
People blogging about participating in main events, like walks, parades, handing out leaflets in shopping centres, etc etc. And it looked like pink ribbons were on every site.

And don't forget the way commercialism earned quite a bit of money during this special month.
Some shops here sold a magazine which was so expensive that it was better to buy the pink ribbon that came as an extra in a jewelry shop.

Oh yes, I saw some kind of effort to create awareness at the beginning of the month.
It was said breast self examination was not necessary anymore, because the breastcancers found that way had no better statistics of cure than those found during a screening.
Haha!! The message needed a careful reader, that was all. And when I wrote the cancer foundation in question I was surprised I never got an answer but that the commercials never appeared at TV ever after.

Breast self examination is important and will be important, because it's the best way to detect abnormal growths between screenings. In fact, it's the only way.

To detect a tumor as soon as possible is the only way to battle cancer.
The longer a tumor grows, the more difficult it is to treat.

When insurances and hospitals are looking to cut costs, it's always very important to see if and when it's affecting your health.

In my country screening is paid by the government, but the mammograms in between are paid by the insurance.

I agree that most tumors can wait a few months, and even a bit longer, before they're discovered. These are the slow growing tumors.

But the fast growing tumors are the ones that are the real killers.
They need to be caught in time to enable treatment to be succesful.
That means that every woman and every man should do breast exam, every month.

Especially men should be aware of the fact that they can get breast cancer too.
Most breastcancers in men are found too late. That means: a lesser chance of survival.

Men are not screened for breastcancer, so they should take the responsibility for their own health, just like women.

Twitter is a networking site where you can send messages with a maximum of 144 characters.

You can write a short profile, leave your URL (just 1) and adjust the page where others can find you.

You can follow people, so you'll get their messages, and people can follow you, so they get your messages.

Using tags enables messages with the tagged subject to be found easier by others.

When you want a private conversation with someone you can use the DM/direct mail.

I like Twitter, because I can see quickly whether my friends are online, keep myself updated about my favorite subjects and have a talk with someone when I need it.

Using a program that allows more accounts, and organizes messages is a big help.
I'm using Tweetdeck.

Each friday there's an event at Twitter called: #followfriday.

We'll send our favorites with the tag, and others can see if there's someone between those names they want to follow too.

Recycling

Today is Blog Action Day 2009 and the theme is Climate Change.

I was amazed when a friend from New York told me they're not recycling the waste of this huge city.
It would mean a tremendous positive step forward when they would start to use the system we have here.

We recycle:

Glass
In every neighbourhood are containers where we can sort out glass: white and coloured.
The containers are huge, with a hole in it to throw a bottle in.
Large pieces can be left at the side of the container.
Once or twice a week containers will be exchanged.
The glass is used to make new glass.

Glass bottles which are recycled by the manufacturer of the content can be brought to the shop where you get a small amount of money back. (It was paid when buying the product.)
Paper
Every month a special team from the neighbourhood organisation collects paper.
They sell it and the money is used to organise special events for children and bring a present to those who are ill, celebrate an anniversary etc etc.
The paper is used to make new paper.
Green waste/organic material
We have special containers near the house where we can put all organic waste in, like left over food, peels from potatoes, leaves and cuttings from the garden.
Every two weeks the containers are emptied and the waste is brought to special places where the things that don't belong in it are sorted out and the rest is composted.
Each year in spring people can come one day to collect fresh compost for free. The rest of the compost is sold.
Plastic
Near the glass containers are plastic containers where we can throw away our plastic.
The plastic is used to make new plastic and fleece.
Clothes and other fabrics
Every few weeks we get special bags, or a sticker to use on our own bags.
We can put the bags filled with clothes on the pavement near the street at a special day and it's collected that day.
The clothes are sorted.
The good items which can be used the same season are sold at special shops, like the ones of the salvation army.
Lesser products, and products that are not from the season, are shipped to other countries where they are either sold for a low prize or donated.
And what can't be used is used to make paper.
Furniture
is brought to special places, where other people can buy it cheap. When more people want the same item it's auctioned.
Toys
are sold at seasonal markets and second hand toy shops.
Iron and copper and such
are collected by the council. It's all recycled.
Medicines/drugs
are brought back to the pharmacy. From there they're brought to places where medical waste is burned in special overns with special filters.
Chemical waste, like old paint, nail polish etc etc
Each week a special car comes at a special time to the shopping centre to collect chemical waste, which is brought to special burning ovens.
Batteries
Old batteries are collected at the shops where they are sold.
Each year there's a special action. When you put your name in a bag with at least 10 batteries you take part in a special draw for vacations.
Large equipment
When buying a fridge or a washing machine or something like that you have to pay a special fee, used to recycle the elements when the machine isn't used anymore.
They're collected at special places where you can bring the old item, or where the shop who delivers the new item brings the old one.
from there they're shipped to special companies where they take the reusable parts out.
The same happens to cars, which parts are reused.
And the rest of the waste goes in bags which are collected every 2 weeks.

Like all years before I was prepared for a few weeks of wet weather with temperatures which were just too high for the heating and too low to get the laundry dry.

But yesterday and today was a continuous change from plain temperatures to freezing nights.
It's cold here, even though the heating is on.

I heard that in Austria and Poland people were surprised by the snow, and that in certain parts of America they've already had a white world.

Where do you live and how's your weather?

How many times have your dropped at sites that made you stop for a while and look around?

Photography by KML is one of the sites that makes you stop. Either because you're not overpowered by advertisements and longs texts, or because your eye was draw to the photo that was subject of the day.

Each post features a wonderful photo with added text, inviting you to relax for a moment.
Have you seen the autumn photo of the red leaves?
The colourful kajaks, waiting to be used?

The beauty of photos is not made with the camera, but with the eye that guides the lens.

special subjects?

One of the things I've learned in my life is to shed off the negative and move towards the positive.
I've received so many complaints about Entrecard that I wonder whether some legal advice would be wise. Especially in cases where people have invested so much time and energy, and even money, and are thrown out. They loose sometimes more than a few hundreds of thousands of EC's, and we all know how much time that represents.

Even though it's mentioned in the TOS that this can happen, that doesn't make it legal.

'Nough said on the matter.

On the positive side: we're growing and people enjoy the initiative.
It's so good to see familiar faces again.

It's interesting that so many different people with different hobbies have found each other on internet.

It made me wonder whether there are people who want to write a guest post for this blog about their hobbies or profession.
