I live in Kajang, which is only about 20 minutes drive to Putrajaya on a regular traffic day. I usually go to Putrajaya only for business related matters because Putrajaya is one of the largest administrative centre in Malaysia, after Kuala Lumpur. My father and I will usually go to either MOF (Ministry of Finance) or Putrajaya Convention Centre, settle our business and drive home. I hardly even glance at the beautiful architecture of the buildings here or even take a look at the many bridges at Putrajaya. Like many before me, I took things for granted because they were so close at home.

But on the day of my hot air balloon ride, I sort of “saw” Putrajaya for the first time. The buildings, the designs, the surroundings and the atmosphere are just beautiful. Yes, there were some territories yet to be explored by me but from 750 feet in the air and as far as my eyes could see on that morning, Putrajaya was breathtaking.

In case you don’t know, here’s a little info on the Federal Territory of Putrajaya.

Putrajaya (originally Prang Besar), was opened as Air Hitam by the British in 1918. The original land space was 3.2km² and expanded to 32km² before merging with its surrounding estates such as Estet Raja Alang, Estet Galloway and Estet Bukit Prang.

Putrajaya was Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad’s (Malaysia’s 4th Prime Minister) brainchild which was planned to be a Federal Government Administrative Centre to replace Kuala Lumpur as the administrative capital. The Federal Government paid the state of Selangor for 45.8km² of land in Prang Besar, Selangor to get a total area of 49km² for Putrajaya.

Putrajaya was planned as a garden city and intelligent city, which is why 38% of the area is reserved for green spaces and natural landscapes and the city is located within the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). Putrajaya was Malaysia’s biggest project and one of South East Asia’s largest with the estimated final cost of US$8.1 billion.

I absolutely loved the sky that morning. However, my footing was a little shaky in the hot air balloon and even though I was never scared of heights, I did have this tingling fear at my lower spine (and some crazy imagination of the balloon falling into the water) which did not help stabilize my hands. Sadly, I only managed to capture some pictures of the surroundings but most of the time, I just gripped the edge of the basket for dear life.

I think when I go to Putrajaya again one of these days, I might bring my camera with me and take pictures of some of the beautiful buildings and monuments there. Or maybe I’ll start with the bridges first. There are ONLY 9 bridges for me to choose from anyway…

Remember my blog post on MITBCA and me asking for votes for that competition? Of course, who can forget the drama that ensued too right? I hope all those issues will be put to rest now that the Awards night have passed three days ago. The MITBCA 2012 awards night was held at Saloma Theatre Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur on 8th May 2012.

Did you know? – MaTiC (Malaysia Tourism Centre), located next to Saloma Theatre Restaurant is one of Malaysia’s historical building housing many of this country’s important events and ceremonies. Learn more about it here.

I went to the event with my mom and Bbunz. Although the event is said to start at 7.30pm, it is only until 8pm that we are allowed to register. I went into my pissed off mode when they mixed up the number of guests that I had RSVP-ed. I said I will bring 2 guests (which means inclusive of me there will be 3 people) but they only reserved 2 seats. The only thing people at the registration table can say was, it wasn’t their fault, information was given by the Ministry. Right.

After a lot of standing and waiting for them to sort me and my guests out, they gave my table number as W2, which is slightly further than the stage. When I went to the table, the seats are all full. Why? Because over-smart guests at that table brought “extra” friends to the event which they did not RSVP for. Here I was RSVP-ing the right number of guests and didn’t get seats and those people who didn’t RSVP got seats! I am seriously angry at one of the Chinese man at that table. I think he came from a very faraway land in China where they did not teach their people to speak nicely. 

So what happened next? My mom, Bbunz and I was placed at the VIP table instead. Thanks to Arun (I think that’s his name). Nice. Luckily my mom was cheerful, especially since she got to talk and take photos with Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen near the fountain before Dato’ Sri came into the restaurant. The three of us was sitting and laughing at jokes when suddenly Dato’ Sri came, shook our hands and ask us of our well-being. Totally unexpected but glad to have a minister who comes to us instead of the common opposite way.

Moving on to the event…

There are three things I feel strongly about in this event.

1. Love the speaker – Who does not love Dato’ Mahadhir Lokman? He’s just legendary.
2. Love the performances – The dancers were wonderful, Atilia’s a powerhouse, Amanda Imani is good and Kuah Jenhan is just crazy funny.
3. Hate the food.

The awards presentation was slightly chaotic actually. They fed last minute details to Dato’ Mahadhir Lokman (i.e. winner was not there and another person is taking the award on behalf of) which was a little unprofessional but since this is the first time for MITBCA 2012, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully things will operate more smoothly next year.

Saw some familiar faces at the awards and met some awesome new people too. My apologies if I was in a hurry to leave that night. My congratulations to other winners as well. Hopefully this is a beginning to many other fabulous wins and recognitions to our blogs and micro-blogs. I know the 4th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2012 event happened nearly 2 months ago but I still want to share my hot air balloon ride experience with you guys. Remember my blog post last year and my rants about some miscommunication from the organizer who wasted my precious time? Finally this year I get to ride the Hot Air Balloon. Not just any hot air balloon but the one that takes off from Launching Site A at Monumen Alaf Baru, Precint 2 and lands at another place. Yiiiha!

I was so happy to get the message from @myballoonfiesta few weeks before the event (shows they remember their promise last year) and was informed that my scheduled day is on Friday, March 16th, at Monumen Alaf Baru, Precint 2, Putrajaya. So, in order to NOT repeat last’s years problem, my brother and I arrived at Monumen Alaf Baru at 6.45am even though they said the balloons will only take off at 7.40am. *kiasu mode*

So, how was the ride? I only have one word for it – Wow!

Filip (pilot) and myself

It was an awesome experience to fly with Filip Audenaert, our pilot from Belgium in the Michelin balloon. Filip didn’t talk much but I have a feeling he is a very competitive guy. His balloon was the first to take off that morning because he wants to win the “Hare & Hound” game that goes on every morning throughout the event. How does the “Hare & Hound” game work?

1. Pilots must fly to a spot marked “X” at a point after the Putrajaya lake.
2. Pilots will have to throw their own marker at the “X” point.
3. Marks are given according to the distance of the marker and the “X” point.

Filip said that he won first place the day before, which is the first time they tried the “Hare & Hound” game. So, even though on that day the balloon was quite far from the “X” spot, he still threw his marker so that he can collect the points. At the end of the four-day event, the balloonist that collected highest point in the “Hare & Hound” game will win. Although Filip does not know what the prize is, he still wouldn’t give up.

I managed to take a video of some of our flying moments including when we were so high up (we went as high as 750ft) and also when we were only inches above the lake surface. I felt a tinge bit of fear when we were so close to the water and this was what I said :

Me : Filip, we’re so close to the water. Is this safe?

Filip : Can you swim?

Me : No.

Filip : Uh-ohhh..

LOL! Cheeky pilot.

Filip is a very skilled pilot. He wanted us to see Putrajaya as he sees it. He even pointed out the Prime Minister’s house (which I, as a Malaysian, didn’t even know!). Since pilots can only depend on the wind to manoeuvre the balloon, I am especially glad that Filip is my pilot. I certainly do not want to crash into the trees or something. Even the landing was smooth and easy.

Although we had to wait quite a long while for the pickups to come to us at our landing spot, I was happy to experience this. I wish the ride was longer and the hot air balloon was bigger. Filip says piloting hot air balloons is his full time job and in Belgium, he pilots hot air balloons that can carry 10-12 people at once. The Michelin balloon and all the other hot air balloons at the Putrajaya event can only take 4 people at once.

Unexpectedly, after we have landed, Filip actually handed 2 certificates for my brother and I. I was surprised at this additional goody and was so pleased to receive it. It would be a great reminder of our awesome experience! I hope next year’s Hot Air Balloon Fiesta will open balloon flights to the public. I sure will find my way to the fiesta again then.

There are other activities at the 4th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta too such as zorbing, helicopter rides, paramotor and so much more. So, if you missed out on this year’s event, make sure you join in on all the fun next year guys!

At first I thought of just letting this thing pass, especially since I feel this “thing” is complete nonsense that will be buried and forgotten in the next few days. However, there have been a few friends who contacted me directly to ask “what’s the story” and although my closer circle of friends already knew about this, I figure I’ll just write the story here, get it all out in the open, and then put this nonsense past me. Hope after you read the last line in this post, you will understand what went on and quit asking me what, why, when, where and how.

So…

I would like to thank everyone who voted my blog as the “Tourism Blog Of The Year” at MITBCA and made me the winner. I am deeply honored by your support.

However, the saying “When you’re on top, there will always be those who would pull you down” is true.

I should’ve learned the lesson when it happened to a close friend of mine who was also nominated in MITBCA in another category. Yet, my stubborn and competitive nature urged me to keep on going and with encouragement from that same friend, I tried what I could to get to the top of the category. I even managed to convince my brothers to help me with their gamers network and all. LOL! Now I owed my brothers quite a bit.

I guess what irritates me with this whole situation is the issue only came up a couple hours before the voting ends at MITBCA’s website (1st May). Somebody with the IP address 123.136.106.125 left a comment at my category’s runner’s up blog posing as me and used my blog address to condemn her. Look, I don’t do this kinda shit OK? Seriously, I have no time for this kinda shit. I have to do 3 things at once every day. I have 2 jobs and I study. Do you think you can do 3 things in 24 hours? Try it and tell me.

So, it pisses me off that I have to clean up other people’s shit by having to visit the runner’s up’s blog and making sure she knows the poser is not me. Then, what’s funnier is the poser left a comment at my blog too (it was in moderation) as the runner’s up, trying to scare me about the increase of my vote. Sorry, I guess you never had the gamer’s network to help increase your votes before, if not you would understand. Too bad. What’s FUNNY is the time this so-called poser left the comments. It was the time when my blog have just taken over the first place. LOL!

I know that none of my friends and connections are involved in this. I know it to my bones because I know the kinda people my friends are. I know they wouldn’t care a fit that I get 107 votes in 1 hour but what they would do is they would support me and garner more votes for my blog. You see, I am very very VERY selective of people I make friends with. So I know them. I KNOW. Plus, my friends are all busy people. Do you think they have all the time in the world to leave nasty comments at people’s blogs and try to pit people against each other? I know what my friends will do if they’re angry or if they’re irritated by stealing cheaters or if they hate somebody. They won’t complain much but they’ll just ignore that person. Or better yet, they’ll just stop being friends. <— The easiest thing to do in the “Book Of Friendship”.

Then, the next day (2nd May) when I was busy outside scouting places for my new project and buying things for my shop, another friend texted me and informed that the poser left another comment at another blogger’s blog (which is the runner’s up’s good friend). I have no idea why this poser is doing this and what she/he is trying to get from all this.

• Think about it. The MITBCA competition has ended so why continue this crap again? Maybe to taint the name of my blog? Hmm.. Just because I won this once? How about those people who have won awards many times before me? Why not taint the name of their blogs? Where was the poser when that was happening? (I’m assuming this poser is someone none of us knew).

• Think about it again. If ever, (touch wood!) in a universe where donkeys and pigs can actually fly, this was done by my own friends, why would they pose as me and leave nasty comments between me, the runner’s up and the runner’s up’s friend? If my friend WAS my supporter, I can understand if he/she leave nasty comments at other people’s blog as somebody else but what would he/she gain by leaving nasty comments as me? Not only will that reduce my popularity (which is not what a supporter would want) but also will not fulfill any objective AT ALL. Right? Right??

Come on, you go to school, use your brain God gave you.

Come to think of it, I feel like this whole shit IS like school where kids would backstab their friends to win or kids acting the victim and blaming others to get support. This is ridiculous. I left school a decade ago. Now I feel like I’m thrown to the past. Eek!

Truthfully, I think there’s a lot more happening to this than just about the blog awards. Maybe nobody realize this and sadly, I was thrown in the middle at the wrong time. Heck, maybe if I was nominated in other category, none of this would happen. Who knows? Only God knows why some people pose as other people to gain miniscule support.

So yeah, after receiving the award next week, I think I am not going to join any voting contests anymore. Oh, unless the prize is more than RM10k or a car or a house then that’s different. I would rather concentrate on winning big things this year, like that car I have been aiming for since New Year. I miss winning big things, you know. I always win big things before this. So don’t jinx my 2012. You may do that to yourself.

My special THANKS to the ladies who had supported me endlessly and believed I was not the culprit in this whole shenanigan. Love you Kak Emila, Shemah, Maria, Soulie and Jard! You ladies are awesome!

We love our mother don’t we? As we grow, we sometimes fight with our mother, we sometimes neglect our mother, we sometimes make our mother cry. On April 10th, my brother and I went to the premiere screening of Battleship at MidValley Megamall. I have been waiting for this movie since I first saw the trailer few months ago. I have learned that I shouldn’t expect too much on good-trailer movies if I do not want to be disappointed of it as a whole but honestly, except for a few unnecessary plots, I think this movie is fantastic!

So…

Did Rihanna turn me on? Nah. Did Brooklyn Decker (Alex Hopper’s girlfriend Samantha) turn me on? Maybe. But the best turn on, in my opinion, are the ships. I am a daughter of a retired Navy Officer, of course I loved the ships. I love the men in the white uniform too. Reminds me of many years ago when I thought my Dad looked absolutely dashing in his Navy uniform. Dad looked like an Asian version of Richard Gere in “An Officer and A Gentleman”.

If somebody in uniform wants me to date him, he should try his damnedest to get me a chicken burrito. He must also learn some humility because I do not want him to have to lose his brother first before learning how to “share”.

The aliens in this movie reminds me of apes. Don’t ask me why, they just do. I did not find the significance and reason to have those round-destroying-with-tail-thingy to crash only some parts of the highways at Oahu. Why not destroy everything? I also find it weird for an Admiral to just wait in his ship outside the “shield” instead of doing all he can to help those inside the “shield”. You know, maybe the Admiral can keep bombarding the “shield” or something, who knows if it could be weakened right? If you were thrown into an unknown situation, would you try everything there is to save the world or would you just sit by waiting (hoping!) for your team mate on the other side to kick some aliens’ ass? The military should be smarter than this…

The CGI however, are amazing. If only it was in 3D, I bet it would be 10 times better. The action on the ships, even on the old USS Missouri are just mind-blowing. Or maybe it’s because I love ships so I just appreciate what’s going on on the ships.

Although I have my own personal reasons for liking this movie more than some, I think it isn’t a bad choice to pick from when you’re out with your family or friends for movie date either. All you should do is to not expect too much and do not try to understand the logic of this movie because there are none. Just sit back and enjoy the action and the occasional banter between the characters. Oh, and don’t get up until the end of the credits.

I’m not sure what got into my Dad that day but after I got home from work that evening (and was chatting away with my brothers at the dining area), mom suddenly brought 3 paper bags for us and when we looked inside, there was iPad 2 in all the three paper bags. My brother and I was stunned for a while because Dad only give us “things” if we have achieved something i.e. get good grades, secure the business project or something equal to that. Dad’s that kinda guy you see, he does not spoil his kids.

However, after letting the iPad sit in its box for nearly a month, I finally opened it yesterday (yes, it took me almost a month to unbox this thing. ) and used it. It surely is handy when I’m on the go and need to get online but I still won’t put away my laptop anytime soon. I still need the mouse and the keyboard especially when I have to type pages and pages of documents or when I have to edit tons of photos.

Of course I am absolutely grateful for this gift. I am also happy that Dad is giving me all sorts of advice for my business these days. He is also helping sort me out through some business opportunities to further expand my business and I am so grateful for everything. When I was younger I would repel at this label but now I embrace it with joy – I am “Daddy’s Girl”.
