Remember the last two strays I blogged about? Here’s a third, who also pretty much came to us in the same way the other two did, either by chance or by fate, I don’t know. We named this new addition to the family as “Bobby”. We’re not too imaginative with dog names in comparison to cat names. Sure, we have cats named Eldar, Arya, Skardi, Freyer and other “weird” names but when it comes to the dogs, we sort of get stumped. So we ended up naming them simple human names. The first stray dog that came to our house we named Billy and the second we called Johnny.

Bobby arrived at our front gate a few months ago looking lost. He was afraid of humans at first and would run away when we approach him but he don’t understand moving vehicles or moving out of the road when there’s a car coming towards him. We would leave food and water for him outside our front gate and after he eats, he will hide somewhere in the bushes and only come out again when he’s hungry. This went on for almost a month until one day, he braved himself to come to us.

Bobby limped from his right hind leg. We think he had been hit but he wouldn’t let us check his leg. Bobby is close to my brother, Z. Whenever Z walks out our front gate, Bobby would walk next to him or look up at him or lie down next to Z’s legs or put his paw on Z’s pants. However, Bobby also knows not to rub his wet nose on Z’s pants just by Z saying “no”.

As for me, I still have this teeny weeny phobia with dogs because of the incident where a wild dog sank all his teeth in my calf back when I was 8 years old. That incident was pretty traumatic and painful as hell so the fear of dogs stuck. Cesar Millan says if you want a dog to be submissive to you, you have to show you’re in control but with this phobia I have, I certainly emanate a fearful aura and I know these dogs can sense that from me.

I do hope I’ll meet a nice dog some day though.

For now, we’re just taking care of Bobby. We do hope if there’s anybody out there who wants to adopt a dog, you would consider taking Bobby. He’s a sweet dog and friendly with the neighbourhood dogs but it’s just that the neighbours are making noise saying that he’s a stray and someone might call the MPKj to catch him. (If ever the MPKj comes, I bet it’s because of one of these stupid neighbours!)

Oops. I know this is a little overdue. I have been quite busy this past few days and having my head spells does not help one bit. My headache is going to kill me one of these days. Anyways, remember the Part 1 of my 250ft Lou Sang & Chinese New Year ceremony post? Now here’s Part 2 for you.

The 250ft Lou Sang was held at Palm Spring Ring Road in Jaya One, Petaling Jaya on 2nd February 2012. Many attended the event, including bloggers of course though I actually missed to jot down the info that bloggers have to gather at Chilli Rush first for the Chilli Rush Chillout session so Fie and I accidentally skipped that.

The event started around 6.30pm after the Lou Sang was arranged carefully along the 250ft table stretched at Palm Spring Ring Road and after the VIP has arrived. The 24-Seasons drums performance first opened and welcomed the VIPs on the stage. State executive councillor, YB Teresa Kok was the guest of honor for this event. She gave some speeches about how lucky the people of Section 13 are because Section 13 is an industrial center that is slowly transforming into a commercial hub. Tetap Tiara Sdn Bhd’s Executive Director; Charles Wong, Selangor Deputy Mayor; Puasa Md Taib and MBPJ councillor Richard Yeoh was also present at the event.

After speeches by the VIPs, YB Teresa Kok initiated the ceremony by painting the “eyes” on the dragons before the dragon performance began. This was later followed by the Lou Sang ceremony and the Lion Dance. There was “God of Prosperity” walking around as well. Sadly, I didn’t get any oranges from any of them in this event. Luckily I did get some oranges at another event. The performances were done by the Khuan Loke Dragon & Lion Dance Association.

I love Chinese New Year and the Lion Dance. I think it’s because of that 1/4 Chinese blood in me.

It had taken a few hours to render some of my videos so I think the Part 1 of this blog post will have three of my fabulous videos first. These videos were taken on 2nd February at Jaya One, Petaling Jaya during the Chinese New Year Celebration and their historical 250 feet long Lou Sang Ceremony. The celebration started around 6.30pm at Palm Spring Ring Road with drums performances, speeches, followed by Dragon performances, Lou Sang and the Lion Dance.

I will include the details on those in my Part 2 post (accompanied with photos).

For now, enjoy the videos I took of the celebration and the performances on that day. Wish this dragon year will be an auspicious year for us all!

I first watched Star Wars Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace in the cinemas back in 1999 (wow, has it really been that long?). Which means, I already know how the story line went. I kinda imagined I was in love with Ewan McGregor back then too but I blame that on my teen hormones. Fast forward to 13 years later, a 3D movie and less raging hormones, this is my review of the movie.

3D. Star Wars Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace is not the only old movie that’s coming back in 3D. Titanic will be visiting the shores in 3D too and I bet many other (blockbuster) movies aged 10 years and older will be returning in 3D soon too. Why? Is it because 3D gives more interaction between viewers and the movie or because it’s just another way to revive an old movie for the benefit of the new generation?

For this movie, I personally did not find anything “interesting” in 3D in comparison to the 2D version many years ago. There are not many parts with 3D anyway except for the flying pods and flying fighter jets. I think I can do without that and without heavy 3D glasses at the bridge of my nose. I’m not really a fan of 3D movies but there are some 3D movies that has caught my attention and interest.

However, I love watching this movie just because I love Star Wars. I’ve loved Star Wars since the original first movie with Mark Hamill in it. The whole idea of living forms in stars and planets just captured my highly imaginative young mind many years ago and I still think that George Lucas is amazing when it comes to the Star Wars franchise. Of course, having stars like Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman in Star Wars Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace doesn’t hurt either.

If you’re a fan of Star Wars, watching Star Wars Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace in 3D will be another way to experience “being in the film” and reliving the movie you’ve watched more than 10 years ago. If you’re not a fan of Star Wars though, maybe you can pass this movie up or you’ll get bored at the slow how-it-all-started story line and might end up snoozing in the middle of it all.

Let us practice our life routine according to the “sunnah” of the prophet. Let us celebrate this day in moderation and in line with the Islam’s “syariat”. Most of all, let us remember our prophet Muhammad s.a.w. (peach be upon his soul) and show our love for him by reciting the Salawat upon Rasulullah (selawat ke atas nabi) as below.

Have you ever been in a situation when you thought things are getting better, life was pretty filled with blooming flowers after long months of grey winter and you’re just starting to feel better and more confident of your surroundings and then suddenly, you feel like you’ve been hit by a truck – again? It hurts to get back up after falling for the second time over the same mistake, done by the same person. You will definitely feel cheated, betrayed, hurt, but what can you do? Especially if that person is the closest to you. The only way to severe everything if the person is dead but it is not only wrong to wish that that person is dead, it is already wrong to even think it.

I wish everything can be like how it was when I was 5-years old. A cheerful little kid with naught a care of the world.

Now, even though I’m not 50 years old, I feel like I’m one. I feel ancient. I belong in the museum. I need a long rest like a mummy. Every day I drag myself out of bed, feeling so heavy I might as well be entombed. Maybe if I was then my mind will stop thinking of all these betrayals and my heart will stop feeling all this sorrow.

Smile. It’s easier to plaster a smile on my face, but sadly a smile hardly reaches my eyes these days.

I feel like running away, in an open field, with strong winds blowing me forward and the smell of autumn filling the air.

Responsibility sucks.

“Dawn of the Dragon”. How do you think that sounds? Does it sound scary? Interesting perhaps? If you must know, that’s the theme of the Chinese New Year decorations at Ikano Power Center (IPC). Sounds kinda cool right? I thought if the decorations were 3D instead of flat carboard-y type, it would be much cooler! But maybe the people at IPC is not trying to compete with other malls and just want to share knowledge with you instead.

Ever heard of The Zodiac Race? How about the Story of Nian? Do you know what Nian Gao is? I bet you know what Ang Pow is but how about what it symbolizes? Ah-haaa.. You can learn all about this and more if you go visit IPC and Walk The Dragon Trail. Sure, you can’t play hide-and-go-seek at the cardboard houses but you can learn a thing or two about Chinese New Year and it’s definitely not just about the money packets!

If you minus the “knowledge” part though, you’ll find the showcase point in IPC bare and the colours doesn’t stand out much. When I first glanced at the house below, I thought the blue-spotted thing was a raging and fired up (pun intended) bull. Turns out it’s a Nian – monster.

The Story of Nian

Long ago, there was a monster that came out on the same day each year to eat people. This monster was named Nian, and the people marked the end of a year by his visits. That is where the Chinese word for “year” came from. Each time Nian comes around, people would huddle together in the homes and stay up all night, terrified of being eaten. This happened for many years until a wise man thought up a plan to scare the monster away.

This man proposed that the people should light bamboo with fire. The bamboo would crack and make a lot of noise, possibly scaring the monster away. The villagers thought this was a very good idea and started to light the bamboo. The noise was tremendous. The monster was scared by the loud noise and ran back to its cave! The next morning the villagers rejoice at the result of their effort. So, from then on, people stayed up late, lit firecrackers (to simulate the lighting of the bamboo) and congratulated each other when the New Year came.

When I was there, I only saw two lanterns at the showcase point, and one of the bulb in one of the lanterns blew off I think. Like I said, the decorations here is very minimal and quite bare but I guess it’s kinda nice to stop once in a while to feast your brain instead of just feasting your eyes with over-the-top decorations. Oh but let me emphasize that again, only once in a while.

So what do you think? Yay or nay?

Alright, I’m not trying to make you guys puke with so many Chinese New Year Decorations posts but since we’ve just celebrated CNY a few days ago and I have about 2 posts left to do on CNY decorations of malls in Selangor/KL, I figure I should get this done and over with and maybe we can binge-read on other things after this yeah? Agree?

This time I’ll let you check out the CNY decorations at KLCC and decide yourself if it is any better than other mall decorations I’ve featured so far. I went to Kinokuniya KLCC to get a book on the eve of Chinese New Year and took the opportunity to snap some photos while I’m there. I hardly go to KLCC anymore, unless if there was something urgent that I have to do. I used to come here every weekend ten years ago. Now, all I can think of is getting stuck in traffic jam.

In my opinion, KLCC’s decorations are mediocre in comparison to some other malls I’ve featured. I thought the stage was very bare, I don’t know if they’ve placed something on the stage before or if it was meant for lion dance but maybe there should be something placed at the empty stage area when there’s no activity to be done there. I thought having only two giant lanterns above the center court is not very charming. They should either put more lanterns or put more dragons. I don’t know what exactly but just put more of something to keep it from looking too bare.

I wonder whose idea this decoration belongs to? I have a question about the dragon though, is it like, sitting on golden pearls or something? And why does it’s front legs go up like that? Make it look like it’s trying to stop the traffic. And the tail makes the dragon look more like a lizard instead. There is more than one thing about this decoration that seemed a little wrong.

Before my brothers and I left KLCC for our CNY Eve dinner, we went out of Suria towards the fountain area and found that there are no decorations outside KLCC at all. Sadly I do not feel the festive mood here. I wonder if other patrons think the same thing too. Maybe the influx of foreigners (from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Taiwan and others) here don’t deserve a good decoration.

Yeah, there were too many foreigners here and they look at you like they want to eat you. Eeek! I nearly kicked a Bangladeshi in the shin for staring at me like I’m his dinner or something.
