Then pay attention to your environment and to possible sources of EMFs.

Our environment is filled with invisible natural and non-natural electric and magnetic fields. The man-made electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) have been until recently largely ignored. A growing volume of research has heightened public awareness of the problem that EMFs may be negatively impacting the health and well-being of millions of people. EMFs have in common that they are all created by electrical devises in our houses, such as hair dryers, digital alarm clocks, toasters, coffee makers, TVs, or computers.

The more you use these devices and the closer you are to them, the higher is your exposure to EMFs. EMFs behave differently however, in respect to other characteristics. As soon as your electrical device is plugged in, it is surrounded by an electrical field, even when switched off. In contrast, magnetic fields are only created when your device is switched on. In other words, magnetic fields are only present when electric current flows and the bigger the current the stronger the magnetic field.

Furthermore electric and magnetic fields behave differently in relation to building materials. Fortunately most of the building materials shield electric fields to some extent however, magnetic fields are not attenuated by currently used materials. That means that your house is not shielding you against the magnetic fields of for instances, a high voltage transmission line. The only solution to escape these big magnetic fields, which can extent hundreds of meters, is to maintain a reasonable distance.

Man-made EMFs emanate from whatever conducts or uses electricity, such as appliances, wiring, distribution lines under homes and along streets and highways, railroad cars on electrified lines, and high-tension power lines. Our proximity to electricity exposes us to electrical fields twenty four hours per day. Only if you live far from a city with no electricity at all, like a hermit, you would be unaffected.

How dangerous is electromagnetic pollution for us?

The effects of electromagnetic pollution on our health is currently discussed controversially. From the point of view of a Geomancer, electromagnetic pollution causes bad chi (“sha chi”) in our environment, resulting in disharmony and energetic chaos. We are already exposed to various sources of discordant chi like geopathic stress, noises, strong winds, harmful chemicals and finally EMFs. The latter are a relatively new danger and we do not yet have any long term experience on their effects. More than ever we are permanently bombarded by invisible electromagnetic forces covering our surroundings like a fog with daily increasing density.

These electromagnetic forces have an effect on everything, from plant growth to our health and probably even the weather. Numerous epidemiological studies were done to investigate its biological effects. At first it was believed that man made sources like electricity, microwaves and radiofrequency, cannot influence our biological system. Electrical devices generally produce extremely low frequency (ELF) fields with frequencies up to 300 Hz.

Other technologies produce intermediate frequency (IF) fields (300 Hz – 10 MHz) and radiofrequency (RF) fields (10 MHZ – 300 GHz). All these sources were considered as non-ionizing and unable to break chemical bonds. Several epidemiological studies have shown however, that these strong and multidirectional EMFs can disrupt normal cell polarity, and blood functions. This is because our complex body contains about 70% water, and our cells even consist of 97% water and about 3% salt, a solution that is able to conduct electricity.

We are in fact an electrical system because all body functions and responses are controlled by bio-electromagnetic waves from the brain, and all our cells and tissues generate EMFs. Only in a natural and EMF free environment our bio-electrical system can work without influence and we are able to self-regulate and heal our vital bodily functions in an efficient way. The majority of the epidemiological studies on health effects of EMFs exposure have focused on the incidence of cancer. Much more likely is that the exposure to EMFs may act as a continuous immune-system stressor which can lead to a number of health problems, depending on the individual’s health and genetic predisposition.

Everyone of us reacts differently due to our health state and sensitivity. People with high electrical s ensitivity and/or electromagnetic hypersensitivity can experience numerous symptoms like nausea, dizziness, headaches, irritability, depression, anxiety, slow or fast heartbeat rate, altered sugar metabolism, immune abnormalities, hair loss, pain in the teeth, deteriorating fillings, impaired sense of smell, or ringing in the ears.

More and more people living close to high voltage power lines show strong symptoms and even life-threatening illnesses. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency publicly acknowledged in their report “Evaluation of the Potential Carcinogenicity of EMFs” that electromagnetic pollution is a serious threat to health. The report reviewed studies that had been completed prior to 1990 including six residential studies of children and adults’ over thirty studies of workers in electrical occupations, two studies of the relationship between children’s cancer rates and their father’s EMF exposures, as well as hundreds of laboratory studies.

What we can do?

Although we should be concerned about the potential risks of harmful EMFs, we can work on our environment to improve our life quality. Take a look around your home or office and you will find several possibilities to minimise your exposure to EMFs. The following list shows what you can do:

Check your environment with a Gauss meter (a meter designed to detect electromagnetic energy fields) to determine the places with EMFs in your immediate environment, as well as which sources generate the strongest fields.

Avoid electric blankets or sleeping on a heated waterbed . During night we should be able to recover and relax. This products generate a constant stream of electromagnetic energy that quietly charges your body for hours during night time. If you use an electric blanket, at least turn it off before you go to sleep (EPA recommendation).

Remove Electric Clocks and radios away from your bed. Leave them at least three feet away from your bed, desk, chair or from anywhere else you spend a great deal of time. Even digital clocks should be kept at least 30 cm away.

Avoid Power Lines or mobile phone towers. Don’t move in a house close to a power line or mobile phone tower. Maintain a distance of at least 250 m to these installations. Don’t spend your free time close to these installations.

Sit as far as possible from your television . The bigger the screen, the further away you should sit. Try to maintain a distance over 3 m away from the screen.

Avoid microwave ovens. When you have to use it, move about 3 metres away or leave the room. Although this report does not cover nutritional issues, consider that microwaves alter your food and additionally compromise your immune system. When the food is ready, take it out of the oven and leave to stand for 2-3 minutes to reduce free radicals in the food.

Unplug all your electronic devices after using.

Avoid using cordless electronic devices , such as electric toothbrushes, cordless phones (especially digital ones) and razors, all of which use magnetic induction to charge the battery. Such devices create large magnetic fields.

Electromagnetic energy can pass effortlessly through walls , so avoid setting up something on one side of a wall thinking it won’t effect you or anyone on the other side. Stay several metres away, depending on how strong a field the item in question produces.

Rearrange your office so that you and others are not exposed to EMFs from the backs and sides of video display monitors. In addition, you can minimise your exposure by sitting at least an arms length from your monitor. Get rid of dimmers and three-way electrical switches altogether. They emit especially strong EMFs.

Use your cell/mobile phone only with a hand free set/head set. Or better, try to “survive” without your cell/mobile phone. Don’t use the Blue Tooth variety and only make short calls. Do not carry the phone on your body. Avoid cordless phones.

Use crystals to harmonize your energetic field . Crystals have been found to be powerful tools to harmonize EMFs. Place a Unakite or Rose Quartz on or near your television or computer screen, or use Amazonite, Fluorite, Yellow Kunzite, Smoky Quartz or Black Tourmaline to neutralise the radiation of microwaves. If you are working a lot on your computer, then wearing Amazonite, Fluorite, Herkimer Diamond, Jasper (Brown), Kunzite (Yellow), Lepidolite, Malachite, Smoky Quartz Elestial, Sodalite, Tourmaline (Black) or Turquoise will help you. It is best not to wear more than two crystals at any one time if you have little experience with their use.

Protect yourself with quality Bio-Energy Devices. Some devices emit a subtle energy frequency which can metaphysically neutralise harmful energies and/or balance a person’s own bio-energy field. By expanding (strengthening) your bio-energy field and infusing it with life-energy, the energy level in and around the body increases, which enables you to ground and purify negative, unbalanced and chaotic energies, such as EMFs more effectively. The common factor in all these devices is that they do not remove the physically measured fields. Before buying this products you should test them (e.g. dowsing or muscle testing).

Applying these practical suggestions will help you to minimise your exposure to harmful EMFs. Be aware of what is happening in your environment and avoid unnecessary exposure. Although there is in fact no scientific proof about the positive effects of crystals and Bio-Energy Devices available, many sensitive people notice their positive effects immediately and many others experience significant improvement of long-standing health problems already after a short period of time. There are still many things on this miraculous world that we cannot explain scientifically, but this doesn’t proof that they do not exist.

If you still have doubts, or are planning to build a house, it is always worth while to contact an experienced Geomancer or a Building Biologist, as your home is your heaven and it should be a place where you can recover fully and regain your strength.

Eliminating fear, stress, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, trauma, guilt, any anger, loss weight, stop smoking in minutes. It is a powerful therapy with a impressive success rate.

It has also proven effective in the treatment of some physical conditions such as headaches and back pain. Discovered and developed by Dr. Roger Callahan, a Californian clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, TFT is a unique form of meridian therapy. It is best described as a natural, drug-free, non-invasive system to eliminate the cause of negative emotions. Callahan (1997) states that he accidentally discovered TFT while treating a client named Mary, who had a severe fear of water. Inspired by an acupuncture class he was taking at the time, Callahan instructed Mary to firmly tap the area under her eye with her fingers, leading to a miraculous and immediate resolution of Mary's phobia. Callahan subsequently developed the comprehensive set of techniques that combines elements of acupuncture, Chinese medicine, applied Kinesiology, Cognitive Therapy and psychoanalysis.

The therapy is based on the idea that invisible energy fields called "thought fields" exist within the body (Callahan 1997). Environmental traumas and inherited predispositions are theorized to cause blockages, or what Callahan terms "perturbations," in the flow of energy in these thought fields. Callahan theorizes that the commonly observed neurochemical, behavioral, and cognitive indicators of disorders such as depression are the result of these perturbations. In other words, the root cause of all psychological problems are blockages in energy fields.

In order to correct these perturbations, clients are directed by the TFT therapist to tap on the body's "energy meridians" in specific sequences, called "algorithms," which vary based on the particular problem being treated (Callahan 1997). For example, the client may be instructed to tap at the corner of the eyebrow five times and then continue tapping on other parts of the body in a specific sequence as instructed by the therapist. In addition, the clients are told to roll their eyes, count, and hum a few bars of a song at various points during the treatment. Callahan states that when the thought field is "attuned," that is, when the person is thinking about the distressing event or image, perturbations are able to be located and corrected. The tapping is theorized to add energy to the system, which then re-balances the overall energy flow, thereby eliminating the distress at the source.

The therapy is based on the idea that invisible energy fields called “thought fields” exist within the body (Callahan 1997). Environmental traumas and inherited predispositions are theorized to cause blockages, or what Callahan terms “perturbations,” in the flow of energy in these thought fields. Callahan theorizes that the commonly observed neurochemical, behavioral, and cognitive indicators of disorders such as depression are the result of these perturbations. In other words, the root cause of all psychological problems are blockages in energy fields.

In order to correct these perturbations, clients are directed by the TFT therapist to tap on the body’s “energy meridians” in specific sequences, called “algorithms,” which vary based on the particular problem being treated (Callahan 1997). The tapping is theorized to add energy to the system, which then re-balances the overall energy flow, thereby eliminating the distress at the source.

Most research has been in the area of first hand clinical observation and the personal reports coming from therapists and clients have been impressive. Most individuals experience significant, usually complete, relief from their problem within a few minutes. Callahan reports a success rate of up to 98 %, if the treatment is undertaken by a trained therapist. There are not many other treatment methods presently available, conventional, complementary nor alternative, that can claim the same success, speed and completeness.

Formal investigation, conducted in early 1995, by Charles R. Figley, Ph.D. and Joyce Carbonell, Ph.D. of the Psychological Stress Research Program and Clinical Laboratory at Florida State University yielded impressive results in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A double blind study undertaken in 1996 by Dr. Joyce Carbonell of Florida State University using TFT and a placebo treatment to treat fear of heights confirmed the effectiveness of TFT treatments. Probably the most important research article published in The Journal of Clinical Psychology is an article written by Dr. Carl Johnson, et. al. “Soothing the Bad Moments of Kosovo.” The author reports that of 249 traumas treated in Kosovo, 247 were treated successfully in a short period of time. After several visits to Kosovo, Dr. Skkelzen Syla, the equivalent to the surgeon general of Kosovo has made TFT the official therapy of Kosovo.

You can get rid of depression by eating better and yummy!

“Over 800,000 Australian adults have a depressive disorder […] and those Australians are part of over 2 million Australians (10% of the population!) and that roughly an equal number of men and women that have the common mental disorders of anxiety and depression or associated alcohol or substance abuse - big numbers”.

What you have just read is part of the talk that Dr. Ian Hickie, Professor of Psychiatry and Executive Director of the Brain and Mind Research Institute at the University of Sydney, gave at the Australian National University the 16th October 2003. Numbers have not changed since. Dr. Hickie defines these mental disorders as “disability disorders”. Adding to the feeling of hopelessness, lack of self-esteem, goals or direction in life, enjoyment, fulfillment, happiness, etc, is that mental disorders are, besides, socially stigmatized, and thus hidden. Did you know that when going to the States one of the questions in Customs questionnaire is “Are you a criminal or have a record of mental disorders?”. No comments on that.

The standard therapies for mental disorders are drugs that inhibit neurotransmitters break down or strengthen their effects. As an example, NIMH USA recommends for depression and bipolar disorders: “[..] a variety of antidepressant medications and psychotherapies that can be used to treat depressive disorders” (NIMH webpage, May 2006). No mention is done to nutrition and physical activity.

Lately, and finally, scientists are busy demonstrating the effects of different foods on moods and mental health. Alternative medicine has since long worked with the premise that our body is a whole system, therefore mental health is just a reflection of our general physical and spiritual health, and all three parts of the being are intricately interconnected. Conditions like depression, anxiety, ADD and ADHD, PMS, schizophrenia, addictions, and neurological degenerative diseases have been related in alternative therapies classically to nutritional deficiencies, lately also to allergies and environmental and food toxicity.

So, what are scientists findings?

Conditions like depression, anxiety, ADD and ADHD, PMS, schizophrenia, addictions, and neurological degenerative diseases have been related in alternative therapies classically to nutritional deficiencies, lately also to allergies and environmental and food toxicity.

So, what are scientists findings?

The relationship between food components and mental health conditions has been tested in laboratory animals with positive results. According to ABC News reported on February the 10 th , 2005, nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids warded off depression in rats. The study was conducted at the Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass.

Some worried researchers from the same institution write that unexplainable negative trends in modern neuropsychiatric and chronic diseases become explainable when the food production system is considered in the study. In their opinion, “new agricultural techniques may increase or exacerbate neuropsychiatric disorders through nutritional modification”.

Other research teams have centred their attention on the relationship between nutrition and mental health in women and men with chronic conditions. In a study conducted with 714 breast cancer survivors to assess diet and quality of life it was found that women with excellent diet quality had significantly better results than women with poor diet quality for overall mental health functioning. There were also significant improvements in their body state, but curiously enough, results were even better in respect to happiness and mind wellbeing. In a study centred in men’s health and cholesterol done in Japan, findings interestingly indicate that moderate (but not very low) cholesterol levels may protect mental health in human males.

One study found recently that social aggression and the types of oils consumed are probably related. In the study, homicide rates in 5 Western countries were compared, amongst them Australia. The authors suggest that it would be worth to investigate if low linoleic acid diets may prevent behavioural maladies that correctional institutions, social service programs, and mental health providers intend to treat.

Our own observations in the clinic have been astounding in relation to depression. We have had amazing results when treating patients with our new Food Detox and Weight Loss remedies. In 2 cases clients that also had depression reported that “the dark cloud over the head” disappeared in seconds after the first dose, leading to a relieved happiness. In both cases there was an allergy to food as the cause of the depression. Draw your own conclusions.

So, all this studies are proving that all this bunch of eccentrics advertising enthusiastically that a nutrition based on eating fresh vegetables and fruits – as opposed to frozen, canned, prepared or manufactured- are right! The best nutrition for the mind then is one that is supporting to the brain functions, and that is one full of vitamins and minerals in its natural forms, with good oils, many saturated, yes, those found in coconut, unprocessed raw seeds and nuts, and in oily fish if you are a met-eater, and with enough proteins to support the renewal of your body and mind systems, like that found also in green and naturally pigmented foods, and if need be, in algae like Spirulina or Dunaliella.

I will side with your Mum this time and say “Eat your veggies!”. And I would add, raw if possible, with your nuts and seeds!

Even if we do not see and understand all interconnections, we all contribute every day to the worldwide environmental degradation.

This article will show you that there a many possibilities to minimize your impact on the environment in your home without losing your quality of life. Everyone experiences quality of life in a particular way. But what connects all of us are the essential benefits of clear air and clean water, tranquility and nature. This are the most precious goods, that our wonderful earth is offering us daily for free, and they are at risk.

The relationship between human development and Nature's adaptation ability and buffering capacity is out of balance. There is no doubt that serious issues need to be managed urgently on a global scale, but the importance of everyone's participation should not be underestimated. Furthermore, only few people are aware of the potential health threats in products and materials found in our houses.

I had several patients with “inexplicable” symptoms like allergies, asthma, depression, headache and tiredness, most of them associated with a low immune system. In many cases the source of their conditions was in their houses due to the overuse of chemicals, pesticides, outgassing chemical additives from building materials, adhesives and binders. Another important health threat in a house is mold, due to increased insulation and tighter construction with decreased ventilation, as well as new building materials and new products.

Chemicals are another invisible enemy in our house and garden. The use of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides is very extensive in Australian households and participates actively to the ongoing health problems of thousands of residents and at the same time to the decreasing quality of our air, soil and water. Due to the different exposure and body constitution, the health effects may be different in each person, the symptoms may be hardly comparable.

The relationship between human development and Nature’s adaptation ability and buffering capacity is out of balance. There is no doubt that serious issues need to be managed urgently on a global scale, but the importance of everyone’s participation should not be underestimated.

In most of my cases though, the patients showed a high degree of stored toxins in their body’s systems, which provoked over a prolonged time several types of illnesses. Due to the long-term effect of many chemicals, I am speaking here about years or even decades, tracking of the causes is extremely difficult. Therefore prevention is our best tool. This article will help you and your family to live more environmentally conscious and healthy and furthermore will help you to avoid and prevent unnecessary exposure to unhealthy products and materials.

Wildlife habitant fragmentation

Almost 85 % of the Australian population lives in cities in a narrow band on the costal areas. Most of the houses in Australia are besides freestanding houses, i.e. in Brisbane up to 90 %. The consequence of it is that our towns are spreading over huge areas, creating an immense urban sprawl. This leads inevitably to wildlife habitat fragmentation, which means, it breaks up large areas of habitat into small, unconnected “islands” Habitats.

These habitat fragments are often too small to support viable populations of many plant and animal species. The consequence is the lost of native species. For the cities population it is wonderful to have access to hundreds of nice and tidy parks, easy to walk through in less than one hour, perfect to catch fresh air. For the remaining native habitats it is getting more and more difficult to survive in this fragmented and extremely vulnerable environments. Even when there is enough food available, small isolated animal populations can decline as a result of genetic isolation. To avoid the negative effects of further urban sprawl I recommend the following actions:

• Live in a home that is no larger than you really need.

• To help maintain local biodiversity, choose a home with a smaller yard and a surrounding natural habitat that has been left largely intact. Plant only local and not imported plants.

• Connect areas. Create corridors or stepping stones to connect isolated areas with each other. A field pond, for example, might be connected to a woodland by a hedgerow. One large nature reserve is better than several small nature reserves that together would cover the same area.

Water

Australia is the driest continent on Earth (excluding Antarctica), but we are the greatest consumers of water per capita. Australians use more than 1 million liters of fresh-water per person each year. About 12% of this comes from domestic use. In Brisbane the average family uses 700 L per day. There are many different ways to conserve and recycle water. The classical way is gathering the rain water and storing in tanks. Thereby the roof gutters need to be kept clean of animal/bird excrement – and the roof should be allowed to “wash itself” at the start of the rain period before collection begins by moving the entry pipe going into the tank. This will also wash off any other contaminants such as herbicides, dust, etc that may have “blown in.”

If your house is already supplied with town water, you can install a rainwater harvesting systems which collect rain from the roof in a tank. This water can be used for all toilets. This can save up to 40% of your water needs. Another possibility is to create a additional grey water recycling system. ‘Grey water’ is water that has been used in the washing machine, dishwasher, sink or in the shower. Instead of going down the drain after use, it can be used for irrigating the garden and fill the pond. Very efficient solutions can be achieved by recycling the sewerage and grey-water together through an EPA approved worm-farm system. This water can also be used for irrigation of the garden. Independently from the supply situation, I recommend some efficiency points to consider like:

Use a short shower and you’ll save time, money and water.

Repair your dripping taps. In only some hours you loose with a dripping tap enough to fill a bath!

Don’t let the tap keep running when you are cleaning your teeth, with this you save 40 L per day already.

Toilets are one of the largest users of water in the home. Install a dual flush cistern and use the shorter flush whenever possible, you will save 80 L per day.

Get used to use the plug when you’re washing up.

Rinse your razor in a plugged sink and turn off the tap when shaving – you could save more than 3500 litres per year.

Mulch your garden to cut evaporation loss by up to 70% and help to prevent weeds

Water longer, but less often, to encourage deeper roots and general hardiness of plants

Waste

Every household in Australia generates approximately 1,5 tones of waste each year. For every tone of waste we produce at home, 5 tones are created manufacturing the products we consume. In many cases ten tones of raw materials result in just one tone of finished products. This shows how important is selective shopping to diminish the huge energy and land consumption needed to maintain our life quality.

Walking through your house you will find also hazardous materials or products you and your family use every day like cleaners, paints, paint thinners, motor oils, gasoline, and pesticides. This hazardous materials are dangerous for people during their use and even when stored, and for the environment. Meanwhile there are many available alternative and non-toxic products for all purposes. Ask in the shops for environmentally friendly products and avoid chemicals whenever possible. Even in toiletries there are health and environment damaging products. Choose organic and non-petrochemical derived products. There are many opportunities to use our waste more wisely. The three Rs point us in the right direction: R educe; R euse and R ecycle. Further tips are:

Reduce the amount of packaging you buy, reuse what you can, and recycle the rest.

Look for products without packaging – tools, fresh produce, dry goods. PVC packing can be carcinogenic.

Avoid individually wrapped portions (cheese slices, juice, etc.).

Favor environmentally friendly products even if they cost a little more. You will save on health bills.

Choose rechargeable batteries and long-life bulbs.

Avoid disposable razors, pens, pencils and lighters.

Choose long-lasting metal or wood toys rather than plastic.

Buy recycled paper bathroom tissue, napkins and kitchen towels. Use fabric napkins instead of paper ones.

Buy quality products and keep them for a lifetime.

Use reusable containers for lunch and leftovers. Please don’t buy the antibacterial plastic containers, they will damage your health!

Make an all-purpose cleaner: 1 gallon hot water, 1/4 cup ammonia, 1/4 cup vinegar & 1 tablespoon baking soda. Safe on most surfaces, rinses off with water.

Use hot vinegar instead of paint thinner on brushes.

Prepare a simple furniture polish with either lemon oil and beeswax, beeswax and olive oil, or mix 2 teaspoons lemon oil with one pint mineral oil in a spray bottle.

Use baking soda to clean sinks, toilet bowls and showers without harsh chemicals. Also, only a box will be left instead of plastic bottles.

Clean windows and mirrors with a simple solution of 3 tablespoons of white vinegar and two cups of warm water in a spray bottle. Apply with wadded up newspaper. Or use an environmentally friendly window cleaning cloth. You will not need cleaners, just warm water.

When spring cleaning or moving, have a yard sale or donate items to charities instead of throwing them away.

Energy

It has been estimated that in 11 % of total energy is used in our homes and 38% in transport. Home heating and cooling use approximately 40 to 50 % of household energy in Australia. In warmer climates like in Queensland the largest amount of energy is used for heating water. In consideration of the amount of sunny days in Australia solar water heating should be largely widespread. When I visited for the first time Greece in 1994 I saw a huge amount of solar water heaters, almost on every roof. Until today this simple technology couldn’t achieve a high acceptance in Australia, despite of the very favorable weather conditions. Depending on the climatic conditions the design of a house should be planned in such a way that you benefit from shaded indoor and outdoor living areas during hot weather periods and vice versa when the weather is cold. A huge effect can be reached with a properly positioned, sized and protected glazing.

To save energy you have to check if your appliances work energy-efficient. Upgrading them will pay for themselves over time and contribute to a cleaner environment. Water pumping of water is also very energy consuming. You save considerable energy if you place a new house below the water source so that gravity can be used to move the water. It is better to run an electrical water pump once daily rather than intermittently as the pump uses considerable power each time it starts. Just a few small changes in your household routines can add up over the year to big savings on your utility bills. Here are some examples:

Air conditioning:

• One of the most effective and inexpensive ways to reduce your air conditioning costs is to adjust your thermostat setting. By using ceiling fans to supplement and air conditioner, most people can raise their thermostat setting three degrees and feel just as comfortable.

• When you leave home, turn off the air conditioning or set the thermostat up a few degrees. Keep doors and windows closed when air conditioning is on. Turn off kitchen or bathroom exhaust fans when your air conditioning is on.

• Use ceiling fans only in occupied rooms since fans cool people, not rooms.

• Make sure your home is properly insulated. In existing homes, wall insulation may be too expensive to install, so concentrate on attic and floor insulation.

Washing:

• Wash full loads whenever possible. When smaller loads are necessary, remember to adjust the water level accordingly.

• Use cold water (70 F to 80 F) for most clothes and for rinsing.

• Use the short wash cycle for lightly soiled garments.

Refrigeration:

• The coils of your refrigerator should be clean, not clogged with dirt.

• If you can feel cold air around the closed door or there is a great deal of moisture collecting at certain spots around the door, your refrigerator is costing more than it should to operate.

• If your refrigerator temperature is set too low, your operating costs will increase. Refrigerator temperature should be 35 to 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Freezers should be zero.

• The more often you open the refrigerator door, the higher the operating costs will be.

• Putting a second refrigerator in a hot garage or utility room can double operating costs. If you need the extra storage, keep it as full as possible. If you don’t need the space, you might want to “pull the plug.”

Making an environmentally conscious housing decision will not only help reduce your consumption of energy and natural resources, but will also lower your maintenance and energy bills. In almost every house there are improvements possible. In most of the cases the changes are financially interesting because they may pay for themselves in quite a short time. If you are looking for a new home then consider consulting an expert on this field. Building an environmentally friendly and healthy house is still considered as expensive. If you take the right decisions and use a properly adapted design, then you will save from day one. The type of house you live in is one of the most important decisions you can make as a consumer.

Our brain needs glucose as its main fuel, and certain amino acids (simple molecules that make up proteins) like tryptophan to make the right neurotransmitters. If we don't have enough glucose, we feel slow and we cannot process information, we cannot think. We cannot perform other activities as well, like many unconscious or automatic activities that keep us alive, like breathing, feeling thirst or hunger, being conscious of dangers and many others. Our brain keeps us alive.

If we don't have enough amino acids, our brain cannot make enough neurotransmitters, which the tiny molecules that make cells to communicate between each other, and that make nervous impulses to travel through our nervous system. That means that we get depressed, slow, non-reactive, emotional, irrational and many other characteristics that define mental illnesses. The same happens when we don't get in our diets enough vitamins, as our brains cannot make up the right molecules. An example is stress, which depletes our organism of vitamins, specially group B vitamins, which are needed to make neurotransmitters. And after a long stress period, we may feel always tired, sad and unable to think clearly (amongst other symptoms).

Good nutrition maintains your immune system ready to fight pathogens . Vitamin C is amongst the most known vitamins. One of its roles is to keep our immune system working properly. When the immune system is healthy, we don't get ill and we don't have pains. As simple as that. There are several other substances that we need to have in our diets to maintain our immune system. One of those is good fats like omega-3 and 6 fats. These are found in seeds, nuts and fish, mainly. These are basic to keep inflammatory processes under control or non-existent, and our hormones well balanced. When the fat balance is not adequate, hormonal systems get unbalanced as well, and chronic inflammatory processes start building up.

When the fat balance is not adequate, hormonal systems get unbalanced as well, and chronic inflammatory processes start building up.

Good nutrition keeps you young and beautiful . Omega 3’s and 6’s also help us in maintaining youth and beauty. These fats keep the membranes of cells in good shape. When cell membranes are healthy, they are firm and supple, like a well pumped balloon. When cell membranes are not receiving the right fats to regenerate properly, they get soft and irregular, and the cells cannot keep their shape. They would be the equivalent of punched balloons.

One very important factor that damage cells membranes, are oxidants, like tobacco smoke, alcohol, some chemicals, burnt fats, and many pollutants. This substances oxidise membrane fats, and therefore the membranes become soft and irregular, and the cell cannot keep the right balance or substances inside and out. They are punched balloons. One of the substances that avoid this damage is vitamin C, because is an antioxidant. There many other antioxidants, like selenium from Brazil nuts, vitamin E from seeds oils, and flavonoids from fruits, specially berries.

Antioxidants also keep enzymes healthy. Enzymes are the molecules that drive our bodies metabolic reactions, therefore we need them to function properly. We need them to produce energy from our food, digest foods properly, produce the right amount of hormones, store nutrients and many other functions.

These are only some of the benefits of a good nutrition, and just a few examples. If you eat the perfect foods for you, you will feel full of energy, minimize illnesses, think clearly, be focused and have therefore all the tools to live to your full potential. The right nutrition for you is therefore the most easy, amazing and delicious way to maintain health and be a happy and fulfilled human being.

Good nutrition is the basis for health . This is not just a topical phrase, that we say to seem intelligent, it is just one of nature's laws.

Your body is made up of cells, liquids and substances that are made of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, plus minerals and vitamins. The same way that a cake is made of those ingredients too: eggs are the proteins, butter the fats, and flour and sugar the carbohydrates. Minerals and vitamins are the spices and baking powder.

Do you know what happens when you use bad quality ingredients to make a cake? Well, that it doesn't come out nice and it doesn't taste nice, it is not healthy. Imagine we make the right mixture, but we don't put spices and baking powder. What do we get? Not a cake, maybe a tasteless hard cookie.

Well, the same happens to our bodies. If we put bad proteins, bad fats and bad carbohydrates into us, what we get is a bad quality body. If you eat good quality food, with enough vitamins and minerals, then you get good quality muscles and bones, skin and teeth, hormones and neurotransmitters.

But not only the quality is important, the relative proportions too are essential. Imagine that one day we decide to make a cake with one egg instead of two, and we put double the sugar and double the flour, and no fat. What will we get? Well, not a really good cake, if we get a cake at all. We may get something similar to a dry giant cookie.

Well, many diets nowadays that we eat are like this. We eat too much sugar, or too much flour, and refined besides, so that we make sure that there are no vitamins and minerals left there. Or we eat proteins and fat in a nice barbecue, with some refined flour too. In this cases we are eating too much of one or two ingredients, and too little of the others.

What is a good diet then? The perfect nutrition provides our bodies with excellent quality and enough quantities of proteins, fats (yes, fats too!) and carbohydrates, plus vitamins, minerals and enzymes, so that we can rebuild and maintain our bodies in a perfect health state.

Good nutrition is the basis for health . This is not just a topical phrase, that we say to seem intelligent, it is just one of nature’s laws.

Well, that it doesn’t come out nice and it doesn’t taste nice, it is not healthy. Imagine we make the right mixture, but we don’t put spices and baking powder.

Good nutrition makes our bodies be in perfect shape:

• Bones and muscles working properly

• Blood, lymph and other body liquids circulating properly, carrying oxygen to all parts (cells) and carrying wastes away from them

• Organs working in good order, so digestion is good, nutrients are absorbed and carried to the right places, and wastes elimination work accurately

• Nerves and brain working at their full potential, therefore we are alert and happy, thinking clearly and focused

• We are healthy, feel rested and energetic in the morning and ready to rest happily in the evening

• We feel good, in body and mind

Good nutrition is good for your mind. Our mind is a very complex and delicate living computer, it needs really first quality ingredients, with the right quality and at the right moment to work at peak performance. Our brain needs glucose as its main fuel, and certain amino acids (simple molecules that make up proteins) like tryptophan to make the right neurotransmitters. If we don’t have enough glucose, we feel slow and we cannot process information, we cannot think. We cannot perform other activities as well, like many unconscious or automatic activities that keep us alive, like breathing, feeling thirst or hunger, being conscious of dangers and many others. Our brain keeps us alive.

If we don’t have enough amino acids, our brain cannot make enough neurotransmitters, which the tiny molecules that make cells to communicate between each other, and that make nervous impulses to travel through our nervous system. That means that we get depressed, slow, non-reactive, emotional, irrational and many other characteristics that define mental illnesses. The same happens when we don’t get in our diets enough vitamins, as our brains cannot make up the right molecules.

When the immune system is healthy, we don’t get ill and we don’t have pains.

That's because what is good for nature is also good for us . We are, like it or not, a part of nature, and our bodies are designed to live and maintain health through continuous beneficial interaction with our environment. If our environment is not conducive to health and wellbeing, we are fighting a constant uphill battle to maintain health and recover from everyday stresses and wear on the body.

Keep in mind that illnesses and allergies are often a product of the interaction between your body-mind and your environment. Your health will depend to a great extent on whether you create and maintain a health-supporting environment.

It can help to see yourself as the energy body that you are, living in a world of energy. In some areas, you are the positive pole, in others, the negative. If you try to be all of one or the other – all giving or all taking – you throw the relationship between you and nature (including those around you) completely out of balance. The result? Blocked or corrupted energy, distress, and poor health.

There is a huge amount of information out there on living a more natural life. Some of it is a bit extreme, but lots of it can be easily applied and adapted to your life. You can find dozens of easy, practical tips in my book, “Healthy Home Secrets”.

In the long run, the secret of living in harmony with nature is balance between what you give to the world and what you take from it, between what you take into your body and what you take out of it, and moderation in all things. Balance is the key .

Remember. Every step you take – even small steps - bring you closer to ideal balance in body, mind and spirit. Best wishes on your progress.

A combination of things that together move us from negativity to a positive attitude and what is often called greater personal effectiveness. When we are present in the moment, we are not tied to the past with its regrets, guilt, and other negative baggage, nor are we distracted by wishful thinking or dreaming about the future. Instead, we are centred in this moment, which enables us to live fully, consciously and productively .

Living in the moment reduces the major causes of stress: worry or fear about the future, or dwelling on past hurts or errors. It frees us to focus more productively on doing what must be done now to get the results we want. It also frees us to appreciate what is already around us, and to give to those around us with a lighter more joyful heart. Our life force flows more freely; our health flourishes; it is easier to balance the different parts of our lives and our emotions and to find calm.

A calm person is at peace with himself and the world. A calm mind is able to be fully in the moment. It is the secret of emotional resilience and a keen intellect. When we are able to maintain calm and to return to calm in times of stress, we become more reflective. We are more able to stop before reacting, and to choose our responses based on our own values and ideals instead of feeling pushed to act in this or that way. A calm mind is an enormous source of inner strength and resilience.

Stretching helps release accumulated tension and free toxins from the joints. Strength building creates stronger muscles and organs.

Exercise not only strengthens our muscles, heart and lungs; it also ensures that more oxygen-rich blood is pumped to all parts of the body so that every cell is bathed in vital nutrients, and stimulates the release of healing, ‘happy' hormones. Our plump cells are rejuvenated, undoing the effects of aging so that we look and feel younger.

Moreover, wastes and toxins are quickly flushed through the body's elimination channels, preventing the harmful buildup of sludge and toxins around our cells and in our tissues. Your lymphatic system, which carries cellular waste and toxins away from our cells, cannot push the toxins out unless the body is active. This can cause your body to store weight, since fat is an ideal storage place for toxins. Only one hour of moderate exercise a day can keep your body's energy, nutrients, and cleansing processes flowing: that can be as little as a brisk daily walk in the fresh air.

Enough rest

When it is at rest, your body repairs and counteracts the normal damage and stress caused by everyday living. Without frequent rest, your body can be quickly pushed too far, stressing the immune system, and making you more susceptible to infection, illness and disease.

Enough rest

When it is at rest, your body repairs and counteracts the normal damage and stress caused by everyday living. Without frequent rest, your body can be quickly pushed too far, stressing the immune system, and making you more susceptible to infection, illness and disease.

Sleep is therefore enormously important to your health, both physiological and psychological. Even 30 minutes of additional sleep at night can make a huge difference to your mood, your ability to think clearly and to learn, and your body’s ability to recover from daily stresses. Recent research showed that starting school even 1 hour later can give school children the sleep they need to significantly improve their school performance.

The amount of sleep needed by any individual can vary, though around 8 hours is usually considered a good average. You can gauge what you need by how you feel. If you are continually feeling stressed, tired, or irritable, or are forgetful and overly anxious, you may not be getting enough sleep. Add another 30 minutes to your sleep time and note the difference.

You also need enough rest in addition to good sleep. How you rest is up to you. Many find deep relaxation exercises very restful and refreshing. A calm stroll along the beach can be restful, as can stopping now and then in a busy day to stretch, or just sitting and breathing in the clean air as you watch the clouds. Qi Gong, Tai Chi and Yoga can be restful as they relax and calm both body and mind, and the smooth motions wash the tired body with fresh energy, oxygen and blood.

Most important is the quality of your rest …and also of your sleep. Built up stress or over-tiredness can cause disturbed, shallow sleep, as can allergies and other health problems. Worrying, negative emotions, feeling overwhelmed, helpless or angry can make it difficult to really rest. You might sit down with a cup of tea, but your distressed mind is not resting, which means that your body is not fully relaxed.

The point is that both your body and mind need breaks through the day, time to let go and relax. If you find this difficult, you may find the sixth health secret especially helpful.

We are always being told to eat healthier foods, but not many of us appreciate the enormous role of food in building and growing health of body and mind. Food is your body's fuel, providing your body and brain with the nutrients and energy they need to build health, resist disease, function well, and keep you looking and feeling young. If the quality or quantity of your food is poor, your body will simply cannot have enough fuel to provide the energy you need, or the fuel will be of poor quality.

Nor will your immune system work properly if your foods lack the fibre, nutrients and enzymes needed to support and build health. A strong immune system is your best ally in the quest for lifelong health and resistance to disease. To build and maintain good immunity, you must take in all the nutrients your body needs to fuels its many metabolic activities, to help detoxify and to heal your body, to draw on when under additional stress, to nourish your nervous system and brain, and to maintain a healthy biochemistry.

Good nutrition also helps maintain the right pH needed for metabolic processes such as digestion, circulation of blood, and release of body chemicals. To maintain the correct balance of biochemicals – enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters etc. – your body requires a more alkaline internal environment. Too much acidity weakens the immune system, promoting infection and inflammation, and upsetting many metabolic processes that are essential to good health.

We are always being told to eat healthier foods, but not many of us appreciate the enormous role of food in building and growing health of body and mind. Food is your body’s fuel, providing your body and brain with the nutrients and energy they need to build health, resist disease, function well, and keep you looking and feeling young.

Fortunately, what you eat has an enormous effect on your body’s acid balance. A diet rich in raw or lightly cooked vegetables and fruit is the best way to alkalinise your body. This in turn supports the body’s natural detoxification processes, and strengthens your immune system.
