(MAY 2012) – Former Lynyrd Skynyrd Tour Manager Ron Eckerman, who survived the 1977 plane crash that claimed the lives of six members of the band and crew, talked exclusively with radio affiliates of Envision Radio Networks®’ Guest Services on Tuesday. Eckerman shared his personal account of the crash and the court cases following it with the KQ Morning Show on 92 KQRS-FM/Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN.

Eckerman explained it took him all this time to write his new book, Turn It UP!: Love, Life, and Death, Southern Style, because he was suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, “I tell ya, I am very lucky to have survived [the crash]. Sometimes, I wonder if I survived at all, though.”

Eckerman described what it was like to be in a plane that is going down, “It is hard to gauge time when you are in something like that. But I think it took us about 10, maybe even 15 minutes before the actual crash. The pilots first turned around and said ‘hey, prepare for an emergency landing’. An emergency landing, not a crash. A few minutes later the flight crew opened the door and yelled out ‘prepare for a crash’. That was the first time we were aware we were going to crash.”

Eckerman recalled that he never imagined they would actually crash, “The former pilot told me that unless we were going down in mountains or a forest he could get the plane down regardless. Unfortunately, we were in a forest.”

Beyond the survivor’s guilt he said he still carries with him, Eckerman revealed he had to deal with a legal struggle surrounding the crash, “I signed for the plane. Everybody on that plane sued me. So I was in court for a couple years before I got cleared of all liability. You know, it caused some very hard feelings between us.”

(MAY 2012) – Paul Shaffer, David Letterman’s longtime musical director and host of Envision Radio Networks®’Paul Shaffer’s 60-Second Rewind, spoke to the New York Post about the passing of Donna Summer.

“I had the privilege of listening to her playing just piano behind her,” recalled Shaffer. “She had a gorgeous, magnificent voice, really. Slightly underrated. People didn’t really realize what she was capable of.”

Shaffer co-wrote the song “It’s Raining Men” with Paul Jabara who wrote “Last Dance” and “No More Tears” for Summer. Shaffer commented, “It would have been wonderful to hear her sing “It’s Raining Men”, but, boy, she had some beautiful [songs] of her own.”

“I never thought that her number would be up. Man, it closes the book, I think, on disco. I’ll never forget Donna Summer,” stated Shaffer.

(MAY 2012) – Actor, musician and philanthropist Gary Sinise talked exclusively with radio affiliates of Envision Radio Networks®’Guest Services on Friday. Sinise, who plays Mac Taylor on CSI: NY, discussed the future of the long-running TV show with The Bob Rivers Show on KJR-FM/Seattle.

“We don’t know if we’re coming back next year. We’re going to find out next week whether CSI: NY will be back for season 9,” revealed Sinise. “We’re hoping we come back!”

When asked if he would tour full-time with the Lt. Dan Band (named for his Academy Award-nominated role in Forest Gump), if things don’t go well with CSI: NY Sinise said, “I already have a very, very full schedule this year with the band. We are booked almost every weekend of the year. If the show doesn’t get picked up, I’ll have a little more time to rest!”
