Sorry guys but the Epic Dolls podcast is focused on the perspective of the female gamers.

Time:
Epic Dolls is a bi-weekly podcast so consistency and time commitment are a big deal. Schedules can be flexible but we will need to set aside about 2 hours every other week for actual recording time. And you will probably be doing several hours a week worth of research to keep up on info so we’ll have topics to discuss.

Enthusiasm:
One thing that is important to me with the show is a positive attitude and love of the game. I don’t do a podcast to take a hour out of people’s day for them to listen to me complain. WoW is first and foremost a game and we should be having fun.

Knowledge:
It’s important to share a lot of good information on the show and I need a co-host who knows their stuff. You don’t have to be an expert but experience with a high level character and desire to share knowledge and learn about the game are essential.

I know this may sound like a lot but it’s really not that scary. Podcasting is really fun and rewarding so don’t be shy. Burning Crusade changed the raiding landscape, and Wrath looks to be set to do it again. In the old world, the Tier gear raids were 40 mans – BC dropped that to 10 for your starting raid, and 25 for most of the Tier raids. This certainly allowed for smaller guilds to get a shot at raiding. It also meant that of those 25 people, you probably needed them all to be on the ball, at least until they got overgeared! In Northrend, you will have your choice of raid size flavors.

We took to the skies! Our new mounts in the Outlands gave us the power of “As the Crow Flies.” I still dive off of Scryers’ Rise and shift to flight form on the way down…every single day. I’ve also thoughtlessly done the same thing off Aldor rise…on my hunter. It doesn’t work out so well for her.

Arenas: PvP for the hardcore. I have a love/hate relationship with Arena myself. I like it when one of my teams does well, which is rarely. As a feral druid, I’ve spent most of my time in the arena feeling like I was making the rest of my team 4 man (or two…or solo) it. The arena and honor gear has allowed many a young 70 to not feel like a total scrub. And since I while away my game hours on a PvP server, I suspect I might get some practical use out of it come next week…for a few levels at least!

The Lore! Illidan! Medihv! Akama! Kael’Thas! The History! Mount Hyjal! Old Hillsbrad! There was so much lore to be had in the Burning Crusade, and again, it looks like Wrath of the Lich King will deliver in spades in this department.

The Achievements! Though they are a recent addition and actually a part of the underpinnings of Wrath of the Lich King, I have been having So Much Fun with them! I am nowhere near done with the completable ones, and my todo list will be getting a lot larger next week!

As I think back, these are some of the things I’m most pleased with in my Burning Crusade Escapades.

I got to raid! Family and time factors kept me from raiding previously, but in Burning Crusade, with the style of play and the fairly casual guild I found myself in, I got to see places I initially thought I would not step foot into. While we never killed Kael as a guild, or completed anything past the first few bosses in Hyjal and the Black Temple, it was enough for me. I will always remember the shrieks of joy in Vent when we downed Gruul and Vashj for the the first time. I shall be holding onto my Vials of Eternity quest as long as it takes. Someday that title will be mine…unless they remove the ability to complete it, of course.

I got an alt to max level for the first time ever! My hunter is actually running a photo finish race with the druid on which I like best currently. And my young shaman which I have been toying with recently is quite fun too. To be honest, it’s going to be rather hard to focus on leveling my main for a while again, I’ve been having too much fun just futzing around with reps, achievements, and alts!

I found a little subgroup of people to run with that are the first in-game set of people I’d consider to be friends, even though they are just voices on our guild’s Ventrillo server. (Hugs to the B-Team!) I look forward to leveling with them again, since we came together as a group at the start of Hellfire. (Wherein my favorite prot/ret pally told me, “Come on to Hellfire Ramparts…it won’t take more than half an hour!” Two hours later….)

The Burning Crusade has been an epic journey, and while I may not personally have had a hand in it, Illidan was defeated, Kil’Jaeden thrown back, and the world lies safe…

…For a little while, at least.

Oh the agony!

For one, I just filled up the last slot on my current server (The Venture Co, PvP/RP – feel free to drop in and say “Hi!” anytime!) and now have to decide who to delete. But even as my eyes lit up with glee, the crying was starting. “Oh Noes, all these people can level in peace on their PvE realms and then come grief the newbies on PvP realms!” “Oh Noes, the real PvPers are going to have to mow through all the PvE newbs now!”

Let me reassure you that by and large, your PvE server probably won’t suddenly be empty ’cause everyone left for PvP servers, nor do I expect the PvP servers will be suddenly overwhelmed by a surge of “carebears.” It has been my belief for a very long time that this transfer restriction is a bit silly, because characters who “grew up” on a PvP server are still going to have a distinct advantage in terms of experience over PvE transfers.

Anyone can get a nice set of PvP gear through diligent running of the Battlegrounds. On the one hand, this means if you are willing to put in the time to get the gear, your character is technically ready to engage in PvP. The flip side of this coin: just because you have a decent set of PvP gear doesn’t mean you are ready for a PvP server! (But if you think you might be, I encourage you to try one!)

Life on a PvP server is a little different. Your character is diligently questing away in Zangermarsh when you see a red name weaving toward you. On a PvE server, you may or may not even notice it. On a PvP server, you quickly learn to notice such occurrences, and when you see that red name, you quickly run through your “fight or flight” checklist. Level? 70 (I’m 63…probably should mount up and be ready to hoof it) If it’s using a blue glowing mace – probably a healer. I can cautiously continue questing and see what they do. But if it’s wielding daggers and it just stealthed…get out of dodge!

I do see a lot of characters being moved initially. Not overwhelming numbers – realistically speaking, if your characters are on a PvE or PvP server right now, that was probably a conscious decision on your part, and we can assume for most people the reason you picked the type of server you did remain in force, and you will probably stick with your server.

But for the rest of us, this is a wonderful thing. I had no idea what I was doing when Warcraft went live, so my first character is on a PvE server. Having server hopped a bit since then, and been on PvP servers every time after that first one, I like them and would not roll a character on a PvE realm again. But I’ve always wanted that first character back, though I didn’t really want to level a priest again! So she will be getting moved as soon as I figure who gets the boot on my current server. *grin* This change is also a boon for people who have either had their original circle of friends reroll PvP, or alted on a different server and made new friends there, and wished they could move their character to be with the old/new friends.

In the end, I think there will be a group of people who got their PvP gear on PvE servers, then move to a PvP server to “have fun” – and perhaps bite off more than they expected. There will be a group of people who move to PvP servers and find out that maybe they aren’t so scary after all, and like it. And there will be people like me, who will at last be reunited with their old characters! But in all these cases, I don’t believe this long overdue policy change will cause much of a ripple on the PvP realms – some new people will come and either assimilate or eventually move back to their original servers!

13. Eggbert – A quest reward only available during Children’s week. He comes from completing the Outlands orphans quest lines. You can find them at the Orphanage in Lower City. If you are not max on level or faction with Lower City, this quest is well worth doing for the nice bit of XP and faction you also get. Eggbert is a baby Chocobo, and has the cute habit of running madly all over the place. (And look at those big ole eyes!)

12. Disgusting Oozeling – A world drop pet. Level 50+ slimes and oozes have a small chance of dropping Oozing Bags, and those bags have about a 1% chance of containing the pet. This pet has a negative effect on its’ owner when summoned, so you might not want it out while, well, doing anything other than sitting in town. But heck, it turns you neon green – what’s not to like?! The Ewwwzling is BoE, so you might occasionally find one on your Auction House.

11. Black Tabby – A world drop kitty pet with about a 20% rate off the rare NPC the Dalaran Spellscribe in Silverpine Forest. This NPC is only killable by Horde, so Alliance will need to have a cross faction friend help get it, or check the Neutral Auction Houses.

10. Black Kingsnake – Unlimited stock, purchase from the Snake Troll in Orgrimmnar, Xan’tish for 50 silver. I like snakes! Alliance will need a cross faction friend or check the neutral Auction Houses, factional pets will often be available for prices ranging from reasonable to wildly inflated.

9. Worg Cage – Ah, old world dungeon crawls. How I hated LBRS back then. But if you want this little guy, you’ll be venturing deep into LBRS to find the requested worg pups. I imagine this quest is solable to most level 70’s. Talk to Kibler at Flame Crest to start this quest. He also has the quest to get the crystal spider pet, so if you are doing one quest, you might as well do both…

8. Firefly – A world drop pet, you will need to go kill Bogflare Needlers in the Zangermarsh until you are blue in the face, and then kill some more. If you were a fan of the much mourned Joss Whedon show “Firefly” you will appreciate his flavor text.

7. Hyacinth Macaw – A world drop pet which has the notable distinction of being the rarest drop rate pet in the game. Wage a genocidal war on the pirates of Stranglethorn Vale if you want one of these. (Or if you prefer to go the opposite tack, wage war on the guards of Booty Bay to become Hated with them, you can then do a quest to get the other insanely rare parrot, the Blood Parrot)

6. Tiny Sporebat – Available once you reach Exalted with the Sporeggar faction, who can be found in the Zangermarsh. The cost is 30 Glowcaps, which are ground spawns all over Zanger. Once you have the proper rep and the caps, this little guy can be purchased from Mycah in the Sporeggar Village.

5. Panda Cub – You only got it if you purchased the Collector’s Edition of the original World of Warcraft (The other special pets being the Zergling and Mini Diablo). Since there was also a special pet available with the Burning Crusade CE, I am hoping there will be one with Wrath’s CE too!

4. Sprite Darter Hatchling – An Alliance only quest that runs you all over creation will eventually reward you with this gem of a little flying Faerie Drake. To start this chain, travel to Feralas and speak to Kindal Moonweaver. You will have to do a set of prerequisite quests starting with “Freedom for All Creatures.” Upon completion of that chain, she will give you the line to get the baby Darter. Part of it is timed, so I recommend that you read the questline on Wowhead or some similar place and have the materials you will need already acquired.

3. Phoenix Hatchling – Poor Kael’Thas. If you want this pet, visit Magister’s Terrace. A lot. Things I have read indicate that this pet drops in both normal and heroic mode, but I’ve only seen it drop in normal mode (twice), and I ran MGT Heroic a *lot* more than I did normal.

2. Spirit of Competition – Brand new! If you like pets, hop into a battleground and do it now! To celebrate the Olympics, Blizzard is offering us a carrot to compete a bit amongst ourselves – but there’s a time limit…this pet will only be around as long as the real Games are. You have an approximate 1 in 8 chance of getting this pet as a reward for emerging victorious from a battleground (any of them can give the pet reward, so play your favorite or whichever one your faction does best in on your Battlegroup!)

1. Hippogryph Hatchling – A CCG item. For the CCG pets, you get a code off a rare card from the Collectible Card game and can redeem it for the pet. Unfortunately, if you don’t collect the cards or play the game yourself, you’d be trusting eBay or the like to get a code. Some of the coolest pets are CCG items too (Dragon Kite, Bananas)! *pouts*

Ok, so I actually profiled a bakers’ dozen, and it was hard to keep it to that few! As you can see, there are almost as many ways to get pets as there are pets to be gotten. I love collecting, and these little guys are a perfect way to scratch that itch. My only issue historically has been that I tend to have more items than I have bank and bag space for, so I was excited to learn that in Wrath, the vanity pets and mounts will become spells in your spellbook and won’t take up inventory slots anymore. I suspect my future holds a whirlwind tour of vendors to purchase all the owlhawks, rabbits, moths, dragonhawks, etc. in their full rainbow of colors.
