Drum roll please….

Two months ago back in Sydney I decided writing in a travel journal was just not going to suffice. My head whirled with endless daily experiences and lessons learned with no way to get it all out in the detail I knew I would want years down the line. Thus, Two Backpacks was born. A website platform that would allow me to share my adventures through pictures, writing, and most importantly video! I not only wanted to document my travels, but also aide and motivate others who dream to lead a mobile life. I could write for ages, but video speaks volumes. Here is my first podcast…
Every year as the 4th of July rolls around we find ourselves prepping for massive rooftop BBQ’s, smuggling illegal fireworks in from Mexico, and concocting a beach ball size bowl of potato salad. Independence day celebrations are hard to beat. But, let us not forget what this glorious day is all about. Freedom.

Whether you are hiking the Himalayas, training for a 5k, or floating down a babbling river in an inner tube, you will need some high octane fuel to maintain suitable energy levels for all your Summer activities. Snacking or munching several small meals a day keeps your blood sugar from slumping to burnout levels. Stable energy + fiery metabolism = almost the ideal snacking technique. What could make your snacks even better?
Email. Over the last few weeks or so I have been inundated with mail from several of you fabulous readers about how to build a blog, make money from it, and eventually go mobile like I have. I was racking my brain as to how to even start explaining the process until my dear blogger friend Glen over at PluginID launched a free ebook on how to build a successful blog from the ground up. I have read through his 69 pages of in-depth content and am, as always, impressed with his clarity. His proof is in the pudding. He owns and writes one of the most popular self improvement blogs on the net. Quite an accomplishment considering PluginID has only been online for about a year.

Glen’s ebook introduces all that you’ll need to know to start a blog literally within minutes. Once you have a blog or online business up and running you’ll be one step closer to launching a location independent lifestyle. Yay! My new website Two Backpacks will be unveiled in a few days where I’ll give you all my tips and advice on mobile living.

I can’t wait to hear about all of your blogging adventures. When you have something up and running be sure to let me know and I’ll link to you. Now get going!

This was my mantra today. After a week of nesting in my new home of Melbourne, I finally had to catch my breath. Who knew it could be so hard to regroup and settle thoughts?! Those damn things…they keep us up all night, and pressure us into doing things we’d rather not. At some points I feel like being a five year old; sitting down in the middle of the sidewalk with crossed arms and a big pout, refusing to do anything.
Having a hard time making ends meet? Join the club. As more and more people are turned upside down and shaken for loose change by the current economy, the last thing on all of our minds is tossing extra money towards charities. Volunteering is out of the question since most of us would willingly saw off our pinkie toe for a 25 hour day. Besides, any extra time is probably better spent working for more groceries and gas money. So what are charities supposed to do in the meantime? Suck it up, work below their means and get creative with ways to raise money.
On my third day in St. Kilda’s BASE hostel I happened to sit down at the computers right next to another digital nomad. Toggsy, originally from the Gold Coast of Australia, has spent the last seven years interviewing people from around the world. His goal:

“to make a show about peoples stories and dreams… Inspiring stories from people all around the world… And being open to filming anything and everything that happens along the way… I always find when traveling that one adventure leads to another… So I love having the camera out to capture what’s next etc… A handicam and a laptop to edit the clips together… Thanks for taking the time out to have a look… Hope you enjoy the interviews :)”

After chatting with Toggsy for a few minutes about my journey he wanted to set up an interview for the next morning. An 11pm, half awake interview wasn’t the best idea! After brekky the next morning we shot the following…

I definitely recommend you check out Toggsy’s site The Web Show for more inspiring stories. After spending a few years as a radio host he jumped into the online world of podcasting before blogging even existed. He was thinking way beyond what was even technically available. Cheers for big dreamers!

It’s truly amazing what type of people you meet traveling. You never know who you are sitting next to so why not say hi and have a chat?
