Chapter 10

2012-04-05T12:49:00.000-04:00

Chapter 10 is not finished, but it is progressing well and has been a blast to write so far and the action just keeps pouring onto the pages.

Despite how fun it is, I did have to take a step back and do some additional editing again throughout the book, so that slowed my process a bit, but things are back on track and we should see a completed Chapter 10 this month.

Aurion is getting crazier by the day and the ride is about to get pretty wild, so hold on tight.

You can't judge a book by it's cover .... Au contraire mon ami!

2012-01-13T13:58:00.001-05:00

With eight chapters written, I am chomping at the bit to publish what I have with BookieJar, and to push ahead into the rest of the book. However, a few things are holding me back at the moment. Editing and artwork.

Some simple editing still needs to be done of the currently completed chapters. Not a big deal, but it requires time to be able to focus on my work, and not have distractions around me. Not typically an easy task, no matter where I am. But it needs to get done. I haven't rushed it too much though, because my other major hurdle remains.

Artwork has eluded me thus far. I would like to make sure I have the cover art in place before I go to eBook. It isn't necessary, but it is my preference. So despite using Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, and contacting a local art school; I am still in a holding pattern. I suppose most think it naive of me to look for someone like myself, yet with a different skill set. You know, an aspiring artist. Someone that loves to create art, yet is looking for an opportunity and not just a fortune.

The truth is, I am looking for an artist that is willing to help create the cover for Beating Back the Darkness with the appropriate quality and style that I am looking for. Yet, I am looking for someone that is not expecting standard market price, which from all estimates has ranged from several hundred to almost ten thousand dollars. Instead, I am looking for someone that is hoping to find that one opportunity that will change their life. At the same time, it needs to be a fit in terms of quality and style.

So my tiny budget and I continue to search for the elusive diamond in the rough aspiring fantasy artist. It looks like I will end up going to publish the ebook without the cover in place, and if that is the case so be it. I would much rather not have a cover in place, than having the wrong cover.

We always say you can't judge a book by it's cover, yet whether we can or can not is irrelevant. What is relevant, is that people do judge books (and everything else for that matter) by their covers more often than not. Call me a cover snob if you want, but I will not settle for less.

Sincerely,
Tiger

Synopsis

2012-01-05T15:04:00.002-05:00

The world of Aurion has enjoyed relative peace, but things are changing. An ancient evil has been awakened, and the shadow grows. Darkness spreads through the land, leaving terror and despair in its wake.

Old friends and enemies will be forced to make unlikely alliances as they fight for survival. Can the people of Aurion discover the archaic power needed to save their world? If they want to survive, they must learn from their history. Unlocking the secrets of their ancestors is the key to Beating Back the Darkness!

Preparing to publish!

2012-01-04T22:12:00.000-05:00

Already? Yeah, it sounds crazy right?

I am in the process of editing. Because it is clearly not my strong suit, I have enlisted help as well. In addition to going through and editing the Prologue and the first seven chapters, the 8th chapter of Beating Back the Darkness is now complete.

Chapter 8 is titled The Fallen City. It picks up where 7 leaves off, taking us into the ancient city of Karthusa for the first time. This is the longest chapter to date and is full of rich details and plenty of excitement!

The Fallen City will be released in its entirety on the Beating Back the Darkness blog once it is fully edited.

It is also the last fully free chapter that I will be releasing, as we will be moving forward with publishing BBtD in ebook format through BookieJar where it will be available chapter by chapter, as it is written.

Sincerely,

Tiger

Hello Everyone,

My name is Tiger Hebert, and among many other things, I am an aspiring writer. I have finally decided to tackle the formidable task of writing my first novel. Growing up I was a huge fan of works like The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and much of the Dragon Lance Chronicles. So it is only natural that my first foray in the the novel world plunges me into the depths of an epic fantasy novel.

My first novel, Beating Back the Darkness is already underway and some of the early chapters of the book can be read here! Beating Back the Darkness is an action packed adventure from start to finish, and is expected to be the first in a series of multiple books.

The reason I have created this site, is to have a centralized location for other work that is not directly related to the contents of Beating Back the Darkness.

So stick around, and by all means feel free to ask questions and get to know me.

Sincerely,
Tiger Hebert
