The 20th Anniversary Don & Connie Watson Charity Golf Tournament will be held at Sandy Burr Country Club, in Wayland, MA. Sandy Burr is one of New England ’s top-rated public golf courses. With your help, we can raise a record charitable donation, plus provide you with a fun-filled day of terrific golf, delicious food, and exciting gifts and raffle prizes.

Expect to be wowed! The event is simply not to be missed! Take a well-needed day off for great food, fun and fellowship, and help deserving children and charities in the process. We look forward to seeing you there!

Last year’s tournament raised over $90,000! 100% of which was donated to children’s organizations. Some include the Children’s Hospital Blood Donor Center and Crossroads for Kids. The LPM Charitable Foundation does not keep one cent for tournament meals or administrative expenses.

This event has become so popular that every year we are forced to turn away many who want to play. Since we are unable to include all of those who ask to play, we have instituted a policy that sponsors will take priority. Once we have included all the sponsors who wish to play, we will attempt to fit in additional players on a first registered, first to play policy.

'It was like coming back to a different company' By Kay Phillip, Executive Assistant Before returning to BCBSRI two years ago, having been away for about 15 years, I thought of "diversity in the workplace" as something for select groups of people. Honestly, I wasn't sure what I thought diversity in the workplace meant. I didn't think about diversity as being inclusive, as something that pertained to all associates.

I am Third Order Franciscan, and as such, I wear a Tau Cross with a Corpus. I thought that I wouldn't be able to wear my Tau Cross when I returned to BCBSRI. (It wouldn't have been an easy thing to do 15 years ago.) To my delightful surprise, however, my new boss Jack Emerson told me that of course I may wear my Tau Cross. Jack told me that this is a company that embraces diversity. That's when I started seeing diversity in a whole new way. To me, "diversity in the workplace"; now meant change, difference, variation, dissimilarity—and it definitely includes all associates. That was truly a WOW! moment for me.

During my first week as a new hire, I met Brooke Havens at a Wellness Clinic. She was seeking applicants for BlueAngel Representatives. I applied right away. As a BlueAngel Rep and volunteer, I witnessed over and over BCBSRI not only embracing the differences of its associates, but encouraging associates to use all of their talents and differences to help one another and to assist our customers in every way possible. In my view, this is one of the greatest places to work: Wellness Clinics; eight hours paid time for volunteering; a wonderful Café that serves healthy, good food and also uses and sells fresh food from local vendors; vendor days that help our local vendors, Employees' Scholarship Foundation . . . I could go on and on.

All of these things are here because our company encourages differing views, welcomes suggestions, and takes action when a beneficial program is presented. When I heard about the Diversity Business Council, I just had to join so I could help spread the diversity message throughout BCBSRI and into the community. I'm new in this mission, but we have some veterans who have been serving in many ways for years. I'm very proud to work for a company that embraces our differences. I see, as we all do, an incredible amount of talent in this company; and embracing diversity creates a safe and welcoming working environment. This, in turn, leads to associates "being not afraid" (a quote Bill Wray often uses) to share their talents, ideas, and suggestions. As someone who was away for 15 years, it was like coming back to a different company, and yet, the best of the old ways are still here, too. That's what's so rewarding about being part of a diverse organization!

What does diversity mean to you? April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a new national observance to help increase understanding of the cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences of people everywhere. The month's main goal is to open dialogues that foster an appreciation of the differences that separate us, as well as the similarities that unite us. That's why we're asking you to share your thoughts on the following: What does diversity and inclusion mean to you? How does embracing diversity and inclusion benefit our company? Please send your responses and we'll publish them on InsideBlue throughout April in honor of Celebrate Diversity Month.

The 19th Annual Don & Connie Watson Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the LPM Charitable Foundation and organizations such as Boston Children's Hospital Blood Center, and Crossroads for Kids, held at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland, MA was a great success. Congratulations to the Epicurean Feast Staff for a great first year!

April marked the One Year Anniversary at Don’s Place, the café at CTDI in PA. We celebrated the event with CTDI by offering a sampling of favorites from each station capped off with Carved Tenderloin at the Entrée Station. Our team at CTDI, Peter Pray, Chef Manager; Angela Jamison, Cashier; and Edith Miller, Grill/Deli Cook did a great job in preparing and presenting the “Taste of Don’s Place Favorites”.

Gerald Parsons, Chairman and CEO of CTDI and Leo Parsons, President and COO addressed the associates before “cutting” the celebration cake. Don’s Place is a gathering place for CTDI associates and we are pleased to provide our services in this upscale café. Paul Rennie and Steve Miller were also on hand for the event. Based on the turnout and feedback received – it was a big success!

Veggie Van Runs on Biofuel

As part of its multi-faceted response to global warming and to protect our environment, Epicurean Feast client EMD Serono has retrofitted a van to run on biodiesel fuel. This van, dubbed the Veggie Van and painted a vibrant green, travels the streets to promote biodiesel fuel and other renewable energies.

The Veggie Van actually runs on vegetable oil. The oil is collected from the café and is then converted into fuel. This fuel produces only about 20 percent of the pollutants of a normal diesel engine.
The Veggie Van provides educational outreach to children and people of all ages. Visitors step inside a mobile classroom where they can watch DVDs on global warming and pollution and find out about what alternative fuels can do for them, the environment and their pocketbooks. Epicurean Feast is working on a new initiative to have all of our used frying oil uitlized to create low polluting fuels.

Epicurean in the Community - Reach Out for Schools Road Race & Walk

Epicurean Feast is a proud to donate food for the 2010 Reach Out For Schools Road Race and Walk!

Reach Out For Schools is a non-profit, membership organization that raises money to support primary and secondary schools in the communities in which our members reside. All funds raised will benefit our Adopt-A-Classroom program, providing financial and moral support for teachers and students.
Race day festivities include a free Kids Fun Run (ages 12 and under), a certified 5K road race and walk, refreshments, music, and award ceremony.
