Screenwise, the Sydney Film & TV Acting School that trained Isabel Lucas, Todd Lasance and BAFTA nominee Chris Hemsworth, is now auditioning for the July 2012 intake of its Showreel Acting Course. During the four ten week terms, students on this part-time course will cover all facets of film and television drama, comedy, presenting, auditions, characterisation, american dialect, screen script analysis, voice and theatre presentation.

Unlike other showreel courses on offer, this course not only provides a top professional showreel, shot on location by professional directors, which is then passed on to the major Casting Agencies on completion - the tuition and support provided by the school and its current industry working professional actors, directors and casting consultants for the duration of the course is second to none. Thanks to these rare networking opportunities a few Screenwise students have won roles in television dramas like Rescue, Crownies, Packed To The Rafters and countless TV Commercials while still studying at Screenwise.

The twelve month Showreel Acting Course has two intakes each year in July and January. Costs for this very popular program which runs two acting classes per week over four terms include all tuition, showreel shoot and post production costs.

Screenwise is designed to suit students wishing to participate in long term acting courses(such as the government accredited Diploma of Screen Acting), and short courses (such as Screenteens, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced). Screenwise students gain more immediate access to award winning Actors, Directors and Casting Consultants who teach at the Sydney film & TV acting school.

In July Screenwise will welcome a brand new set of students to its Showreel Course, which was created to provide intense short term training in the unique acting skills and techniques required to meet the demands of today’s Film and TV industry.

The increased popularity in courses at Screenwise is clearly derived from the current industry sphere; the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) statistics show that 85% of an actor’s career-long income will be derived from television. As there is little work available in the Australian Theatre industry, for most actors the medium of screen will be their bread and butter. The rise in quality Australian television productions, such as The Slap and the Underbelly Series, is making it easier for new actors to be recognised nationally and internationally and opens up a larger number of doors into the industry.

In industry related news, past Screenwise students Todd Lasance and Chris Hemsworth continue to make waves in the TV and Film industries. Aside from Hemsworth’s highly anticipated role as The Huntsman, opposite Twilight star Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman, he has been nominated for a BAFTA award in 2012, while Todd Lasance recently fulfilled a request to present an award at the 2012 inaugural AACTA awards and is currently playing Julius Caesar in Spartacus.

A weekend of over 70 Jubilee tea parties will be held across the country where the loveable duo’s new mini animation will be shown for the first time ever at Trust places. The funny flick has been specially created for the festivities as part of the National Trust Summer of Celebration campaign and shows the pair preparing for the big weekend, by scaling the ladders to hoist the bunting up around a magnificent Trust manor.

The green grass carpet will be rolled out for the mini animation (titled ‘A Jubilee Bunt-a-thon’) and a behind-the-scenes documentary, which are to be exclusively screened at the Trust’s Jubilee parties. Their films have already been met with the royal seal of approval from Camilla declaring that Wallace and Gromit are Prince Charles’ “favourite people in the world”.

The one-minute animation begins in the familiar setting of 62 West Wallaby Street with the ever faithful and long suffering Gromit sitting at his sewing machine making miles of bunting to adorn National Trust places across the country.

Tony Berry, Visitor Experience Director of the National Trust, commented: “The National Trust and Wallace and Gromit are two of Britain’s greatest treasures and we felt it fitting that in this summer of celebration we should bring them together. We are holding our very own premiere of Wallace & Gromit’s Jubilee Bunt-a thon at our properties, it was made exclusively for the National Trust and we are really excited that it will encourage the nation to join us for an extra special Diamond Jubilee celebration.”

Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit, commented: “I have to pinch myself when I think how far Wallace and Gromit have come; from ideas in my head, to ‘film stars’ working with great organisations such as the National Trust, which the nation holds dear to its heart. Hess discusses the approach of most guitarists: “It is common for guitar players to struggle with creative lead guitar playing due to a basic misunderstanding of various musical concepts. Fact is, guitar players like to show-off their guitar technique skills and look for any opportunity to do this in their solos. There is nothing wrong with this, however, the guitarist ends up focusing too much on technique and not enough on getting everything out of each note they play.”

Many guitar players search online to find lead guitar or guitar solo instructional products. Hess takes issue with the instructional methods of these products: “Nearly all guitar instructors teach lead guitar in the same way. They will essentially throw a bunch of techniques, licks, or riffs at the guitar player, and assume that the player will be able to use them in some way. This approach to teaching lead guitar is totally wrong.” He continues: “If you are a guitar player who is struggling to create great solos or nice lead melodies, the last thing you need is just a bunch of licks thrown at you. Guitarists in this situation must learn how to combine their technical skills together with a great understanding of melody.”

In Hess’s resource he discusses an alternate approach to guitar soloing: “Like most guitarists, I have improved my own lead guitar abilities by listening to my favorite guitarists and learning from them. However, I have also made massive progress in my own guitar playing by emulating the vocal style of my favorite singers. This has helped my guitar melodies immensely, and this is the approach I take when showing other guitarists how to make highly melodic guitar solos.”

He continues: “For example, think about how a regular guitar solo sounds when compared to a singer’s lines during the chorus of a song. For the singer, there is much more focus on using fewer notes to make a great melody, while the guitarist generally plays more notes (using a more technical style). That said, most guitar players’ solos (when compared to a singer’s vocal lines) lack a sense of melody. Unlike guitar players, singers must make every note count because each note they sing is a word in the song. This is the reason why it is so beneficial to learn guitar soloing with a singer. Singers are masters of melody and can teach you how to create awesome guitar solos without even knowing a single guitar technique. By learning this way, you get the best of both worlds as you start playing better melodies while still using guitar-related techniques.”

Mana Contemporary¹s resident artist Carole Feuerman will be exhibiting this summer with NYC Parks and Recreation. Her monumental work, “Survival of Serena”, will be showcased for the first time in hyper-realistically painted bronze, courtesy of Jim Kempner Fine Art.

The sculpture will be on view to the public May 21st through September 23rd in Petrosino Square, SoHo in the triangular median near Spring Street and along Lafayette. Carole A. Feuerman was born in Hartford Connecticut but has lived and worked in New York her entire life. Known for her hyperrealistic sculptures of swimmers and bathers, Feuerman’s prolific career spans four decades and across a variety of media including bronze, resin and marble. “Survival of Serena” is the first of a series of new monumental painted bronze sculptures by the artist.

“Survival of Serena” first debuted in painted resin at the 2007 Venice Biennale and was named in honor of the traditional name of Venice, La Serenissima, which literally means ‘the most/very serene¹, a theme which transverses much of the artist¹s body of work. The sculpture went on to win first prize in the Beijing Biennale the following year. In her art, Feuerman strives to find the common thread that unites us as people, one and the same. With the culturally dynamic location of the park, Feuerman sees Petrosino Square as the perfect location to unveil her new bronze sculpture for the first time.

Here, one can find recluse from the trafficked streets and sidewalks of New York City. Feuerman works to achieve a similar effect in her sculpture by capturing peaceful moments that are universally appealing. In the midst of the fast-paced city streets, she wants to offer the public the opportunity to pause, even just for a moment, engaged and inspired by what stands before them. Her sculptures exceed the bounds of mere mimicry to become larger than life symbols that invite us to consider our physicality and our own stories. Feuerman strives to find the common thread that unites us as people, one and the same.

Organised by Rachel Bowen, Kathleen Stockhill and Maureen Watson from the neighbouring village of North Stainley, over 120 people were in attendance as the ladies modelled the new spring collections currently available in the shopping village, from great brands such as Klass, Roman Originals, Alexara, Tigi and Just Elegance to accessories by Mint Jewellery and bags by Stone and Ridgeway Leather. With the fashion being divided into four distinct collections, from ‘Weekend Wear’ and ‘Ladies who Lunch’, to ‘A day at the Races’ and ‘Cruise and Evening Wear’, the audience were given plenty of fresh ideas for the season ahead and enjoyed an afternoon of sophistication and glamour.

Lightwater Country Shopping Village agreed to donate all proceeds from both the entrance and refreshments sold at the event and Rachel, Kath and Maureen organised a raffle, bringing the combined total raised to over £500 for Saint Michael’s Hospice.

“We’re so grateful to these brave ladies for volunteering to take part in this fashion show – it takes a lot of guts to get up there and strut your stuff and they all did it so well.
