Now with 36 qualifiers, the EquestrianClearance.com BE80(T) series is proving more popular than ever with all sections in 2011 well filled and providing excellent competition.

The series also incorporates the British Riding Clubs (BRC) series, with the final’s held at Brooksby Melton College Horse Trials on September 22 and 23.

EquestrianClearance.com Marketing Manager Katie Farmer said: “We are very pleased to be sponsoring the BE80(T) series throughout 2012. It is an excellent competition for grass roots riders who are developing their skills and competition experience.

“At EquestrianClearance.com we are keen to support riders at all levels, but many of our customers ride and compete at Riding Club level and the sponsorship provides the ideal opportunity to give something back to them.”

British Eventing Commercial and Marketing Director Mike Barnes added: “Thanks to the backing of EquestrianClearance.com the series continues to grow and we are delighted to be moving in to a very exciting year with new qualifiers and venues.”

The BE80(T) classes are specifically aimed at introducing people to the sport and encouraging inexperienced horses and riders, building confidence in all areas. As the class name suggests the height of the fences are 80cm and the ‘T’ denotes that it is a training class; as part of the competition, BE Accredited coaches are there to help riders through each phase of the competition. All courses are designed to be inviting and encouraging for both horse and rider.

PIPPA Funnell and Billy Balou triumphed in the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers at Horse of the Year Show to give the well known event rider her first ever win at the prestigious show.

From 23 starters, seven made it through to the jump-off with Pippa drawn first on the talented bay gelding owned by Carol Toliver.

With a determined ride, Pippa cut every corner to perfection to cross the finish line in 43.61 seconds on the six-year-old Billy Balou. Paving the way, Pippa stopped the clock nearly three seconds ahead of her nearest rival, Lola Wade and Zorro, owned by David Jackson.

A former rosette girl at the Horse of the Year Show for many years, Pippa couldn’t believe she was now receiving a winning one: “All those years ago when I worked at HOYS handing out rosettes I never thought I would be receiving a winner’s one,” said Pippa.

After a hectic autumn on the eventing circuit Pippa added: “I amost got William to ride Billy Balou here as I have been so busy eventing and haven’t had a chance to get him indoors.”

The prestigious EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship saw Harriet Nuttall and her father’s A Touch of Imperious taking third place on the seven-year-old chestnut gelding.

With just three going clear in the second round, the Pavitt sisters Nicole and Louise, well known for their speed against the clock put in fast rounds on Festiena van Texelhof and Lupicos however poles fell leaving them in fourth and sixth places respectively while Steven Franks and Pacome du Bois Mesnil took fifth.

With more than 60 entries for the finals, held as part of the BE80(T) British Riding Club Eventing Championships, it was decided that two sections would be run at this popular event.

In Section K Michelle rode her 16-year-old chestnut gelding, Chester XII to a narrow win, her nearest rival being Kathryn Leonard and Hidden Diamond.

Based in Bretforton, Worcestershire, Michelle shares the ride on Chester with her mum Pauline, who assists with the fitness work.

Michelle said of her win; “It is brilliant to win one of the EquestrianClearance.com championship sections.

“I am delighted with our performance today, show jumping is our weakest link but we went clear today and finished on our dressage score of 22.”

Michelle, a busy vet, is a member of Solihull Riding Club, and only manages to find time to ride twice a week but she was full of praise for the BE80(T) series.

“It is great to have a championship final and the day has been brilliant,” she added.

Heading the EquestrianClearance.com Championship Section L was 16-year-old Kate Mould and Orion Heights, a five-year-old that has been with the Bristol-based rider for a year.

Kate Mould & Orion Heights

Kate also finished on her dressage mark of 27, managing to keep hold of her lead by just 0.5 penalties, with second place going to Bridget Ratc

Kate said: “We nearly didn’t come as I have had ‘flu but thankfully our decision to make the three hour trip was the right one and I couldn’t be more pleased.liff and Tilly.

“This is my first year of affiliated eventing, and the BE80(T) courses and facilities have been great.

“I would encourage anyone thinking of eventing to have a go, there is great support and having access to BE accredited trainers makes a huge difference.”

The Equestrian Clearance BE80(T) series now continues at Norton Disney in Lincolnshire (23 Oct).

More about BE80(T)

The classes were created by British Eventing to introduce people to the sport and encouraging inexperienced horses and riders, building confidence in all areas. As the class name suggests the height of the fences are 80cm and the ‘T’ denotes that it is a training class; as part of the competition, BE Accredited coaches are there to help riders through each phase of the competition. All courses are designed to be inviting and encouraging for both horse and rider.

With tough competition in both sections, it was the more experienced horses that took the honours, showing they still have what it takes.

The first section saw Daventry based Yvonne Jackson and her 20-year-old gelding Chester take the honours.

Completing the dressage phase on a score of 32.0 penalties, it was not the highest score of day, however, after putting in two foot perfect rounds in the showjumping and cross-country phases the pair moved to the top of the leader board.

In the final section, Wiltshire based Carol Lovelock and her 13-year-old gelding Ricardo went straight in at the top after an excellent dressage performance.

With just a 0.5 penalty lead, the pressure was on, but in great form Carol and Ricardo completed the show jumping and cross-country with a double clear, holding on to their dressage score and their win.

The Scope Festival of Showjumping in Staffordshire was the venue of the very competitive EquestrianClearance.com sponsored British Showjumping Senior Newcomers Masters on Monday.

In order to be competing at this prestigious event, horse and rider combinations must have jumped four double clear rounds (meaning gaining no faults in the first round or in the jump off) in the first round classes. This qualifies them for the second round competitions, in which they must finish in the top five to obtain a qualifying ticket for the ever popular Scope Showjumping Festival.

The event held at the Stafford County Showground was the last chance for combinations to qualify for a spot in the much sought after EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), to be held in October at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Birmingham.

Thirteen successful combinations jumped clear in the first round and progressed through to the jump off of the EquestrianClearance.com Newcomers Masters.

Taking the win was twenty-four-year-old Danielle Jolliffe, a PE teacher based in Manchester, who rode her own seven-year-old stallion Explosief van de Heffinck to a clear round in the jump off in an unbeatable time of 33.79 seconds.

However, as Danielle had already qualified for the Final Championship at HOYS, the first qualifying ticket was passed down to Nigel Coupe who finished in second place with a very respectable jump off time of 36.36 seconds. First to go in the jump off, Nigel, riding Susan Simmons’ eight-year-old bay gelding Golvers Hill, had managed to hold onto the lead right up until second to last to go Danielle.

In third place and taking the second ticket to HOYS was Somerset-based rider Harriet Nuttall, riding her father Rupert Nuttall’s gelding A Touch Imperious. Harriet and the seven-year-old jumped clear through both rounds and finished the jump off in 37.17 seconds, less than a second behind Nigel Coupe.

Further clear rounds were achieved in the jump off by fourth-placed Sharon Quigley, riding A Adernie, Daniel Baker riding Frits II finished in fifth place, and Ross Hill riding W Tonix Hero, who achieved in sixth place.

The team at leading online retailer EquestrianClearance.com is very excited to be sponsoring this important stepping stone for riders and horses moving up the ranks, and look forward to seeing riders compete in what is sure to be an exciting final at Horse of the Year Show.
