Let me take you on a little tour of the locations that inspired Breeze and Sebastian to get down and dirty…..

The Sharlton Club  Founded in the mid 1800s, is based on one of the oldest gentlemen’s clubs in London. Earls, Viscounts and Prime Ministers are listed among its exclusive membership which is by nomination and election only. In such an upper class set up my heroine, Breeze delights in taking the tone down a notch or two as she writhes in a not very ladylike way on one of the oh so highly polished tables. It’s almost impossible for us mere mortals to break in to such bastions of elite society. But yours truly snuck in uninvited on the coattails of an obliging friend working at the club as a waitress! With my notebook and pen I risked the indignity of being chucked out onto the streets of St James’s in order that I could bring you, dear reader, a great story.

The Ritz How I luuuurve The Ritz where Sebastian books dinner and a suite afterwards for him and Breeze to engage in some serious foreplay. Up the road from Piccadilly and the Strand it oozes old world gentility. Even the restrooms have gilt ormolu armchairs and carpets an inch thick. I’m going to celebrate publication day there with a tiny glass of something fizzy when The Thousand and One Nights goes into print. Yay!

Victoria Station A busy London train station where if you’re lucky you can catch the sight of foreign dignitaries alighting to travel up to Buckingham Palace. Many moons ago Emperor Hirohito and our own dear Queen did the journey in an open topped coach. My delectably handsome hero, Sebastian uses the half hour journey from Victoria to Brighton, that playground by the sea, to get up to some energetic voyeuristic sex – it beats doing a crossword or staring out of the window!

Brighton Pier I love, love, love Brighton Pier. Like my heroine herself, it’s sassy, fun, bright and breezy, a folly dedicated to entertainment. The whole idea of building a platform into the ocean, which goes nowhere and is for all practical purposes useless – which doesn’t dock boats or land planes and is designed solely for the pursuit of joy is just such a crazy idea, it sums up Brighton perfectly. It’s also a sort of metaphor for what Breeze is to Sebastian – he’s a bored millionaire who wants her just for fun until he realises he’s stumbled upon someone really special. A dirty weekend in Brighton by the sea is a must after a week’s work in London. I was strolling with my lovely hubby on the funfair at the end of the pier when people started screaming. I looked up at the most massive terrifying fairground ride which throws people up in the air over the sea and my imagination ran wild. So did my heroine’s when she was thinking of inventive ways to please Sebastian Dark and save her skin.

During the second week of my two week blog tour to promote my new book, ‘Alice in Fetishland’ I’m discussing some of the diverse themes related to the book.

I want to use my blog today to discuss the place of watersports in erotic writing.  Now, I’m conscious all publishers I’ve come across have this as a taboo subject.  I also understand that often this is as much down to the distributors as the publishers and, well, if nobody’s going to distribute your book you’re a bit scuppered.   I enjoy writing watersports scenes!  They can be fun, dirty or intense, however you want to play them.  But I’ve always ended up having to cut them out of my stories, as I did from my original draft of ‘Adventures in Fetishland’, which had a couple of them in.

I should stress I’m not intending any criticism of my publisher  here – I don’t have a problem with making changes and I’m happy to work with a publisher’s concerns to get my writing published and out there.  But, it’s just something I wanted to comment on.  Adventures in Fetishland has scenes of corporal punishment, nipple torture, cock and ball torture, electrical play, medical play, use of sounds, strap-on-play, cling film mummification, breath play and an attempted anal rape scene.  So, you can see, it isn’t exactly for the faint hearted!  But, one of the scenes I had to edit was a comic one involving Kim, the main character, pissing in a tea pot!  I just have trouble grappling with how all that other extreme stuff was acceptable but a funny scene at a fetish hatter’s tea party involving pee had to be axed.

I also feel both publishers and readers are missing a treat here as there is such a lot of potential in the subject.  There is loads of dramatic tension in watersports – they get right to the heart of the psychological relationship between a dominant and submissive.  They can be both a humiliation or a reward depending on the context and how they are delivered and described and provide great opportunities for erotic writing

So, as a special treat (if you can call it that!) the story extract I’m using today is the unexpurgated scene from the Fetish Hatter’s tea party, which I had to edit and which appears in the book with all references to piss, wee or golden wine mysteriously replaced by the Hatter’s “special blend of tea”!

Oh dear, thought Kim, this tea party could be very weird.  She cast her eye across the table; it was certainly a wonderful spread.  There were two huge round tea pots and places set with china cups and saucers and plates.  The centrepiece was a large multi-tiered black cast iron cake stand that was filled with a delicious assortment of cup cakes.  They were iced in shades of pastel green, yellow and pink and decorated with cherries or walnuts. There was bread, butter and jam, home-baked scones and jellies and trifles.  I’ve not seen party food like this since I was a child, she thought.  Kim was ravenous and thirsty, just ready for afternoon tea.

“Pour yourself a cup of tea,” offered the Hatter.

Kim picked up the big round yellow tea pot and was about to pour a cup when the hare and dormouse intervened.

“No, No, my dear, you don’t want to drink from that tea pot,” shouted the hare.

“No, no,” muttered the dormouse, “definitely not that tea pot.”

“Why, what’s wrong with this tea pot?”

“The orange tea pot is for the tea,” said the hare.

“And the yellow tea pot is for the wee,” said the dormouse.

Kim looked surprised, “I’m sorry I don’t understand, do you really mean there’s wee in that tea pot?” she asked cautiously, dreading the answer.

The Hatter replied, “Why of course, that tea pot’s for them.”

She pointed to two of what Kim presumed were Mistress Nemesis’s male slaves.  Kim hadn’t noticed them yet. One had a leather hood on his head, the other an iron cage.  They were both sat behind her forlornly.  Waiting to be fed perhaps, thought Kim?

“They are probably thirsty,” said the Hatter, “would you mind doing the honours, girl?”

“Why, yes, I suppose not.”

Kim picked up the huge round yellow tea pot with both hands and walked over to the two men.

“Should I pour them out a cup?” she asked.

“No, no, they can drink straight from the spout,” the Hatter said.

“Yes, direct from the spout,” echoed the hare.

“Oh, definitely from the spout,” confirmed the dormouse.

The hooded slave lifted his head up and positioned it so that Kim, holding the tea pot high over him, could tip the spout up and pour its contents straight into his mouth.  She did just that and a stream of yellow fluid came flooding out of the spout.  Oh my god, it really is pee, thought Kim.  It was a clear golden colour but it did not smell too much so it must have been quite fresh.  Kim wondered if it was the Hatter’s.  Most of the piss poured straight into the slave’s mouth and he guzzled it down eagerly, but some splashed onto his body and quite a bit spilt onto the floor.  The tea pot was soon empty.

“He can’t waste any,” called the Hatter, “make him drink what he’s spilt off the floor.”

“Go on, drink it,” said Kim tentatively at first and then more firmly, “come on drink it up.”

“That’s no good,” said the Hatter, “he’s got to obey you.  Kick him in the balls.”

Kim did exactly that with the shiny leather shoes.  The hooded man howled in pain but soon got his head down onto the floor and started lapping the golden waters up.

“Give the rest to the other one,” ordered the Hatter.

“I’m sorry but the tea pot is empty now.”

“Well, there’s nothing for it, you’ll just have to fill it yourself.”

“Sorry, you mean you want me to pee in the tea pot?”

“Well yes, of course,” the Hatter said.

“Yes, you heard the Hatter. You must piss in the tea pot,” added the hare.

“Yes, piss in the tea pot,” said the dormouse.

It was true, that Kim was desperate to go.  She hadn’t been to the toilet since she had left the massage parlour and that was hours ago. Oh well, she thought, I need to go.  She put the yellow tea pot on the floor, took the lid off, crouched over it, hitched up her latex dress and let release a stream of hot piss into the tea pot.  God, I needed that. It was quite a relief to empty her bladder.

“Now bring the tea pot back here, put it on the table and let it brew for a bit,” said the Hatter.

First I want to thank Lucy for hosting me today. It’s a joy and pleasure to be here, and I’d just like to say what a terrific site! This is the first stop on my tour and what a great place to begin. I look forward to hanging out today and chatting it up with the readers and fans via comments.

In case you’ve not guessed yet, I do write it naughty and although my work doesn’t fit neatly into the outlined definition of pure erotica, it most certainly contains very erotic elements. In fact, I do believe Assumed Master, Book Four Identity Series, covers every base possible. It wasn’t planned that way, it just happened. I don’t purposely plant sex scenes to enhance the work, somehow they just fall into place naturally and help drive my story to…completion? Let me give a brief rundown of all the bases, as it were…Assumed Master entails BDSM, ménage, m/m, m/f, and hints at what’s coming in Book Five, Assumed Calling—fantasy and role playing. Whew! I think I got it all. And, as I said, none of this was contrived, it just seemed to find its way in at the appropriate times and places. So, just who is it in these books that’s living on the edge?

Julie Marie Hayden Chelsea Stevens-Seidler. That’s who. I know right? Her name’s a mouthful and a source of contention believe me. J Julie made her first appearance in Book Three, Assumed Identity, a very confused young woman who knew she needed more from life, specifically in the sex department, but had no idea what that thing was until she meets Master Mason. The man that takes her to the edge and back. She is the character that drove me to research edge play and although these practices are far beyond what I’d ever try, they fascinate me. (I have a degree in sociology, lots of sub-cultures fascinate me.) Her story continues in my current release, Assumed Master, as she finds herself left in the care of her bi-sexual friend Dante who’s married to her gay best friend. Confused yet? She is, too…

So, what is edge play? According to The Online Dictionary (who knew you’d find it there!) edge play is defined as: a subjective term for types of sexual play that are considered to be pushing on the edge of the traditional safe, sane and consensual creed.

A subjective term, meaning its open to interpretation and perception. One man’s fear is another man’s kink type thing. As a result of this subjectivity, it’s really hard to nail down where the line actually lies. However, after some amount of research, which I’ll get to because Lucy was also curious as to the particulars of mine, I decided where Julie’s line in the sand was. For her, edge play involved forced (though consensual) fantasies. In other words, Mason would catch her unexpectedly and scare the hell out of her and this turned her on immensely. Scare her how? A stranger in the house late at night, the lights go out, he catches her…you can see where this is going I’m sure. Julie is an adrenaline junky and it takes quite a bit to get her going. For her it was the guided fear, but players in the real world consider things such as fire play and blood play to be past the line of sanity and therefore edgy. Personally, I agree with that assessment. Fire play is a dangerous sport and not to be taken lightly or practiced by anyone unseasoned or untrained. The same for blood play. Where does my personal line in the sand lie? I’d have to say extreme pain. Ever seen a whipping? Whew, scary stuff! I don’t believe I have the fortitude for it that’s for certain.

Are you getting any ideas about the particulars of my research by this point? J Assumptions, assumptions. Although there’s an unwritten rule you never reveal your sources for a variety of reason, I can say this much. I have a few very good friends who are card carrying members of this nation. Personal interviews and observation goes a long way. My curiosity was piqued some eighteen months ago when I was penning Book One in this series, Identity Crisis, and through my friends I met a few more people and yes, I’ve seen everything I choose to write about. I’ve held the instruments my characters use. If I didn’t I wouldn’t write it. Knowing how something feels in your hands is eye-opening and gives you some idea as to how to describe its power. Cat-o-nine feels much different in your palm than a small leather flogger. Different crops carry different weight depending on length and width of the head. Paddles come in all shapes and sizes. Rope feels much different along one’s skin than say fur lined leather. And there are a variety of ropes available. It’s too crucial to get the lifestyle correct. Not only for the sake of the reader but for the integrity of my friends. Too often this life is displayed in a bad light and facts are wrong along with the added danger of someone actually trying something they read. So even when I portrayed the edge, I always did my best to maintain the rules of safe, sane and consensual. I do write realmantica after all…Keeping it real, romantic, and erotic.
