For any product in the product catalog you have to define the default unit in which the product is usually sold. In more than 90% of all cases I guess the default unit is used for opportunities, quotes or salesorder. So quite often there is the requirement, that the unit should be populated with the products default unit after the product is chosen.
Now the approach is quite straight forward: attach to the productid fields onChange event, get the default unit from the product and populate the uomid field.
While in CRM 4.0 you could set the field directly in the onChange event, this approach does no longer work for CRM2011. It seems, Microsoft changed the behaviour here, so that first your custom code is executed and afterwards the uom field (and the amount) is cleared.
What you have to do is adding a slight delay to the event, so that your code is executed after the built-in onChange handler of the product. We found 100ms to be good value, since it’s enough for the built-in logic to execute, but small enough that the user won’t notice a delay.

CRM 2011 Outlook Configuration error: The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed

I ran across an usual error while configuring CRM 2011 for outlook on a computer not running on
the same domain as the CRM server. The configuration wizard just wouldn't connect to the
deployment. The client config logs (
located at %localappdata%\Microsoft\MSCRM\Logs\Crm50ClientConfig.txt)
showed the below error message:

Exception: System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityNegotiationException: The caller was not authenticated by the service.

The error shows that the client is unable to connect to the discrovery service eventhough i was able to connect
to the service when trying to access it through Internet explorer on the same machine!

After spending a couple of hours troubleshooting and trying various scenarios on the client machine i
started digging up a bit on the server side i found out that the CRMappPool and the
CrmDeploymentServiceAppPool were running in the context of the administrator of the domain.

I was able to configure outlook to connect successfully to the deployment by configuring both application
pools to run under the "LocalSystem" identity as shown in the screenshot below.

CRM 2011 Client Diagnostics Tool for On Premise

Previously only available for CRM Online, the CRM Diagnostics tool is now released with CRM 2011 Update Rollup 4 for On Premise installations.

It runs a couple of tests, measuring latency to the datacenter, bandwidth, and performs a few Java script performance tests to measure the CPU/browser performance of the machine.

General details about Update Rollup 17

Update Rollup 17 is cumulative. However, the Update Rollup 17 CRM Client and Data Migration Client packages require Update Rollup 7 to be installed. For all other CRM components, you do not need to install any previous Update Rollups prior to Update Rollup 17.

The Update Rollup 17 download contains updates for the 40 supported Language Packs. Prior to installing the Update Rollup 17 Language Pack, you must install the original Language Pack.

If you have Language Packs installed, you should

1. Download the Update Rollup 17 Language Pack
2. Install the Update Rollup 17 Language Pack
3. De-provision the Language Pack
4. Re-provision the Language Pack

A form does not respect the number of rows setting for IFrame that is in the header or the footer.
You cannot set field visibility to "true" through the Client API when the Visible by Defaultfield is not selected.
If a web resource does not span the whole section width, when you make the web resource invisible through Client API, the web resource is displayed unexpectedly on the entity record form.
When you tab out of a lookup in a form, the focus is not moved to the next field in the form.
A multiline field that is invisible occupies the space.

Update Rollup 16 is cumulative. However, the Update Rollup 16 CRM Client and Data Migration Client packages require Update Rollup 7 to be installed. For all other CRM components, you do not need to install any previous Update Rollups prior to Update Rollup 16.

Microsoft quietly released an updated to the on-premise CRM 2011 Server RC1. The original RC1 release build was 5.00.9688.34. The new update brings the build to 5.00.9688.53. Note if you have Windows Update and Microsoft Update properly configured you may ahve already gotten these updates.
