It seems that Amendment 1 isn’t enough for some people in North Carolina. They aren’t willing to simply live with denying gays and lesbians any official recognition of their relationship.

During a sermon in response to the President’s announcement that he supports same sex marriage, Pastor Charles L. Morely said that he wants to kill off gays and lesbians.

According to the Huffington Post, among other things, the Pastor said the following:

“Build a great, big, large fence — 150 or 100 mile long — put all the lesbians in there,”

And here’s the really compassionate part of his “sermon”:

Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out…and you know what, in a few years, they’ll die out…do you know why? They can’t reproduce!

We, Afghanistan and Iraq veterans, from around the country will converge in Chicago on May 20th to march to the NATO summit and ceremoniously return our medals to NATO generals. They survived running toward death and danger, but some locally trained military dogs of war are not making it home.

Instead, they’re being euthanized.

Channel 2′s Scott MacFarlane learned of an obscure U.S. law that is making it tough for military dogs to be adopted after their service is over.

Army Sgt. David Varkett survived his tour of duty in Afghanistan, because his unit included Nooshka, a 5- year-old dog that sniffed out an improvised bomb before it exploded.

“This dog has saved my life and many others,” Varkett said. “She became a little local hero, finding those IEDs.”

The U.S. military is now breeding 100 puppies a year, raising them and then training them for the front lines.

In an era of roadside bomb warfare, the bomb-sniffing dogs are remarkably useful. McFarlane went to Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas, where Georgia military canine units are training. He said the training is exhausting and intense.

Sgt. Jarred Palmer of Georgia, a Ft. Benning soldier, and his unit’s Belgian Malinois, Zzazu, are inseparable.

“The dog lives with you, she’s your best friend. She’s your partner,” Palmer said.

But for all the work, the military puts into training the dogs, federal law ties the military’s hands in protecting the canines afterward.

“I won’t be able to graduate. I can walk, but I can’t graduate,” Sinclaire Coffers, a senior from Fulton County, Ga., told MyFoxAtlanta.

Coffer has good grades, but the problem is that he has not been able to pass the math exam required for every Georgia student to graduate high school.

“Once he starts it, and he learns it, he can do it. But when you walk away, he forgets the steps,” said his mother, Linda Coffer.

Coffer is autistic. The state allows for students with disabilities to apply for a waiver that allows the state board of education to vote on whether or not to throw out the exams, and allow a student to graduate. In Coffer’s case, the board denied a waiver for reasons his family has not yet been told.

One couple is proving time and time again how fuel efficiency has just as much to do with the person behind the wheel as the technology under the hood.

With just a full tank of gas, John and Helen Taylor of Australia was able to rack up a world record 1,626 miles, driving from Houston, Texas to Sterling, Virginia. After all was said and done, the trip took three days and traversed through nine states at an average rate of 84.1 miles per gallon, which translates to a cost of a mere 4.65 cents per mile. The previous record was 1526.6 miles, achieved with a VW Passat 1.6 BlueMotion(R) diesel in Europe.

The couple accomplished the feat using an unmodified 2012 4 cylinder, 2.0 liter Volkswagen Passat Clean Diesel with six speed manual transmission. On paper, the car has an official city driving fuel efficiency rating of 43 mpg.

“We’re excited to have broken the record for the longest distance driven on one-tank of fuel,” said John Taylor. “The Passat TDI was the perfect car for the trip. It offers plenty of interior and cargo space, yet is frugal enough to help us achieve this record.”
