That is because they are very strong, but are vulnerable against some kind of boards.
1) QQ. I love that hand, but sometimes i hate it. Preflop you must be agressive with QQ, and you can be willing to go all in before the flop, if comes to you a reraise. If you are in a tournament, you almost never could blame yourself for an all in preflop, so OK if your opponent open AA or hit a ace or king on board with him AK. But, with the finding of a very tight player, add to a deep stacks, in some kind of action of very strong hand demonstration, you can lay down your queens; on cash games, especialy, you must have that skill.
On preflop, pocket queens are much more valuable that before (the monsters are too, but the big pairs much more). Most of times the action is not limited to before the flop.
So if comes open to you, go with the pattern raise. If comes a raise, go with reraise. Resuming, preferentialy be the agressor preflop.
On flop, looking for to bet most of times, trying to put your opponent(s) in a range of hands. If you have overpair, almost always bet. If comes a ace or a king, i prefer to check and then controling the pot, but I go with call on turn against a possible bluff, and is very possible that i call the river too. AFTERALL, WATCH THE GAME AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE THE RIGHT DECISION.

2) JJ and TT. The arguments used to QQ are worth with jacks and tens, but the care must double up.
Preflop, like QQ, is very probably that you have the best hand, but DONT GO ALL IN TOO DEEP, LIKE >50BB. The judgement will be fundamental for the right decision, that is, how many times this player has reraised? And shove all in? How many chips has him? He is on tilt?
Once again on tournament you can play more easy these hands that on cash, because normaly the stacks are smallers.
Preflop and postflop, I consider that you can play them like queens, with some exceptions. First, if you feel some danger, like a action never saw or a raise from a very tight player, you dont have to reraise. On flop and/or turn you will get more information about how risk you are run. Second, on flop, JJ has one more danger card (Q) and TT has two (Q n' J). That means a lot, since the likehood of overpair is decreased.

Resuming, big pairs are strong hands, but they can't be played without one entire avaliation about patterns of opponents, stacks, position, image, etc.
In this short text I can't explain all about the subject, but keep in mind this: POKER IS A GAME OF OBSERVATION.

MTT - Episode 06

André Aakkari, Team Pro PS, comenting hands about a guy that played a MTT - buy-in USD 5,50.
First, the better hands.
Aces and kings are the hands that we want to receive. Is a true pleasure when they comes.
For simplify, be agressive with them. I almost never slowplay the monsters, unless that I have some reasons, like play against a maniac, or if I have a image very, very tight.
If comes open to you, raise 2 or 3 BB's. If there are limpers, raise 3 + 1 bb for each limper. If comes a raise, reraise 2,5x until 3x the value of his raise.
At flop, go with continuation bet whathever the flop, except by a pot control with check, if you have KK and at flop comes a Ace.
ALMOST NEVER LAY DOWN YOUR MONSTER. For to do that, you need to be pretty sure about your opponent's read. Its always important to watch the game, even the hands that you fold. My advice for you, begginer, is TO PLAY 1 TABLE.
Resuming, when you got a monster, you want be paid, so looking for a showdown, betting for protect your hand and for value, but controling some pots that you sense danger.

MTT - Episódio 3

If comes open to you, play with AT+, KJ+ and any pair. In late position, increase some suited hands that you feels comfortable with.
If you is reraised, or if comes to you with a lot of action, play with AK and TT+. Add 88+, AQ and maybe AJ if you got a read of your oponnent. Is important that you watch the action. If you aren't sure, just fold.
Do NOT try to bluff. Is too early for that. Play only for value, and by the way, you can play some speculative hands in position and for a low price, but make sure that u will fold if you dont hit the flop.
Be patience and enjoy the development of the touney.
MTT - Episódio 02

Continuação do vídeo do aakkari.

Odds Calculator

Para jogadores que levam o poker a sério, esta é uma ferramenta que aprimora muito o jogo, ajudando a entender as hierarquias das cartas fechadas: http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tools/odds-calculator/texas-holdem
