This show starts off with a quick discussion about the new teacher tips video blog that Matt has put together on DreamEnglish.com called the Teach Kids English Show.   They are short 3-4 minute videos packed full of tips for teachers that are teaching young learners.

Talking briefly about MES-English‘s 5th anniversary on the web, Matt brings in the show’s main topic, Dolch Sight Words.  We first go over briefly what sight words are for those that are unfamiliar and then discuss how Matt found them to be inspiring and exciting in some classes where phonics-only was failing.  For Matt’s class they really sped up reading and the learning process.

Mark has taken the original list and made a graded and short version for his ESL classes.  You can find those downloads and a more in-depth explanation of the lists on the MES Dolch Sight Words Resources page.

We also go over:

when to start using sight words

the importance of knowing the word before memorizing the spelling

using a book to create a list of sight words and then immediately applying knowledge to context to inspire your readers

5 different games and activities you can use in your classes to practice sight words

Thanks for listening!

Listen to the show.

This week we welcome Dave from http://www.learnenglish-online.com.  Dave is working at a language school and international high school in Canada.  Additionally he runs his own website for students to “learn English online.”  We’ll talk a bit about his website and also in general about website building/promotion later in the show.
In part one of the podcast, we focus on some of Dave’s students’ problems and how he handles them.  He has a good number of Japanese students and they have a strong knowledge of grammar but a very low speaking level.  Mark and Dave offer a few ideas on how to improve speaking competence and fluency with these learners.

breaking down the walls and barriers

stopping the calculating and perfect sentence building

reading to increase speaking competence

using music and acting

understanding errors are not necessarily mistakes

In the second part of the podcast we discuss Dave’s website.  It offers students listening exercises with videos and music, help with grammar, quizzes, and provides them with a lot of feedback.  The website is growing and the response has been positive for Dave.  Mark and Dave also discuss a bit about how Dave built up the site and any mistakes people might want to avoid in make their own site.  There are also some tips for promoting your ESL website or blog and getting more traffic.

Right at the end, we had some technical problems and I lost Dave, but Dave was kind enough to email me the Game of the Week section of the show that got cut off.

If you have any questions or comments about teaching students with advanced grammar but low speaking competence or if you have any questions about building and promoting your ESL site, please comment below or over at the ESL Teacher Talk forums.

We’d like to thank Dave for coming on to the show and encourage everyone to visit his site Learn English – Online.

Game of the Week: Speedy Subject Verb Agreement

This game is used to practice subject verb agreement in conversation.  It is also designed to improve fluency and speed when speaking.

* Put the students in partners
* Write these categories on the board:

1. Do/Does
2. Is/Are/Am
3. Have/Has
4. Was/Were
5. Doesn’t/Don’t
6. Wasn’t/Weren’t

* Student A randomly says pronouns to Student B.  (I, You, He, She, It, We, They)
* Student B must say the correct verb that matches with the pronoun.

Example: Round 1

Student A:Â He
Student B:Â does
Student A:Â We
Student B:Â do
Student A:Â They
Student B:Â do

* After 7-10 words, the partners switch.  After switching, they go to round 2.
* Students are trying for perfection, and then to develop speed.
* Make sure they say the pronouns randomly to avoid developing a pattern in their speaking.

Another option is to put the students into two groups and the teacher says the pronouns.  Working through each round with one pronoun for each student, the two teams can have a competition to see which is the fastest.

This game works very well for students who know simple subject verb agreement on tests and in writing, but sometimes make mistakes when speaking.  It is also very good to promote speed for students who still speak at a slow pace.  In general, it makes students think and speak quickly, which gets their brains really working hard.
Thanks for listening!

Christmas is upon us … ho! ho! ho! Merry Christmas everybody!  Tis the season, so Matt has a new Christmas Song for you to download and use in your classes: Merry Christmas!  It’s a play-like song with speaking, actions and a matching picture book!  There are a few more resources discussed that are available for download from MES.  You can find all those here, MES Christmas, if you are interested.

This week’s show is about motivating your students.  Matt goes over his three keys for motivation your students and Mark comments and adds two more areas to think about in your lessons.

self motivation

when to encourage and when to challenge

setting up the right classroom environment

choosing an appropriate theme and format

using testing to motivate

If you have any other tips or advice for other teachers out there about motivating students, we’d love to hear from you.  Please post your comments here or over on the ESL Teacher Talk forums!

Game of the Week: the Knock Out Race

This is a new board game from Tools for Educators that you can completely customize with images, text only or a mixture of both.  It’s different than most board games out there in that it’s a loop.  So you can practice your content several times and even increase the difficulty or add new tasks with the same content.  It has been a big success in my classes and I hope your students enjoy it!

This show was recorded back in the summer and a few shows got bumped up, so if you feel we’ve gone back in time, I guess we have But first, we of course have some new things on the web to talk about …Â Check those out at the end of the show notes.

Teaching toddlers:

This show goes over some basic problems that come up in teaching classes with 1-3 year olds: short attention spans, running around the room, eating your materials, high expectations of the parents and more.  Each problem is addressed and a few ideas for dealing with each are discussed.

More advice and focus is given to the actual planning and running of the classes:

language production and what to expect

handling zero production

eliciting language from this group

activities: what do they like

activities: what qualities do they like

vocabulary: how to introduce it

working with music and actions

play and explore vs. teaching at them

how to motivate them

Quite a bit in this show and we hope some of it is helpful if it’s not all applicable.

If you have anything to add to the show, your own advice or questions, please let us know.  Post them here or over at the ESL Teacher Forums.  We’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for listening!

New materials from Matt and Mark:
Matt has a new phonics section with Touch and Say phonics over at Dream English.  There are chants to download, worksheets, flashcards and more.  Check those out!

Happy fall everybody!

We’ll get back to fall and Halloween for the games of the week, but Matt has some great news for you.  He’s finished and launched Dream English volume 3.  There is a download pack on his website and it contains all of the songs from the 3 CDs plus a few bonus songs (over 45 songs.)  You can also just get the new CD from there as well.
This show deals with teaching communication strategies. We discuss ideas and tips to teach to students, especially teens, about how to be a better conversationalist.  So while it’s not really teaching them English, you will be teaching them how to involve themselves better in conversation and keep conversations going.  The main points Mark covers in the podcast are:

using questions

follow up questions

feeding the conversation content

not killing, but keeping the conversation

keeping everyone involved

how to move forward from negative responses

attacking the conversation and not being passive

There are bits and pieces in there about how to adapt these ideas to children’s lessons.  We also discuss some ideas and advice for helping quiet students.

There are 4 activities mentioned toward the end of the show to help apply some of these concepts in your lessons.
If you have any questions of comments about the show, please post them here or over on the ESL Teacher Talk Forums at MES-English. We’d love to hear from you.

Games of the week:Â It’s a mummy. You’re it!

I just made that name up, but this week Matt has a Halloween theme game that uses some flashcards and game cards from MES-English’s Halloween set.  Using a few cards and playing some Halloween music, you can have a lot of fun selecting students for different language tasks or it can be a knock out game you use at a Halloween party.

There are two more games mentioned that are just party games and might be fun for you to use with your students.

Thanks for listening!

There are also some new teaching videos at MES-TV.  There are straight vocabulary videos, questions and answer videos as well as interactive question only videos.

what are chants, why use them, and what are the benefits

differences between chants and songs in teaching

how chants are used in class

an example of a chant – ‘Days of the Week‘

ideas for adding chants to different sections of your existing lesson plans

Matt added a free simple background beat clip for ETT listeners!  You can use the file to create your chants for anything.

Later in the show, Mark discusses sentence reduction and incresing student fluency.  He explains in adult classes how teachers can use some chanting to increase speed, fluency and pronounciation.

Game of the Week: the Chanting Game

Matt brings the game of the week this week.  It can be very simple or use more complicated language structures.  It can be used with classes of 6 and up and is a whole lot of fun.  Many variations of the activity are discussed as well.  Give it a try and let us know how it goes!

A challenge for listeners.  What’s a better end to this sentence than Mark’s off-the-cuff  response:

The show starts off with unseasonable weather and a circus but moves quickly into this show’s theme, the present continuous.

Matt and Mark go over:

presenting the target language orally

why teach the present continuous early on in your curriculum

teaching and explaining the grammar using only English

forming questions and negatives

Teaching short answers, or that is to say not teaching short answers, but the ‘reduced’ answers.

Towards the end, Mark goes over quite a few games that can be used to practice the present continuous.  The games were mentioned fairly quickly, but a couple that have further explanations can be found here: Go Fish, Memory, Slap, board games, and Bounce Around

Game of the Week: the Skit Kit
This is an activity that focuses on creating stories, short dialogs and can be built up into skits or role plays for the students to perform.  This activity can be used with large classes and works well all the way down to one-on-one classes.  Mark goes over how to use the Skit Kit to accomplish the activity goals, but if you don’t want to use the actual kit, that’s no problem and Mark explains how.

The activity has many parts and it’s also great for introducing focused target language.  We hope you and your students enjoy it.

Game of the Week: Flashcards and Board Games
This is an activity for making a board game more of a conversational activity.  Using a board game for practicing simple vocabulary or one taget language and combining that with another target language to form mini-speech acts.  This is a great activity for changing a board game into a communicative activity and is useful for adults down to elementary school students.  You can make boardgames here and get free printable flashcards here.
We hope it helps.  Happy teaching!

This show Mark explains some new features to the free word search maker at Tools for Educators.  It really makes a word search a worksheet but keeps it fun.  Matt has opened a new website Kids English Books.com and there you can find simple stories to download or use online.
This week’s show deals with how to explain activities just using English, without translating or using L1.  There are several reasons you might not use the students L1:

you can’t speak the language

you have a mixed background class (many L1s)

your administration forbids the use of the students native language

you simply decide it’s best for the students

If you fit into any of these categories, this show might be helpful.
Mark and Matt cover ideas on how to get explain games or activities without translating.  There are examples on how to explain some tradition American kids games, ideas for beginner classes, advice on how to strip activities down but still provide structure for learning, advice for more complicated games, higher level students and ideas on how to do this with large groups.

We also briefly cover some of the benefits to using an all-English explanation in your lessons.

A couple games were mentioned in the show: Go Fish and Get Four.
If you have any additions, questions or comments on the show please post them here or over at the ESl teacher Talk forums.  We’re listening!

Game of the Week: What’s your name musical chairs

This week Matt brings us the GOTW.  It’s an interesting twist on musical chairs and provides a fun way to get students up, moving and engaged in the language.  While it sounds like a children’s game, there are a few variations discussed that create some great ways to practice with higher level students and adult groups.  We hope you can use it.
Thanks for listening!

That’s not all, Matt also has a site called Free ABC Songs.com where you can find traditional English songs that you can also use in your lessons or with your own children!

There’s also a section in the podcast that introduces a cool new site, 123 Listening.com.  This is a collaborative effort between Mark’s site, MES-English.com and Dream English.com.  It has free listening tests, test audio and worksheet makers where you can make your own listening tests.
We’d love to hear how you use you music in your classes or any questions you might have about 123 Listening.com, Dream English.com or Free ABC Songs.com. Post them here or over at the ESL Teacher Talk forums. Ask questions or leave comments about the show.  You can also just pop-in and introduce yourself.  We’d love to know who’s listening.
Thanks for listening!

Game of the Week: Spiders and Candy

This was a game originally developed for 1 and 2 years old.  However, after a few years of using this game, Mark has tried some variations with older students and adults.  It was very successful and Mark explains what to do.  It can be used with small classes of any age but for older students it can be adapted for larger classes.  You can find printables for this game at the games section of MES-English.com.  There’s also a written out explanation of the game there as well.

Happy teaching!

In this show we discuss some ideas on how to organize and exam prep course, what are some key points to include, how to maintain motivation, some ideas for the interview sections and more.

Mark avoids teaching test prep courses like the plague so if you’d just like some great tips on how to encourage students not to seek test prep lessons, this show is also for you .

John writes some ESL cartoons/comic strips which John also makes available for download and use in your lessons. Those can be found at Langwichscool.com

ELTgames.com is another site run by John with materials for different levels with games, group work and tasks for students and another section with communication activities.

If you have any comments or questions, post them here or over at the ESL Teacher Talk forums. Ask questions or leave comments about the show.

Thanks for listening!

Game of the Week: Rotating Interviews

This is an activity that would work well in exam preparation course and for regular lessons as well. This would work best with intermediate to advanced students, but adjustable for students levels. Some students become interviewers and other students are the interviewees. It’s a good activity to get students up and moving.

Mark starts the conversation off and offers quite a few ideas about what makes for good speaking activities:

less about the language and more about the language goal

lower levels – very repetitive

higher levels – the language is functional and real

make sure the activity is student centered

…

and Mark goes on with more tips for creating a successful speaking activity.

Chris adds to Mark’s list with some other tips:

high talk time

expanding on the activities

variability in the activity structure

decide whether the activity is for fluency, accuracy, or one then the other.

…

Ron batting number 3 in the discussion added his tips:

creating student interest in the activity

tips to decrease student anxiety

don’t overextend a short activity – killing it and your audience

Part 2 goes into how to actually accomplish some of these ideas to make speaking activities and language practice more effective. We give some examples of what we think are good examples of these ideas, some examples of what we think aren’t good examples and how those can easily be changed to more effective speaking task.

Ideas for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Some of the games and ideas discussed in the show can be found in previous games of the week or in the following links: the Paper Game MES Games Get Four

We have a big show this week, so we get right into it.

Mark and Ron cover these points concerning the Silent Way methodology:

what is the Silent Way Method

key aspects of the Silent Method

how does the Silent Method work in class

using cuisenaire rods, colored blocks and instilling learner autonomy

criticism of the Silent Method and what we can do with it in class

The Silent Way is a very intriguing method and if you have any questions or anything to add about the silent method post your comments or questions over on the ESL Teacher Talk Forums.  We’re listening!

Game of the Week: the Paper Game

This is a pretty big game of the week.  It is Mark’s favorite game and the seed that started several games at MES-English which in turn started MES-English.  It’s the game that started it all!

It’s a communcative game that has students assume personalities.  The students interact and try to guess who the other student is.  It can be played with groups of 4 to 400.  It’s adaptable to all levels and goes over well with children and adults.  You can use the template to create your own board and there are game board makers that allow you to make boards using the same images from the MES-English flashcards.  Enjoy!

Clive of ESL Podcards is with us again this week. He’s been working his site and enrolled in a new course. He’s learning about Content and Language Intergrated Learning (CLIL.) In the beginning Clive gives us a quick run down of what CLIL is.

Clive and Mark take a look at their experiences team teaching. Some of their experiences have been positive and some haven’t been so positive. However, these experiences are all with other languages teachers. This is where CLIL differs.

CLIL uses one language teacher and one subject teacher. The subject teacher is the content pro and the language teacher is the language/linguistic pro. Together they work to teach content and improve language skills. The goal of the lesson isn’t a linguist goal, but a content goal.

Other parts covered include:

positive and negative aspects

using multiple intelligences

Discuss CLIL or ask questions over on the ESL Teacher Talk forums. We’d be glad to keep the show going!

Check out Clive’s site ESLpodcards for listening resources for teachers with accompanying worksheets and transcripts.

Game of the week: Bounce Around

This is a simple board game that can be used for practice or for review. The game can be adapted to any level or any linguistic target. It can be used with elementary school students to adults, large classes, small classes and it’s great for one-on-one. All you need is a board, markers for the students and a die.

You can make a board with all text, mixed text and images or all images. That board maker is available at Tools for Educators.com.
THe show starts off with a brief look at the possible hazards associated with teaching ESL. Mark has a pretty interesting story from work this week.
This podcast we’re glad to welcome Patrick Bickford, from Englipedia. Patrick tells us a little about where he’s teaching, what he’s doing and about the website he’s been working on for the past year.

“Englipedia is about people contributing a little of their own ideas, and in turn gaining a valuable resource by which we all can benefit. It is dedicated to Assistant Language Teachers, Japanese Teachers of English and Homeroom teachers working within Japan’s … public education sector.”

Patrick tells us a bit about Englipedia, what the site contains and how teachers can use and adapt some of the resources. Please check out the site. http://jhsenglipediaproject.com

You can discuss this show as well as older shows on the ESL Teacher Talk Forums. We’d love to hear from you.

Game of the Week : Mario and Luigi

Patrick brings with him the Game of the Week this week. It’s a whole class activity aimed at elementary school children. It could also be used with kindergarten classes and small groups as well. It’s a fun review/practice game and gets a little of that video game energy into the classroom. We hope you enjoy the activity!

Have fun!

This week’s show is about using projectors in your classes.  The projector is a great tool for engaging the students and adding tchnology to your classes.  Ron’s school just added new projectors to the classroom and he’s all hyped up about them.

Ron and Mark offer ideas for what you can do with projectors, explain why it’s useful, how to use them in children’s, teen and adult classes .  There is also a warning section about problems and possible pitfalls with projectors in the classroom.

If you are using a projector already, hopefully this will give you a couple ideas to add to your lessons.  If you aren’t using a projector currently, maybe this will help when the day comes.

Discuss this show over on the ESL Teacher Talk forums.  Ask questions or leave comments about how you use a projector in your classes.

Thanks for listening!

The Game of the Week: Speed Dice and the Sentence Race

Mark has been enraptured with dice games for the past year or so and brings 2 games this week.  These are simple to prepare and can be used with children to adults, one-on-one classes to the dreaded 80+ classes as well.  We hope you can use the activity.

More dice games and a write up of these games.

Things are moving and shaking at MES-English with a new website that will bring a lot of flexibility to MES-English users and provide materials for teachers that may not have been MES-E users in the past. Tools for Educators.com!

Mark has been working for a month or so on the new site and it offers teachers a few worksheet makers, a handout generator, dice makers, domino wizard, spelling and reading quizzes, a board game creator, a tracing and free writing worksheet generator and more. Please check it out!

Continuing with teaching methodologies, this week’s show is the third in the series, the Audio-Lingual Method. Mark and Ron will run down for you what the Audio^Lingual method is and the principles behind it and how it is/was used. We also discuss what we can take away from the method, plus a few thoughts on what we should leave behind.

Discuss this show at the ESL Teacher Talk forums. Leave comments about this show, words of encouragement, suggestions for future shows, or just pop-in and tell us who you are.

The Game of the Week: Crisscross Bingo

Crisscross Bingo is a fresh version of the old classic. Students combine words or phrases in a speaking task that can be adjusted to the students’ level. They plot points on their board much like Battleship and place a mark on their board. When they get 3 in a row or 4 in a row, bingo!

This game was designed to be played using dice which you can make here. You can also create the boards very quickly from Tools for Educators.com. But you don’t need to do that. This game is easily adapted to larger classes, it can be played with flashcards instead of dice and it can be played with any ordinary pair of dice and a sheet of paper.
We hope your students (and you) enjoy the game!

Game of the week: King Me

A fun game for large classes, small groups, children or adults. A game for everyone. You’ll need a set of flashcards, but you’ll need to get on the photocopier and make a few different versions of the cards. You’ll need some space, but it’s a fun game.

Happy New Year!  We’re back and we hope everyone has had a great holiday.  Ron’s in Tailand and Mark is freezing in Nagano.  The idea of enjoying winter and getting out in the snow came up, but …
This show deals with putting together an ESL event, show, or presentation for your school or the parents.  It can seem like a lot to ask, because you are often give little or no direction.

We go over some options for content, what to do, what you might not want to do, options for content and some of the things Ron and Mark have done.  We offer ideas for elementary school, junior high
Putting on shows is actually fun.  Trust me.  It’s actually great once it’s over so if you get a performance dumped in your lap, we hope you embrace the opportunity to put on a Christmas Pirate Adventure!

Mark actually disagrees with putting on shows, presentations and events.  That part didn’t quite make it into the show, but if you’re wanting to know why, hop over to the ESL Teacher Talk forums at MES-English.com and ask what that’s all about.

Game of the Week: Guess Who

Ron has brought a game for any level, but best for 10 and up.  There’s little preparation necessary; a set of questions and a sheet of paper for everyone.   There’s some writing involved and several different variations to spice up the game.  Good for large groups, but can be adapted to smaller groups.  Enjoy!

In a quick intro to the show, we find out Mark is ecstatically jubilant this week. Things are fabulously wonderful in Japan. Find out why.

Continuing with teaching methods, this week’s show is about the Direct Method. Mark and Ron will run down for you what the direct method is, how it was used and why.

We may give the Direct Method a bit of a hard time in the beginning, but all methods have merit and many things you can use and things you probably already use come from the Direct Method. There are a lot of great things you get from it. Mark and Ron put forth a few ideas of what parts of the method you can use in your classes tomorrow. I’m going to say ‘use’ one more time. Basically, things you can use.

Discuss this show at the ESL Teacher Talk forums. Leave comments about this show, words of encouragement, suggestions for future shows, or just pop-in and tell us who you are.

Game of the Week: Story Differences

It works just like find the difference pictures. Students have two versions of one story and they need to find the differences by discussing their stories. It’s a great speaking and negotiating activity. Students need to practice verifying information or expressing differences of opinion. Enjoy!

Listen to the show.

This might be the last podcast that opens with a Halloween discussion. It was recorded back at the beginning of Oct. If you’d like to see the outcome of all of this Halloween talk, here’s the pictures and run down of Mark’s 2007 Halloween party www.marks-english-school.com/news/2007halloween/
Kenny has left the building and someone has to teach his children’s class that starts in 10 minutes. Mark has asked Clive to cover the lesson and Clive is in a panic. Luckily, Clive has 10 minutes to get some advice and Mark offers a few ideas for what you can do in this situation; assessing levels, activities with no materials, describing items, phonics, singing and more. There’s enough information to teach 4-5 hours without a lesson plan!
More info on the exercise game: www.mes-english.com/games/gamestoplay.php

Kenny has done it again and is looking to get fired. This time he’s gone home with the sniffles and Clive needs someone to cover an adult class that starts in … you guessed it! 10 minutes. Well, Mark has agreed to do it, but is concerned that’s there’s no lesson plan and he doesn’t want to look like an idiot. So, Clive gives Mark a few ideas for things he can do for assessing the class’s level to activities that can be done on the fly; soap operas, quiz games, current events, writing prompts, and a few other ideas.
If you have some ideas for things teachers can do in this situation, please share. Visit the ESL Teacher Talk forums and post your ideas or comments!

This week we’re back with part 2 of phonics order.  Mark and Ron finish off phonics and what order they teach things.  As well a that, they touch on some ideas for advanced phonics teaching and advanced learners.

Toward the end we touch on phonics for all ages and by the end of of a double header, we hope we have given you a few things to think about.  If you are setting out your phonics curriculum, maybe we’ve offered some direction.  if you already have your system set up, well … maybe you’ll get something from the show.

Game of the Week: Phonics Toss

This is a pretty easy game and designed for younger learners, but adults like to have fun as well.  All you need is your phonics flashcards (make your own if you need to) and a few balls (wads of paper will work.) It’s easy and people love it.  Happy teaching!

Ron gives us a great game this week, Word Baseball. You can use it in your phonics lesson or it can be adapted to other lessons.  It requires little to no preparation and can be used on the fly if you need more practice or need to fill some extra time.

Just when you thought the stores were putting out their Halloween stuff a little too early, Mark explains to you the market they’re after. Luckily, Halloween isn’t the topic of this September show. Don’t let the beginning make you think other wise.

Mark and Clive both run their own school and one of the more difficult problems with running your own school is getting classes together. Not only getting bodies in the door but also making sure those students are in good groupings with similar level and goal oriented students.

It’s a full house with Ron, Clive and Mark all chiming in on how they select textbooks, assess students’ levels, and how they deal with different age groups.

Mark’s carvings can be found about half way down this page.

Game of the Week: Fizz Buzz

Clive has brought the game of the week and it’s an adapted version of a British drinking game. While you technically could play it as a drinking game, we don’t recommend it Instead, you can use the game to review vocabulary such as irregular verbs.

Mark, Clive and Ron give the game a go! Listen to the show to see who the winner are.

Game of the Week: Tic, Tac, Know
A quick game that’s easy to set up. You need 9-16 flashcards and a few students. It’s flexible and gets the students moving. It is designed for young learners but I’m sure adults as well can enjoy the game and learning. Happy teaching!

A new co-host, Clive, squares off with Mark about which is better teaching children or teaching adults. Mark prefers teaching children and has some suggestions for Clive’s problems in children’s classes. Then Clive, who prefers teaching adults, offers Mark some suggestions for Mark’s problems with adult classes.

Clive will be apearing on the show from time to time and we’re very glad to have him. In the first segment of the show we learn about Clive and what he’s doing in Italy. He runs www.eslpodcards.com and if you haven’t been by there yet, stop by and take a look around. Clive explains how to use the articles, listening and worksheets you can find in the Pocard lessons.

Game of the Week: True or False

This is a game that requires little to no preparation. It practices question formation as well as reasoning and being convincing in English. The game is described as practice for past simple but can be easily adapted to suit the present, present perfect, future and more. It’s up to your imagination. Have fun!

In the Just Talk section of the show, Ron tells us about living and working in Taiwan. You can get a feel for what to expect, good ways to find a job and what to be weary of when looking to work in Taiwan.

Game of the Week: Curiosity

An almost zero preparation game that practices question formation and continuing a conversation. This game is good for intermediate to advanced intermediate levels. It’s best with small groups but is explained in the show how it could be adapted for larger classes.
