A Letter To A Fellow Immigrant To Israel

Below is a cleaned up version of a message I sent to a relative strange who posted a message on Facebook, which was then circulated. He seemed down about life in Israel, particularly as a single man, and was wondering if making aliyah was the best decision.

Even though he posted it semi-publicly, and it's made the rounds, I still don't feel comfortable publishing his name or his original post.

Let my Esser Agaroth be applicable as a general response to such quandaries.

Your post on Facebook was being passed around. Please take this act as people caring about a fellow Jew, and not something negative. Israel is the only true homeland of the Jewish People. I'm not sure how long you've been here, but I guess the honeymoon's over.

I, too, came here alone (and without a trust fund either). You're right about the need to find a community. You can do anything with a community supporting you. Personally, I never lived in the "ghetto." (ie. an exclusively English speaking community). That's not for everyone, of course. But, it worked for me, even though it was hard. It's hard to break into native Israeli circles of friends, even in yeshiva or in the army, especially when many of them have known each other from Kindergarten through army service.

You were wondering why you did not find Anglos sticking together. I can't really say why, because I always thought they did, in those predominantly English-speaking communities I mentioned. Those aren't for me, but I now recommend them, if that's how olim (immigrants) feel best about finding that sense of community.

I've been here almost 15 years, and it's actually the "Anglos" who have taken advantage of me, rather than the [native] "Israelis," I, unfortunately, often hear Anglos complain about. I really try to stay away from anything that suggests "us and them." I may not be considered "Israeli," but I am a Jew living in Eretz Yisra'el, just like "Israelis," and that's how I identify.

The first few years were hard. I then found years 3, 5, 7, and10 also to be hard. Then, I realized that my difficulties ceased to be difficulties related to living in Israel, but just plain ol' difficulties. The country where I was living didn't matter.

Our Sages z"l state that three gifts were given to Israel, but only through suffering: Torah, Eretz Yisrael, and the World to Come (Talmud Bavli, Brekhoth 5a). As far as Eretz Yisrael is concerned, I have seen, and experienced, the "suffering" as adapting to a new culture, a new language (even though it's our language), a new form of bureaucracy, a new standard of living and economic situation. I find that most people who don't "make it," are the ones who can't deal with different standards of living. I believe this is evidence of just how materialistic Anglos can be.

Psychological research has shown that immigration to a new country is number three, after death and divorce (לא עלינו) on the list of the most stressful events incurred in life. At least, that was the case 15 years ago, when I first hear the study. Obviously, only you can decide what is right for you. I was told by the shali'ah in Los Angeles, 16 years ago, that 50% of North Americans return "home" within five years of making aliyah. It's a shame that North America is still referred to as "home," both by the shali'ah , and by many olim. But, that's not the point right now. Fifty percent is a lot. I hope it's gone down since then.

You don't know me, but I felt compelled to write, and figured that the worst thing that could happen would be that you'd blow up at me, telling me to mind my own business, or just delete this. Please note, I'm not giving you advice. I'm just sharing my experience with you.

I'd say "hang in there," but maybe that would also be considered advice. Nonetheless, I hung in here, and I'm still here, and happier than I would have been in the U. S. I'm not sure what was promised to you by Nefesh b'Nefesh, or by anyone else. But if it turned out to be..."incorrect," then that should definitely be corrected.

Let me know if I can help with anything. I can't promise anything, like finding you a wife (the shidduch/shadkanit scene is a horrific mess, both in Israel AND in the U. S. But I could try or point you in the right direction.

In light of a wave of attacks and carjackings on Judea and Samaria highways, civilians in the area have begun taking over from the IDF. A newly established group of Binyamin-area Israelis aims to protect the roads where the military has failed, Tatzpit reports.

The group conducts routine patrols and has its own vehicles on the road to show a stronger security presence.

The volunteer guards expressed hope that they would not permanently replace the IDF, but rather, would serve as a temporary back-up while the army prepares to handle the threat itself.

This is an unfortunate attitude. Sure, it would be nice to have a truly, Jewish army defending the People and the Land, loyal to HaShem and His Torah over any other contradictory authority. But, we currently do not have such a thing. These settlers have very short, and faulty, memories. Not even seven years ago, setters in Azza entrusted their personal security to the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF]. Where did it get them? Homeless and wandering....

“The army is obligated to protect the junctions, and the brigade commander promised to do so,” said Motti Yogev, deputy head of the Binyamin Regional Council. “That is the army’s job, and I hope it will take full responsibility for it.”

This is a very naive statement, assuming we have an accurate depiction of Yogev's perspective. More and more, we have been shown that the job of the IDF is to throw Jews out of there homes, and to execute the handing over (ie. mesirah) pieces of our God-given Homeland to goyim, and not just goyim, but goyim who want to annihilate us.

But in the meantime, Binyamin-area Jews cannot afford to wait, residents said. “We aren’t going to gamble our lives or our families’ lives,” said Viki Ezra of Dolev. “As long as the Binyamin region commander isn’t prepared to handle this mission, we will do it voluntarily.”

He suggested that similar groups be set up elsewhere in Judea and Samaria.

Last week, a Palestinian Authority gang used multiple cars to trap Israeli drivers in the Binyamin area by surrounding them, then slowing down while honking, flashing lights, and intermittently breaking. The Israeli drivers managed to break free, and following the incident the IDF increased nighttime security on local highways.

Last Tuesday, an Israeli woman from Nerya barely escaped a carjacking, managing to get away by ramming her attackers’ cars as a PA man attempted to break into her vehicle.

What I find bizarre about this article is that it seems to be written in a way which suggests that this is the first time such an idea has ever been executed. The first settlers in any area any of Israel have always guarded their towns. Only recently, have more and more Jewish towns in Yehudah and the Shomron (Judea & Samaria) have jumped on the "privatization" (We're above such labor) band wagon, and have hired outside security companies to do the jobs for them.

What I find disturbing is that this article failed to mention the desire of other settlers, albeit a minority, to do ALL of their regional guarding by themselves, knowing full well that the deployment of the IDF or the employment of private security companies to do the guarding is to make way for future expulsions of Jews from our land and homes. Most of these security companies restrict employees from serving in their your towns. Hmmm... because maybe they won't take orders to throw their neighbors out of their homes when the time comes?

And, the time WILL come.

Courts administration seeks investigation against MK Ben Ari for distributing posters depicting judges wearing keffiyehs. MK Ben Ari: 'Keffiyeh isn't an insult'

An adviser to the courts administration urged Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein on Wednesday to launch an investigation against Knesset Member Michael Ben Ari (National Union), who was responsible for the distribution of posters that allegedly disparaged the High Court of Justice.

In a letter obtained by Ynet, Attorney Barak Lazer claimed that the posters, which were hung across Jerusalem, depicted High Court justices wearing keffiyehs and featured the slogan "If there is no loyalty, there is no justice."

Lazer posited that the ads were made in protest against the court's decision to deny the State's petition to postpone the eviction of the residents of Ulpana, a neighborhood built on contested land in the West Bank settlement of Beit El.

Contested, huh? I wish, for once, that an MK would stand up in the K'nesseth, and say, "The Land is not contested. It is ours, and we are commanded to maintain sovereignty over it," and then quote halakha (Jewish Law). I'm not holding my breath for this to happen again.

MK Uri Ariel has mentioned similar ideas in the K'nesseth, but it just seemed to fall on deaf ears. Actually, Rabbi Me'ir Kahane did quote halakhah and verses from Tana"kh, and they banned him soon afterwards for being a racist, simply because he chose not to play with Jewish Law, like the puppets of the Israeli government like to do, yet another example of how the system is not a Jewish system of government, let alone not even a democratic one.

The poster Lazer wrote that the posters appear to incite mutiny, and could warrant a contempt of court charge. "The leveling of such defamatory statements and incitement against the Supreme Court – the institution and the judges – is outrageous and intolerable," he wrote. "(…) An attempt to delegitimize the courts system and its judges, and to ascribe inappropriate intentions while slandering judges due to a decision that was made at their professional discretion, must be viewed gravely – all the more so when it is done by a public official."

What is considered to be "incitement against the Supreme Court" in Israel, would be considered an expression of freedom of speech in the U. S. A., the poster child for modern day democracy. Still think Israel is a democracy? (See MK Ben-Ari's final quote below)

It really frustrates me that my fellow Israelis continue to think that anything is going to change, that anything can change, with the current system of government. More and more the true colors of the Israeli Supreme Court are being revealed. Sure. We've always known them to be biases toward the Left. But, now, anytime the elected government of Israel proposes to change the manner in which supreme court justices are appointed, the Israeli Supreme Court justices have tantrums, threaten political warfare, or both.

Without getting into whether the Israeli Supreme has any authority at all, according to Jewish Law, and whether democracy has any place in a truly, Jewish Government, I thought that the K'nesseth was supposed to be the voice of the people, empowered by the people. Thus, if the K'nesseth wants to reform the Israeli justice system, and justice commited to the execution of democracy shouldn't have a problem with it.

Instead, justices sitting on the Israeli Supreme Court, decry various issues to be un-Constitution, simply because they do not approve of them.

How do I know this?

It's simple. Israel doesn't have a Constitution; therefore, nothing can really be un-Constitutional.

Clearly, Israeli is a deMOCKracy, not a democracy.

'Courts are racist'
MK Ben Ari dismissed the accusations.

"I don’t understand what's wrong with putting a Keffiyeh on a judge," he said. " The thought that a keffiyeh is some kind of an insult indicates that the spirit of racism has reached the courts administration.

"I wish the police would open the investigation; it would allow me the opportunity to teach the courts administration a lesson in democracy," he added. "It's funny that the same court officials who fight for the freedom of expression are seeking silence when it comes to legitimate criticism of judges."

Well, MK Ben-Ari has got them here. Just there's one problem. The Courts have yet to demonstrate the application of normal logic. The will undoubted have no clue as to what Ben-Ari is talking about, nor care. In their minds, if it doesn't fit in with Western (so called) progressive sensibilities, then it must be wrong. Because, after all, they [think that they] know better than everybody else.

Our only hope is that their own gaivah (pride) will bring themselves down, sooner rather than later. Various prophesies suggest that's what will happen to the non-kosher birds [temporarily] in power over the Land of Israel (Em HaBanim S'meicha).

I'm just impatient.

(Yeshiva World News) Rav Aviner: Don't Protest Expulsion From Beit El Homes

While Beit El residents continue davening, the government is still planning to evict the families residing in the Ulpana neighborhood of the Shomron community as was reported by YWN-ISRAEL.

Rav Shlomo Aviner Shlita, a posek in the dati leumi community and resident of Beit El is quoted as telling the tzibur that he will not take part in any protests against such a move should it be actualized chas v’sholom. The plan calls for expelling families from five buildings, each home to six families.

News1 quotes the rav, who told mispallalim during a Friday night drasha that if security forces are sent to remove the families from their homes, he would not take part in a protest. Aviner did not chas v’sholom side with such a plan, but explains that even if the government moves ahead with this “evil act”, then we are compelled “to lose with honor”. He cites three reasons for his hashkafa; (1) A protest is designed to influence others, primarily decision-makers and this is not relevant in this case; (2) Another reason is to instill fear in the other side, and this too is not applicable, as was seen during past expulsions. “The IDF is not afraid of tens of thousands of Jews or 30 million Arabs; (3) A protest is to express one’s dissent and this picture, one of Jews opposing Jews is not the sight we wish to send to the international media.

The report adds that two mispallalim got up and walked out as the rav delivered his drasha. A third mispallel waited until the end of davening and then shouted at the rav, explaining that his words simply weaken their battle against another expulsion.

YWN-ISRAEL NOTE: The Ulpana neighborhood is inhabited for 13 years. Residents purchased their homes legally, with government subsidized bank mortgages. Government agencies funded the construction and infrastructure of the community, now declared illegal by the High Court of Justice

Even I am not sure that I can argue with Aviner's points 1 and 2. Maybe he's right. We already know what is going to happen. Why waste our times with these strategies.

Plus, maybe people who continue to trust in a government over and over again, which throws its own people out of their homes, and hands over Jewish land to goyim, even though the Land isn't the Israeli Government's to give away, and sends their sons to IDF to participate in the destruction, deserve what they get.

Point no. 3 is what the mamlakhtim (undying State loyalists) MUST get their heads around already, if they expect to hold onto ANY remnants of Yehudah and Shomron (Judea & Samaria).

Mamlakhti "rabbis" like Shlomo Aviner are holding the Jewish People hostage with threats of "what would the goyim think" if they see us behave this way or that towards our own army, government, and brothers.

Let me tell you something. The goyshe, Ukrainian Yassa"mnikim (riot police), who actually GET OFF on beating up Religious Jews, settlers and Haredim, are NOT, I repeat NOT, MY brothers!

If Jews were to protest the expulsion of fellow Jews from God-given, Jewish Land, the goyim would see Jews standing up and defending their principles. They would see Jews standing by the authority of The Holy One, Blessed Be He, over the human authority attempting to pull the wool over ~~the sheeple's~~ our eyes.

That's what the goyim would see.

"Rabbi" Aviner is considered the (State-approved) rabbinic authority in half the town of Beth El. While in the northern half of Beth El, Rabbi Zalman Melamed, the Head of the Beth El Yeshiva, is considered by most to be their rabbinic authority.

The current piece of Land and apartment complexes are in the northeast of Beth El, a town of over 1,000 families.

Beth El apartment buildings set for destruction (חו"ח). "Settlement" of suburb? You be the judge.

Many of the people in Beth El B' should know better. Their rabbi, Rabbi Z. Melamed, has approved of protests, and of refusing IDF orders to throw Jews out of their homes. He, himself, was barricaded in the K'far Darom (Gaza) synagogue, with Rabbi Dov Lior of Hevron, in a last stand against the expulsion of Jews from there in 2005.

Other Beth El B' residents have experienced first hand, and have testified to, the betrayal of the YeSh"A Council collaborators.

Aviner & Uri Bar-Lev on Expulsion Day from Gush Qatif & the rest of Azza: "A picture is worth a 1,000 words."

The following video shows "Rabbi" Aviner's collaboration with the government in the expulsion of Jews from their homes in Gush Qatif/Azza (תשס"ה/2005).

But, of course, ALL of the above reasons for ignoring "Rabbi" Aviner are completely irrelevant.

It has already been forbidden, al pi din, to ask for his guidance regarding ANY issue for over six years.

Below is an English translation of the p'saq din instructing the religious public not to rely on Aviner for anything. This p'saq din still stands, and will continue to stand until Aviner comes forth to answer questions about his rulings regarding tohorath mishpahah (family purity).

By writing a letter to Rav Mordechai Eliyahu ztz"l, in his own hand (shown above), most authorities have held that Aviner has, indeed, accepted the authority of Rav Eliyahu and Rav Shapira's ztz"l beth din.

Not showing up, when he said that he would, created a problem that the rabbanim (listed below) could not ignore. When Aviner continued to rule on issues of tohorath mshpahah (family purity), even after accepting the beth din's direction not to do so

Jews make the excuse, "We shouldn't get involved in mahloqoth haRabanim."

Shouldn't get involved? So, don't get involved. But, you need to decided who to listen to.

For me, that's easy. I listen to the rabbanim who provide relevant, halakhic sources to back up their rulings, sources which can hold up to scrutiny. Those who are simply charismatic, and are skilled at giving an exciting and inspiring speech, filled with popular hashqafic notions which people want to hear, do not do it for me, nor should they do it for you.

When one makes decisions solely based on hashqafah, he is no better than those Jews who identify with non-Torah-based, "pick and choose" communities.

I would be very wary of any "rav" or community which is completely blind to the existence of stiroth (conflicts) between the Torah and Israeli Law

To our brethren in the Torah observant community

More than a year has passed since the Bet Din (Rabbinical Court), comprised of three of our greatest rabbis, was appointed to investigate the many complaints lodged against the instruction of Rabbi Shlomo Aviner. With the presentation of explicit evidence, it was made clear that with regard to the issues of menstruation and marital relations (the areas which were checked), he has been permitting things which are completely prohibited under halacha (Jewish Law) And this is not one the issues which carry differing opinions amongst adjudicators and experts, but rather is among the very serious and clear Torah prohibitions which have never been matters of disagreement; and not just one incident, but rather a systematic removal of family purity from amongst those who inquire of him and listen to his instruction. Accordingly, it has become clear that the Bet Din stands by its ruling, yet the aforementioned individual continues to mislead those who make inquiries of him regarding these matters.

To our regret others have arisen, who without having clarify the facts very well and without having approached any members of the Bet Din, have come to strengthen his position against the Bet Din's ruling and to clarify "his approach," and who have been misled by him through various distortions about which there is insufficient room to elaborate them. And, Indeed, it is very difficult for anyone who knows the aforementioned as one who strikes at the Torah and at the very Fear of Heaven, to accept that there is a such personality here, who on one hand brings Jews back to Torah with contradictory language, and on the other hand maliciously teaches the transgression of prohibitions, punishable by excommunication. You cannot judge a book by its cover.

And, here in the conclusion of the Bet Din, the explicit halacha is that regarding one who causes the public to stumble through his teaching on issues punishable by excommunication, one is not to listen to his teachings or guidance on any other matter.

Therefore we are warning every Torah-observant community, those who are interested in the sustenance of Israel in its land through the Word of the Almighty, not to ask nor to accept any instruction or guidance from the aforementioned individual, and thus, not to rely on any of his books or articles. We also turn to all institutions and organizations, and to all who allow the teachings and guidance of the aforementioned written or verbal, and all those who give him validity and public power, not to share in any activity with at all, and not placing any stumbling block before the public, Heaven forbid.

With this, we call on those, who up until now have innocently followed his teaching and guidance, not to be discouraged, inasmuch as they have been innocently following, should adhere to other rabbis from now on. to be truly strengthened in the the path of the Almighty and in the Fear of Him.

We have come to this by the virtue of our obligation to remove a stumbling block from the path of our people and "...for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just do walk in them; but transgressors do stumble therein." (Hoshea 14:10) He who hears will hear, and he who does not will not. May it be the Will of the Holy One, Blessed Be He that He implant a pure spirit from on high upon the entire community of His people Israel, and speedily bring forth for us a complete redemption.

Israel contacted the International Committee of the Red Cross and suggested that it help transfer Israeli humanitarian aid to Syrian civilians

Acting under instructions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman, the MFA Deputy Director General for International Organizations and the United Nations Evyatar Manor contacted the International Committee of the Red Cross and suggested that Israel transfer humanitarian aid to Syria under Red Cross auspices. The Committee’s representatives in Israel stated that they will respond with an appropriate reply once they have examined the population’s needs and requirements.

FM Lieberman stated that “The Jewish State cannot sit by and do nothing while these atrocities are taking place in a neighboring state and people are losing their entire world. Even though Israel cannot intervene in events occurring in a country with which it does not have diplomatic relations, it is nevertheless our moral duty to extend humanitarian aid and inspire the world to put an end to the slaughter.”

Seriously. When bodies leave galuth (exile) behind, why can't most of us manage to leave our galuth mindset behind.

President Obama’s National Security Adviser Samantha Power will head the new White House Atrocities Prevention Board, which is tasked with formulating a response to so-called war crimes, crimes against humanity and mass atrocities.

Power helped to found a global military doctrine called Responsibility to Protect that was also divised by several controversial characters, including Palestinian legislator Hanan Ashrawi, a staunch denier of the Holocaust who long served as the deputy of late PLO leader Yasser Arafat.

Power once suggested investing “literally billions of dollars” in a “mammoth protection force” to intercede in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Notorious left-wing radical Tom Hayden recently wrote Power sees war as an “instrument for achieving her liberal, even radical, values.”

During Obama’s speech at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum on Monday, he announced the new Atrocities Prevention Board to be chaired by Power.

The inter-agency group is to meet on a monthly basis to determine methods to use in international conflict, including sanctions and civilian- as well as military-response-team training.

The board’s creation was the culmination of Power’s efforts that last year defined preventing atrocities as a “core national-security interest and a core moral responsibility of the United States.” The official White House statement marked the first time the U.S. government had made such a proclamation.

‘Mammoth protection force’ for Palestinians?
During a 2002 question and answer session with the University of California-Berkeley Institute of International Studies, Power was asked how the U.S. should respond if “one party or another” were “moving toward genocide” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

She replied: “What we need is a willingness to actually put something on the line in sort of helping the situation. And putting something on the line might mean alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import.”

Power was referring to pro-Israel groups using language some would consider anti-Semitic by implying such groups maintain inordinate power in U.S. politics.

She continued, “It may more crucially mean sacrificing — or investing, I think, more than sacrificing — literally billions of dollars not in servicing Israelis’, you know, military but actually in investing in the new state of Palestine, in investing billions of dollars it would probably take also to support I think what will have to be a mammoth protection force, not of the old, you know, Srebrenica kind or the Rwanda kind, but a meaningful military presence…”

The leaders will, of course, squander it all away, so their people will die, or eventually make they way into Jordan (which also belongs to the Jews) or Egypt (parts of which will also belong to the Jews).

The Erev Rav and stinking Christians won't be able to handle it, and run away.

Everyone else will have to pull their weight, pick up a gun, get a job, raise food, dig ditches, etc.

So, basically, President Obama sets Samantha Power in charge of throwing lots of money at the horribly corrupt, made-up nationality of Psuedostinians, assuming that it will eventually become it's own country, to provide them with "mammoth protection," supposed AGAINST the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF].

Power also appears to be buddies with Hanan Ashrawi, "a staunch denier of the Holocaust who long served as the deputy of late PLO leader Yasser Arafat."

The Christian, Hanan Ashrawi, also happens to be one the Wicked Witches (shown above)., and the nastiest and evilest witch of them all! If you think that Dorit Beinish and Hillary Clinton are bad, you ain't seen nuthin' till Hanan gets involved in the nastiness.

So, then, President Obama has the hutzpah to announce, at the Holocaust Museum, that his new "Atrocities Prevention Board, which is tasked with formulating a response to so-called war crimes, crimes against humanity and mass atrocities," is to be chaired by Power.

The implication here is clear, that Israel needs to be prevented from committing atrocities.

Yet, atrocities against the Jewish People at the hands of Arabs, is irrelevant, if not non-existent.

On this night, Jews in Israel and around the world celebrate Yom Ha'Atzma'uth, Israel's Day of Independence, when it what released from the "crimes against humanity and mass atrocities" of the British Mandate, and thrown into an attack on all sides by seven (was it more?) Arab Nations.

HaShem intervened, and Israel not only survived

President Obama, the Land of Israel is not for you, nor even the Israeli Government, to chop up and hand over chunks of it to Arabs, so that they can make, yet another (no. 24?) terrorist state.

Choosing to slap the entire Jewish People in the proverbial face, by accusing us of "crimes against humanity and mass atrocities" from the museum commemorating our survival from "crimes against humanity and mass atrocities" against us does not make one bit of difference.

Personally, I think that the Migron residents (as I've said a million times before this) will eventually perform some symbolic passive resistance, and then get up and leave, and accept whatever agreements their "holy state" offers them.

Also, for the record, any time an Israeli "judge" mentions "law," "legal," or "illegal," it's a joke. When they insist that Jews violate the Torah, then there's so-called "laws," are meaningless, at to any Jew who is committed to Torah and Misswoth.

Likewise, when Barry mentions "smartening up," I would include that to mean doing teshuvah. That's my take on it, anyway.

That all being said, Barry's logic regarding rockets, missiles, and war is disturbingly reasonable.

OUT OF ISRAEL - THE NEXT EXODUS

Not two months ago, the head of military intelligence for the IDF, Aviv Kochavi felt he had to tell the public a painful truth. Israel's enemies, presumably not Egypt or Jordan, had 200,000 missiles aimed at everywhere in the country. In the next war, unlike the disastrous war of ' 06 which saw literally, the entire north driven south by the missiles, this time there would be nowhere to run. Kochavi may have let the cat out of the bag but the entire General Staff knows the stats that conclude Israel is a goner. So scared is this settler-less staff that less than a month before, they let Hamas rain over 300 rockets in 4 days from Rishon Letzion east to Beersheva. The army, overwhelmed with fear that any retaliation might spark a full scale war it would lose, sat on its hands comatose.

There is a threat that Israel has let its enemies know that, so far, has kept the next war in check. In Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and Iran, they have decided not to order the missile war ignited because Israel has threatened a kamikaze nuclear ending. Any rational person knows that Damascus cannot be destroyed by an Israeli nuke. It would be the same as nuking yourself. Located just 10 miles from the Golan Heights, if you destroy Damascus, and no matter which way the wind was blowing, the Golan and upper Galilee would be irradiated within minutes. The same goes for Sidon, Tyre, and Gaza. If you start the next war, we will lose, but you're going down with us. We will nuke you to oblivion, so don't do anything stupid.

This is not the first time Israel threatened itself and its neighbors with instant annihilation. In 1973, after Defense Minister Moshe Dayan made a secret deal with his American counterpart, Henry Kissinger to give the Arab armies an unprepared, unmobilized Israel, the diplomacy backfired and Israel was on the verge of being overrun. Realizing the price of his own treachery, Dayan ordered the nuclear missiles readied for a doomsday scenario. The Syrians understood the threat and did not take over the Galilee when the path was open for its army. It claimed it overran supply lines, quite a trick over the 2 hour long Golan Heights, and parked its troops by the upper Jordan River.

Back then, the Assad regime would have been very upset to see Damascus turned to rubble. Today, with the same Assad gang teetering on the precipice of a coup, who knows? If they go, then all of Syria goes with them. Israel's kamikaze end times scenario may not be anything but a helpful tool to let the Alawites go in a burst of glory. All it will take is firing the over 100,000 missiles it has aimed at Israel to get the party going. And Assad has threatened to do just this. Soon after, we will discover if the Shi'tes of the suicide bombers really believe they get the everlasting rewards with which they brainwashed their recruits.

The General Staff knows that losing the next war will end in a Holocaust, much quicker but just as sadistic, as Arabs hunt down and murder the surviving and often huddled and befuddled, Jews. If anyone does survive this orgy of butchery, they will be shipped out of Israel. To hold back this inevitability, the General Staff voted to give Tel Aviv an overpriced anti-missile system, the Iron Dome. It can handle a few dozen missiles at $100,000 a pop 85% of the time. It would be close to useless protecting Tel Aviv from the tens of thousands of missiles expected in the next and final war. Nobody was fooled into a sense of security by the IDF spokesman who said, "The Iron Dome system is in the process of operational reception. (Huh, what's dat?-BC) Currently, the system is positioned in the greater Tel Aviv are as part of the operational plan."

Well, heck, if it's part of the operational plan, then nothing to worry about. We won't live like our terrorized neighbors fifteen miles to the south with their stress trauma disorders, and their crazy kids gone nuts with the fear that the next second could be their last. Not when we're part of the operational plan, and the IDF is planning a major portion of its energy to the vital task of removing Jews from their homes in Migron.

It's final now, Israel is heading into civil war. This is the last straw for the settlers who watched the IDF bulldoze Gaza and leave the Jews without money or a place to live. Israeli broadcaster Tamar Yonah was my guest recently and she boasted that the settlers provide the most officers proportionally to the IDF, and her son is one such officer, always ready to defend his nation. I lost my suave objectivity. "Are you nuts," I calmly observed? "Your son's army and, maybe even he, are bulldozing your neighbors and terrorizing Jews. Your son's duty is to refuse all orders until the 'evacuations' are stopped."

In its final depraved act in the final days of Israel, the Supreme Court ordered the IDF to bulldoze Migron, necessitating retraining the army to dump Jews on the street, bulldoze their houses, and escape the thousands of Jews seeking violent revenge. The Supreme Court jackass President, one Asher Grunis, may he be the first tortured then murdered in the upcoming violence, most likely by Arabs but who knows, maybe a Jew will get there first, noted in his ruling: "Migron residents may harbor justified resentment against the state and its authorities."

Then he cites his predecessor Dorit Beinish, who in 2007 accepted $20m from the Ford Foundation to hand around to far left, pro-Arab organizations which would normally not exist. "We can only wish that the residents of the outpost will come to their senses and agree to accept their duty not to appear as lawbreakers, and that they will settle any other site that the state deems it to allow them." Or translated from the original arrogant, just pick up and move and quit complaining.

I know the IDF's plans for Migron and I'll watch them do their psychotricks from a distance this time. While the country's enemies get more and more ready for the final confrontation with Israel, and with the IDF's general staff knowing that it has no options but the final option left, it will obey the Supreme Court and plan an all-out war against the settlers. The system of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) more or less worked because the Americans and Soviets didn't want their countries blown back to the Stone Age. In the dynamics of today's Middle East, Israel's kamikaze threat is working, badly, for now. I am sending this out just before the Passover, 2012. If the missile war could only be fought against Israel's leaders, then good riddance. But the naive, unbelieving, Israeli people are in for the Holocaust of their lives if they don't smarten up, possibly, in the nick of time.

Israeli Memorial Day Observed

In honor of the fallen Jewish soldiers who saved Jewish lives, and participated in defending the borders of the Land of Israel, here are my Top Ten Reasons For Joining the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF].

The IDF's face and function have changed drastically over the years. The IDF has gone from helping to establish Jewish (or potentially Jewish) sovereignty over Eretz Yisra'el and defending the Jewish People from annihilation countless times with the guidance of the Holy One, Blessed be he, to a body which now may knock on your door to throw you out of your home, destroy that home and the synagogue next door, hand Jewish lands over to goyim (non-Jews), and do so possibly even on Shabbath, calls for a close examination of the proper reasons for joining such an organization.

Some of you may think that this post denigrates the memories of fallen IDF soldiers.

God forbid!

This post does quite the opposite. In fact, it honors them by differentiating between the IDF in which they served and the IDF of today. This post does not come to criticize their individual soldiers, but rather their IDF leaders, including past and present Ministers of Defense and Chiefs of Staff, as well as the so-called "rabbis," who have instructed their soldier/talmidim to participate in heinous acts against their own people, and against their own God-given land, such as the ones listed above.

This post attempts to discover if their truly are any reasons left to enlist in what was one the most impressive armed forces in the world.

10. To get your machismo certification, including photos in uniform with a gun to post on your girlfriend's facebook page, then realize this is no joke, grow up, and plan to make permanent home in Israel,...with or without the girlfriend.

9. To get free transportation, while wearing your uniform.

8. To do the IDF's intensive, high school matriculation program (bagrut), because now that you're 18, you're finally ready to buckle down, and do it.

7. To get free vocational training and on the job experience, in auto or airplane mechanics, electronics, EMT/ER/paramedic, or truck driving, for free, and get on the job experience.

6. To get survivalist training in a special unit, learning about how to find water, identifying which plants are edible, building shelters, etc.

5. To get weapons and hand to hand combat training, in order to be able to defend yourself, and your family, and your town more effectively.

4. To set an example for other soldiers, and to be available when they come to ask you questions about Judaism, such as about prayer, tefillin, kashruth, and digging latrine outside of the camp, and . Just what Yossi Beilin and Shulamit Aloni ordered,...NOT!

3. To influence, and encourage other soldiers not to participate in throwing Jews out of their homes, and handing over pieces of our Homeland to goyim,and to introduce them to rabbis you can show them why the Torah forbids this.

2. To make a big deal about refusing orders, when commanded to violate the Torah. This may include throwing Jews out of their homes, violating Shabbath for the heck of it, listening to women sing and watching them dance, or taking orders from a goy.

1. To take pride in sitting in jail, having refused orders to violate the Torah (Rabbi Avraham Shapira ztz"l), and to fulfill one of the requirements for becoming a rabbi, to sit in jail for the sake of Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael (Rabbi Me'ir Kahane hy"d).

You should notice that "To fulfill the misswah of guarding the borders of Eretz Yisrael" is absent from this list. Although this misswah can be contributed to by joining the IDF, it is not the only way to fulfill this misswah.

You can volunteer to do guard duty in your town.

You can join community patrols, perhaps.

You can join volunteer organizations, such as Israel's Best Friend Canine Search & Rescue Unit.

The Mamlakhtim (religious, undying State loyalists) seem to think that joining the IDF is the only way to fulfill this misswah.

They are mistaken, of course.

Shomer Misnomer (Updated!)

Is it me, or are others a bit irritated by the misuse of Hebrew words in conversation? Here are a few. Please leave a comment with your pet peeve misuses.

Shomer (שומר) – to guard, to watch over

During a conversation, a woman would ask me if I'm "shomer."

"Shomer what?" I ask in response.

"You know, 'shomer.'"

"Shomer Shabbath? Shomer kashruth? Are you asking me if I would be an appropriate roommate for one of your friends?"

The woman storms away in a huff, mostly likely thinking how stupid I am, or how frei I am, for not knowing what "shomer" means.

What she most likely wanted to ask me was if I am shomer negi'ah, if I "guard over" who I touch, or who I allow to touch me. In other words, one who is shomer or shomeret negi'ah refrains from having physical contact with the opposite gender. Shemirat negi'ah would be the gerund form.

Gush (גוש) – block

"The Gush" referring to the area of Gush Etzion is just silly. Even sillier, and actually quite embarrassingly painful to hear, is the Har Etzion Yeshivah being referred to as "Yeshivat HaGush." The greater Tel-Aviv Area is referred to as Gush Dan. The towns in and around Shiloh are referred to as being in Gush Shiloh. The same goes for Gush Shchem. And, who can forget Gush Katif? This referred not to all of the Jewish towns in Gaza, but to those in the area of,…Katif.

Tahanah (תחנה) – station or stop, as in bus station or bus stop, as well as radio station

A lot of young men and women from abroad, studying for the year, or just visiting, will often say "The Tahanah" to refer to the Central Bus Station. Even though there are countless bus stops and transfer stations around town. I tend to give these young people a break when they apply this term in this way. After all, they are at least trying to increase their Hebrew vocabulary, and actually use it.

Moshav (מושב) – a town, traditionally cooperative, and related to agriculture

I was at THE Moshav, pronounced MO-shav, during Pesah. What? You don't know what the MO-shav is? There is, after all, ONE MO-shav,...Moshav Mevo Modi'in, sometimes referred to as the "Carlebach Moshav." Apparently, there are those Jews out there who are unaware of any other moshavim.

Schtiebelach (שטיבעלאך) – a multi-room, prayer and study facility, from the Yiddish word "schtieb" (room)

Silly Anglos (AND native Hebrew speakers) of Qatamon! I hate to disappoint you, but there is more than one "schtiebelach," in Jerusalem alone. Me'ah She'arim, Zichron Moshe, Kokhav HaTzafon, the GR"A Schul in Sha'arei Chesed, and Giv'ath Sha'ul (Zupnik). I believe that there is also one in Har-Nof.

Barak Tamir, a religious IDF officer, recently discovered that he might soon need to look for a 'kosher' stamp on his clothes and not just his food. Tamir, who purchased a T-Shirt from Israeli fashion brand Castro, found out after the fact that his shirt included a reprint of The Lord's Prayer, a well known Christian prayer.

Tamir purchased the shirt a few days before the Passover holiday and decided to wear his new purchase to holiday services at his local synagogue. Towards the end of the prayer service, an older man, who was sitting behind him, turned to him and asked him to stay at the synagogue after services to chat.

Native English-speakers in Israel MUST understand that it is our special role to point these things out to our non-English speaking friends, family, neighbors, and even total strangers. If you often wonder about what native English-speakers have to contribute to Am Yisra'el living in Eretz Yisra'el, this is it! It is at least one of the important things we can contribute. Most native Israelis would not know a Christian if he came up and smacked him in the face,...or worse,...if he came up and smiled at him! They have no clue at all just how sneaky these ovdei avodah zarah are by nature! Whereas, not only are we able to decipher such messages, otherwise hidden to our friends, family, neighbors, and strangers on the street, even those of us having the least knowledge of Christians from the U. S., Canada, the U. K., Australia, etc., has enough experience to detect these sneaky people a mile away! Kol HaKavod to whoever it was who pointed out the problem to Tamir.

Later, the man asked Tamir if he knew what the inscription on his shirt meant and claimed that he believed it was a Christian prayer. When the holiday was over Tamir looked into the matter and was astonished to discover that indeed, the inscription was that of The Lord's Prayer from the New Testament.

There's no such thing as a "new testament." YNET could have used the term "Christian texts."

"Personally I have no problem with anybody who chooses to wear whatever shirt they feel like wearing," Tamir wrote on his Facebook page.

I will assume that Tamir said such things because he wanted the story to be printed and/or his religious education neglected the teaching of [politically-incorrect] misswoth (Torah commandments) related to avodah zarah (forbidden practices) in Israel. or, who knows? Maybe YNET did some "creative editing" with Tamir's quotes.

"I do however have a problem with an Israeli brand which, through subliminal messaging, plants Christian messages in its clothing and makes people walk around with shirts with these inscriptions without them wishing to do so. A shirt that at first seems innocent becomes a shirt with a message," he added.

"I'm not even talking about the discomfort I felt when I realized what the shirt was about, and it is possible that I should have read the inscription in detail before I bought it, but the main question is why does an Israeli company choose to promote a clothing line using a Christian prayer?"

Castro allowed Tamir to exchange the shirt and added: "Castro designers draw their inspiration from various and diverse cultural content. The print on the shirt is the creation of the designer which was done as part of a gothic inspiration and not at all in its religious context."

Haveil Havalim #354: The Pesah 5772 Edition

It took me only four hours to clean for Pesah (Passover) this year, a lot longer than it should have. Having said that, knowing this information, how many of you would feel comfortable eating in my house?

What would you think if I told you that the halakhicly mandated portion of my Seder Pesah was was finished by 10:30 PM?

Better yet, what would you think, if I told you that I actually LIKE Pesah, experience its holiday joy, and look forward to it every year? (...and that's not just because I have it off from work)

You might think that I was a masochist, insane, or simply knew absolutely nothing about Judaism.

...perhaps, I am actually quite knowledgeable regarding the Laws of Pesah, and adhere to them with little difficulty.

I'll let you decide.

The ruling that qitniyoth (legumes & various seeds) are permissible for ALL Jews to eat during Pesah applies only in Eretz Yisra'el.

Although the term "blog," can have a wide range of definitions. The term "blog" is a contraction of "web log." Later on, the term "vlog," a contraction of video log or blog, was introduced.

I like to think that the primary purpose of blogs is disseminate information which the mainstream media, intentionally or unintentionally, does not.

This may include new items which are either missed or distorted, or simply opinions which are not "mainstream."

When a website's purpose is to post a collection of articles related to one or more particular categories, mostly from the mainstream media, and without any commentary on said articles, I do not see the point in including it in a "blog" carnival.

Gathering articles related to a particular topic, and posting them together in one place, may be helpful. After all, if someone else does that, then we don't have to. However, the lack of commentary disqualifies it, in my book, from being included in a collection of posts which do include commentary on current events.

When it is my turn to host the world's largest Jewish and Israel-related blog carnival, Haveil Havalim, I see no point in including posts from one website in particular, a website will not get any additional publicity on this blog, by the inclusion of a link to it, or even its name.

The webmaster in question, whether intentionally or not, owns a front for Haredi and Settler bashing. He gathers together articles from the mainstream media, with the occasional inclusion of an article from a Haredi-sympathetic website.

However, I would gladly include his submissions to Haveil Havalim, if he were to include his take on the media's presentation of current events, EVEN if I disagreed with it.

Until then, I am more like to include posts from David A M Wilensky, than from the webmaster alluded to above, even though we never agree on anything (with the possible exception of issues related to protecting the environment). At least David doesn't make any bones about who is he, what he is, and who or what he isn't.

Until the mysterious webmaster in question begins to interject some of himself into his website, I have no other choice but to assume he is no different than the Haredi and Settler-bashing, so-called "news" sources he gives a voice to.

And we all know what happened to the Jews who sought to become fine German citizens, except we're not allowed to talk about that.

Only recently, reports came out of Arabs sexually harassing leftist Arab-lovers in the Shomron. I guess they didn't love Arabs THAT much, after all.

So, whether Neturei Karta "got what was comin' to 'em," or not, is not for me to decide.

Yishma'el (Arabs) still hates Ya'aqov (Jews), even Neturei Karta.

I hope the "Religious Zionists" in Ofra, Eli, and Efrat who think that their Arabs are somehow different from other Arabs will learn from this, instead of wasting time throwing stones at the ultimate example of Jews putting hashqafah (pre-established points of view) ahead of halakhah (Jewish Law).

In other words, Neturei Karta is not so different than many of the Jews in Ofra, Eli, and Efrat.

Unfortunately, this blog post just flew over their heads.

Search continues for Shlomi Ariel – we need your help!

The following letter is being sent by “Mike” Yekutiel Ben Yaakov, Commander of the Israeli Fire Dept. Canine Search and Rescue unit, known as Y.A.L.A.M, kalbanim Yosh.:

HELP NEEDED IN THE SEARCH FOR SHLOMO ARIEL

Attached you will find an article and a notice about the search for Shlomo Ariel of Yehud, who went missing near the Koach Intersection, some 7 kilometers East of his home.

Shlomi was last seen, Friday, 11 days ago, walking in a disoriented fashion, without shoes and without a shirt or jacket in the general direction of Rantis, an Arab village on the border of the “Greenline.” He was last seen approximately 3 kilometers from the “border fence”, in a military firing-zone, after climbing into the zone from Highway 6, not far from the Koach Intersection.

Shortly after he was last spotted, there was a rain storm.

He was never seen again.

Our unit was called in to search for him as was the Oketz unit, police and many volunteers, family and friends. Unfortunately, due to the fact that Shlomi went missing in a military firing zone, much of the searches have been called off and on due to military training and firing.

We have arranged for a two day search this coming Friday and Shabbat, and the area will be open for searching without interruption from Friday morning until Sat night (See below for rabbinic ruling).

We have also arranged to fly in two rescue experts from Holland who will be aiding us in the search and who will be bringing two additional SAR and Cadaver dogs to join us and our 4 SAR dogs.

We desperately need additional volunteers when we sweep the area, so as to cover the entire firing zone if necessary, because we may not have another opportunity to shut down the firing zone, and because every day that passes, reduces the chances of finding Shlomie alive.

Various Torah scholars including Rabbi Dov Lior have ruled that we are allowed to search on Shabbat if there is any chance that Shlomie may still be alive.

If you are able to volunteer and to forward this letter to additional people who might be able to volunteer in the search efforts, please do so and let us know if you can come.

We will be meeting Friday morning at the Koach Hill Junction, near the Cola Forest, off of highway 444 at 5:00 AM sharp Friday morning, the intersection is between Shoham and Elad. Let us know in advance if you are coming and if you can stay all day until 1 hour before Shabbat. Also let us know if you can join us again at 5 AM on Shabbat morning, in the event that Shlomie is not found sooner.

I was incensed when I first saw the following event posted on Facebook:

מבצע ביעור חמוץ - Operation Bi'ur Hamutz

Last Monday, the Malha Mall was the scene of a deeply disturbing incident in which some 300 individuals attacked workers and customers of Arab origin, while calling out "death to Arabs"

That is not our Jerusalem, and we won't sit idly by upon such an attack against a group that constitutes an integral part of the city's social fabric and life.

There is now a petition demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice , but we don't believe that's enough.

We plan to meet this coming Wednesday at Malha Mall to counterbalance the sour taste left by that incident -- and distribute some sweetness (and sweets!) to the workers and to other visitors at one of the most notable centers of openness and coexistence in the city of Jerusalem. (continued below)

I was all ready to rant and rave and vomit anger all over this blog.

Then, I calmed down, and said to myself, "Wait a minute. Who's actually going to this?"

Now, that I have checked the guest list, I see that it is filled with lefties, mainly. At least I think. How דתיים בהר צופים (Religious Jews on Mt. Scopus) could be involved, I do not know. The guy running that page could be in the minority in views, or at the very least, completely ignorant of the various terror attacks carried out by Arab employees, including the 2002 Hebrew University Massacre on Mt. Scopus.

So, what's the big surprise about lefties going to an Arab love fest? One guy on the event page even mentioned the traditional Leftist custom of having people bussed in from Tel-Aviv. That is, after all, the only way the Left can achieve a decent attendance at any of its demonstrations in Jerusalem. It's just business as usual.

They will go hand out candy to the Yishma'eli (Arab) workers, who then will laugh to themselves at how stupid the mostly Askenazi and Ashkenazified Jews are. (The North African Jews and Jews from the East know first-hand just how insane this is).

They will banter back and forth in Arabic, making filthy comments about the women, of course, lie through their teeth a bit in Hebrew, then go home and give their wives and children a good laugh about the utterly insane Jews they saw at work that day. Their kids might even get some candy out of it, too.

I don't think anyone connected to this event would pay attention to anything I say. I will simply tell you that anyone even remotely connected to Torah (That is for whom I am bothering to write this response), and is also connected to this event is completely unaware that "Western-progressive-assimilationist sensibilities are not automatically compatible with Jewish ones." They are, in fact, quite distinct from one another.

After 2,000 years of living in exile, it is understandable that we, as a people, have gotten confused about this fact. I could say much more, but I do not think that there would any point to it. I would like to mention the misswath lo ta'aseh (negative Torah commandment) of "Lo Tehonem," and its various implications and applications (Deut. 7:2, Ramba"m Hil. AZ 10). I also wanted to mention several concepts related to a milhemeth misswah (obligatory war). But, what would be the point?

I knew that I would not bother mentioning the potential problem of mesirah. The concept is light years ahead of where most of the Jews attending Operation Bi'ur Hamutz are spiritually.

But, I HAD to write something, and לא תעמוד על דם רעך "not stand idly by." But, I also knew that what and how I said it would be crucial, if I were to succeed in reaching even one set of participants' ears.

A friend told me that he heard from Rabbi Ya'akov Haber at Yeshivat Darkei No'am, that there are three things which prevent a Jew from seeing the truth, when confronted with evidence of it:

I knew better than to address the first two in this post. It would have gone into one ear and out the other. I stuck with "Door No. 3," hoping that would make some kind of impression, in spite of 2,000 years of it.

The name of this event is a play on words -- "bi'ur hametz" is the process by which leavened products are removed from one's home and then burned ahead of Passover, which takes place next week. "Bi'ur hamutz" literally means "burning away the sourness," which is precisely what we seek to do with this small, "sweet" gesture.

Migron Residents, Are You Still Whining?

I am so sick of hearing about Migron. No, I do not wish any Jew to be thrown out, or even relocated, from his chosen home in Israel. But, these Mamlakhtim (undying State loyalists) can be SO frustrating. It almost makes me want to go up there, and start throwing stuff out of their homes myself, and then grab a sledge hammer from one of the Yassa"mniks (riot police), or whoever is executing the government's evil deeds these days!

Almost...

When are they going to wake finally, and realize that the Israeli government cares more about what the United States government, the United Nations (AKA: United Nothings), and the European Union than a Jew with a kippah on his head?!

It's as if you all think it's still May 16, 1948, ie. the day after Israeli Independence Day.

Wake up from your day dreams already! The State has changed tremendously since then, and in retrospect, it was never THAT friendly to religious Jews in the first place.

1. Just bring cake to the IDF soldiers "guarding" your town.

2. Follow orders in your own IDF unit to throw "extremists" (undying Torah loyalists) out of THEIR homes, and all will be well. Apparently, this time, all is not well.

Maybe this will be the kick in the pants they need to wake up. But I seriously doubt it.

I really do not blame you, though. You are simply going to have to accept the consequences of your actions, be that a comparable caravan down the road, or a luxury home in Adam. You may have to camp out for a while. But, don't worry. Spring has arrived, so you are not going to freeze.

Of course, you will also have to accept the consequences of your actions in HaOlam HaBa (The World To Come), when you are asked why you did not fight enough for Eretz Yisrael.

You will be asked why didn't you listen to your own Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah Kook ztz"l, who said to do EVERYTHING in order to delay and to prevent the evacuation of Jewish strongholds?

And, you will be asked why you call puppets and collaborators with the Eruv Rav controlled government "rabbis."

Opposition leader MK Tzipi Livni (Kadima) seems to be more grounded in reality than Migron residents.

We elected Netanyahu, and we never saw the promised repeal of the Oslo Accords.

Together, we elected Sharon, and we ended up with Peres.

And, yes, not so long ago, we elected Shamir, probably the least worst Israeli Prime Minister in history, and we ended up with his attendance at the Madrid Conference, the precursor to Oslo.

What makes you think that a Netanyahu government, which previously gave away Azza, Hevron, and Jericho, won't end up giving away your town from which YOU are known to have thrown out Jews, Jews who's only crime was the passing out invitations to a Hakhnasath Sefer Torah.

Time to stop repeating the same mistakes over again (and again, and again), and expecting different results.

I believe that Albert Einstein is credited with this definition of insanity.
