2014 Hair growth challenge!

Hello!!!

I know I've been MIA since 2011... I'm bacccck!!!

I'm finally ready to take my hair to the next level. For the next year and a half I will be on the following healthy hair regimen.

I will come on here and do a hair update every 3-7 months... I will purchase all of my conditioners on sale from ROSS, T J Max, and Marshall(I will keep you all up to date)

Wash and Deep Condition every 5-7 days with the occasional co-wash as needed

Wear a protective hairstyle for at least 5 days per week.(my current regimen consist of wash 'n go only)

Take the hairfinity hair and nails vitamins 7days per week. If I run out of vitamins I will take my one a day petit vitamin until I receive my new batch via mail.

Since becoming natural I have not been properly taking good care of my hair. I will do better from now on. I will have pictures below of products and my current length check.

I addition, I will be focusing on becoming fully vegan or vegetarian and continue with my daily exercises.

One problem area that truly annoy me... Would have to be "my edges!"😡 I've been having problems with thinning edges

Dealing With Dry Black, African American, and Afro Caribbean & Black Hair( For relax, natural, texlax, color treated, etc.)

"How to Combat Dryness"
One of the most challenging aspects of dealing
with our black hair is combating dryness. Black hair tends to be dry because of
its physical structure. Dry hair is brittle hair, and when hair is brittle it
breaks easily. However there are several steps that you can take to deal with
dry hair.

One of the most important things you can do to deal with dry
hair is to be sure you always wash your hair with a gentle shampoo. Avoid
shampoos made with the chemicals sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate,
ammonium lauryl sulfate, and ammonium laureth sulfate. These detergents are some
of the most commonly used cleansers in shampoos. However these ingredients strip
the hair of natural oils and leave the hair feeling dry and harder to manage. A
gentle moisturizing shampoo will cleanse your hair without stripping it of
natural oils. Always Deep Condition your hair after washing to soften your hair
and help make it more manageable.

Another important step to take in
dealing with dry hair is to seal in moisture after washing with a natural hair
oil or a natural pomade. A natural hair oil or pomade applied to the hair after
Moisturizing your hair ( With a water base
moisturizer- water will be listed as the 1st ingredient if it's truely a water
base moisturizer) will help seal moisture in the hair shaft which in
turn will help the hair retain more moisture in between washings.

A
third step you can take to deal with dry hair is to be wise in your use of
heated appliances such as pressing combs, flat irons, curling irons, blow
dryers, etc. These tools are fine to use in moderation, and can be a great help
when taking care of hair, but if they are used too frequently (like every day or
every other day) or at too high a level of heat, they will contribute to hair
dryness by causing the moisture in your hair to evaporate, leaving you with dry,
brittle hair. When using heated appliances, use a thermal protectant on your
hair (a.k.a- heat protectant) to protect your hair from the heat.

Note:
What you put inside of your body does affect your hair, skin and nails... I have

eye out on your diet, be sure to exercise. "Water is your Friend"

Healthy
hair is everybody's desire. It gives the greatest of looks adding to the
confidence of a person, while also giving a certain definition to the features
of every person. Taking care of your hair needs some extra care.
Here are few tips that will help you.

* Boil mustard oil. A regular massage of this oil
is helpful.

* Trim the hair the dead ends off/away

* Coconut oil mixed with lime- juice on the hair applied daily is
also good for hair health. (Be sure to check the Ph Level)

*Don't use any old rubber band as they tend
to break or split hair. Instead just use a scrunch or a fabric coated elastic
band.

* Another good way is to keep head of healthy hair is to apply
juice of green coriander leaves on the head.

* Apply olive oil or Musturd
Oil at bed time and wash off the hair next morning.

* Dont brush/comb wet hair too harshly because it's three times weaker and more likely to break off mid strand- Towel dry hair first, then gently detangles using a wide toothed comb.

* Rinsing your hair with lemon juice can bring life and shine back
to dull hair.

* If you have dandruff then apply a mixture of vinegar and
water on the scalp before you go to bed. Keep it overnight. Rinse your head with
vinegar water again in the morning. You will see the result within few
weeks.

* Massage of olive oil and almond oil on your scalp is a good cure
of dandruff.

* Another good way to get rid of dandruff is to soak ground
fenugreek seeds overnight in water and massage the paste on the head, leaving it
for a few minutes and then wash it.

* Mix Banana in Honey and apply on
hair for 30 - 40 min, and then wash it for that sheen in your hair.

*Always maintain a balanced diet with exercise for healthy hair. Drinking plenty
of water and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables is probably the best way
to achieving healthy hair.

*To help slow the process of your hair from becoming grey, you can mix Bhringraj (Eclipta elba), Amala, corals, iron and black sesame seeds. It is very useful and even stops the graying of hair.

* For a natural way to color your hair- try using tea( do a tea rinse) it will help reduce shedding while giving you a natural chemical free hint of color.

            *Home Remedies for Dandruff*
* One of the best ways to control dandruff is to
apply a mix of vinegar and water to the scalp.

* Apply warm coconut oil
on the scalp with a cotton ball. Leave it overnight. Apply the juice of a lemon
on the scalp the next morning and wash your hair as usual after 30
minutes.

*1 part sulfur powder, 2 parts surgical spirit, 1 part almond
oil and 4 parts rose water, or distilled water. Rub on your scalp.

* Mix
some olive oil and almond oil and massage into your scalp. Leave for 5 minutes
then rinse.

* Soak fenugreek (methi) seeds overnight and then grind to a
paste. Apply paste to the scalp, leave for 20-30 minutes and then wash hair as
usual.

Healthy Hair Tips for those who Run, Jog or walk as a for of exercise

If you are a runner, the main thing you need to worryabout is friction.

You want to avoid any opportunity for your ends to brush up against your shoulders, work out clothes or running jacket.

You also want to prevent your hair from whipping around as you run, as consistent exposure to wind, rain or sun can lead to split ends, tangles and an overall weakened hair shaft.

As an avid runner, here are a few tips that have helped me!

1. Coat The Hair First!

Keeping the hair well lubricated is an excellent way to protect the hair from sweat and prevent the hair shaft from becoming weak from exposure to wind, sun and friction.

Before heading out for your run, take a few moments to apply a light oil to the hair in sections.

2. Protect the Ends!

Instead of your standard ponytail (which does not offer much protection for the ends), try to keep your hair in a protective style to keep the hair and ends secure.

My default style is a loose bun. It keeps my hair out of my face and my ends from whipping around in the wind.

To create, just loosely gather the hair into a ponytail and secure with ponytail holder.

Twist the hair into a rope and tuck in the ends, securing with a few bobby pins. Add a head band to prevent bangs or flyaways from bothering you as you run.

A few other suggestions:

Two small pigtail buns
A french twist
1 or 2 single braids (with ends tucked in or wrapped in a bun)
1 or 2 French braids (with ends tucked in or wrapped in a bun)
Dry Wrap (covered with a scarf and runners hat (for winter) or baseball cap (for summer)
Pincurls (covered with a scarf and runners hat (for winter) or baseball cap (for summer).

3. Wash on Long Runs, Rinse on Short Runs!

Plan to wash and deep condition (always deep condition once a week) on "long run" days and to co-wash or rinse hair on "short run" days.

Since you will be most likely sweating more on long run, it makes sense to use this day to throughly wash and remove any dirt and product residue from the weak.

On short run days, try to simply rinse or co-wash the hair to remove sweat.

4. Use a Dry Shampoo and Set Your Hair

For non-rinse or wash days, use a dry shampoo before you run to help soak up moisture and odor.

Set your hair in a style that will dry in a cute 'do when you are finished working out (i.e. french braid, two single braids, bantu knots, etc).

5. Heatless Styles Only

If you are running or working out 3-5 times a week, try to air dry as often as possible. Wet wrapping, air drying in buns, braids, twists or satin rollers, will not only shave time off of your styling regimen, it will also keep the hair healthy and strong.

During the winter, it may be uncomfortable to dry overnight so set the styles and dry 50% -100% under a hood dryer.

Just try to avoid direct heat as much as possible!
