Hello, everyone!

Strolling around Porto, night or day, is always a historic sight in every respect. In the photo above, we see the Chapel of Santa Catarina with its 15,994 tiles, on the corner of the street that bears its name, built in the 18th century.

I took the opportunity to take photos at angles that favor drawing, so my sketchbook will come in handy later on. 😀

Passear no Porto, de noite ou de dia, é sempre uma visão histórica sob todos os aspectos. Na foto acima, vemos a Capela de Santa Catarina com seus 15.994 azulejos, na esquina da rua que leva seu nome, construída no século XVIII.

Aproveitei pra tirar fotos em ângulos que favorecem um desenho então mais á frente meu sketchbook terá grande serventia. 😀

The streets of the port have a good number of slopes, so you need courage, good sneakers and good weather to go up and down all the time. Even when the street “deceives” you and you think it's flat, you're certainly going up and down, but it's worth taking your time and looking at the old buildings; some in near-decay and others well cared for, like the commercial building in the photo above.

As ruas do porto tem uma boa distribuição de ladeiras, é preciso ânimo, bons tênis e tempo bom pra subir e descer o tempo todo. Mesmo quando a rua nos "engana" e achamos que é plana com certeza estamos subindo e descendo, mas vale a pena andar com calma e observar as construçõesw antigas; algumas em quase decadência e outras bem cuidadas como o prédio comercial da foto acima.

And speaking of old buildings, I couldn't miss a visit to Café Majestic!

Designed by architect José Pinto de Oliveira, it is still one of the greatest symbols of Art Nouveau in Porto. The building, inaugurated in 1916, stands at the intersection of Santa Catarina and Passos Manuel streets.

The façade impresses with its marble adorned with sinuous shapes and elements inspired by nature, a typical example of the decorative style of the time. Three large doors stand out at the front of the building, with a rectangular section of glass above them. At the top, a pediment with the café's initials adds a special touch, flanked by sculptures of children in cheerful poses, inviting passers-by to enter.

Inside, the space is faithful to the Art Nouveau language. The wooden frames with elegant curves and the decorative details are a delight for the eyes. The walls, lined with large aged mirrors and interspersed with worked metal chandeliers, create a play of reflections that makes the room seem larger than it really is.

Stucco elements, such as human faces, delicate figures and floral ornaments, reinforce the space's fluid and sensual charm. Two rows of leather seats, which replace the old red velvet ones, add depth and a touch of sophisticated comfort.

The details in the mirror frames, the soft light from the chandeliers, the marble finishes and the smiling sculptures that adorn the ceiling and walls contribute to a cozy and elegant atmosphere. The Café Majestic conveys luxury and well-being and is the perfect place to relax and have a quiet chat.

E falando em construção antiga não poderia faltar uma ida ao Café Majestic!

Projetado pelo arquiteto José Pinto de Oliveira, é até hoje um dos maiores símbolos da Arte Nova no Porto. O prédio, inaugurado em 1916, fica no cruzamento das ruas Santa Catarina e Passos Manuel.

A fachada impressiona com seu mármore adornado por formas sinuosas e elementos inspirados na natureza, um exemplo típico do estilo decorativo da época. Três grandes portas chamam atenção na frente do edifício, com uma seção retangular de vidro logo acima. No topo, um frontão com as iniciais do café dá um toque especial, ladeado por esculturas de crianças em poses alegres, convidando quem passa a entrar.

Por dentro, o espaço segue fiel à linguagem da Arte Nova. As molduras em madeira com curvas elegantes e os detalhes decorativos são um deleite para os olhos. As paredes, revestidas por grandes espelhos envelhecidos e intercaladas com lustres de metal trabalhado, criam um jogo de reflexos que faz o ambiente parecer maior do que realmente é.

Elementos em estuque, como rostos humanos, figuras delicadas e ornamentos florais, reforçam o charme fluido e sensual do espaço. Duas fileiras de bancos em couro, que substituem os antigos de veludo vermelho, dão profundidade e um toque de conforto sofisticado.

Os detalhes nos caixilhos dos espelhos, a luz suave dos lustres, os acabamentos em mármore e as esculturas sorridentes que adornam o teto e as paredes contribuem para uma atmosfera acolhedora e elegante. O Café Majestic transmite luxo e bem-estar, sendo o lugar perfeito para relaxar e bater um papo tranquilo.

A stroll along the harbor quay is also interesting, and you can rent one of these gondolas for a short ride.

Uma voltinha pelo cais do porto também é interessante, e é possível alugar uma dessas gôndolas pra um breve passeio.

PASSEANDO Á NOITE NO PORTO (STROLLING AROUND PORTO AT NIGHT)

For some reason I don't know, I have a lot of sympathy for the area around the Clérigos Tower; I'm easy to spot there!

And the very day I arrived in Porto there was a light and color show in the Tower, the Spiritus, lasting about half an hour. A spectacle of colors dancing to the sound of classical music of the highest quality.

Tourist stuff, I know, but who am I? A Lusitanian Brazilian who goes to Portugal from time to time and every time is enchanted by something, I would say almost everything and always, since every time I visit this tower and also other places that I know a lot about (mainly castles) but that I make a point of revisiting.

Por algum motivo que desconheço, tenho uma simpatia ampla pelo entorno da Torre dos Clérigos; sou figurinha fácil de ser achada ali!

E logo no dia que cheguei ao Porto havia uma exibição de luzes e cores na Torre, a Spiritus, com cerca de meia hora de duração. Um espetáculo de cores bailando ao som de músicas clássicas da melhor qualidade.

Coisa de turista, eu sei, mas quem sou eu? Uma brasileira lusitana que de vez em quando vai a Portugal e todas as vezes se encanta com alguma coisa, eu diria que com quase tudo e sempre, já que todas as vezes visito essa torre e também outros lugares que conheço bastante (principalmente castelos) mas que faço questão de rever.

Of course, the Manteigaria store - the one famous for its warm pastéis de nata - never escapes my radar and as it's right on the street behind the Tower, I always go there to enjoy some pastries. Ah, the photos of the pastries are in the previous post, the one that looks like a “tasting” post 😂

Claro que a loja Manteigaria - aquela famosa por seus pastéis de nata quentinhos - nunca escapa de meu radar e como fica bem na rua atrás da Torre, sempre vou lá me deliciar com uns pastéis. Ah, a fotos dos pastéis está no post anterior, aquele que parace post de "degustação" 😂

Finally, to help with my digestion, I wandered around the central streets of the city, where I'm also easy to spot, mainly visiting art stores.

But this time, what enchanted me even more were the Christmas lights on practically every street in the city, each street with a different ornament, with old buildings completely filled with colored lights, Christmas colors.

I love Christmas. It's a magical time, a time of smelling food, of childhood, of memories....

I'd forgotten what it was like to spend most of November and December in Portugal, with the cold freezing more and more....

I enjoyed this trip! It was tiring for other reasons, but the weather was great!

Por fim, pra ajudar na digestão, andei um pouco pelas ruas centrais da cidade onde também sou figurinha fácil de ser achada, principalmente visitando lojas de material artístico.

Mas, desta vez, o que me encantou ainda mais foi as luzes natalinas presentes em práticamente todas as ruas da cidade, cada rua com um enfeite diferente, com prédios antigos completamente lotados de luzes coloridas, de cores natalinas.

Adoro o Natal. Época mágica, época de cheiros de comidas, de infância, de memórias, de lembranças....

já tinha me esquecido de como era passar Novembro e Dezembro quase todo em Portugal, com o frio congelando mais e mais....

Gostei dessa viagem! Foi cansativa por outros motivos, mas em questão de clima foi ótima!

AN "ALMOST" CHRISTMAS TRIP TO PORTUGAL (Uma "quase" viagem natalina a Portugal) - Part 1

Hello, lovely people!

Yes, I disappeared for almost two months and I didn't even tell you, did I? But it was all very fast: from the decision to travel, to buying the tickets, to the trip itself, to arriving at the final destination, which was Portugal... I couldn't even think straight and organize my ideas!!! 😕

So, I apologize for my absence and for not coming here earlier to tell you what was going on.

I had to accompany my husband on this trip and he, in turn, also had doubts about whether or not he was going to travel and when he made the decision we had to race against time because we wanted to be back before Christmas.

We spent almost two months in Portugal, specifically in Porto, and this time we didn't go sightseeing. So as not to say that it was strictly a work trip, we managed to go to Valença, in the north of Portugal, to Fátima and finally to Vigo, in Spain. The rest of the time we stayed in Porto, with him working and me accompanying him.

I also had the opportunity to give a Bookbinding Workshop in the town of Matosinhos, very close to Porto, where I teached how to make a handmade book with a Christmas theme - it was a magnificent experience!

The trip both out and back was great from the moment we got on the TAP plane, very comfortable, but on the way back to Rio the delay of almost 12 hours was very tiring, but this is common when traveling by TAP.

We had dinner on the plane, with a choice of three menus, wine and other drinks but what really attracks me about this type of airline ticket is the fact that we can actually lie down without feeling like a lemon being squeezed, since the seat can be tilted to 180º.

Olá, gente linda!

Pois é, sumi um pouco por quase 2 meses e nem avisei, né? Mas foi tudo muito rápido: da decisão de viajar, da compra de passagens, da viagem em si, da chegada ao destino final que foi Portugal... nem consegui pensar direito e organizar minhas ideias!! 😕

Então, peço mil desculpas pela ausência e por não ter vindo aqui antes contar o que estava acontecendo.

Precisei acompanhar meu marido nessa viagem e ele, por sua vez, também tinha dúvidas se ia ou não viajar e quando tomou a decisão precisamos correr contra o tempo porque queríamos estar de volta antes do Natal.

Foram quase 2 meses em Portugal, especificamente no Porto, e desta vez não foi pra fazer turismo. Pra não dizer que foi uma viagem estritamente de trabalho, conseguimos ir a Valença, no norte de Portugal, a Fátima e por último a Vigo, na Espanha. O resto do tempo ficamos no Porto, ele trabalhando e eu o acompanhando.

Também tive a oportunidade de dar um Workshop de Encadernação Artesanal na cidade de Matosinhos, bem perto do Porto, onde mostrei como fazer um livro artesanal com tema natalino, foi uma experiência magnífica!

A viagem tanto de ida quanto de volta foi ótima a partir do momento que entramos no avião da TAP, bem confortável, mas na vinda aqui pro Rio o atraso de quase 12 horas foi bem cansativo, mas isso é comum acontecer quando se viaja pela TAP.

Jantamos no avião, com escolha de 3 cardápios, vinho e outras bebidas á vontade. Mas o que me atrai mesmo neste tipo de passagem aérea é o fato de podermos realmente deitar sem se sentir um limão sendo espremido, já que o assento pode ficar a 180º.

And what about a trip that wasn't touristy? Few photos of places and lots of photos of food!😂

Eating in Portugal is always an event! There are so many restaurants and patisseries, it's hard to choose a place and when you do, the waiter comes over with the menu to make it difficult to choose again; some of the food is really good, you want to eat it all and when you get to the desserts, the decision is very complicated.

Now imagine all this at the most beautiful time of the year, Christmas! It seems that the sweets are even better, more colorful, more delicious, the cold climate (for me, who lives in a hot city, it's divine), the streets decorated and crowded with people, tourists from all over the world.....ah, how I miss it there!

Of all the fruits that Portugal has, the ones I like the most are chestnuts: raw, roasted, boiled, I like them any way!

I also love cherries, but at Christmas there are no cherries in Portugal...oddly enough, we have cherries here in Rio, from Chile, and they're delicious.

E o que dizer de uma viagem que não foi turística? Poucas fotos de lugares e muitas de comida!😂

Comer em Portugal é sempre um acontecimento! Muitos restaurantes e confeitarias, difícil escolher o lugar e quando escolhemos lá vem o garçom com o cardápio pra dificultar novamente uma escolha; algumas comidas são realmente ótimas, dá vontade de comer todas e quando se chega na parte das sobremesas a decisão complica bastante.

Agora, imagine tudo isso na época mais bonita do ano, a natalina! Parece que os doces ficam ainda melhores, mais coloridos, mais gostosos, o clima frio (pra mim que moro numa cidade quente é divino), as ruas enfeitadas e apinhadas de gente, de turistas de todo mundo.....ah, que saudades eu tenho de lá!

De todos os frutos que Portugal tem, os que mais gosto são as castanhas: cruas, assadas, cozidas, gosto delas de todo jeito!

Também amo cerejas mas no Natal não há cerejas em Portugal...por incrível que pareça temos cerejas aqui no Rio, vindas do Chile, e são deliciosas.

I also like the famous Portuguese sardines but it seems that this year we didn't have any luck, they were crumbly, strange... we only ate them on 3 occasions but then gave up because they really weren't good.

Também gosto das famosas sardinhas portuguesas mas parece que neste ano não demos sorte, estavam esfarinhadas, estranhas...comemos apenas em 3 oportunidades mas depois desistimos porque realmente não estavam boas.

These dumplings are made from Portuguese sausages with chicken meat, the "alheiras"; delicious in several restaurants but I think the best ones are made by the “Encaixados” restaurant at 14 Conde de Vizela Street, just behind the Clérigos Tower.

Estes bolinhos são de embutidos portugueses feitos com carne de frangos, as alheiras; deliciosos em vários restaurantes mas acho que os melhores são feitos pelo restaurante "Encaixados" que fica na Rua Conde de Vizela 14, logo atrás da Torre dos Clérigos.

Nesse restaurante a comida é "gourmet", e os aperitivos também, como estes bolinhos de bacalhau.

At this restaurant, the food is "gourmet" and so are the appetizers, like these codfish cakes.

Another restaurant I like a lot is “Escondidinho” in the center of Porto, at 144 Passos Manuel Street, with traditional Portuguese dishes including the crockery and the atmosphere itself. It got two Michelin stars at once, and deservedly so.

Outro restaurante que gosto bastante é o "Escondidinho" no centro do Porto, á Rua de Passos Manuel 144, com pratos tradicionais portugueses incluindo louças e o ambiente em si. Tem 2 estrelas Michelin adquiridas de uma só vez, e merecidas.

But for those who want more affordable, simpler restaurants but with plenty of typical dishes, they can try one of the hundreds of tascas (taverns) and for a fixed and very affordable price can opt for the menu of the day which usually comes with a basket of bread, olives and pâtés, soup, the dish of the day which can be meat, chicken or fish, dessert and coffee!

Prices range from 6 to 12 euros per person and it's worth it!

Mas pra quem quer restaurantes mais em conta, mais simples, mas com fartura e pratos típicos, pode experimentar uma das centenas de tascas (tabernas) e por um preço fixo e bem acessível pode optar pelo menu do dia que normalmente vem com cesta de pães, azeitonas e patês, sopa, prato do dia que pode ser carne, frango ou peixe, sobremesa e café!

Os preços variam de 6 a 12 Euros por pessoa e vale a pena!

Sweets are sweets! It takes a lot of effort to find one that isn't good in Portugal!😄

If you go to Porto, you can try the traditional Cafeteria Majestic, with its Belle Époque décor, mirrors, chandeliers, wooden interior and antique marble-topped tables. What did I eat there? Christmas French toast!

Doces são doces! Achar um que não seja bom, em Portugal, é preciso muito esforço!😄

Quem vai ao Porto pode experimentar a tradicional Cafeteria Majestic, com sua decoração da Belle Époque, seus espelhos, candelabros, interior todos em madeira e mesinhas com tampo em mármore antigo. O que eu comi lá? Rabanadas!

I think this post is just to talk about sweets, so the also traditional Pastéis de Natas are present in every shop window, in every café and restaurant and I simply LOVE IT!!!

Acho que este post é só pra falar de doces mesmo, então os também tradicionais Pastéis de Natas estão presentes em todas as vitrines, em todas as cafeterias e restaurantes e eu simplesmemte ADORO!!

Tempos atrás fiz 2 vídeos onde mostrei como lidar com perspectivas em desenhos, de um jeito fácil de entender e bem simples porque muitas pessoas acham difícil esse assunto mas sempre me pedem para explicar.

Neste 3º vídeo vou mostrar perspectiva com 3 pontos de fuga e o pré-requisito para entende-la bem é que você tenha assistido aos vídeos anteriores onde mostrei perspectiva com 1 e 2 pontos de fuga.

Conhecimento é uma escada e precisamos começar a subir no primeiro degrau, sem pular, construindo esse conhecimento.

A perspectiva de 3 pontos também é simples, especialmente se você já sabe as anteriores, e ela torna nossos desenhos mais ricos em detalhes, interessantes para quem olha e para quem desenha também.

In this 3rd video I will show perspective with 3 vanishing points and the prerequisite to understand it well is that you have watched the previous videos where I showed perspective with 1 and 2 vanishing points.

Almanaquinhos (Tiny almanacs)

Estúdio de encadernação que tem almanaques também tem almanaquinhos!

São uma fofura, feitos com a mesma técnica dos almanaques maiores, só que bem pequenos, cabem na palma da mão!

São uma delícia de fazer, vira um bom vício, mas demoram quase o mesmo tempo dos almanaques maiores por causa do tempo de secagem da lombada e também porque não dá pra fazer apenas um; quando dei por mim já estava fazendo usn 15 ao mesmo tempo!

A bookbinding studio that has almanacs also has tiny almanacs!

They're cute, with the same technique as the larger almanacs, only very small, they fit in the palm of your hand!

They are a delight to make, it becomes a good addiction, but they take almost as long as the larger almanacs because of the drying time of the spine and also because you can't make just one; before I knew it I was already making 15 at the same time!

Usei vários tecidos pra fazer as capas e não fiz 2 iguais, todos tem capas diferentes. Isso é uma das características da encadernação artesanal, fazer livros únicos, afinal não somos máquinas pra fazer centenas de livros iguais.

I used various fabrics to make the covers and I didn't make two of them the same, they all have different covers. This is one of the characteristics of handmade bookbinding, making unique books, after all, we're not machines for making hundreds of the same books.

Vamos às especificações:

- Medidas aproximadas: 7cm de largura x 8cm de comprimento (quando fechado);

- Peso aproximado: 88 gramas;

- Miolo: 130 folhas (260 páginas) de papel offset, sem pauta, 120g/m²;

- Capa macia em tecido por fora e revestida internamente com papel de Scrapbooking;

- Guardas em papel de Scrapbooking;

- Possui 1 marcador de página em fita de cetim;

Ah, but you may be wondering what to do with such a small book!

Give it as a present! I guarantee that the person will love receiving such a cute book.

What's more, the size is misleading because you think there's so little space and that it will run out quickly if you start writing in it...... wrong!

These little books are small but contain lots of pages and even for those who like to draw, they're very practical to carry around, any pocket will do! 😂

Eu fiquei com 3 livros destes, pretendo desenhar em preto e branco e também usar lápis de cor em alguns desenhos.

I've got three of these books, and I intend to draw in black and white and also use colored pencils for some of the drawings.
