Reflection:

The film starts with a few friends and classmates at the college: Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, who chose to construct a personal computer, creating an operating system that would allow this. Meanwhile, Bill Gates and his colleagues (who were also university students at the moment) created an operating system and chose to introduce it for their pcs to a business that required it, and the business adopted it.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak succeeded in transcending the world of business and formed a computer company called "Apple," which became famous for its computers and rapidly started to make big profits. Apple continued to develop, but Steve Jobs ' personality started to alter, eventually causing his friend to leave the business and placed it under Pepsi-Cola's former president. Jobs were looking for ways to continue producing innovative products. So he visited the Xerox Research Center in California where Jobs would purchase the new Apple graphics scheme to understand the thoughts that were going on there.

Meanwhile, Gates and his two companions decided to create Microsoft and traveled to IBM to sell an operating system that could handle their computers, the problem is they hadn't created a system, so they decided to purchase it from someone who had already created it and sell it to IBM that way.

Apple continued to operate on its new computers; Bill Gates is hearing about this and chooses to go to the centers in Apple to know more about the new system being developed. Gates started to work for Apple, but also started gathering data on Apple computers and building his own laptop on that grounds. Jobs suspect, but Gates had already introduced his new enhanced laptop on the market when he decided to do something; it was too late to do anything about it.

In the film, we can perceive what sort of an individual is Steve Jobs and Bill Gates well before their prosperity. These two people shares numerous things for all intents and purpose, one of which is their excitement and that them two are unbelievable daring people. Before the accomplishment of their separate organizations they have experience such a significant number of disappointments, judgment, and sadness but since of these attributes they saw these things not as a deterrent but rather a test for them to develop. Much the same as what Thomas Edison stated, "I have not fizzled. I have quite recently discovered 10,000 different ways that won't work". Envision if we all have this sort of mindset, the world's prosperity will be more than what we appreciate at the present.

With the accomplishment of the Apple 1, Steve Jobs together with his group wound up effective and acclaimed. The Apple PC ruled and changed the innovation and the depiction of things to come world. Truly, the world changed and furthermore Steve Jobs, he wound up well known and effective however totally an alternate man. He ended up pleased, simple go fortunate and he turned out to be so loaded with himself. In spite of these changes, the Apple kept on developing, up to the here and now they command, and they wound up one of the images of extravagance, style and achievement. William Henry Gates III, broadly known as Bill Gates then again had an alternate viewpoint throughout everyday life. Background
Point-of-sale (POS) is the place where a retail transaction is completed. It is the point at which a customer makes a payment to the merchant in exchange for goods or services. At the point of sale the retailer would calculate the amount owed by the customer and provide options for the customer to make payment. The merchant will also normally issue a receipt for the transaction. The goods sold file and the inventory file must also be updated.

Task
Create a GUI application in Java that executes a point-of-sale transaction. You can choose either a fast food chain or a retail store.
• Products must be displayed on the GUI application
• The program must summarize all the products selected/ordered.
• The program must compute and display the total amount/price
• The program must accept the cash tendered from the customer and must compute the change
• The program must have a quantity feature.
• Pictures of the products are optional (but will earn you additional points).
• These are just minimal requirements, you can add up other features.

Note:
• You must have different products or items to display on the POS program.
• Make a name of your store.
• To guide you on the design, you can search in Google Image for POS program examples.
• You can add/use any JAVA GUI components (buttons, combobox, listbox, radiobutton, checkbox, textarea, etc.) you believe that is necessary for the POS program.

Case Study 1

THE WICKED WORM THAT WASN'T

Millions of Windows users braced themselves for the much-feared Conficker worm, worried that the exploit would wreak havoc on their systems on April 1.

Conficker was expected to shut down security services, block computers from connecting to security Web sites, and download a Trojan. It was also expected to reach out to other infected computers via peer-to-peer networking and include a list of 50,000 different domains, of which 500 would be contacted by the infected computer on April 1 to receive updated copies or other malware or instructions.

Then nothing happened. Was it all an elaborate April Fools' joke?

The Conficker worm may have failed to cause the digital pandemonium that some may have feared, but that doesn't mean we are in the clear. Just because the worm failed to create much of a stir on the day it was set to activate doesn't mean it won't wake up and act later.

Today, as on any day, PC users should make sure their systems are patched and running the latest security software. People should patch their systems to close the hole in Windows that Conficker exploits and should update their antivirus software. The major antivirus vendors all have free Conficker removal tools.

The worm also can spread via network shares and removable storage devices like USB thumb drives. So people are advised to use strong passwords when sharing files on a network and to download a patch Microsoft released to address the Autorun feature problem in Windows that makes using removable storage risky.

So, in the end, was the hype a good thing or a bad thing?

Romanian hacker charged with breaching NASA computers

BUCHAREST -- A young Romanian has been charged with hacking into NASA computers and causing more than 1.5 million dollars (1.1 million euros) of damage for the US space agency, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Victor Faur, 26, from the western town of Arad, was also accused of breaking into the computers of the US navy and the Department of Energy between November 2005 and September 2006, a statement said.

Romanian police alerted NASA in July last year that its servers had been breached by unknown people based in Romania.

An ensuing probe, launched jointly by Romanian police and the FBI, led to Faur.

NASA had to rebuild its systems and scientists and engineers had to manually communicate with spacecraft, resulting in huge losses for NASA.

Faur, meanwhile, said in television interviews that his action was aimed at "proving that several computers are vulnerable to attack," and underlined that he had not tried to make any "material gains."

"I had neither modified nor erased the files, nor destroyed the communications systems," said Faur, who was formally put under investigation in December and has been barred from leaving the country.

An earlier indictment by the US Attorney's Office charges Faur with leading a hacking group called the "WhiteHat Team," which broke into the systems because of their reputation of being among the most secure in the world.

The case begins with the indictment of a programmer for manslaughter for writing faulty codes that resulted in the death of a robot operator. Slowly, over the course of many articles, you are introduced to several factors within the corporation that contributed to the accident. Read this case and answer the following questions.

a. Responsibility for an accident is rarely clearly defined and able to be traced to one or two individuals or causes. In this fictitious case, it is clear that a larger number of people share responsibility for the accident. Identify all the people who you think were at least partially responsible for the death of Bart Matthews, and why you think so?

b. Imagine that you are the leader of a task force assigned to correct the problems uncovered by this accident. Develop your “top-ten” list of actions that need to be taken to avoid future problems. What process would you use to identify the most critical actions?

c. If you were in Ms. Yardley’s position, what would you have done when Rays Jonhson told you to fake the test result? How would you justify your decision?
