College football, more than any other sport, is driven by perception: Year after year, debate after debate, the discussion inevitably devolves into parsing the collective wisdom as reflected by polls, selection committees, and talking heads. And as anyone who has ever required a reputation can tell you, perception is difficult to change. Teams at the top tend to stay there in the hive mind despite temporary setbacks, or to return quickly if they suffer an extended lapse. Meanwhile, other programs can go years or even decades without moving the needle, and usually return promptly to obscurity after the rare occasions in which they do.

Earlier this week, I examined the teams perceived as serious championship contenders in 2015 to determine which front-runners best fit the template established by past champs. Today, I’m shifting the focus a little further down the food chain, to a handful of teams that have the best chance of shifting perceptions this season after suffering through extended bouts of mediocrity or worse. None of the teams listed below are aspiring for a playoff bid just yet, but relative to how they’ve been viewed over the past few seasons, they’re in the best position to take a great leap forward this year.

Video of the aftermath of a pool party in Mckinney, Texas has surfaced a day after one of the officers displayed excessively rough behavior, raising concerns with the police department.

According to Gawker, neighbors called 911 after complaining about teens who allegedly didn't have credentials to swim in the community pool. The pool party, consisting of black and white teens, came to an end Friday when the officers crashed the party and forced several teens to the ground after telling them to leave the premises.

With a few officers being understanding with the teens, one officer was not. The unnamed officer not only screamed at teens, but he also grabbed a 14-year-old, pushed her to the ground and placed his knees into her back as she tried to follow his orders and walk away from the incident.

At the 3:40 mark, the girl's cries are painfully heard as the rest of the teens tried to tell the officer to stop. The cop then pulls out what appears to be a gun and points it at the children.

"I personally told you to get on the ground and stay," the cop identified as Corporal Eric Casebolt, said to one of the teens. "What did you do when I walked away? You did what everybody else did, and what everybody else did was illegal. You did it, and you got caught. Now, you're sitting here, paying for it."

Brandon Books, the teen who uploaded the video, says the incident was definitely race related. Brooks, who is white, says he was ignored as the cops targeted the young black teenagers at the party. "I think a bunch of white parents were angry that a bunch of black kids who don't live in the neighborhood were in the pool," he said. "Everyone who was getting put on the ground was black, Mexican, Arabic. [The cop] didn't even look at me. It was kind of like I was invisible."

Mckinney Police released a statement following the release of the video, informing everyone that Casebolt has been placed on suspension.

"McKinney Police later learned of a video that was taken at the scene by an unknown party. This video has raised concerns that are being investigated by the McKinney Police Department. At this time, one of the responding officers has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation."

Teens also stated that adults spewed racist remarks at them, telling the teens to "return to Section 8 housing."

Police were wearing riot gear at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday night as social media buzzed with unconfirmed reports of group fights, bottles being thrown and tear gas being deployed outside the Summer Jam 2015 concert

Police wouldn't say how many people were arrested at the event, as photos and video on Twitter and Instagram showed large crowds, trash-strewn streets and barricades overturned in the stadium's parking lot. Officers donned riot gear and held pepper spray as they stood in groups near the stadium's entrance. Police helicopters flew overhead and at least one armored riot vehicle was spotted.

"Major disturbance at Summer Jam -- fans vs State Police," @ChrisFHJordan tweeted.

The unrest apparently began when some ticket-holders were denied entry. Concertgoers told NBC 4 New York that people who legally bought tickets that cost hundreds of dollars were still turned away and told to leave. Hot 97, a radio station, said they'll refund tickets for those people.

In a statement New Jersey State Police said crowds were attempting to illegally enter the sold out concert by climbing over fences and forcing their way through security personnel. The gates to the stadium were shut and troopers were called in to help maintain order, police said.

Artists Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Big Sean were all scheduled to play at the event, billed as "the hottest hip hop event of the year."

Depp and his wife, Amber Heard, are accused of breaking import laws by not declaring Yorkshire Terriers Boo and Pistol to customs when they flew in to Queensland by private jet last month.

Australia has strict quarantine laws to prevent the accidental import of animal disease and infections.

Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce said the laws applied to everyone.

He said Boo and Pistol had been "snuck in" to Australia and were discovered when they were taken to a dog groomer.

"Mr Depp has to either take his dogs back to California or we're going to have to euthanise them," he told reporters on Thursday.

"He's now got about 50 hours left to remove the dogs. He can put them on the same charter jet he flew out on and fly back out of our nation."

Dogs brought into Australia must be law be quarantined for a minimum of 10 days after arrival, longer if they are suspected of carrying any diseases or tics.

An online petition to save the "cute dogs" had received more than 1,300 signatories by midday on Thursday.

"Have a heart Barnaby! Don't kill these cute puppies," it appealed. There was no immediate comment from Depp or Heard.

But Mr Joyce said: "If we start letting movie stars even though they've been the 'sexiest man alive' twice to come into our nation, then why don't we just break the laws for everybody?

"It's time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States."

Depp is in Australia filming the fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The Associated Press quoted his spokesman Brett Chant as saying the dogs were in "home quarantine", but he did not specify where.

WOMAN CONFESSED TO TAMPERING WITH FIANCE'S KAYAK

A woman accused of killing her fiance while out paddling on the Hudson River admitted tampering with his kayak and later confessed "it felt good knowing he would die," a prosecutor said Wednesday.

Angelika Graswald, 35, has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Vincent Viafore in choppy, chilly water on the evening of April 19. Police say he died 50 miles north of New York City near Bannerman Island, a scenic ruin near the east shore where the longtime U.S. resident from Latvia volunteered as a gardener.

Viafore, 46, was not wearing a life jacket and his body hasn't been found.

Assistant District Attorney Julie Mohl said at a bail hearing Wednesday that Graswald felt trapped and stood to benefit by $250,000 from life insurance policies. Mohl did not detail how Graswald tampered with her fiance's kayak but said it filled with water and capsized. Viafore held onto his boat for 5 to 10 minutes, but Graswald called 911 some 20 minutes after his kayak capsized. Witnesses say she intentionally capsized her own kayak, Mohl said.

"She felt trapped and it was her only way out," Mohl said.

Graswald was rescued by another boater and treated for hypothermia.

She later told investigators that she felt relief and "it felt good knowing he would die," Mohl said.

The judge set bail for Graswald, who appeared in court in shackles and an orange jumpsuit, at $3 million cash.

After the hearing, defense attorney Richard Portale noted the language barrier between Graswald and investigators. He said he would look into whether her statements were voluntary.

"I'm skeptical of the statements," he said.

Since her arrest almost two weeks ago, those who know Graswald have been trying to square the fun-loving woman they knew with the killer described by authorities.

"The bubbly, bouncy little ballerina girl had a dark side," said Mike Colvin, a disc jockey in Poughkeepsie she lived with from November 2008 to June 2010. Still, he never saw Graswald act in a way that suggested violence.

Graswald could walk into a room full of strangers and know everyone's name by the time she left, Colvin said. But he said he also had authority issues and could make unwise snap decisions when angry. She had run through two marriages and a string of jobs by her mid-30s. The impulsiveness apparently contributed to her checkered job history at restaurants and other businesses.

"They would have staff meetings, and she would just lose it, and eventually she'd have to be let go," Colvin said. "This happened more than once. Not a big fan of authority."

Graswald and Viafore appeared to be a happy couple.

Images posted online show an active, affectionate pair spending time outdoors, particularly on the water, and a message about their plans to be married at a spot on the Baltic Sea. Sean Von Clauss, a professional musician from Boston who had known Viafore since boyhood, recalls how the couple would affectionately slow dance when he performed "Shama Lama Ding Dong."

"They were always in love — singing, dancing and holding. They were always together," Von Clauss said. "He was thrilled that he found his soul mate."

According to an inside source, the Kardashian camp is not enthusiastic about any kind of relationship between Tyga and Kylie. While they don’t think the youngest heir to the Kardashian fame throne is out of control, apparently Mama Jenner has some serious concerns. “A lot of Tyga’s friends are enablers,” the source told People. “That makes her mom most nervous. She doesn’t want Kylie getting off track.”

AMTRAK TRAIN CRASHES IN PHILADELPHIA, INJURING SEVERAL

PHILADELPHIA — An Amtrak train headed to New York City derailed and crashed in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, and several people appeared to be injured.

Train 188, a Northeast Regional, had left Washington, D.C., earlier Tuesday. The front of the train was going into a turn when it shook.

An Associated Press employee, Paul Cheung, was on the train and said it appeared it went off the tracks. He said he was fortunate to be at the back of the train and the front of it "looks pretty bad."

Police swarming around the crash site, in Port Richmond, a working-class area, told people to get back, away from the train. They pleaded with curious onlookers: "Do NOT go to scene of derailment. Please allow 1st responders room to work."

Former Congressman Patrick Murphy was on the train and said he helped people. He tweeted photos of firefighters helping people in the wreckage.

"Pray for those injured," he said.

The cause of the crash was unknown. Amtrak said it was aware of the derailment and would provide updates later. The National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday night it was gathering information about the derailment.

Another Amtrak train crashed on Sunday. That train, bound for New Orleans, struck a flatbed truck at a railway crossing in Amite, killing the truck's driver and injuring two people on the train.

America has spoken, loud and clear. They want Harriet Tubman to be the face of our $20 bill.

Right now, our currency is very male and very white. A grassroots campaign called Women on 20s hopes to change that, and started an online petition to replace Andrew Jackson on the twenty.

Women on 20s held two rounds of voting. After the first round, there were four finalists: Tubman, Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks. All extraordinary women, not just in their time, but in history.

In the end: Harriet Tubman won with 118,328 votes. Second place was Roosevelt with 111,227.

What does it all mean?

It doesn't take an "Act of Congress" - it just requires the Secretary of the Treasury to make the change.

That man is Jack Lew, appointed by President Obama, and confirmed by the Senate in 2013.

Women on 20s hopes the more than 600,000 voters in the online campaign will convince the President to use his influence and make it happen.

NASA'S 10-ENGINE AIRCRAFT TAKES OFF LIKE A HELICOPTER, FLIES LIKE A PLANE

NASA’s new battery-powered, 10-engine aircraft takes off, hovers, and lands like a helicopter -- yet flies efficiently like a plane. It shifts between vertical and forward flight while up in the air. Called Greased Lightning or GL-10, a prototype with a 3-meter (10-foot) wingspan just completed its first few successful flights with midair conversions this spring at Fort A.P. Hill, a military base in Virginia.

"During the flight tests we successfully transitioned from hover to wing-borne flight like a conventional airplane then back to hover again," Bill Fredericks of NASA’s Langley Research Center says in a news release. So far, they’ve done this on five flights.

In its latest version, the remotely piloted plane has eight electric motors on its wings and two electric motors on the tail. The four on each of the wings are given the same command, as are the two on the tail. So, according to Greased Lightning’s primary pilot, Zack Johns, it flies like a three-engine plane from a control perspective. It weighs up to 28 kilograms (62 pounds) and is much quieter than mowing the lawn with a powered motor.

The team has built 12 prototypes using materials ranging from foam to fiberglass to carbon fiber. “Each prototype helped us answer technical questions while keeping costs down,” David North of NASA's Langley says. “We did lose some of the early prototypes to 'hard landings' as we learned how to configure the flight control system. But we discovered something from each loss and were able to keep moving forward."

There are a wide range of things Greased Lightning could be really good for, especially if it can be made into an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). "It could be used for small package delivery or vertical take-off and landing, long endurance surveillance for agriculture, mapping and other applications,” Fredericks adds. “A scaled up version -- much larger than what we are testing now -- would make also a great one to four person size personal air vehicle."

Now that they’ve shown how Greased Lightning can basically launch anywhere a 'copter can, the team’s next goal is to demonstrate that their concept is four times more aerodynamically efficient in cruise than a helicopter.

TURK WINS DEFAULT MOTION AGAINST CASH MONEY RECORDS

A judge has sided with Turk in his lawsuit against Cash Money Records. After suing the label for unpaid money owed to him, Turk filed a default motion last month when Cash Money missed the extended deadline to respond to the litigation.

A U.S. District Court judge in Louisiana has granted Turk the default motion. The judge will now decide how much money Cash Money and its publishing wing Money Mack will have to pay Turk for past royalties and other profits.

Turk originally asked for at least $1.3 million when he filed the suit earlier this year. He also requested for Cash Money to provide an accurate accounting of revenue made from his musical recordings for the company.

The second person in France to receive a much-hyped new-generation artificial heart has died eight months after receiving the transplant, biomedical firm Carmat said Tuesday.

The 69-year-old man, who wished to remain anonymous, was terminally ill when he received the experimental heart that was seen as a long-term solution for patients with end-stage heart failure.

Carmat, which designed what it calls the world's most-advanced artificial heart, said the patient was admitted to hospital on Friday with "circulatory collapse".

A medical team noted the heart was not functioning correctly and transplanted a new device, however the patient died on Saturday from post-operative complications.

Artificial hearts have been in use for many years as a temporary fix for patients with chronic heart problems.

However Carmat hopes to provide a longer-term solution to tens of thousands who suffer from heart disease -- the world's leading cause of death -- and are unable to receive a transplant.

The device, a self-contained unit implanted in a patient's chest, is a mix of synthetic materials and animal tissue, and seeks to mimic the form and function of an actual human heart.

The artificial heart uses soft biomaterials intended to lessen the risk of blood clots and rejection by the immune system. It is powered by a belt of lithium batteries.

Carmat's first trial of the device on a 76-year-old man ended March 2 with the patient's death after two and a half months.

The second patient said in an interview with French media a month ago that he had "recovered" to the point of going on bike rides.

Nearly 100,000 people in Europe and the United States are in need of a heart transplant, according to Carmat, but only about 4,000 hearts become available for transplant.

The French firm's trial was to involve four people. A third patient was confirmed to have received their artificial heart last week.

The first phase of the trial will be considered a success if patients survive for a month after the transplant. Carmat will then carry out a second phase of clinical trials which will involve 20 patients.
