The DTC GQTV1 EGO – A Phone Within Reach

Everyone’s looking for the most affordable phone with the most features money can buy. If smartphones are not your type, you can always go for the DTC EGO.

The DTC Ego is a different model from the DTC Stark and DTC GE1. Unlike the first two, the DTC EGO is a QWERTY phone, priced higher than the other models but still within an affordable range.

Unboxing

The DTC EGO comes in a quaint purple box that’s like 6 to 7 inches in length and width. It comes with the following contents:

- 2 pieces of keypad covers
- Warranty cards
- Manual

What’s noticeable in the contents are the keypad covers. Basically, the keypad cover of the phone is interchangeable. The default cover is silver, and the two other covers are red and black. Other units will come with different colours like pink and purple.

The design and feel

There’s nothing new about the size and design of the phone. It’s basically similar to other QWERTY handsets from other brands. Don’t be mislead by the directional pad. It looks like a trackball, but it isn’t.

The rounded shape of the phone does not feel awkward at all. In fact, the phone is easy on the grip, although the texture can be slippery. The 2”2 screen is a bit small for my taste, but the UI interface is satisfactory. The text and icons are visible on the screen, and the display is just average.
The keys are responsive and even though they are small, it doesn’t feel awkward when you’re typing, unlike other QWERTY phones. The only pet peeve I have with the phone is that it makes a lot of TICKETY TACK sound when you use the keypad. Quite frankly, I prefer physical QWERTY over TOUCH QWERTY any day, and the DTC EGO is a good way to get yourself started with any QWERTY phone.

The volume of the phone is more than satisfactory. Audio quality from the earphones is average, so if you’re particular about how your music should sound, you may end up disappointed.

The TV

With the 2”2 screen, you can watch the TV application that’s installed on the DTC EGO. Reception and sound quality is dependent on the signal the antenna is getting, so if you’re in the rural areas, don’t expect too much.

Verdict

Priced at Php 2,888, the DTC EGO is a good buy if you’re looking for a multi-functional phone.

Fiesta: The Cagayan de Oro Way

The holidays are done yet the fiesta spirit of Cagayan de Oro is still here. Hangover anyone? Well in a good way. I have never seen CDO celebrating fiesta this way. And I must say this has been the most fabulous, most intricate and merriest. Indeed CDO is back on its feet after last year's tragedy.

If you have not seen the festivities, it is best that you get to visit the city next year. I am certain we have more under our sleeves for the coming years. Experience what our golden friendship is about and what Cagayan de Oro has to offer. So here are some snapshots of what transpired over the past few days courtesy of Niccu Bagonoc.

These are just some of the events that were lined up during the Kagay-an Festival. Not to mention malls were on sale, buy one take one tickets on cinemas, the carnival, concerts, celebrities and much more. I am definitely looking forward to next year's fiesta as early as now.

Oh My Baby

If you followed me on Instagram (jurinsthea) you may have noticed days ago that my mom and I went shopping for baby stuffs. As much as possible we want to be prepared most especially that my mom is due on October. With that said, I was ecstatic to accompany her to buy those items. Man I am just so excited.

A little background on my mom's pregnancy. First would be the age difference of the baby and mine would be 27 years old and my younger brother 19 years old. I am pretty sure we would be pampering and spoiling that kid to bits. And second it is a boy. I was hoping for a girl though but nonetheless we are grateful for another man in the house. At least I am the only princess.

More than anything, what the family is concerned about would be a safe delivery for my mother. This would be totally different because of my mom's age. And she might be undergoing a Cesarean delivery which my mom is quite terrified to know. Good thing the baby, according to my mom, behaves so well inside her. He is one kind soul and we can't wait to embrace him soon.

Here are some of the items we got. Although I know that it is still not enough. We need to buy cribs, strollers, more clothes, toys and more baby items for him. Whatever we miss, do state it in the comment section below.

I am not sure if we are halfway there or not but at least we got the essentials covered. This only means that we are just so excited to have a new addition to the family. So to our baby boy, come quick and don't give mama a hard time.

Side A and Freestyle Concert

Looks like Cagayan de Oro City is indeed a city in bloom, in blossom and in boom as it slowly welcomes its Kagay-an Festival 2012. Various activities are being housed by the city and one of which is my most awaited concert of Side A and Freestyle. Who knew I would be able to see these bands in one concert stage. And with that fact alone, this is one event I do not want to miss.

My boyfriend and I bought VIP tickets since we want to be close. And with a concert like this, who wouldn't? Lucky for us, the concert was two days before our monthsary so this is one unique way of celebrating it.

Allow me to bomb you with photos of the event. Most of the pictures were taken by my boyfriend.

It was a fun filled night. I am so glad I was able to see Side A and Freestyle LIVE. That VIP ticket is well worth it. Singing their top hits made me scream in awe. It is always good to hear songs live eh? I do hope they would come back in the city for more shows.

Play and Cosplay

Learning new things is what makes life exciting. Doing random things is what makes life more enjoyable. And knowing how short life may be here for us, it is always best to maximize it with great and new things. And that is exactly what I did. I ventured into photography.

We often find ourselves afraid of doing new things. We like to dwell in our comfort zones and hold up to it long. Little did we know that because of such fear and apprehension, we are not doing ourselves a favor. We don't grow and even more we do not experience the exciting things life could possibly give us. We fear we might get hurt in the process, we fear we may not be incapable of doing it and the list goes on.

This holds true for me. For the longest time, I am reserved and close. I tend not to incorporate new things in my life since I do not want to fail and all the more I am afraid. For the longest time I have wanted to try photography. But it seems this was not the one for me. I have my camera and lens ready and browse through tutorials but still I was not able to apply it. All because of that fear. It seems I am not good in taking pictures. My images are dull compared to others. And my crave for photography is shelved out.

Then, an opportunity came. My friends were invited to cosplay at SM. This was the time when the Avengers are shown in cinemas. Then I told myself, why won't I try. Got my camera and my 50mm lens with me without the fear and apprehension and voila, it was one of the best afternoon of my life.

I know I still have a long way to go. But at least I am making the step. These was made more fun when you have crazy friends around.

Another disaster has struck the country putting Manila and Luzon to deep waters. This feels like Sendong all over again to me. Seeing its devastation, the families that were affected, houses that were flooded really is surreal and alarming.

Now it is our time to help our fellow Filipinos up north. They have extended much during our Sendong tragedy and it is but right that we also do the same for them now. You and I can help Save Manila.

A Testimony

There is no denying that I owe my education to a scholarship grant I got when I was in college. Without it, who knows what I am doing now. Because of it, I was able to have more than a bachelors degree. Because of it, I was able to help my parents now raise the family. Because of it, I have a good job. And because of it, I am who I am right now.

A few weeks back, I was invited to speak for our college's scholar students. I was asked to share my testimony being a scholar back then. I feel like I was taken back in time as to how my journey started. And more than anything, I just want to share this one not only to the present scholars that were there but also to others who might bump into this blog and have the time to read it. This is what I presented.

I do hope these slides can summarize and suffice my journey as a scholar in a nutshell. I know it might not be much but more or less it boils to that.

It is always a great way to gather with office mates and friends especially when celebrating a special occasion. Human as we are, we need the love of friends and family around us all the time. They make life simpler and more beautiful in spite of the hardships and bruises life may bring upon us.

When we talk about birthdays, what is always clear to me were the big ones we celebrated when I was a kid. But as I noticed when we grow up, our birthday guests are slowly trimmed down to the people that matters to us most. And I guess that is the essence of it all, celebrating your birthday with people that are important to you. It may not be as lavish as the ones we know when we were children but nonetheless it is more intimate and more personal in approach. Hence, it is always an honor to be invited to someone's birthday.

A new Cagayan de Oro based e-magazine is brewing in town. I must say, I am beyond proud as a fellow Kagay-anon looking at their great and awesome maiden issue output. Cheers to each of the individual involved in here especially to my friends. I am referring to CGY.

"CGY (Collective Group for the Youth) is a homegrown online publication spawned by a group of dedicated young Kagay-anons with the hopes to brandish the beautiful things their city has to offer. It serves as a virtual menagerie for Cagayan de Oro’s budding talents, artists, musicians as well as for all types of creative ventures in business or otherwise. A bi-monthly compilation of the city’s most relevant events and personalities, CGY aims to renew the Kagay-anon’s appreciation for its own brand of art and culture. It is a movement that seeks to breathe life into the city’s rustic charms, a celebration of its people, places and bounty."

Their maiden issue has Ms. Stephanie Sol in the cover. Even more you would be delighted with the content as it features other successful Kagay-anons and rising ones too.
