Life of Pi is so much more than people read into it. It is a vast canvas of a book, but essentially is a book about FAITH. The protagonist makes his position clear - does he not state at the outset his distaste for agnosticism, preferring the faith of even an atheist ("there IS no God") to the fence sitting of an agnostic.
The entire fable leads us through a magic garden, forcing us to take turns appropriate to our beliefs. Each turn represents a particular belief or article of faith - hence every reader's different take on every scene.
Pulling together all these skeins of faith into a cohesive climax on the shores of the endless Pacific Ocean is the writer's way of letting us in on the secret - its all about what you believe.

Karthik, all that effort at self-effacement is unwarranted. Hey! Just own it up man, if 'morons 'visit this blog, it's because of you. But then, you are a bit like VVSLaxman. One 281 and a permanent, if small, set of devotees hoping against hope that the man would turn up again in full regal form - which, ofcourse, never happens :-(. Still, that small set of devotees dont drop off, dont they - you know why, because even if half-of-that-form is repeated even once again, thats good enough for a lifetime, thats why. Hey! I dont care if I sound like a smitten teenager, which I wouldnt be even if I were half-my-age, but your writing is that good, man, that good.

Thank you, prash :) That's just Karthik pretending to be a gentleman in public. The inside story is that I get covertly and overtly "encouraged" to post... And much to the horror of the real readers of this blog (everyone one of whom dashes their head against the screen when they see one more post from the pretender) I've complied, as long as the writing doesn't interfere too much with my true calling - watching movies. Once he goes back to posting, as he keeps promising, I look forward to sitting back and enjoying posts about libraries in Salem myself. We all wait with bated breath for ya, Karthik.
