If you have ethnic hair and is looking to grow your hair here is 5 things you can do today to grow longer, healthier hair. Before I start let me say the best thing is to do your research on hair care, hair care products and join every hair forum you can.

When I started my hair growth journey I was shocked to discover how much I did not know about hair care and especially ethnic hair care. I did not know that the average hair growth rate was half inch per month. I realized that over a period of three years I should have 18 inches in hair length and I did not even have 10 inches. That told me that my hair has been growing at a snails pace. So I started doing my research and following the steps in this article and my hair grow over 1 inch in one months time.

Hair Growth With Eating Healthy

Eating healthy is not as hard as it sounds. However, if you want to grow your hair you will find a way. You can start by drinking 8 glasses of water per day this does not mean to drink 8 glasses of water at one time. Space it throughout the day start with 1 bottle in the morning, then afternoon then evening and at night.

If you are drinking one bottle a day then just work your way up to two bottles and so on. Start taking vitamins supplements like GNC women's mega vitamins or the hair, nails and skin vitamins. Eat vegetables, peanuts, chicken and fish, whole wheat bread instead of white and don't forget about fruits.

Growing Your Hair With Pre-Shampoo Treatments

You can prepare you hair for the harsh chemicals in your shampoos or in the water you use to
wash you hair with. Doing a pre condition before you wash your hair can be very helpful in keeping your hair moist and soft. The best product to use for pre shampoo conditioners is organic shea butter or coconut oil. You want to put a plastic bag over you head and let sit 30 minutes to 1 hour. You can even add a hot towel over the bag for extra absorption for about 30 minutes.

Shampoo Your Hair With Natural Products

There are a lot of shampoos on the market that claims to be good for your hair but most of them have harsh chemicals such as sodium laurel sulfates or sodium laureth sulfates that has been said to dry your hair out. You can find natural hair shampoos at your local health store or online. If you cannot get away from these harsh chemicals then make sure to only wash one time. Take some shampoo and put on finger tips and only wash your scalp not your hair. Make sure to rinse your hair with water 1 to 2 minutes before shampooing then wash your scalp. You can also add some essential oil to your shampoo like olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, for extra moisture.

Deep Conditioning For Faster Hair Growth

Deep conditioning you hair with a good conditioner that has natural oils is the key. When you deep condition your hair you want to use a plastic bag sort of like a shower cap. You can pick them up from your local beauty supply shop or sally's. If you sit under a hooded dryer that works best because the heat will allow the oils in the conditioner to enter you hair shaft to do the most good. If you do not have a hooded dryer then let the conditioner sit on your hair for at least 30 to 45 minutes.

Deep conditioning will make your hair stronger and soft. Make sure to buy a protein conditioner and a moisturizing conditioner. Protein is what ethnic hair is make of and it is also what keeps your hair strong and prevents breakage. You want to have proper balance of protein and moisture, one week you do a protein conditioner and the next week do a moisture conditioner. You can also just do an egg treatment as your protein conditioner. If you like you can add the egg to your moisturizing conditioner or you can just beat an egg up and put it on your hair. Leave on for about 20 minutes with a bag then follow up with your moisture conditioner.

When choosing a conditioner stay away from any conditioners that contains mineral oil, petroleum, or lanolin. These ingredients will seal your hair and block any type of nutrients from entering the hair shafts and eventually drying out your hair and causing breakage or split ends.

Healthy Hair Growth Secrets Hair Steps

The one thing you can do to feed you hair and promote hair grow it to moisturize and seal your hair with natural oils. Every day you should you moisturize with a daily moisturizer and seal with an natural oil such as coconut oil or jojoba oils. After adding the daily moisturizer take one or two drops of oil in the palm of your hands, rub hands together then apply to hair root to tip. Take one more drop and just focus on the ends of you hair. You don't want to over saturate your hair just enough to keep moistened. Also, try to wear your hair in protective styles at least 90% of the time. This helps you retain length by keeping your ends moist which prevents them from drying out and becoming damage. I know what your thinking, why grow hair just to keep it covered up? Unlocking those secrets could have potential well beyond vanity, leading to a better understanding of the aging process at the cellular level.

Whites tend to gray fastest followed by our Asian brothers and sisters then blacks. Then you ask why the President Obama is only 47 and his temples turned instantly white. Well maybe from one of the highest stressful jobs on the planet piled on with a heap of stress.

Scientists even hope that by identifying the mechanism that kills hardy hair-pigment cells and leaves us awash in gray, they can develop new treatments for shutting down more troublesome cells — like those that cause skin cancer.

This really interest me because I have had at least one grey hair since I was in high school and now I seem to be getting grey in the temple area. I once read of a little home remedy that will not only stop the grey but will turn your grey hair back to black. Have not tried it yet but you can go here for grey hair secrets revealed.

One of the many mysteries of gray-hair research is why some people have salt-and-pepper hair. “If it was purely based on one’s antioxidant system or the ability to handle oxidative stress, then you still have to explain why some follicles can produce perfectly pigmented hairs in a sea of white hairs,” said Desmond J. Tobin, associate dean of research and knowledge transfer at the University of Bradford.

Let me tell you the doctors are practicing medicine on this one and they will come up with some drug that stops grey hair but has a thousand and one side effects.

<fieldset class="zemanta-related"><legend class="zemanta-related-title">Related articles by Zemanta</legend>

Hearst Capitalizes On Beauty Advertising Market With RealBeauty.com (mediabistro.com)

</fieldset>

Olive Oil Natural Beauty Treatment

Image via Wikipedia
Olive oil is a great natural way to great looking skin and hair. Here is a great little post I found on yahoo answers. A friend of mine told me that she use to put lemon juice and olive oil on her face and it made her skin glow, soft and very smooth.

Here are the notes from that forum post. I have not tried any of these methods yet but I intend to. I am always looking for ways to improve my skin naturally. As with all products and methods if something is not working immediately stop the doing that method. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients don't take a chance on it and if you are under a doctors care consult with him before using or trying anything.

Here is the link to that forum post:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080227074051AAlaZM7

To receive the full benefit of olive oil, don't limit it to external care. Take a cue from the Mediterranean culture... eat it!

Incorporate this healthy oil regularly into your diet. You’ll enhance your health while improving the appearance of your skin.

Olive oil is high in antioxidants, including vitamin E. These nutritional powerhouses protect against age-accelerating free radicals. The oil of this miraculous fruit will guard your body and your skin... from the inside out.

So the next time you enjoy a healthy salad, drizzle on some olive oil. Later, rub it on your skin! You'll double the antioxidant, anti-aging protection.

When purchasing, opt for Extra Virgin olive oil, preferably organic. This is the least processed and retains the highest nutrient value.

Olive Oil Skin Care... Straight From the Bottle!
You can concoct simple skin care recipes right in your kitchen. Try these mini beauty treatments...

Bath: For a moisturizing, aromatic soak, add about ¼ cup olive oil and several drops of essential oil to your bathwater. I like lavender oil for relaxation just before bedtime. (As with any bath oil, be careful as the tub may become slippery.)

Skin: Gently massage a small amount of olive oil anywhere your skin is dry: face, elbows, feet, or legs.

Hands: Whip up a quick sugar scrub for rough, dry hands. Combine two tablespoons of oil with two tablespoons of sugar. Rub on until sugar begins to dissolve. Rinse with warm water. Voila! Silky-smooth hands.

Feet: Apply a liberal amount of oil to feet at bedtime. Cover with cotton socks. Not sexy... but oh-so-soft feet in the morning! The magic works for hands, too. Cover with white cotton gloves (hmm, even less sexy).

Face: Create a moisturizing facial mask with olive oil, honey, and an egg yolk. Beat until well blended and apply to face... then relax! Leave on for 15 minutes; rinse with warm water.

Nails: Warm a small dish of olive oil (not too hot) with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Soak nails for 5- 10 minutes. This softens cuticles while it strengthens nails.

Hair: For a simple oil treatment, warm several tablespoons of olive oil (again, not hot). Rub into scalp and hair. Cover with a shower cap or plastic baggie. Leave on for 20-30 minutes.

For extra conditioning, mix an egg yolk with the olive oil... but do not warm. This is great for dry hair and split ends. It may even heal dandruff. Shampoo twice after this treatment or you'll smell like raw egg!

Lips: Alleviate chapped lips with straight olive oil. Dab on lips... especially helpful at bedtime.

Okay, your body is covered with olive oil! That’s as natural as you can get. If you’d prefer to purchase ready made olive oil skin products, you’re in luck. Manufacturers have rediscovered the power of this traditional beauty treasure.

There are plenty of olive oil skin care products on the market... from olive oil soap to olive oil skin cream to olive oil hair care. The moisturizing benefits of this anti-oxidant rich oil are no longer just an ancient beauty secret!

If you are looking for natural methods be sure to do your research to make sure the method is right for you.

<fieldset class="zemanta-related"><legend class="zemanta-related-title">Related articles by Zemanta</legend>

Healthy Cooking Tip: Olive Oil Shelf Life (fitsugar.com)

Natural Hair Conditioner Recipe (deadseastorebyrv.blogspot.com)

</fieldset>

Ethnic Hair - Rod Set Day After

Image via Wikipedia

With my ethnic hair I have never been able to comb my hair wet. Last night I was able to comb through my hair with no hair loss. Today my hair is very soft and very shiny and it feels great.
My hair is permed relaxed I just got a fresh perm July and my niece actually ran the perm all the way through which is not good because we all know perm breaks down your natural curl pattern and can be very damaging. Most videos is on natural hair very little on relaxed permed healthy hair care.

I will post videos as soon as I learn how to work this video camera. I am very happy with my results from last night rod set.

Step By Step Rod Set:

Pre-conditions with an egg conditioner

Sections out hair and then section that part out

Then added little water with hands (did not have spray bottle) very little water damp

Then I added my egg (2 eggs beaten very well) saturated my hair roots and ends 10 min

Then I rinsed out in show and used my shampoo with a teaspoon of vinegar in it.

Then saturated with good condition to comb through hair wide comb gently 10 min

Then I rinsed that out and applied my Olive Oil deep Conditioner Replenishing Pac

(covered with plastic cap and under dryer for 20 min)

Then I rinsed that out and used leave-in condition and setting lotion.

(i was not sure about the leave in conditioner & using the setting lotion together so I only used the condition and setting lotion on some and not all)

I was very happy with the results it is bouncy and my curls even move when I turn my head. I have to buy different size roller and do smaller in the top I only have the orange rollers because I did not want a tight curl. When it falls it will be just perfect now I am wondering what oil spray to put on it for a daily moisture. Although, I think it did help me grow out my hair for some reason my hair started to break. It became very dry and brittle and I was only using that product my guess is that I needed more moisture and protein.

I added apple cider vinegar to my shampoo just a teaspoon and worked the shampoo in my hair. I then followed up with a home made conditioner. I boiled rosemary, basil and sage then strained it let stand until it reached room temperature and put it in the refrigerator until it cooled. My only mistake was not letting it stay in my hair for at least 15 minutes.

Well tonight after three days of going through you tube videos I finally decided what style I was going to use. My goal is to keep heat out of my hair as long as possible. I think I may go with the transition but not a big chop that is way to drastic for me and I don't think it is necessary. I will just cut my perm hair off as my new growth comes in if possible.

So tonight I did a egg treatment for protein. I did it dry because I wanted my hair to really get all the egg, although I put a few drops of water on each section I worked with but for the most part it was dry. I parted my hair in sections and really worked it in all the way to the ends then let it set for 15 minutes.

I then rinsed my hair in the shower because I have a problem with my hair getting tangled. I watched a video where a girl dangled her hair with condition. So I had some motion deep conditioner in a big tube so I sectioned off my hair and put a lot of conditioner in. It actually worked I started combing from the end up and I actually got the comb through my hair without any breakage.

It has been a long time since I was able to comb through my hair wet. I would normally just let me hair dry and then comb through it after it dries. I just let that stay in about 5 minutes and then back into the shower to rinse it out. I normally wash my hair in the kitchen sink but it gets all tangled so the shower is better for now.

I then put the Olive Oil Penetrating Deep condition on really good all the way through the ends and got under the dryer for 15 minutes with a bag on of course. Once I am done with this I will probably put some leave-in condition on it and then start my rod set. I am using the motion setting lotion because I already had it in my cabinet. I am ordering some good product that I can use but I will not have it for 10 days.

Check back tomorrow for the follow up on whether my wash worked and updated on how my roller set came out.

Be sure to sign up for my reader and catch all my updates on my natural hair journey.

Ethnic Hair Relaxer - How To Prep

I am getting ready to do a protein treatment on my hair because as I mentioned in earlier post I have a lot of breakage and I think I need protein and moisture. Everyone says you should rotate your protein and moisture conditioners. I am still doing research on that as well as with my own own. My grandmother use to use egg in our hair when we were little and we had natural long hair very shinny and soft.

Okay I watched a couple of videos and it seems like everyone has a different approach when it comes to egg protein treatment.

JustThisGirl 11 has a video for pre treatment relaxer preparation before getting your relaxer. Since I have not decided if I am going perm hair to natural hair I thought I might mention it. I usually don't go no longer than 6 months between perms. But this is good to know and may help to keep a lot of you length by doing this little extra step before relaxing.

I have notice some people put the egg in their shampoo, some put it straight on their hair with just egg and some people wet their hair and some do not. I guess it is any body's call I wonder what is the most effective way of doing this process.

Hair Protein Treament Products

JustthisGirl uses Infuse Intensive Reconstruture c(Enphuse is from the Phyto Organics (nexxus) line. It's the protein counterpart to the humectin moisturizing conditioner. )

She also use a deep conditioner after the protein treatment put moisture back in she uses pantene relaxed and natural deep conditioner mask and it is safe to use a moisture after every shampoo. Best habit is to use a daily moisture on the hair especially if you have permed relaxed hair.

Last but not least she uses pure virgin coconut oil and I have heard a lot of great things about how coconut oil plays an important role in hair growth. Funny how natural oils play a key role in growing longer stronger hair but our store bought products are now just starting to answer that call.

She seems to have the right idea and it make sense to me to put protein back into your hair after a perm. You can watch here video buy clicking on her name up top. I am not going to do this method because I do not have any of those products. I was actually looking for a video on the home egg protein treatment.

Good luck in your healthy hair journey. I have spent three days going through videos and trying to determine who is giving the best advice or who hair type fits mine. If you are looking for a way to get your ethnic hair in order I advise you to watch the videos on you tube. The ladies have already made all the mistakes so why try to reinvent the wheel. You can start with the videos on this page.

I am going to order heavenly journey products mixed with some ideas from Dprincess28. I spent so far over $50 just getting products to start me out. It seems like it will take about 10 days to get my products from heavenly journey. I read so many great testimonials and feel comfortable ordering the products. I would feel better if there were a money back guarantee considering the cost pretty on the expensive side.

Product I am going to purchase to grow my hair...

The lady that run the site has pic and videos showing her hair from chop off long and healthy. So the products bought today to get started I will list below. I know I need protein and moisturizer however, you have to switch them up. I am going to do a egg treatment prior to the wash, I could not find any virgin coconut cream to start with. I plan on putting a teaspoon of apple cedar vinegar in my shampoo and I choose Olive Oil Replenishing deep conditioner. I will then do a herb rinse after the deep conditioner. I am concerned about my hair tangling but I will let it partially dry then comb it out an wet it a bit to do my rod set.

Products For My First Rod Set: Project Rod Set

Egg Protein Pre-Wash Nioxin Shampoo add teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (not the best makes hair thick and grow it but hair breaks after a while) Olive Oil Replenishing Deep Conditioner Setting lotion SoftSheen Carlson Optimun Oil Therapy (first time using)

Be sure to sign up for my reader and catch my photos as I take this journey to fabulous ethnic hair.

Ethnic Hair - Necessity Tools

Today I bought my first set of "Ethnic Hair Supplies". I will list them and their prices as well as the places I got them from. You may have most of these things in your cabinet or you may be like me and have to go and purchase everything. Small investment for nice long healthy and silky hair.

Let's face if we are going to do this right we must have the supplies and tools to see this through. Hey we are all on a budget now days but hair is like personal hygiene you just got to keep it up no way out of that. I am leaning on Chaz Dean products because he give you a shampoo and conditioner all in one. With his shampoo you can replace your four of you already used products.

Large mirror (pink) from big lots $2.00

A Stance Mirror so I can sit and work $1.50 (not actual mirror but close)

Ouchless hair bands 2.00 (stay away from rubber bands that cut and break hair) you
also want to avoid the ties with the gold clip in middle.

So as you can see so far I have spent $5.50 and I still have a long list of things to buy. I will try to cut corners as much as possible as I stated in another post when you buy products you have no way of telling what will work on your hair and what will not. I always try to get the same line of shampoo and conditioner however if you go all natural of find products with a lot of natural oils you should be ok.

My list of things still to purchase:

Hair scissors from supply store

shampoo and conditioner

moisturizer

Rollers for the wet set

Gel

Natural oil or gloss

And that is just to start me off. There are a lot of other hair styles that will require other products and supplies to buy. Watch the videos on this site and all other you tube videos on natural hair to learn how to care for you hair. Be sure to get my free report and sign up for my news letter for tips, tricks and hair styles. I will also be doing videos and posting pics...

Natural Hair Journey

In my quest for natural hair and better, healthier and longer hair I finally left my house to go and buy my products. Unfortunately my local beauty supply shop was closed so I wondered in big lots that was just next door. I managed to pick up a large mirror and a mirror with a stand which will help me when I need to use both of my hands and I can also sit down.

Be prepared to purchase some much needed supplies especially if you don't have a beautician or the one you use does not cater to natural healthy hair. I was also able to pick up some hair ties to replace rubber bands which can break and cut into your hair.

Buying Black Hair Products

I headed over to Walmart to purchase some inexpensive black hair products but when I got their I discovered I had left my list behind. I was able to find some of the products I was looking for but I was not sure so I opted to just wait until tomorrow.

The first thing I have to do is get my hair back to a softer healthy state. So I am trying to decide on the right shampoo and conditioner. What I know so far is that you need protein to strengthen you hair (which is broken down in the relaxing process) and a moisture that not only works on the outside of the head but the inside. So I am looking for products with a lot of natural oils and less commercial as well as inexpensive.

My thoughts is to go cheap to start, however, I don't want to waste money trying different products that does not work. My thoughts is that maybe I can return the products that are no good to the store, hummm, maybe I will check with the store manager to see what is the return policy. I have no problem buying products if I can get a return bottle policy no questions asked.

All Natural Hair Products

I was considering purchasing all natural oils by Chaz Dean "WEN" very expensive $82.00 on QVC sit and over one hundred dollars if you purchase from his store on website, and the amounts are rather small. However, it is all natural and he gives a 30 day guarantee on all his products.

I am also looking at Hair Affinity who sells hair vitamins for faster hair growth for black ethnic hair. Their products are more reasonable and natural as well I think the whole set only cost around $40.00. I will be purchasing the vitamins because of the great client testimonials and I use to take GNC hair, nail and skin vitamins and they worked pretty well.

I would recommended that everyone take a good look at the ingredients in their products and spend a little time to find out what we are putting on our bodies and on our hair. Our bodies are like sponges and what ever we put on our skin goes right into our blood stream.

Okay back to my first natural hair style. I will take Dprincess up on her challenge to stay away from heat for 30 days. I have been debating back and forth all day do I really want to go natural or continue breaking my hair down with perm.

Well tomorrow I will go to Sallies and buy a couple of products that will allow me to try some natural styles. I am still learning how to put protein and moisture back into my hair and restore it back to it's original state. I thought it was from just getting old but I think it is more from bad hair care.

I think I will go for a wavy look that seems pretty simple. Just wash and condition hair then add leave in conditioner, part hair two sections above the ear, then twist and pin up. Tie hair with silk scarf and the next morning take down hair and comb out with finders not come. You can use gel for sides.

I will post videos of my results or pics. Be sure join my readers list and we can take this road to healthy ethnic hair. Keep in mind I just recently had a perm in July this year, and just so happen my niece the perm all the way to the ends. I have a long way to go before I get that total natural look.

I am still debating if I want to buy the expensive good stuff or just try some of the cheaper products that has natural oils in it even though commercial hair products are not the best for your hair.

Ethnic Hair Loss Remedies

Are you to looking to discover what ethnic hair loss remedies really work. I am looking for a way to stop my hair from thinning on the sides. I have tried ethnic hair products and nothing seem to work. I guess I should say I am looking for a way to re-grow my hair on the sides. I am not sure why it is thinning so much considering I am only in my early 40's.

I will chop it up as poor diet, smoking, not enough water or from perms. I have been only perming my hair every 4 to 6 months to slow down the process of thinning hair along with graying. My hair is not thick and healthy as it use to be.

I have been trying some herbal remedies at home to eliminate the commercial store bought products. Last night I wash my hair for the first time with a home remedy formula that I will list below.

My regular shampoo
added 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to my shampoo

I just washed my hair as normal and all was fine. don't worry about the vinegar smell it was not that bad.

I then conditioned my hair with a home remedy hair conditioner:

Boiled in pot ...

3 Table spoons of rosemary
2 table spoons of basil
2 table spoons of sage

Let cool to room temperature than put into refrigerator until cold. I then just poured the mixture onto my hair messaged it into my scalp and left on for about 5 minutes. You can probably do it longer since it is natural and should not hurt you.

I then let my hair air dry partly and used a blow dryer to finish the drying process. I did rub a gloss or oil product over my hair to help protect my hair from the heat. Since I have permed hair which breaks down the natural strength of the hair it is weaker. I do not comb my hair while it is wet any more because it is tangled and tends to break easily. I assume because of the perm weakening process.

RESULTS:

I noticed that I did not need as much gloss or straightening product in the flat iron process. Normally when I flat iron my hair after blow drying I need gloss on every portion that I flat iron. This time was different my hair was shinny and bouncier and felt a lot healthier.

I did clips my ends just bit. Since I do not have a hair stylist right now and I despise split ends I bought some inexpensive scissors from a beauty supply store for about $25 dollars, but you can use what ever you have. My grandmother use to cut my hair and I know she did not buy any special scissors, granted we did not have perms and flat irons..just an old fashioned straightening comb and ultra sheen grease.

My hair would normally feel dry and brittle and would break easily. I still need to wait a couple of days to see if the condition of my hair remains the same. Meaning I can run my fingers through my hair without it breaking. I have to admit it does feel stronger and I am not sure if it was the process of adding the vinegar to the shampoo or the home remedy conditioner.

My mom told me she heard the the conditional will help grow your hair and keep it healthy. I also read for hair loss you can use rosemary and sage.

I will update this blog on the results of my home conditioner and hair growth. I have just permed my hair in July so I will not do another perm until November or December. If my home remedies can work to soften, moisturize and strengthen my hair who knows maybe if can cut out the perm altogether.

I will wash and condition my own hair and then find a hair dresser that can press and keep the ends clipped for me. If the conditioning process works then my roots should be soft and strong.

Check back of sign up for my email news letter to get the latest update and you tube videos results.

Ethnic hair loss remedies fact or fiction only time and test will tell.
