Christina Malone, 20 year old b/f, 729 East Maple Street, Apt. #1, Johnson City and charged her

on 03/15/10 at her residence. Malone is currently being held in the Washington County

Detention Center on a $5,000.00 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Washington County

General Sessions Court on 03-16-10 @ 1:30pm.

On March 12, 2010 at approximately 4:22am William H Austin, 804 N North St Johnson City, TN, B/M, 24 years old, was arrested by the Johnson City Police Department. The arrest stems from Austin being questioned on the suspicion of public intoxication in the area of W Market St and Sycamore St. Austin was intoxicated and he was placed in custody for his safety and the safety of the public. During a search, incident to arrest, three pieces of a white, rock-like substance that was preliminarily identified as Crack Cocaine were found in his pants pocket. The approximate weight of the substance was 1.4 grams. He was then charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance- for resale. Austin was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $10,500 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County General Sessions Court on March 15, 2010 at 9:00am.

The Johnson City Police Department would like to pass information on to the public involving a scam in the area. One resident of Johnson City reported that two males came to her residence on March 11^th and stated they worked for the Johnson City Water Department. One of the males gave information to the woman which convinced her to allow him entry into her home. The woman reported that once the man left her home she noticed some items had been stolen. The Johnson City Water Department has confirmed that these individuals do not work for the Water Department.

One of the suspects was described as a white male in his mid 30’s, 6’0”-6’2”, slim build. He had short black hair and was clean shaven. The man was driving a light colored minivan. Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Johnson City Police Department at 434-6166 or Crimestoppers at 434-6158. On Thursday, March 11^th, 2010, Officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Mr. Robert Allen Julian, DOB 11/27/1961, currently residing in Ft Meyers, FL (previously Johnson City, TN) on charges of Possession of Stolen Property. The arrest was a result of a 911 call stating that a white male was attempting to steal bolt cutters from Auto Zone located at 2904 N. Roan St. When Officers arrived, they found a U-Haul truck on the lot that was reported stolen out of Louisiana. After a brief search of the area, Officers found the male and identified him as Mr. Julian. Witness statements and evidence from the U-Haul truck placed the truck in Mr. Julian’s possession. Mr. Julian was arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is currently being held on a $6,000 bond with an arraignment hearing set for Monday, March 15^th, 2010, at 1:30pm in the Washington County General Sessions Court.

On March 11, 2010, officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested James Alan Johnson, w/m, 05/15/81, 2803 McKinley Rd, Johnson City. The arrest is a result of an investigation into the theft of a U-Haul truck that occurred on February 27, 2010, from U-Haul Rentals located at 112 Commerce St.

Mr. Johnson was also charged with Identity Theft and two counts of Forgery under $500 after he passed stolen checks at a local bank. He is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center on bonds totaling $22,000.00. Mr. Johnson is scheduled to appear in Washington County General Sessions Court on March 15, 2010, at 1:30 p.m.

Thoughts for Jeff Byrd

Bristol Motor Speedway officials announced today President and General Manager Jeff Byrd has taken a leave of absence to undergo tests and treatment for a recently-discovered medical matter. It will prevent him from involvement in the upcoming Food City 500 weekend.

Byrd recently went through a series of tests and his doctors are encouraged that the condition is limited to one area and is treatable.

“I fully intend to be back on the job as soon as the doctors say it is ok,” said Byrd. “I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and will miss being at the track for the Food City 500 weekend. I have said for years I have the best team in motorsports and things are in good hands.”

Byrd and his family have asked for prayers and privacy at this time.

But in 2010, millions of Americans still do not have access to the wealth of information made available on the Web. Even though the Internet was invented in the U.S. over 20 years ago, many Americans lag behind in both access to the Internet and speed of connections, which is why the Federal Communications Commission (or the FCC, the federal agency that oversees the U.S. communications industry) is launching its much-anticipated National Broadband Plan next Tuesday, to lay out its strategy for connecting all Americans to fast, affordable high-speed Internet.

After this plan is announced, you have the opportunity to interview FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, in the second of a series of in-person YouTube interviews with government leaders. (Our first, with United States President Barack Obama, took place last month.) On 03-08-10 officers of the Johnson City Police Dept. arrested Jason O. Kelley, w/m, D.O.B 10/28/1980 of 820 Lamont St Apt#2 Johnson City, Tn. The arrest is the result of an investigation on 02-01-10 into an assault where Mr. Kelley threatened a female with a knife and fled the scene before officers arrived. On this date officers located Mr. Kelley at which time he fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later. Officers determined that Mr. Kelley had a warrant for his arrest in North Carolina for Violation of Probation, a burglary warrant out of Smyth County Virginia and a warrant for Theft under $500.00 out of Johnson City for a previous shoplifting incident. Mr. Kelley is charged with Fugitive from Justice, Aggravated Assault, Theft Under $500.00 and Evading Arrest. Mr. Kelley is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $7,000.00 bond and will be arraigned in Sessions Court on 03-09-10 at 9:00 A.M. in Jonesborough.
