This is a two-ply yarn. One ply is 100% wool and spun from wool dyed in the pinks and greens of a rose garden. The other ply is a marvelously soft brown alpaca.

The finished yarn is a nice and soft 2-ply in a /light worsted weight.

50% hand dyed wool/ 50% natural alpaca
light worsted weight (9-10 wpi)
2 ply yarn

Two skeins are available (check options to see/order both). Skein 1 is 170 yds./2.3 Oz. Skein 2 is 185 yds./2.5 oz.

Beaded Romney Wool Yarn Aran Weight MAHOGANY DREAM 124 yards by katescauldron

It was a lovely mound of deep brown natural Romney wool--a mahogany dream. I plied two woolen spun singles with a beaded thread to created squishy heavy worsted weight yarn with a subtle sparkle and a slightly variated texture.

The beads are vintage seed beads in a variety of colors and finishes (pearly, metalics, clear, lots of blues, a smattering of greens and browns and whites).

Handspun Light Worsted Yarn: Wool Alpaca Blend, Cherry Coils by katescauldron

Note: I lost my fiber notes on these skeins. I am pretty sure it is romney wool blended with at least 25% alpaca, BUT since I can't swear to it, I've priced it a little lower to compensate for the confusion. It does have a bit of halo and a handfeel I would expect from a wool blended with alpaca.

This yarn started with a slightly thick and thin grey strand plied with a more uniform thinner white thread. I plied them together, adding coils here and there for some texture. Finally, I over dyed the plied skeins with a deep cherry tint to make a variegated yarn which transitions from pale pink and purple to deep pink and black cherry.

The finished yarn is a 2-ply in a light worsted weight with a bit of textural interest from the coils and a rich color. This listing is for a single skein, but 2 are available. If you are interested in both, don't forget to change the quantity on your order.

East Indian Rosewood and Maple with red jewel organic shape by katescauldron

This listing is for a two piece Shawl pin. One piece is an organic shape carved from a piece of nearlt black East Indian Rosewood. The other is a maple stick, capped with red jewel and bronzed endcap. The two work together as a lovely shawl pin for knitted or loosely woven wraps.

The stick measures about 4 1/4" inches (10.5 cm). The rosewood piece measures 2 1/2" (6.2 cm) between the two most distant points. The piece is about 1/8" thick. I've given the wood a light tung oil finish to protect and bring out the grain.

Handspun Merino Wool Yarn fingering pumpkin and purple 330 yds by katescauldron

I spunthis yarn on my spindle from a superfine merino roving that shifted from pumpkin orange to russet and brick tones to wine hues and purples (The photos don't seem to capture the more winey purple well). I chain plied (navajo plied) the single to allow for a three ply thickness while allowing the yarn to gradually shift from the oranges to the purples without mixing.

This skein would make a lovely shawlette, cowl or scarf. The yarn is so soft against the skin.

Oversized Chunky Wooden Buttons Bird's Eye Maple Handcrafted set of two by katescauldron

This listing is for a pair of over-sized chunky handcrafted wooden buttons. The natural maple wood makes a great accent for hand knits or a special sewing project! I given them just a light finish with tung oil to bring out and protect the wood's natural color and grain. These buttons are dramatically large.

Handwoven Baby Alpaca Shawl, Mint Green Brown Plaid, Autumn Wrap by katescauldron

This shawl was woven from wonderfully soft and drapey baby alpaca yarn. I wove a cool minty green with a natural brown into a subtle plaid. The shawl is composed of four triangles which I seamed together inconspicuously and finished with short knotted fringe.

Alpaca makes for a soft and warm, yet not bulky or heavy wrap.
