Sugarcane plantations were the staple of the Caribbean economy. It was actually brought to the Caribbean from Southeast Asia. Majority of the sugar supplied in Western Europe in fact came from sugarcane plantations in the Caribbean. When we think of the characteristics of sugarcane it’s tall, strong, and sweet. I use to love sugarcane growing up, I thought it was a treat. Its origin roots in Southeast Asia symbolize the meaning of this stoic plant as sustenance and prosperity.
