Mingle with friends! Fun for the whole family! The mission of Branches Art Space is to become a creative place connecting the areas between Arts Collinwood and Shore Cultural Centre. Branches is an arts cooperative providing the opportunity for emerging artists to grow alongside professional artists, giving them a space to work and display their art. Artists will share their skills with the community by holding art classes for all ages.

All proceeds from this event will help Branches to fulfill its mission and to offset the cost of art materials for our students.

Jack Fay, principal architect of Fay Architecture has recently successfully redesigned and revitalized Euclid's two major shopping plazas, Shore Center Plaza and Lakeshore Plaza. In addition to these two projects, Fay Architecture also redesigned and renovated many other downtown Euclid business and retail establishments such as Shore Plaza, the former Euclid Beauty School, Dave's Supermarket (formerly Tops), Atlas Cinema Lakeshore, and Dave Carlson's NationWide Insurance agency. Fay Architecture specializes in renovations for urban structures which remain useful yet are in need of improving their exteriors. Euclid Schools offer tours of Elementary Schools

As most are aware, the Euclid City School District is building four new elementary schools that are scheduled to open in fall 2012. The state-of-the-art schools are co-financed by the State of Ohio through the Ohio School Facilities Commission that is funded with tobacco settlement money.

Euclid Baseball roars back to life!

After several years of mediocre results, Euclid High School's baseball team is enjoying one of its finest seasons in memory. After beating LEL rival Maple Heights by an 18-0 score, the Panthers moved to 7-1-1 in the first nine games of the season. The team is led by a trio of talented pitchers: Conner Fuller, Vinnie Klun, and Johnny Law. All three are seniors and have been virtually unhittable in their early appearances.Other Panther standouts include John Abrams, Joe Belavich, Chris Kato, Alex Hunter, Jeremy Golden, Matt Kohler, Tony Jelenic, and Cameron Fuller.

Saturday, April 21st was cold and overcast, but that didn’t keep some 55 people from attending the Annual Rain Barrel Sale from 10am to 11:30am to purchase 42 60g barrels. For the past 4 years, the Euclid Historical Museum has hosted the event co-sponsored by Cuyahoga Soil & Water District (CSWD), Friends of Euclid Creek (FOEC) and the City of Euclid. The focus of the sale is the rain barrel workshop. Claire Posius of CSWD instructs buyers on the value of rain barrels, how to assemble one and then sets them loose.

The Lady Luck is a dying breed of bar. Unpretentious in every aspect of the word, when you step inside at about 3:00pm it puts you in the mood for a quiet beer with the buddies on a Thursday afternoon while you keep an eye on the game. Spacious and clean on the inside, this unique space seems a bit intimidating on the outside. Wedged between residential homes on Nottingham it sprawls in the middle of a mostly empty parking lot during work hours on week days. However, the quiet lunch time hour is perfect if you want some great, traditional bar food with fast and friendly service. When asked what the most popular thing on the menu was, our barmaid, Mary, suggested the wings and the burgers. Both were exceptional. She took the time out to explain that both the ground sirloin for the burger and the large-sized chicken wings are never frozen, plus the sauces, sides and marinara that most bars buy in a can or jar are all home-made and fresh here. It's not hard to see why this "hole-in-the-wall" local bar has the reputation for some of the most affordable and best bar food around. You won't find filet mignon here, but you will find fun, nostalgic, homestyle food like Sloppy Joe's and Fried bologna sandwiches any day of the week.

Euclid Hospital celebrates Earth Day

Over a hundred people participated in Euclid Hospital's Earth Day.

Since its inception more than 40 years ago, Earth Day has become an important reminder of the human impact on the ecosystem. Euclid Hospital proudly celebrated this special day as a way to remember that everyone can contribute to a healthy environment. On April 20, over 100 people stopped by the cafeteria to learn more about saving energy and reducing waste at both home and work. Hosted by the hospital's Green Team, the event also featured a light bulb giveaway, coloring contest and other educational activities.

We’re making some changes in anticipation of our best Stroll ever. Note that not only will we have Lolly the Trolley and the Euclid Beach Rocket Ship car, but we’ve added the Euclid Beach Thriller car to whisk people up and down the street. A new band, The Chardon Polka Band, has been added to our already great line up of The Joe Mayer Orchestra and the White House Jazz Band. The latter is courtesy of Thomas Kimbrough of T and T Barber Shop.

The year 2012 began with an unusual number of tornadoes during January. The first major tornado outbreak occurred on January 22-23, when a spring-like system moved across the southern Mississippi valley, producing at least two dozen confirmed tornadoes across Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. As a whole, January was the third most active on record, behind 1999 and 2008. Despite this, a significant contrast in activity occurred for the month of February. Despite a slow beginning, the month of February ended with a significant tornado outbreak on the 28th and 29th. Another ramp-up in activity occurred in early March, with one of the largest outbreaks ever recorded in the United States for that time of the year. This outbreak produced 160 reported tornadoes, and affected areas across Indiana and Kentucky in particular. Using the adjusted preliminary tornado count (85% of the total preliminary reports in order to remove overcount), 2012 attained record tornado activity on March 23 with 319 reports, eclipsing the previous record of 317.

In 2005 I was working as a Branch Manager for Howard Hanna, Smythe, Cramer Co., I was involved in every transaction and saw an abundance of transactions of single mothers with assistance from a program at the time that was titled “Coming Home.” I looked into this and saw that it was initiated from a local non-profit Housing Service. I signed up for the class just to see what it was about and why so many women that wouldn’t be able to buy were great qualified buyers.

Euclid's Animal Adventure

The Euclid Recreation Department will be hosting Euclid's Animal Adventure on June 9th from 12:00-5:00pm in the C.E. Orr Ice Arena. This adventure will include a petting zoo, performances by two wildlife handlers and several fun activities and games. The first performer of the afternoon will be Wildlife Wendy and her Tropical Birds. Wendy and her birds have appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show, Leno and Animal Planet's Pet Star, as well as several movies and commercials. Wendy's trick-performing, mimicking and free-flight birds provide a visual spectacle and interesting facts. Our second performer is a Euclid favorite, Jungle Terry! Jungle Terry brings a variety of hand trained animals that will give an upclose, hands on encounter.

Yoga for healthier living

Mary Baird, Coordinator of Atma Center's Yog@Work program, will be the guest speaker at the May meeting of the Euclid Diabetes Support Group. Mary has been practicing yoga for thirty years. She teaches a class called Yoga for Healthy Aging at the Atma House and also gives private lessons covering many aspects of yoga. She believes yoga is important for anyone seeking to maintain balance, inner strength, and sanity in today's world. Mary has filled her life with a wide variety of teaching experiences and volunteer activities. She is also the co-founder of Hard-Hatted Women.
