So it’s been a long time since I have posted but being an avid fan of WordPress as I know many of my followers are I just had to get this content out ther after first hearing about this from Kim Castleberry.

Kim informed me that  according to Mark Maunder, a developer who first located timthumb.php vulnerability being exploited (his site was hacked), “An image resizing utility called timthumb.php is widely used by many WordPress themes. Google shows over 39 million results for the script name. If your WordPress theme is bundled with an unmodified timthumb.php as many commercial and free themes are, then you should immediately either remove it or edit it.”

So this is no joke people lets get protected and stay protected.

The file is TimThumb.php but there are themes and plugins that have renamed it to Thumb.php (again not all thumb.php files are secretly timthumb.php)

A lot of people are saying this is a  “theme issue” but I have heard that there have been shopping cart plugins, slider plugins, thumbnail plugins and more if a plugin looks at an image sideways it might be affected.

If you use wordpress but think you’re safe how about just making double sure you’re completely safe.

Put a  contact form on your contact page and make it easy for your visitors to contatct you.  If for whatever reason, you have not jumped on the 2.0 band wagon (and you really should have by now) a contact form is going to be the only way to interact with visitors to your website.

Interaction with your visitors is a must and if you’re not making it simple for visitors to contact you, then you’re probably missing out on hundreds of leads.

Remember a website is your shop window for the entire world to see the wonderful products and services you have to offer them but if you don’t make it a quick, easy and a painless experience for visitors to contact you then you can be sure, they will, go elsewhere.

The easiest way to make sure you can be contacted 24hrs a day 365 days a year is by using a contact form, and because it’s a contact form it should be kept short and to the point, you don’t want to make it a lengthy process for your visitors or they won’t bother using it.

The above is all you need to include in a contact form, it provides you with enough information to do exactly what it’s designed for which is to allow you to contact the person back.

I have seen some awful contact forms on websites that ask for everything from gender, age to shoe size, I kid you not.

Do not worry about what fields your competitors are or are not using because you don’t know how well they’re converting, all you need to worry about is making it easy for your visitors to contact you so you can contact them back.

Do you really need your own domain name if you want to run an online business?

I can tell you that I personally own an array of domain names that I have acquired over the years and I have been hosting my own and client’s domains and websites since 2003.

The answer is YES! (Sorry for shouting I just need to make sure you heard me) you do need your own domain name.

In my experience the only people that don’t want you to have a domain name are those that want you to send traffic to their site and sell their products as an affiliate.

Please don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the above, I didn’t have my own domain name when I first started out but then again I didn’t know any better.

Now that I know better I would strongly advise that if you want to be taken seriously and stay in control of your new online business, then one of the first things you need to do is buy a domain name for your online business (notice I said one of the first things) it’s only going to cost you a few dollars to buy a domain name.
