Euro Millions Jackpots - why do they vary?

I was chatting to my irish lotto agent recently who has taken over the purchase of euro tickets for a couple of weeks and discovered that the euro jackpots in different countries vary - quite considerably.

Take this week for example:

On the uk national lotto site the jackpot is advertised as: 18 million pounds
Nationallottery

On the Irish lotto site the jackpot is advertised as: 15 million euro...
Irish Lotto (scroll halfway down the page).
It does seem odd to say the least:

15 million eur = around 10 million GBP... quite a massive difference if you ask me.

So whats going on? Has the Irish lotto got it wrong (their website is much to be desired as it stands... or is it due to the uk lotto costing a lot more per ticket...

1.50 GBP = around 2.30EUR

An interesting thought to say the least.

Okay - don't ask me what the title means, I have no idea myself.

however to cut a long story short (or simply write a synopsys) I guess what I am trying to say is that when we start playing the lottery becomes like one of those random rituals that we simply must do (like spinning a pen around your thumb).

I have been watching the likes of the Megamillions (USA) and Powerball (USA) games and their perceived big jackpots. Take today for example, MegaMillions is at a whopping 97 Millions USD however 97 = call it 49 million pounds and the cash option is probably around 25 million of which 33% goes to the federal coffers (and boy do they need it!) leaving you with a lousy: 17.5 Million. Nothing to snort at of course however when you think of the excitement a 97 Millions USD jackpot creates compared to a 17.5 Million euromillions jackpot... it makes no sense.

But then I guess lotto players cant do maths anyway... I certainly cant, maybe thats why I keep on playing?

So thats my qestions for the day, so take my advice and play the euro lotto!

I cant believe it! Well over 130 Million smackerooonies (USD) for this Fridays game... I am so ready to win it this time, erm around.

Shocked to say all 0 numbers came in last friday... I guess using ex girlfriends birthdates is not the answer and I am still going to hell (although I hear its warmer than the UK ?).

I walked to the shop today to buy my Euro Tickets and the shop owner told me that they expect to be selling well over 5 million tickets each and every hour for todays draw!

When I heard the stats the naught words, "Holy crap!" involuntarily shot out my mouth which caused a rather scrumptious little blond to blush a rosy pink). Anyhow - after appologising to seek and scrummy young lady I thought I would try and do the maths. So I opened both hands and quicky realised that I would be there all day if I had to work out what 5 million per hour for the next 9 hours would mean in pennies pounds and pence!

So back behind the PC I have the luxury of my calculator (a big grey thing thats older than the enterprise).

Right 5 million X 10 = 50 Million X 1 pound 50 = 75 million in turnover today. Of this 50% goes to the operator = 37.5 Million of which 28% goes to charity = 10.5 million.

So - even if it is almost impossible to win - at least its a fun way to have a dream AND contribute to good causes!

As a regular lotto player, am very glad to be able to play the euro lotto where the whole £64 ($119) Million could be mine!

Yes the whole jackpot will be mine! (sob! pray! grovel!!).

In discussion with other lotto players who where all excited by the huge MegaMillions jackpot recently. It was around $160 million which is great but then you look at the lump sum payout which was around $90 mil and that is still before tax (around 33%)!!! So you stand to walk away with a measly $62 mil for a jackpot the MegaMillions lotto advertise as $160 mil, and at odds that are much worse than Euromillions. Dont get me wrong, $62 is still a staggering amount and I would give both my Kahunas to win it!

I personally prefer the lump sum tax free lotteies - this way I know whats gonna be written on the cheque and I know exactly how I am going to spend it!

It is of no surprise that Friday the 13ths Euro Lotto brought no luck. I personally only manged to match a single lucky star which brought in a fat zero in the winning stakes to add to the pile.

For those who dont know the winning numbers where: 02-25-32-38-41 (03-05). Which in retrospect seems quite logical, I have 2 hands, 25 marbles, 32 potatoes in the potato bag (yes I counted) 38 pens in my pen draw (although most of them dont work) and 41 resembles the year that the The Mark V spitfire entered service in early 1941... So actually quite obvious!

Next Fridays Jackpot is 64 Million pounds, around 118 Million USD (Tax free - come to daddy!).

To get a good idea of what numbers are more than likely to turn up, take a look at the lottery number frequency tool found on thebigbiglotto.com.

I think this time round I am going to run around the office counting various items and draw my numbers that way - of course I will post these just before the draw so you can see how truly acurate an un-scientific method of random randomness really can be!
