Promotion for the Maltese Representative Commences

The Day Has Come!

Tonight Live on TVM, Online on Eurovision.tv and Live on Azerbaijan's TV,Ictimai, The Final of the Malta Eurovision Song Festival 2012. Euromt will be following the event from the Malta Fairs and Convention Center brining you more details and pictures of the event. Before the Malta Eurovision, TVM will be hosting the 'Red Carpet Show' at 6:05 PM CET.

Later on today, the running order of tonight's final will be announced. Only the first and last positions were drawn for definite. The rest of the acts were drawn into pots, and the exact running order will be determined later on today.

The Facbook cartoon criticizing Elaine Saliba's gloves

This night, well in fact, Last night, TVM held the highly anticipated Malta Eurovision 2012 Semi-Final. One must congratulate TVM for their effort in organizing a high quality music event as the their effort was evident.

As with every other Eurovision event, there were many surprises. The presenter's purple gloves might be considered as one of the Malta Eurovision festival disasters. Maybe such gloves are in fashion, but many Maltese were comparing them to dish washing gloves online especially on the social network Facebook. Some also took the opportunity to create typical Facebook cartoons regarding these gloves. Carina, one of the fashion critics most popular with Maltese took care of the overall image of the artists and presenters.

The most controversial surprises were actually in the selection of the 16 songs for the final. Many complained that there were songs which truly deserved to pass to the final and actually win the contest, some of which were also quite popular with Maltese and foreigners.

The Jury Members

Only a day away from the Malta Eurovision 2012 Semi-Final, and unfortunately there was no word on who the jury members are. However, one of the most leading foreign Eurovision websites, esctoday, is in position to reveal that 3 of the juries are: Bruno Berberes, head of French delegation; Evi Papamichael, head of Cypriot delegation and TVM news caster and former Malta Eurovision host, Keith Demicoli.

What's Happening at the MFCC?

Tuesday and Wednesday were dedicated to technical rehearsals, and now , it is time for a full dress rehearsal. Meanwhile, yesterday the singers selected their snippet for the recaps to be used during the Semi-Final and Final of the Malta Eurovision.

This morning last year's Maltese representative, Glen Vella , together with his gospel group 'Animae', were present for rehearsals. There were also changes in the lights setting and graphics to enhance the quality of the show. Later in the afternoon the rehearsals of the group DREAMS, Airport Impressions and the foreign singers will take place, followed by the full dress rehearsal scheduled at 5:30 PM.

The Rehearsals

Today, Tuesday 31st January was the first 'full day' rehearsal at the MFCC for the Malta Eurovision. A full schedule is again planned for Wednesday 1st February. This year the stage will feature a total of 20 large LED screens including another which is on a larger scale and has a higher resolution. There are also more than 11 cameras positioned across the stage. According to the singers' reaction, the sound in the convention center was pretty good and there were only a few minimal technical difficulties. On Wednesday, the singers will be able to choose their recap slot after the second stage rehearsal.

UPDATE (31/1/2012)

As like ever year , euromt has not been granted access to attend for the Malta Eurovision rehearsals, despite the contribution offered. However this year , in exception , PBS has denied access to all online media as in previous years some artists had a hard time handling constructive criticism and opinions. Today the rehearsals kicked of with '25 minute period' sessions per artist. More information will be published as when it is available.

On various local TV channels, one can find an interesting list of programmes featuring the Malta Eurovision 2012. Apart from the "Qabel il-Malta Eurovision 2012" which is going to continue next Sunday at 8:40 PM CET, right after the 8:00 PM TVM News bulletin, Tonight the weekly programme 'Xarabank' will also be featuring the national final, you can watch TVM through this link.

On ONE TV the show 'Eurovision Box' will also be featuring the Malta Eurovision 2012 with information about the participating artists and international correspondents, from Greece, The Netherlands and Isreal, who will give their opinion on what they think about the Maltese songs this year. This show will have it's first episode this Saturday (January 28th) between 3:45PM and 4:45PM (CET).

According to the Maltese website, escflashmalta, it also confirmed that the Maltese band 'Airport Impressions' will also form part of the list of guests for the Malta Eurovision 2012. As for the local fans of the Maltese music industry this is great news, as Airport Impressions have become one of Malta's most popular and well known groups.

International Eurovision website, esctoday has confirmed that for this year's Malta Eurovision, last year's Eurovision winners, Ell and Nikki from Azerbaijan will be the special guests. Unfortunately, the Polish national broadcaster TVP has decided not to join the Eurovision in Baku, however Montenegro now joined back and after a successful comeback last year, Italy is here to stay.

37 countries will be represented in the two Semi-Finals, where only 20 of them will qualify for the Grand Final, 10 from each Semi-Final. The draw for the running order in each Semi-Final will be determined during the Heads of Delegation meeting in March.

The Malta Eurovision 2012 Rehearsals Commencing Earlier Than Usual

As for this year's national final , the national broadcaster, PBS is going to hold the first rehearsals earlier than usual, in fact the rehearsals are to commence later on today (16th January). This decision has been taken as to ensure the best technical quality during the 2 nights and to make the singers feel more comfortable and used to the stage. All of the participants in this years' national selection have been called for an early rehearsal which is taking place throughout the whole day.
