Arsenal agree terms with Manchester City for £22m sale of Samir Nasri

Samir Nasri is on the brink of completing a £22m move to Manchester City after Arsenal confirmed they have agreed terms for the transfer.

Nasri, who has been linked with City all summer, trained with Arsenal on Tuesday morning but has been given permission to travel to Manchester this afternoon to undergo a medical and agree personal terms having told manager Arsène Wenger that he does not want to be included in the squad to play Udinese on Wednesday.

It is understood Nasri, who joined Arsenal from Marseille in 2008 for a fee of £15.8m, will double his wages at City having previously rejected a new £90,000-a-week contract to stay at Arsenal.

As his side prepared to fly to Italy on Tuesday afternoon, Wenger admitted Nasri's departure had come as another big blow having lost his captain to Barcelona last week. "The summer was very difficult because we had Cesc Fábregas and Nasri on permanent transfer negotiations and that is draining in the end," he said. "We lost two great players and that's a sad side of the story but at some stage it has to be over, because you want to focus on the future."

In July Wenger had insisted that he would not have to sell either Nasri or Fàbregas. Wenger said: "Samir's situation is clear for me. He stays. We are in a [financial] position where we can say 'No', and we will … Imagine the worst situation, that we lose Fábregas and Nasri; you cannot convince people that you are ambitious after that."

Nasri's move will put more pressure on Wenger to add to his squad though one of his primary targets, the Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard, is not for sale, according to his club Lille.

The Lille general manager Frédéric Paquet told the BBC: "Eden will not be leaving this season. We are aware of interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe but we are not prepared to sell. He is very happy here, he understands our project and wants to stay for at least another year."

Spain's top football playerscould continue their strike action over unpaid wages to a second match day this weekend.

Last weekend saw the start of the season delayed for the first time in 27 years after players chose to strike.

Six Spanish top-flight clubs are currently in bankruptcy protection.

"The problem is not solved. I would be more optimistic, but I cannot," said Luis Gil, director of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE). The AFE and the club's professional League - who represent the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Cesc Fabregas - met in a new round of talks in Madrid on Monday morning but failed to come to an agreement.

Both sides will reconvene on Tuesday afternoon to discuss further proposals after talks between the two parties last week failed to find a resolution, leading to the scheduled opening round of Primera Division and Segunda Division fixtures being postponed at the weekend.

AFE director Gil continued: "I understand that people want to watch football, but we must think about the players who are suffering.

"Presently, I can only speak of a strike for the second round of matches. And it will remain in place if we cannot find agreement on all points. We made another proposal and now must see if an agreement can be reached."

The representatives are demanding a wage guarantee and that players should be allowed to break their contracts if they are not paid for three consecutive months, a proposal rejected by the league.

It remains unclear if the league will try to squeeze missed matches into an already packed schedule or just scrap them.According to the AFE, 200 players in the top two divisions have not been fully paid by cash-strapped clubs and are owed a total of about 50m euros ($72m).

The league cannot be extended past the current end date of 13 May 2012, due to the time given over to national teams to prepare for next June's Euro 2012 tournament.

The second round of Primera Division matches includes reigning champions Barcelona hosting Villarreal next Monday and Real Madrid travelling away to Real Zaragoza on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Italian players' association (AIC) have also warned they will strike unless a new collective contract is signed before the start of the Serie A season this weekend.

The AIC was unhappy about clubs trying to force players to move in the last year of their contracts.

Players' representatives of all 20 Serie A clubs met in Milan on Monday afternoon to reaffirm their demand for the league to sign a new deal.

"We reiterate our position," said players' association president Damiano Tommasi. "If the contract is signed, we will play on Saturday or Sunday. Otherwise, we will stay at home."

The AIC said the league has still not signed an agreement reached with the players last year after intense negotiations, during which strikes were twice narrowly averted.

Il m'a demandé mon numéro de téléphone après la finale Inter-Palerme en coupe d'Italie. Il voulait déjà que je vienne jouer ici», a expliqué l'ancien meneur de jeu rosanero surESPN Rivadavia.

Pour l'international argentin, particulièrement ambitieux, «l'équipe a les moyens de lutter dans toutes les compétitions qu'elle dispute». Et même si le PSG va tout faire pour tenter de remporter le Championnat de France de Ligue 1 et la Ligue Europa, «la priorité des priorités, c'est de participer à la prochaine Ligue des champions».

Le milieu offensif parisien, ravi que certains de ses coéquipiers parlent l'espagnol ou l'italien comme son ami Salvatore Sirigu, avec qui il évoluait déjà en Sicile et avec qui il se «met au français», apprécie les discussions avec son nouvel entraîneur Antoine Kombouaré, qui lui demande «de prendre du plaisir sur le terrain et faire ce qu'il sait faire de mieux».

Leonardo voulait qu'il refuse sa sélection

Depuis Carlos Bianchi, le club de la capitale a noué une histoire d'amour avec l'Argentine, Javier Pastore en est conscient. «On m'a beaucoup parlé des Argentins qui ont joué au PSG. Sur Heinze on m'en a dit des tonnes ! C'était quelqu'un de bien en plus d'être un grand défenseur. On m'a beaucoup parlé aussi de Pochettino, de Sorin, de Gallardo mais également de Ronaldinho (qui, lui, est Brésilien, ndlr), bref des joueurs qui en ont mis plein la vue aux supporters comme à leurs coéquipiers.»

Si son intégration au sein du PSG semble en bonne voie, l'ancien joueur d'Huracan souhaite désormais s'imposer en sélection argentine. «Sabella (le nouveau sélectionneur argentin, ndlr) m'a dit que je faisais partie de son projet, ce qui m'a fait plaisir. Je lui ai dit que j'étais à sa disposition et que je m'adapterai à son système.»

Quitte à faire grincer des dents du côté de la capitale, où certains décideurs (Kombouaré et Leonardo en tête) sont contrariés par la convocation de leur pépite sud-américaine pour deux matches amicaux face au Venezuela et au Nigeria, programmés en Inde et au Bangladesh. «Leonardo ne voulait pas que je fasse ce voyage, mais j'irai parce que je ne pourrai jamais renoncer à une convocation de l'équipe nationale. Man U new sponsor... It worth it !

Manchester United will receive 40 million pounds ($66 million) from express delivery and freight firm DHL as English football's first training kit sponsor.

The subsidiary of Germany's Deutsche Post AG has signed a deal worth around 10 million pounds ($16.5 million) for each of the four years of the sponsorship, surpassing the value of most Premier League rivals' main jersey deals.

United's matchday kits are still sponsored by Chicago-based insurance broker Aon Corp. in a four-year deal worth around 80 million pounds ($130 million) for the record 19-time English champions.

The latest sponsorship announcement came a week after it emerged that United's owning Glazer family have submitted an application for a partial flotation on the Singapore stock exchange to help cut the club's debts of more than 500 million pounds ($825 million).

The DHL deal is the latest sign of the strength of United's global appeal, with commercial revenue now exceeding 100 million pounds ($165 million) each year for the American-owned club.

“This deal breaks new ground in the English game,” United chief executive David Gill said in a statement Monday. “We are delighted that DHL has extended its partnership with the club to include the training kit.”

DHL, which has been United's official logistics partner for a year, will only appear on training kit worn by United players ahead of domestic fixtures.

“This is a deal that continues to demonstrate the club's position as the most innovative and successful in the game,” United commercial director Richard Arnold said.

The club has been steadily raising commercial revenue by negotiating regional sponsorship agreements.

In addition to the DHL sponsorship, United on Monday announced a three-year deal with Vietnamese mobile telecommunications company Beeline to distribute video and news content on phones in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

“Manchester United has always been at the forefront of the game off the pitch as well as on it and this partnership is another example of that,” manager Alex Ferguson said.

The Glazers also own the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Danny Welbeck Inspires Manchester United To Beat Tottenham Hotspur

This game looked as if it had been recycled despite the freshness of the season. Although Tottenham Hotspur held out until the last 30 minutes, the defeat was still comprehensive. These visitors continue to be without a league win at Old Trafford since 1989 and Manchester United, the reigning champions, have set off in pursuit of a 20th title.

The familiarity of it all was a delight to the home support, supplying yet more evidence that United have already been rejuvenated. For a period Tottenham had some effect in keeping them off balance by mounting regular attacks but it was not sustained beyond the interval. Although Spurs hit the post with an attempt from Jermain Defoe after United's goalkeeper, David de Gea, had dealt poorly with a cross Sir Alex Ferguson's side led 2-0 by then.

Old Trafford regularly stages an endurance test and Tottenham were to flag like so many before them. The revitalisation of United is intriguing but it also leaves scope for old-timers to make their mark. Ryan Giggs, at 37, came off the bench and crossed for Wayne Rooney to head in the last goal three minutes from the close.

There was no consolation for Tottenham but other clubs will have noted that De Gea, the 20-year-old newcomer, continues to have shaky moments, even if he could afford them on this occasion. He certainly revealed audacity when he shimmied away from Jermain Defoe and was fouled in front of his posts but it was still a peculiar and needless risk to take.

Such quirks can probably be discouraged and they have done no serious harm yet. United will be right to dwell instead on the effectiveness of someone like Danny Welbeck. He scored the goal that broke the deadlock. With 61 minutes gone Tom Cleverley's cross from deep on the right was a good, swinging delivery but the marking was lax and Welbeck got in front of Michael Dawson to head home.

United were instantly at ease and shortly Brad Friedel had to tip a set piece from Rooney round the post. Welbeck showed off more of his repertoire when backheeling the ball to Anderson in an accomplished exchange that saw the Brazilian score the second after 76 minutes.

The visitors had at least shown stern resistance on another front since it seems that Luka Modric, who was far from being in the correct frame of mind and had no role at Old Trafford, will not be permitted to move to Chelsea. Apart from any issue of principle Tottenham can hardly do without him and, whatever the midfielder's frame of mind, there may be no option but to resume his work for Harry Redknapp's side.

It says much for United's status that the absence of almost all the usual back four, with Patrice Evra alone in action, was not much of a handicap. Though the hosts pressed to some extent in the first half, Redknapp's side were not on the verge of panic, even if they trembled slightly when a chip by Rooney picked out Anderson and the midfielder headed beyond the post after 29 minutes.

United were unlikely to buckle under any feeling of frustration on this pitch. They are unbeaten at home in the Premier League since Chelsea took full points in April 2010. Tottenham, on the face of it, lacked either the resilience to keep the opposition in check or the flair to knock them off balance, yet Niko Kranjcar had excelled in a 5-0 defeat of Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle in the Europa League qualifier last week. Rafael van der Vaart had flourished then.

He was eventually removed here. A Tynecastle evening naturally cannot stand comparison with the challenge of Old Trafford but initially Tottenham did look a team in good spirits. This was their first Premier League fixture of the campaign, following postponement of their scheduled opener at home to Everton after the riots, and for a time they seemed resolute as well as fresh.

Their spirit was strong for a while but the necessary incisiveness was lacking. It would be glib to pretend that Modric, single-handed, could have delivered it. That would be fanciful. There is a certain familiarity about Redknapp's hankering for the bustle and intrigue of the transfer market but Tottenham do need to be bolstered. Failing that, the likelihood is that they will settle nearer the middle of the table, with the recollection of a Champions League campaign fading slowly.

These matters are not a subject for glib conclusions. The club's wish for financial stability cannot be mocked but it also has to be squared with the crucial task of assuring supporters that Tottenham will not drift. It is entirely normal, of course, that a visit to Old Trafford should bring on a bout of reflection. Tottenham will be far from the last side to leave this ground in a rueful mood.

Depuis jeudi dernier, et le match face au FC Differdange, les observateurs ainsi que les supporters du Paris Saint-Germain peuvent le voir à l’œuvre. Lui, c’est bien sûr Javier Pastore, le joueur le plus cher de l’histoire de la Ligue 1 (42 M€). Recruté pour sublimer le jeu des Rouge-et-Bleu, El Flaco n’est pas encore en pleine possession de ses moyens, mais le meilleur semble à venir. À l’aise face aux Luxembourgeois, le meneur argentin doit désormais retrouver une bonne condition physique pour briller sur les pelouses de Ligue 1.
Mais tout cela ne l’effraie pas vraiment. Interrogé par ESPN Radio, l’ancien Palermitain a évoqué ses débuts avec sa nouvelle équipe avant d’expliquer à nouveau les raisons qui l’ont poussé à préférer le PSG à un club comme Chelsea. « Jusqu’à présent, les choses se passent bien. Nous avons gagné les deux derniers matches et l’équipe a prouvé qu’elle se bat partout où elle est engagée. C’est un projet très intéressant qui m’a fait venir, mais aussi Leonardo qui a beaucoup discuté avec moi pour m’expliquer ce qu’il attendait de moi. Il m’a contacté après le match de coupe d’Italie Inter-Palerme. C’est depuis ce jour qu’il me voulait. »
Attendu comme le messie par tout le Parc des Princes, Pastore a également été mis au parfum quant à la tradition de joueurs sud-américains au PSG. « On me parle beaucoup des Argentins qui sont passés par là. Pour Heinze, on m’a dit que c’était une grande personne et un excellent défenseur. On m’a aussi parlé de Pochettino, Sorin, Gallardo et de Ronaldinho, des joueurs qui ont donné du rêve aux supporters, mais aussi à leurs partenaires. »
Bien décidé à faire partie de ces stars ayant marqué l’histoire du club de la capitale, le natif de Cordoba semble en tout cas apprécier la Ligue 1. « Le football français est un beau football. Ça joue bien et il y a de grands joueurs dans le championnat. Je ne remarque pas beaucoup de différences par rapport au football italien. J’ai des coéquipiers qui parlent espagnol, d’autres l’italien. Je suis très ami avec le gardien (Salvatore Sirigu, Ndlr) parce que nous avons joué ensemble à Palerme. Mais je le mets au français pour qu’on apprenne. » En attendant de voir s’il répondra aux énormes attentes qu’il suscite, Pastore a dévoilé les secrets de son nº 27.« Le 27, c’est le numéro préféré de ma maman, c’est pour ça que je le porte. Late Liverpool goals sink Arsenal at the Emirates + Highlights at the bottom

Liverpool won the first heavyweight clash of the English Premier League season as an Aaron Ramsey own goal and a late strike from substitute Luis Suarez gave Kenny Dalglish's men a 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium Saturday.

The opener after 78 minutes owed much to good fortune as Uruguay international Suarez was attempting to flick the ball back and it cannoned off the young Welsh international Ramsey and into the net.

Moments before, Arsenal had been reduced to 10 men as Emmanuel Frimpong was shown red for a second yellow card, the second dismissal of the campaign for Arsene Wenger's men with Gervinho going in the 0-0 draw at Newcastle last week.

A man short and with 12 minutes remaining, Arsenal were finally sunk as Raul Meireles set up his fellow replacement Suarez for an easy tap-in.

In a game of few chances, Pepe Reina in the Liverpool goal was rarely tested, but had to save sharply from Frimpong in the first half and from Robin van Persie midway through the second half.

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll had a shot that glanced the woodwork, while Stewart Downing tested home keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Defeat capped a miserable week for the Gunners, who have seen star midfielder Cesc Fabregas depart to Barcelona, while Samir Nasri, who started against Liverpool, is linked with a move to Manchester City.

PARIS (AFP) - Transformé à coups de millions d'euros en une machine censée dominer la Ligue 1, le nouveau Paris SG est encore très loin de tourner à pleine puissance, au contraire de Kevin Gameiro, qui n'a pas mis très longtemps avant de prendre ses marques dans son nouveau club.

Dimanche face à Valenciennes au Parc des Princes, le PSG est condamné à gagner. Tout autre résultat ne ferait qu'alimenter l'incertitude autour de l'entraîneur Antoine Kombouaré, dont la survie, malgré les dénégations répétées du directeur sportif Leonardo, dépend en grande partie des prestations de ses recrues.

Or, elles sont jusque-là largement insuffisantes par rapport à l'investissement pharaonique consenti par les nouveaux actionnaires qataris (80 millions d'euros) en à peine un mois. Des huit nouveaux arrivants (avec Pastore, Ménez, Matuidi, Sissoko, Bisevac, Sirigu, Douchez), Gameiro est celui qui semble le plus à l'aise -avec Sirigu-, avec deux buts en trois apparitions (un en L1, un en Europa League) malgré l'immense attente et la pression régnant autour du PSG.

A 24 ans, c'est pourtant un cap dangereux que tente de franchir Gameiro, jusque-là habitué des clubs de seconde zone (Strasbourg, Lorient). L'enjeu est simple: ne pas brider à Paris une progression linéaire sur le plan comptable (17 buts en 2009-10, 22 en 2010-11) qui l'a positionné comme la doublure attitrée de Karim Benzema en équipe de France.

En terrain conquis

Sa chance est d'arriver en terrain conquis à Paris, encore marqué par les errements et l'inefficacité chronique du duo Erding-Hoarau la saison dernière. Le sort des deux hommes est de toute façon scellé. L'attaquant turc devrait quitter le PSG pour Rennes et Hoarau est voué à disparaître du onze de départ avec l'incorporation progressive de Javier Pastore et les maladresses qu'il accumule devant le but.

La place de l'avant-centre N.1 est ainsi garantie à Gameiro. Mais pour combien de temps ? Rien ne dit que Leonardo ne lui mettra pas un attaquant de renom dans les pattes pour remplacer numériquement Erding.

Le nom de Raul commence ainsi à circuler, même si le légendaire buteur espagnol a repoussé une première approche. Samedi, le journal Le Parisien évoquait l'intérêt du PSG pour l'Argentin de l'Inter Milan Diego Milito, double buteur en finale de la Ligue des champions 2010.

Les moyens illimités du PSG et les nouvelles hautes ambitions du club ne sont donc pas des garanties pour Gameiro, au contraire. L'ancien Merlu peut à tout moment être confronté à l'arrivée d'une pointure à son poste.

Là réside le principal risque pour le N.19 parisien. Son but en Ukraine (4-1 en match amical, le 6 juin) conjugué aux malheurs de Hoarau ont convaincu le sélectionneur Laurent Blanc d'en faire un membre à part entière des Bleus à moins d'un an de l'Euro-2012.

Mais cette promotion dépend pour une large part de sa capacité à conserver durablement son statut de titulaire au PSG.

Google+ Hangouts can now be initiated from YouTube .../Social Media

Google has quietly rolled out yet another feature of its Google+ social network: Click on the Share button under any YouTube video to reveal an icon that suggests watching the video with friends in a Google+ hangout.

Google didn’t formally announce this new feature, instead revealing it via product manager Brian Glick on — where else — Google+, where he casually mentioned it like so:

You can now start a Google+ Hangout with a YouTube video, directly from YouTube. Watch with your friends. :)
Just click on “Share” underneath any video, and then click on “Start a Google+ Hangout” in the bottom right-hand corner.

A few weeks ago, YouTube Live product manager Brandon Badge quietly mentioned the upcoming ability to enable hangouts from YouTube with live streaming video, and this must be the first stage of that initiative.

As we mentioned then, it’s been possible to watch videos with friends since the beginning of Google+, through a more complicated manual process that must be initiated in Google+. But this new button allowing you to initiate hangouts from YouTube with a couple of clicks makes it considerably easier.

It should have been a Super Sunday. The season was due to kick off with Spain's other clásico between two of only three clubs to have spent their entire histories in the first division. At 6pm, it was Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao, the latter under the new management of the fascinating Marcelo Bielsa. Then, at 8pm, there was a chance to see La Liga's latest force, Qatari-owned Málaga, with nine new signings and the league's third biggest budget, take on Barcelona at home. And finally, at 10pm, Real Betis were to make their top-flight return – against city rivals Sevilla in the most passionate derby in the country.

It should have been special but La Liga will not start this weekend. The players' union, the AFE, is in dispute with the league, the LFP, and has declared a strike. La Liga may not even start next weekend: the original proposal was for a two-week walkout, although meetings are scheduled to try to avoid industrial action dragging on. In fact, it may be extended further: there has been talk of an indefinite stoppage. There have been many strike threats, including two last season alone. The surprise is that this one will go ahead.

Meetings were arranged for Friday morning but both sides knew that even if there was an agreement, it would probably be too late to begin the season. In any case, they were so far apart that agreement was impossible. For the first time in 27 years, a players' strike would happen in Spain.

There was a different feel to these threats from the start. When the AFE president José Luis Rubiales announced the players' intentions he sat before a "team photo" of almost 100 footballers – including the Spain captain Iker Casillas, Carles Puyol, David Villa and Xabi Alonso. It was an impressive show of strength and an important one. The league president, José Luis Astiazarán, called the AFE's action blackmail, but the reasons were clear.

The LFP and the AFE have been negotiating over an agreement to cover labour relations between workers (the players) and their companies (the clubs) for some time. There are a number of minor stumbling blocks relating to image rights, commercial marketing ventures and international breaks, but the key issue is simple. The players' union wanted a central fund put in place to protect players when clubs fail to pay them. The LFP agreed with the principle but in practice they were a long way apart.

Rubiales demanded a fund big enough to protect all unpaid wages to all players. The LFP offered €10m (£8.6m) a year. That, responded Rubiales, would not be enough to cover the debts already accumulated in 2010-2011, let alone in the future. "This is not about making more money," he said. "We are not demanding more, we are demanding only that players get paid what it says in their contracts." Players like Casillas and Puyol may not have had problems and could easily survive if a couple of payments went astray, but they are the exception not the rule in a country where many players make comparatively small amounts.

According to Rubiales, more than 200 players have experienced salaries being paid late or not at all. Last season €50m worth of wages went unpaid. The season before it was €12m.

Spanish football is in financial crisis. Betis, Zaragoza, Racing Santander, Rayo Vallecano, Hércules, Córdoba and Recreativo de Huelva are in administration. Over the past few years 22 of the 42 clubs in Spain's top two divisions have passed through administration at one stage or another.

Part of the reason is that there is no sporting penalty for economic mismanagement: administration becomes an opportunity rather than a problem for some club owners – the chance not to pay players or other clubs. The AFE has succeeded in bringing a proposed law before the senate to enforce relegation on clubs who do not pay but there is still €52.8m to be recovered from last year alone. The problem, Astiazarán notes, is that the LFP simply cannot offer what it does not have.

So the big day is postponed. For fans of Málaga, Betis and promoted Rayo in particular, it is a blow, but most sympathise with the players.

The next issue will be how to find a way of recovering the lost round of games in a tightly packed season – not least because the LFP does not want clubs making up their games in hand in piecemeal fashion. It prefers to have a whole round of matches. The proposal is not to move all the fixtures on a week but rather to keep them as they are and play week one's fixtures on 27 and 28 December, eating into the traditional Christmas break.

Probably evidence for the fake account argument but it's nice to think there might be some goodwill there.

9. Paul Scholes – You know Paul Scholes, man of few words, does his talking on the pitch and so on? He's on Twitter, catch him writing about Chinese takeaway, Britain's Got Talent and bacon sandwiches. Again, this one has all the hallmarks of an imposter, the ginger assassin doesn't seem a Britain's Got Talent kind of guy to me.

10. Cristiano Ronaldo – If you don't like Cristiano Ronaldo, his attitude, his petulance, his arrogance, then this might be the CR7/9 source for you. It's all in Portuguese. I can only imagine his most recent post reads 'he tried to bring me down but I stayed on my feet' or, 'I implored him not to but he reached in to his pocket and sent the defender off'.

Pour les premiers pas de Javier Pastore, le Paris SG s’est facilement imposé sur le terrain de Differdange en barrages aller de la Ligue Europa (0-4). Le retour dans une semaine au Parc des Princes s’annonce tranquille.

Opposé à la modeste formation de Differdange, le Paris SG n’a guère tremblé pour décrocher une victoire logique et méritée au Luxembourg (0-4). Un succès qui assure d’ores et déjà - sauf catastrophe dans une semaine au Parc des Princes - la présence du club francilien en phase de poules de la Ligue Europa. Il fallait toutefois du temps aux hommes d’Antoine Kombouaré pour prendre la mesure d’une équipe recroquevillée dans ses vingt-cinq derniers mètres. Après un quart d’heure d’approximations, Javier Pastore – titulaire d’entrée – et consorts parvenaient à passer la vitesse supérieure. L’Argentin s’offrait lui-même la première occasion franche du PSG au terme d’une combinaison avec Menez, sans parvenir à la concrétiser (16e). A l’inverse de Gameiro qui bénéficiait d’une frappe contrée de Matuidi pour crucifier Weber (0-1, 17e). Bien lancés, les Parisiens paraissaient en mesure de se mettre rapidement à l’abri. Menez, quant à lui, frôlait le cadre adverse sur un coup-franc plein axe (44e).

Avec un seul but d’avance à la pause, Paris se devait de retrouver au plus vite son efficacité face au but pour assurer sa qualification. D’autant que Differdange, sur ses rares occasions, présentait une réelle menace. Ainsi, Sirigu devait s’employer pour empêcher Bettmer (37e) et surtout Jänisch (47e) d’égaliser. Comme en première période, le PSG avait besoin de temps avant d’affirmer sa supériorité. Une fois l’orage passé, Menez (60e) et Gameiro (66e) ramenaient le danger dans la surface d’un Weber en état de grâce. Ce dernier finissait par s’avouer vaincu sur une reprise à bout-portant de Bahebeck (0-2, 71e), même s’il se montrait encore décisif face à Pastore quelques instants plus tard (73e). A 0-2, la messe était dite et la fin de match s’avérait très compliquée pour les Luxembourgeois, à la recherche de leur second souffle. Le joueur du match
Après des débuts timides contre Lorient, Jérémy Menez monte peu à peu en puissance sous ses nouvelles couleurs. Passeur décisif à Rennes, l’ancien Romain s’est mué en buteur en toute fin de rencontre. Une réalisation qui récompense son activité sur son couloir droit. Au passage, il a montré un début de complicité avec Javier Pastore qui pourrait s’avérer prometteuse à moyen terme.

On n’a pas aimé
Même s’il a marqué, Jean-Christophe Bahebeck a peiné à s’illustrer dans le jeu parisien. La faute en revient en partie à son association avec Siaka Tiéné côté gauche, qui n’a pas fait ses preuves. Avec une rude concurrence au milieu de terrain, le néo professionnel n'a pas vraiment marqué de points au Luxembourg en multipliant les mauvais choix dans ses intentions offensives.

Tottenham showed no signs of rustiness in their first competitive game of the season as they demolished Hearts in their Europa League play-off first leg.

Rafael van der Vaart opened the scoring on five minutes when he slotted in after Hearts failed to clear.Jermain Defoe and Jake Livermore added similar goals with Van der Vaart involved in good build-up play.

Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon then completed the rout when they scored on the counter attack.

There could have been more goals for Harry Redknapp's side with Defoe also hitting the bar in the first half despite being flagged offside.

But the performance showed that rather than suffering from a lack of meaningful action after their Premier League match against Everton was cancelled because of riots in north London, they had a real appetite to get their season up and running.

The goals from five different scorers came on a night when Spurs were hampered by injury, but they passed the ball around with ease in a dominant display.

It may be stretching it to say the victory showed they would be able to cope without midfielder Luka Modric, who has been linked with Chelsea, such was the lack of bite from the hosts.

Yet the emergence of Livermore, alongside Niko Kranjcar, will give watching supporters reason to think the future is bright.

All evening the hosts struggled to pick up Van der Vaart, who was playing behind Defoe and had a hand in all three first-half goals.

His influence dictated the tempo of their attacks, yet once Spurs had taken a two-goal lead the game was shorn of its edge and gaps appeared all over the park.

Bale had already looked menacing down the left before Spurs went ahead and the goals before the break all began on that flank.

Defoe cut in to play a one-two with Van der Vaart but when the ball bounced off a defender and Marius Zaliukas failed to clear, it dropped to the Dutchman, who calmly finished.

Next it was Kranjcar who found Van der Vaart, and when he slipped the ball to Livermore, the 21-year-old created space for Defoe to prod home.

Livermore then crowned a fine display when he scored his first Tottenham goal, with Van der Vaart again the architect and Defoe playing the final pass.

The first meaningful effort by Paulo Sergio's side came on 38 minutes when Ryan Stevenson cut in from the left and fired wide of the post.

But despite the gulf in class between the two teams, the newly-appointed Portuguese coach will have been disappointed by Hearts' lack of pressure on the ball.

They rallied briefly after half-time when a succession of corners created some cheer for the home supporters who had began the game in good voice.

Twice Michael Dawson cleared, however, and when Andy Driver's goal-bound cross was diverted over by Stevenson, it summed up a miserable night for the Scottish team.

Just after the hour, Bale collected Benoit Assou Ekotto's lofted pass to round Marian Kello and put the second leg next Thursday beyond all doubt.

Lennon then added the gloss when he tucked in Defoe's cross after a smart pass on the counter attack by substitute Andros Townsend.

Manchester City are on the verge of signing Arsenal winger Samir Nasri for around £25 million, according to widespread reports.

The deal could be finalised in the next 24 hours, with Nasri due to undergo a medical in Manchester before signing a five-year deal.

Nasri, who has scored 27 goals in 124 appearances for Arsenal since leaving Marseille in 2008, is into the final year of his contract and has rejected a new deal at the Emirates.

The transfer of the France international will take Roberto Mancini's summer spending to £77 million. City have already landed Sergio Aguero for a club record £39 million and splashed out a combined fee of £13 million on Stefan Savic and Gael Clichy.

Nasri would become the second high-profile departure from Arsenal this week after captainCesc Fabregas finally rejoined boyhood-club Barcelona.

However, Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is "sure'' manager Arsene Wenger will strengthen the squad with the money he has received this summer.

"We have to win something this season,'' Walcott said. "It is important to have a mixture of experience and young players - but the boss knows what he is doing. He has picked up great players before. Only time will tell what he is going to do.

Le jour J est enfin arrivé pour Javier Pastore. Ou plutôt pour les supporters parisiens. C'est en effet ce jeudi que le milieu de terrain argentin va effectuer ses grands débuts sous le maillot du PSG. Antoine Kombouaré souhaite voir à l'oeuvre l'international albiceleste face à Differdange à l'occasion des barrages aller de la Ligue Europa.

Face à Differdange ce jeudi au Luxembourg en match aller des barrages de la Ligue Europa (20h45), tous les regards seront braqués sur un seul homme : Javier Pastore. Débarqué tardivement en provenance de Palerme cet été pour 42 millions d'euros, l'homme le plus cher de l'histoire de la Ligue 1 va effectuer ses grands débuts sous le maillot du Paris Saint-Germain.

Appelé pour la première fois dans le groupe, l'international albiceleste pourrait même être amené à débuter la rencontre, si Antoine Kombouaré le sent d'attaque. Quoi qu'il en soit, l'entraîneur du club de la capitale a hâte de voir sa recrue phare de l'été à l'oeuvre.

Another fantastic footballing spectacle between arguably the best two sides in Europe was again overshadowed by the antics of Mourinho, who thrust a finger in the eye of Barca assistant Tito Vilanova in a melee in the closing stages.

Mourinho, who will this season serve a touchline ban in Champions League fixtures after comments made about Barça last season, could now face further action yet instead chose to question the Catalans' sporting morals post-game.

The Portuguese was particularly unhappy that the ball-boys appeared to disappear after half-time with the home side 2-1 up on the night and 4-3 ahead on aggregate.

He said: "Real Madrid gave a spectacular performance from the first to the last minute.

"We came here to play. What I'm about to say is not a criticism, I'm just stating a fact: there were no ball-boys in the second half, which is something typical of small teams when experiencing difficulties.

"I'm not going to say we're happy because we didn't win the Spanish Super Cup, that would be hypocritical of me.

"But we intended to play like men and not fall on the ground at the slightest touch."

The sub-plot came at the end of a wonderful game which saw Barça twice take the lead through Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema replying.

But, with extra-time looming, Barça won it when Messi volleyed home Adriano's right-wing cross.

Madrid's frustration then spilled over with Marcelo sent-off for a crude tackle on debutant Cesc Fabregas, on from the bench, which sparked a bust-up which saw Mourinho's clash with Vilanova and red cards for substituted players David Villa and Mesut Ozil.

Barça central defender Gerard Pique was clear in his opinion on where the blame lay.

"I do not talk about the brawl. But it's a shame, it is not the first time and it's always the same," said the Spain international.

"Someone has to take action on the matter. Mourinho is destroying Spanish football. There is talk about the Catalans, but the problem is with Madrid.

"I think it's going too far. It cannot always end well. In the end this will end very badly."

Mourinho's opposite number Pep Guardiola did not wade into the issue but had a word of caution for those involved in the tense atmosphere on the pitch.

"The images speak for themselves," he said.

"We must be careful, because one day we will cause harm, not on the field but off, and we're all a little responsible for this. "

When asked about his run in with Vilanova, Mourinho sad: "I have been taught to play like a man and not to fall first. Vilanova...I don't know who he is."

Despite the controversy, Mourinho feels his team are getting closer to Barça, who pipped Madrid to the Primera Division title last season and knocked them out of the Champions League at the last-four stage.

He added: "We feel like we played two very good games in their entirety. This team is better than it was last year.

"The longer you work with people, the better the conditions are to have a better year.

"We played nine games this pre-season and proved to be better than we were last year in the last two.

"I'm happy with the progress my men have made."

Gary Cahill has long been sought after by the Premier League’s top clubs and it now appears that Liverpool may have come up with a deal which will tempt Bolton boss Owen Coyle.

According to the Sun, Kenny Dalglish is poised to offer £10million plus striker David Ngog on a permanent deal and young starlet Raheem Sterling on loan, to secure the services of the 25-year-old centre half.

Reportedly Cahill is valued at around £17million by Bolton and despite being linked with a move to Merseyside throughout the summer, Bolton have yet to receive an official bid for the player.

Reportedly both Arsenal and Manchester City have been tracking Cahill, but Liverpool could land his services by offering one of Bolton’s targets as part of the deal.

Coyle has long been an admirer of Ngog and has been after him for some time after the Frenchman was told he was surplus to requirements at Anfield.

The Trotters boss has also enjoyed success over the last two seasons in bringing young English players to the club on loan, so the chance to work with Sterling may interest Coyle, although at 16 he is much younger than previous loan signings Jack Wilshire and Daniel Sturridge.

Speaking at the weekend after his side’s 4-0 win at QPR, Coyle said that “it would not be ideal” to lose Cahill, but he is aware that selling his prized asset will allow him to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window.

If Dalglish can persuade Bolton to part with Cahill it will provide the solid defensive base the Scot has been looking for.

The Anfield club are currently 11/1 to win the Premier League title this season.

But Dalglish knows if this is to become a reality he must strengthen a defence which conceded 15 goals in five pre-season outings and which was unable to keep a clean sheet in their Premier League opener at home to Sunderland.

The live streaming is available only to people aged 18 and over, claims Budweiser.

Consumers whose Facebook profiles are under 18, will not be able to access the dedicated Budweiser fan page.

The reason the match can be streamed via Facebook is that preliminary round FA Cup matches do not have broadcasting rights holders.

ITV and ESPN are the broadcast rights holders for this year’s competition, and will screen matches once the first round begins.

La rumeur Ancelotti. « PSG-Ancelotti : contact établi », proclame L’Équipe en une ce mercredi. « Hier, [Leonardo] […] a contacté Carlo Ancelotti, l’entraîneur italien, pour savoir s’il serait, éventuellement, intéressé pour diriger le PSG en cas de nouvelle contre-performance, dimanche prochain, contre Valenciennes. De sources proches de l’actionnaire qatari, Ancelotti (51 ans) ne serait pas contre l’idée de débarquer à Paris, même si les deux parties ne sont pas encore d’accord. Limogé de Chelsea en fin de saison dernière
[…], il désire toujours entraîner à l’étranger et la France, même si elle ne constituait pas sa priorité cet été et qu’il avait évoqué le projet d’une année sabbatique, pourrait le tenter. Surtout à Paris. […] Avant de prendre contact avec lui, Leonardo s’était entretenu, jeudi dernier, avec Nasser al-Khelaifi pour évoquer l’hypothèse d’un changement d’entraîneur dans les prochaines semaines. Le nom d’Ancelotti avait alors été soufflé et les Qataris ne semblaient pas forcément opposés à son arrivée. »
De son côté, RMC Sport affirmait mardi soir, après que le quotidien sportif avait déjà évoqué cette rumeur, que « Carlo Ancelotti ne viendra pas au PSG cette saison ». « L’ancien coach du Milan AC et de Chelsea privilégie la piste d’un club anglais, précisait l’agence. S’il ne trouve pas de point de chute outre-Manche, Ancelotti prendra une année sabbatique. »
Dans les commentaires de son blog hébergé par RMC, Daniel Riolo indique qu’il en a discuté avec l’entraîneur italien : « Parce que c’est toujours mieux de demander aux gens plutôt que d’inventer des inutiles feuilletons (sic), je peux vous dire qu’Ancelotti ne viendra pas au PSG… Pas en cours de saison en tout cas. […] Après, les feuilletons peuvent continuer, on peut continuer à parler de coups de pied dans les sacs, on peut continuer à demander aux vigiles du Camp des Loges si [Kombouaré] a bien serré la main de tout le monde ce matin, si Nenê n’a pas fait pipi à côté, oui on peut faire son métier comme ça aussi… Mais on peut aussi parler foot avec Ancelotti. »
Le PSG s’intéresserait à Bendtner. Ce mercredi, le Daily Mail assure que le PSG s’est renseigné sur l’attaquant d’Arsenal Nicklas Bendtner (23 ans), pour qui les Gunners demanderaient £11m, soit 12,5 M€. Le quotidien britannique ajoute que ses représentants ont discuté avec Stoke, Newcastle et Sunderland, mais que ceux-ci ne sont pas prêts à payer le prix demandé par Arsenal.

Le reste de l’actu du jour

Nenê-Kombouaré : le Parisien contredit L’Équipe. Lundi, L’Équipe jugeait utile de mettre à l’honneur de sa page 2 l’incident ayant opposé Nenê à Antoine Kombouaré samedi soir, à l’issue du match Rennes-PSG. « C’est de ne pas être entré en jeu samedi soir qui a mis le joueur dans tous ses états, affirmait le quotidien sportif sans la moindre précaution de langage. Aussitôt de retour dans les vestiaires du stade de la route de Lorient, le milieu de terrain brésilien de 30 ans a tapé du pied dans la table posée au milieu et dans les malles d’équipements, sous le regard étonné de certains coéquipiers, comme un gamin qui veut casser tous ses jouets parce que ses parents l’ont privé de télé. Puis il a râlé, pesté, maugréé parce qu’il était resté scotché sur le banc, parce que l’entraîneur n’avait pas été gentil avec lui… […] La tension […] s’est poursuivie, le ton est encore grimpé d’un cran, les visages se sont un peu plus rapprochés l’un de l’autre sans pour autant franchir la ligne jaune. »
Deux jours plus tard, le Parisien revient sur cette affaire avec des informations très différentes sur le déroulement des événements : « On en sait davantage aujourd’hui sur les circonstances de la dispute de samedi soir, estime le quotidien francilien ce mercredi. Après le match, dans les vestiaires, c’est Antoine Kombouaré qui a parlé le premier, reprochant aux joueurs l’égalisation rennaise à deux minutes de la fin du temps réglementaire sur une erreur d’inattention. Très mécontent de son équipe, le technicien s’en est également pris à Nenê, coupable, selon lui, de faire la tête parce qu’il n’avait pas joué. Le Brésilien lui a alors répondu en substance : “Ah, c’est de ma faute si on a fait match nul…” Cette réponse ironique a eu le don d’agacer profondément Kombouaré, qui a alors tapé dans la table située devant lui. »
Nenê sanctionné… ou préservé ? L’Équipe et le Parisien n’en finissent plus de se contredire sur le cas Nenê, non convoqué pour le déplacement au Luxembourg ce jeudi : « Il ne sera pas du voyage [car] Kombouaré n’a voulu prendre aucun risque avec sa cheville droite douloureuse », assure le quotidien sportif.
« L’entraîneur parisien, en opérant ce choix, sanctionne son milieu gauche », affirme au contraire le journal de Saint-Ouen, qui précise que « selon son entourage, [Nenê] a conscience d’avoir franchi la ligne jaune le week-end dernier et donc de mériter une punition ». Et d’ajouter : « Depuis, les choses sont rentrées dans l’ordre. Et l’on peut supposer qu’en fin de semaine Kombouaré devrait de nouveau faire confiance à Nenê pour la réception de Valenciennes, dimanche après-midi au Parc des Princes. »
Pastore pas encore prêt pour le championnat ? À l’arrivée de Javier Pastore, Antoine Kombouaré assurait que l’Argentin ne jouerait pas avec le PSG avant le mois de septembre. Quinze jours plus tard, le voilà déjà dans le groupe pour le match aller des barrages de la Ligue Europa. Mais selon le Parisien, il ne faut pas s’attendre à voir Pastore fouler la pelouse du Parc des Princes dès dimanche face à VA, malgré les réclames du club de la capitale (« PSG-Valenciennes au Parc, ce sera peut-être […] le premier match de Pastore au Parc des Princes. […] Ne manquez pas ça : réservez vos places pour ce match à partir de 20 € sans plus tarder. […] Vous aussi, vous pourrez dire “J’y étais”. »)
« Quelles sont les raisons qui ont poussé l’entraîneur à anticiper d’environ deux semaines la date de la grande première ? Les explications tiennent autant aux prestations du joueur à l’entraînement qu’au faible calibre de l’adversaire, estime ainsi le quotidien francilien. […] L’Argentin est encore loin d’être compétitif. Pas question de se jeter dès dimanche dans l’arène du Parc des Princes, face à Valenciennes, sauf circonstances exceptionnelles. Pastore et les décideurs parisiens y auraient trop à perdre. D’où l’idée de lui donner du temps de jeu face à un adversaire modeste, l’équivalent d’une équipe de 4e ou 5e division française. »
De son côté, L’Équipe avance trois éléments : « Differdange, a priori, se présente plus comme un match de préparation que comme un gros combat européen » ; « quand il le peut, Kombouaré prend toujours soin de faire commencer ses recrues à l’extérieur, pour leur éviter une première à domicile, sous pression » ; enfin Kombouaré doit déjà faire sans Nenê, Hoarau, Jallet, Sakho, Jallet, Sissoko et Armand.
Differdange-PSG : six absents côté parisien. Le site officiel du PSG a communiqué mardi la liste des dix-huit Parisiens qui se déplaceront à Luxembourg jeudi soir. Sakho (cuisse droite), Jallet (cuisse droite), Hoarau (crête iliaque gauche), Armand (genou), Sissoko (à court de forme) et Nenê sont absents. L’Équipe annonce l’équipe probable suivante : Sirigu — Tiéné, Camara, Bisevac, Cearà — Bahebeck, Chantôme, Matuidi, Ménez — Bodmer, Erding (ou Gameiro).
Les primes de performances en championnat. Ce mercredi, le Parisien révèle les montants des primes sur lesquelles « les représentants des joueurs et Leonardo sont presque tombés d’accord », mais qui ne sont donc pas entérinés.
Selon le quotidien francilien, l’effectif parisien se partagerait « près de 7,5 M€ » — soit « un peu plus de 300 K€ par joueur » — s’il termine champion de France en 2012, contre 5 M€ la saison dernière. Le pactole serait respectivement de 6,5 M€ ou de 6 M€ en cas de deuxième ou troisième place, là encore en hausse de 2,5 M€ par rapport à l’an passé.
Enfin la prime de victoire en L1 serait de 4 K€, contre 3 K€ en 2010/2011. « Le système incitatif — qui permet de gonfler les gains si les succès s’enchaînent — a été abandonné, [de même que] la prime relative à un match nul à l’extérieur (1 K€ la saison passée) », précise le journal.
UEFA 2010/2011 : le PSG a touché 3,8 M€ sur 904,5 M€. En 2010/2011, les 80 clubs ayant participé aux phases finales des coupes d’Europe se sont partagé près d’un milliard d’euros de recettes (904 M€) en primes de performances et droits TV. Ce mardi, l’UEFA a annoncé la répartition club par club de ces montants faramineux, dont la Ligue des champions s’est accaparé l’immense majorité (83 %). Leonardo et le centre de formation. « Pour la première fois depuis son arrivée au club il y a un mois, [Leonardo] a rencontré hier au Camp des Loges les responsables du centre de formation », indique le Parisien ce mercredi. La semaine dernière, le quotidien indiquait déjà que « la première réunion [de Leonardo] avec les responsables du centre de formation a eu lieu hier ». Le centre de formation du PSG est dirigé par Bertrand Reuzeau, qui entraînait également l’équipe réserve en CFA la saison passée.
France U17 : 4 Parisiens sélectionnés. Quatre joueurs du PSG ont été convoqués en équipe de France U17 pour participer au stage de présélection du 21 au 25 août : Mike Maignan (gardien, 10 matches en U16), Adrien Rabiot (milieu, 2 matches en U16), Franck Bambock (milieu, 11 matches et 2 buts en U16) et Hervin Ongenda (attaquant, 11 matches et 8 buts en U16). Quel niveau pour le championnat du Luxembourg ? Sur Football 365, Stéphane Léoni — ancien joueur de Metz et Sedan notamment, aujourd’hui à Differdange — estime que le championnat luxembourgeois « n’est peut-être pas du niveau du National, mais plus CFA ».
« Assurer la qualification dès jeudi. » Face aux amateurs de Differdange, les Parisiens tenteront de s’imposer le plus largement possible pour prendre une première option sur la qualification. « Il faudra essayer de gagner sans encaisser de but pour pouvoir aborder le match retour sereinement, estime Zoumana Camara. C’est une équipe à notre portée et il faudra faire le travail. » Clément Chantôme abonde dans le sens de son coéquipier : « Il y a une qualification au bout et cela serait bien de l’assurer dès jeudi. « Antoine Kombouaré ne fait jamais de cadeau ni de compromis. » À l’occasion du match Differdange-PSG, La Voix du Luxembourg a interrogé Jean-Philippe Séchet, ancien joueur du Sporting Mertzig (Luxembourg) en 2000/2001, sur Antoine Kombouaré, son coéquipier au PSG en 1994/1995 : « Je l’ai côtoyé en 1994 à Paris. À l’époque le PSG était composé de l’ossature de l’équipe de France et de Brésiliens talentueux : Ricardo, Raí, Valdo, Weah, Bravo, Ginola, Roche ou Lama étaient à la disposition de Luis Fernandez. Antoine Kombouaré a toujours été un joueur combatif, au tempérament bien établi. C’est ce qui lui a permis de gagner sa place de titulaire au sein d’un groupe de qualité. Personne n’a oublié sa tête rageuse face au Real Madrid. […] Il est entraîneur comme il était joueur : il ne fait jamais de cadeau ni de compromis. Il ne lâche rien et n’admet pas que ses joueurs puissent baisser les bras. C’est lui qui a remis le PSG sur de bons rails, tout comme il avait su relever Strasbourg ou Valenciennes. »
Frais d’organisation. À la veille du match-événement au Grand-Duché, La Voix du Luxembourg s’est intéressée aux coûts d’organisation d’une telle rencontre. Fabrizio Bei, le président differdangeois, a estimé les principales dépenses : 3,5 K€ pour la location du stade Josy-Barthel, 4 K€ pour l’impression des 8 000 billets, 5 K€ de frais de sécurité et 6 K€ pour une « tente VIP ».
