Plan your European property viewing trip in advance and save money

With prices so low at the moment, now has never been a better time to buy a property in a warmer climate, whether it be for your own use or buy to let, but you will need to view before you buy.

It is fairly easy to plan your property viewing trip if you are only visiting a few properties that are geographically close together, and your estate agent will perhaps be able to organise your trip. But will you be getting a good deal? On the other hand, you may be viewing more properties over a much wider area using several different estate agents. In this case the planning is best done by you, and unless you plan to drive to your destination with a caravan or tent you are going to need flights,hotels and a hire car.

Flight prices are the first place to make big savings as the cost differences between the airlines can be significant, so i recommend using a price comparison flight search. You may also want to use your local airport as this will save time and money. So if your local airport is a little more expensive, it may still be cheaper when you factor in the cost and time taken to travel to a more distant departure point.

Hotels, a few years ago this could be a minefield. Fortunately it is now much easier, just use a hotel price comparison site to search for accommodation on your viewing rout. You will get to know all you need about any given hotel and get the best price.

Car hire, there are many to choose from, but in this case i would use one of the bigger car hire companies as they almost always have offices at the airports, and you may have several flights if your property viewing is over a very large area. In this case they will have a car waiting for you at each arrival point. You may want to make sure that your car has climate control, and sat nav can save you hours of searching for your properties and a lot of fuel! My personal favourite is a cabriolet. When looking at your chosen properties always have a good look around the area and talk to some ex-pats if possible, this is a great way of finding what is good (and bad) about the area.

And finally allow yourself plenty of time, it is hard to make important decisions when you are in a hurry, and you are more likely to have an accident, so factor in some chill time. Do NOT make any decisions under pressure.
