"Galaxy Dress"

The Galaxy Dress fue la pieza central de la exposición "Avance rápido: Inventar el futuro" en el Museo de Ciencia e Industria de Chicago. El museo celebró sus 75 años en el 2006 y para conmemorarlo incluyó el Galaxy Dress en su colección permanente. GalaxyDress proporciona un efecto espectacular e hipnótico que se borda con 24000 píxeles a todo color, es la pantalla portátil más grande del mundo.

GalaxyDress utiliza los píxeles más pequeños a todo color que son planos como el papel y miden solo 2 por 2 mm. Los circuitos son extrafinos, flexibles y están bordados a mano en una capa de seda de forma que se estira, por lo que la tela luminosa se puede mover como la tela normal con ligereza y fluidez. Para difundir la luz, hay 4 capas de gasa de seda que también se mueven maravillosamente bien.

La electrónica extra fina permite que el diseño siga la forma del cuerpo de cerca como con la tela normal. GalaxyDress está diseñado para funcionar con varias baterías de iPOD para que el usuario puede caminar. GalaxyDress no se sobrecalienta y consume muy poca electricidad gracias a la tecnología utilizada.

GalaxyDress es liviano, la parte más pesada no es la tecnología, sino la crinolina de organza de seda plisada de 40 capas que ensancha la falda. Las áreas sin luces están decoradas con más de 4000 cristales Swarovski aplicados a mano que hacen un degradado de cristal claro a brillante rosa, por lo que el vestido se ve bien también cuando está apagado.

Clara Daguin, alta moda, futurismo y poesía

Con una licenciatura en diseño gráfico por la Universidad de San Francisco y una en diseño de moda de Arts Décoratifs de París la diseñadora francoamericana Clara Daguin mezcla la alta tecnología y la moda de una manera muy personal para componer una obra futurista pero poética. Su singular producción le ha abierto las puertas a marcas como Chalayan, Stella MacCartney y Maison Margiela, con quienes colabora regularmente.

Su chaqueta bordada con circuitos e hilos luminiscentes la convirtieron en una de las estrellas en el Festival Hyères 2016.

Zapatos Led de fiesta por Angela Sheehan

Angela ses directora de productos educativos y la especialista en educación en textiles electrónicos de Sparkfun Electronics, donde lidera el desarrollo de la línea de productos educativos. Es artista y educadora apasionada por la electrónica artesanal, el vestuario y la combinación de artes y tecnología. Ha trabajado con e-textiles y wereables desde 2005 y ha ayudado a facilitar más de 90 talleres de e-textiles y e-craft, incluyendo sesiones en Fashion Institute of Technology, Sparkfun National Tour, WEAR (smart fabrics), USACEF, NESTA, E21 Conference e ISTE.

Uno de sus últimos proyectos son los zapatos con led para fiesta. Según comenta en su página web, creó estos divertidos zapatos controlados por bluetooth para la fiesta anual de Sparkfun. Para el evento usó un prototipo de tacones que puede controlar de forma inalámbrica a través de un brazalete por bluetooth. Este es un proyecto con una estructura similar que ya había usado en un disfraz de Halloween (que todavía está en desarrollo) y que explora conectar piezas de vestuario de forma inalámbrica utilizando radios RFM69. La pulsera conecta un conector BLE Adafruit y utiliza el selector de color para enviar valores RGB a la pulsera. El brazalete pasa los datos a través del módulo de radio RFM69 a los zapatos para sincronizarlos.

Por el momento, la aplicación no es compatible con múltiples conexiones emparejadas y sólo muestra el color elegido en el brazalete y los zapatos, pero según cuenta Angela, está pleanadno agregar un sistema de menú de animaciones elegido a través de un interruptor de navegación en el brazalete para elegir un modo y pasar configuraciones de color para mostrar en los zapatos.

Nacida en 1981 en Argentina, en un pequeño pueblo cerca de Buenos Aires. Su pasión por el arte comenzó a temprana edad, pero no fue sino hasta finales de sus veinte años, después de graduarse en economía, que decidió dedicar su vida a la fotografía.

Estudio fotografía de moda, dirección de arte y paisajes en diferentes lugares, incluido el Instituto del prestigioso Teatro Colón. Y su influencia proviene principalmente de pinturas clásicas.

Romina comenzó en la fotografía de moda, pero se fue trasladando gradualmente a Bellas Artes, aventurándose más allá de la fotografía, en las técnicas mixtas. Sus obras están representadas por galerías en el Reino Unido, Suiza y Bélgica, y se han exhibido en las principales ciudades como Nueva York, Milán, Londres, Zurchi, PArís, Bruselas y Buenos Aires, entre muchos otros.

Dueña de un estilo pictórico propio, es muy conocida por sus anacronismos y el uso del absurdo y la ironía para abordar cuestiones modernas. El intento de dar un aire fresco al estilo clásico es otra característica importante en su trabajo.

The Moon Berlin garments feature tiny LED, or light-emitting diode, bulbs. They are attached to an electrical circuit imprinted on a soft, rubbery material that can be added directly to fabric or placed between a garment’s main material and its lining. While the arrangement may sound cumbersome, the circuits are so flexible they can even be attached to silk, chiffon and satin, the engineers say.

One thin circuit wire leads to a credit card-size battery that is three millimeters, or one-tenth of an inch, thick, rechargeable and low-energy. It is concealed in a fabric pocket somewhere on the garment and can power the lights for 8 to 10 hours.
Some lights even will sparkle, responding to a sensor that detects the wearer’s movement, and others dim or brighten according to levels of light. Oh, and the garments are washable.
The initial 23-piece collection, which can be ordered from Moon Berlin online, ranges from a little black dress with lights twinkling through a cowl draped at the back to a sleeveless white silk shirt featuring the lighting circuit as though it were a graphic print. Prices are €2,000, or $2,750, for a gown; €1,000 for a silk shirt.

Wearable Technologies: Cross-disciplinary Ventures

During the month of May 2011, -empyre soft-skinned space will be featuring a discussion of wearable technologies, means through which technology augments or enables the body in interacting with the surrounding environment. The integration of wearables that augment the body with technological capabilities permeate our diverse worlds from entertainment to the military. During a recent episode of American Idol, singer Katy Perry wore a white body suit that flickered with pink LED lights to the beat of a song with Kanye West. Just a few days ago, during a US military secret mission to hunt down Osama Bin Laden, elite Navy Blue Seals wore special goggles that allowed them to see in low light conditions and helmets installed with video cams that beamed the capture and killing of Bin Laden in real time for the President of the United States and other onlookers in the White House Situation Room.

In the realms of art and technology, wearable technologies have proliferated while linking the areas of art, design, science and engineering. In the art and technology DIY world, the arduino and lilypad platforms and open source software have made these technologies more accessible. Embedded accelerometers within ubiquitous communication and computer hardware such as the i-phone, i-pod touch, and the i-pad among others have simplified the relationship between code and interactivity.

Some of the questions to be considered over the course of the next four weeks will include: How do wearable technologies enhance the body’s capabilities to interface with the environment as transmitters, receivers, enablers of data-in-the-world. How do the technologies of material protect the body upon harmful impact (fire, heat, microbes) or enhance more pleasurable sensation? What is the role of risk in relation to the failure of design or delivery? What are the relationships between the practical aspects of use and the aesthetic concerns of design? How do we understand wearable technology in relation to the excesses of commodified culture?

Lynne Bruning is an award winning wearable artist, eTextile innovator and, as she likes to title herself, ‘a textile enchantress, lover of black sand beaches, tangerine bikinis and fast connections.’ She holds an Bachelor of Arts in neurophysiology and Masters in architecture. Her artworks have been published in numerous fashion magazines, web zines and all over the blogosphere. She lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Lynne is pretty active member and proponent of DIY scene in eTextiles and wearable tech fields.

Lly Sally Fort is a craft & design curator, cultural participation and learning consultant, and textiles designer-maker. In 2005 Sally received funding to research the DIY / counter-culture craft scene in the US and UK. This led to the 2009 project UK DIY, including the UK’s first exhibition of counter-culture crafts, accompanied by events and projects across the North West. With a special interest in relationships between craft and web 2.0, Sally is currently developing a crowd-sourced exhibition marrying code and textiles.
When she’s not doing that, Sally is usually helping galleries, museums, universities and schools work more effectively with their communities through participatory arts and cultural activity.

Hi, I’m Angela and I’m a maker.

Interested in digital arts, wearable and physical computing, crafts and how all these things can combine. Angela decided to start compiling her favorite links/research and document some experiments and prototypes to share every weekend here at Soft Circuit Saturdays.
She first discovered e-textiles, craft technology, and wearable computing during her time at Bennington College, while exploring physical computing. In her senior year she spent 2 months doing an independent Field Work Term researching, collecting samples, and trying out soft circuit techniques. This research led to a project called REACTIVEfashion, a collaboration with Rebecca Grabman that demonstrated her experiments in the form of a playful (and electrified) costume showcase.
Right now she continuing her explorations in the field and constantly trying new things. Angela presents a lot of prototypes in person at a monthly gathering called NH Media Makers and she working on organizing a DIY/Maker crafting group. If you live in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or Southern Maine and work with these forms or are interested in collaborating she would love to hear from you.
