Logodesign for Rotterdam opinion/news blog Vers Beton (‘fresh concrete’). The shape is derived from the shape of a concrete mixer truck. Its industrial form and soft rounded stencil typeface also reminds of old emaille plates and the harbor. The logo was made in different sizes for a scalable website.

Flyerdesign for the Onderzoek- en Ontwikkelingsregeling voor Rotterdamse kunstenaars. The briefing asked for a design that would communicate the basic information as well as showcase 3 artists and their projects, which were (in part) financed by the O&O regeling.

The possibility for the artists to give their ‘sheet’ away as a handout was examined, and resulted in a leporello. The folds are perforated so you can easily tear pages off.

The coverdesign was inspired by scientifical etchings, an area in which art and research met.

Identity design for eMvee, a business concentrating on organising events and advising institutes in the field of art and culture. The logodesign is clear and happy: the capital M—solid as a rock—, the ‘e’s slightly tilted to make the logo more inviting. A perfect type partner was found for the texts: no-nonsense, competent, clear, but also open and with character. It has nice details like an elegant italic and finds its practical use in the table figures and small caps.

Magazine (or fanzine) consisting of all sorts of information about space. Most of the content was found on the internet but I also dug through a couple of books from the ’60s and ’70s. I made it for an exhibition as personal work. My interest in space is widespread and so are the zines’ topics.

This logodesign for Stichting Netwerk Jeugdtheaterscholen was made for a competition between 10 youth theatre schools. I opted for a vintage feel slightly reminiscent of sports (a regatta is a rowing contest). Because it is used in a festival setting—which has its own design—it should stand out on the festival ground and be readable from a great distance.

Design of an annual review 2010/2011. The emphasis was on the most important task of the netwerk: to connect. I tried to visualize this by letting the images fall off the edge of the page and continuing them on the next. I also drew a lot of dashed lines.

Kunst&Wort is a company that does PR and editorial activities for cultural and art related projects, and can also show you around in the Berlin art scene. I wanted to put the emphasis on the personal approach and the textwriting. I used handwritten text to create a ‘logo’ and the back of the With Compliments card is filled with words that describe Kunst & Worts character and work.

Vers Beton, a new blog about Rotterdam, needed an illustration for one of their articles: “Rotterdamse kunstinstellingen: Het is gewoon een groot drama”. I chose the lace scarf because it’s delicate and fragile, it represents the cultural landscape in Holland. It needs care to maintain it, but the budgetcuts will cause gaps, some institutions will disappear, leaving the network damaged.
