Video is a more passive and engaging form of content. Statistically speaking, videos are more likely to rank higher in search engine results. Additional research shows that users convert somewhere between 4-7x higher on landing pages with video than those with just static content. Online video is also advantageous for content marketing because you can actually be ranked in several spots for the same keyword just in different varieties. For example, you can be ranked 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the same term with one being a video, one being a blog article, one being a picture and one being a PPT presentation

What skills do you need to create quality video content? Can anyone do it?
Anyone can create quality video content but as with almost everything, it usually takes more time than you think it will. For those just starting out, I would recommend transforming existing popular content into video format. It could be as simple as discussing a popular blog article or transforming someone else's popular content into video format. The biggest thing is to make sure you know why you are creating the content, otherwise you can end up wasting a lot of time.

What features make for an effective content marketing video?
It depends on what your goal is. Most online videos should have one primary goal. Some videos are made to sell, some are made to engage, some are made to build awareness but all videos should have a defined goal, in essence, what the viewer should get out of the video and a next step they should take. For example, we make promotional videos with the primary goal being to communicate what's happening at an event.

Can you give some tips for improving SEO of video content?
Figure out the long tail keyword you want to target. You can try using YouTube's keyword tool but I'd suggest using the AdWords Keyword Planner to determine which keyword you want to target. After you've decided on your keyword, you should try to make sure you mention your keyword as many times as possible within reason in the video on the audio track. Before uploading your video, be sure to change the name of the file to the keyword you are targeting. If hosting on YouTube, be sure the keyword is the first part of the title followed by a dash and the rest of the title. In the description, be sure to include your keyword several times. The first tag should also be your keyword. The biggest piece of advice for video SEO is to get people to watch your video. Share it with your various social networks, embed it on your website, and encourage others to like, share and comment.

What are some of the pitfalls to avoid?
Spending too much time on a video. Perfection is the enemy of execution. For a one minute video, I've actually spent days recording and editing videos before. Give yourself a time limit and stick to it. Secondly, make sure you set aside enough time to actual create a quality production. Third, check your lighting! Dimly lit videos are no fun to watch. Fourth, if it's for marketing purposes, make sure you have at least an outline of what you want your video to be. The more detailed you are, the easier it will be to execute on your vision.

How can people learn more about using video for content marketing?
There are TONS of resources out there for people to learn about using video in content marketing. Just search for video marketing and read some of the fantastic blog posts and how-to guides that are out there. Honestly though, its probably easiest just to start doing it. If you've never done so, I'd encourage you to just go to YouTube and look at the resources available there.

Here Is A Method That Is Helping Meeting Planners Increase Conference Registrations

How To Incorporate Attendee Testimonials Into Your Event Based Marketing

10 More Blogs & Resources for Event Planners

How to Create Perfect Posts on Social Websites [PRESENTATION]

Interview with Michelle Bruno, Event Industry Specialist

http://www.eventcommercials.com/blog/interview-with-michelle-bruno-event-industry-specialist

http://www.eventcommercials.com/blog/interview-with-michelle-bruno-event-industry-specialist#comments

conference planning

event marketing

event planning

We had the opportunity to interview seasoned meetings professional, writer, and blogger, Michelle Bruno. Along with her own event services company, Bruno Group Signature Events, Michelle runs an accompanying blog, Fork in the Road, where "social + technology + innovation and face-to-face meetings" converge. Mobile apps not only provide a way of removing large costs like printed guides, but also can help enhance the event through value added capabilities like integrating social media thereby reducing networking friction among attendees.

Enter Attendify

One event mobile app developer that is making great strides in this space is Attendify. For those not familiar with Attendify, they are one of a handful of budget friendly mobile app creators specifically tailored towards conferences, festivals, trade shows and meetings. The company recently launched an update to its Social App and it's filled with tons of things that help enhance the attendee experience and make an event organizer's job easier.

Attendee & Organizer Utility

The new app has some pretty useful features and benefits for both attendees and organizers.

Highlights For Attendees

Timeline: the new interactive timeline allows users to see everything that's going on with attendees and find the best topics to start up a conversation. The timeline is very Facebook-esqe meaning it's very social. My personal favorite? The ability to "Like" and comment on posts, including photos taken by other attendees

Messages: the messages feature allows attendees to interact with one another with direct private messages. Not to fear though, the Attendify team included privacy controls so your most sought after attendees are not bombarded with unwanted messages

Follow-up Lists: One of my personal favorite new features is the ability to create follow-up lists. This allows for an easy way to keep in touch with the most important people you meet at an event.

Highlights For Organizers

Control: The new social app allows for greater control over the flow of information. This makes it easy to remove inappropriate or offensive messages posted in the public timeline

Push Notifications: this is the perfect way to deliver last minute updates or corralling attendees to big events like keynote presenters or social engagements

Centralized Management: the dashboard allows for easy management of not only the social features (e.g. censoring abusive attendees) but also the content (e.g. schedule of events). This is a must have for any event organizer who hopes to deliver an exceptional experience

The Bottom Line

The Social App was tested at over 100 events before its public rollout in order to make sure it would serve the needs of attendees and organizers alike. With custom event app development usually starting in the thousands of dollars, Attendify's $599 Social App is a welcome, budget-friendly addition to the event mobile app space. For anyone interested in seeing the app in action, watch the video below. Some of the easiest and most popular ways include

Event Surveys: ask for written feedback during the event

Record Reviews: record attendees during the event to capture their feedback

Post Event Email: Contact attendees after the event for feedback

Social Media Monitoring: capture Tweets, Facebook Messages and other social media posts that show your event in a positive light

Guidelines For Collecting & Using Testimonials
There are a few things to keep in mind when collecting and testimonials which we've outlined in the below presentation.

How To Use Testimonials To Get Attendees To Register For Your Event from Marvin McTaw

Effectively Using The Testimonials
Once you've obtained authentic testimonials it's now time to use them in for your event and its promotion. You should use testimonials and recommendations everywhere including your website, social media and other marketing materials. This helps to create rapport with your target audience.

Attendee Recommendations In Motion
If you were fortunate enough to capture your attendees feedback in video form, then you should consider using those testimonials across social media including embedding them in your website. Another great way to use attendee testimonials is by creating a presentation or video that uses these testimonials. For example, they have included the testimonial on their website, Facebook Fan page, shared Twitter testimonials and included an excerpt in a promotional online video. It is very likely that these testimonials are also included in their email marketing efforts and any physical literature they send out as well, like post cards promoting the event.

Use Testimonials In Promotional Videos

Get A Video Like This For My Event

Online video is shown to be 400 to 700% more effective at increasing response and engagement rates from website visitors. The historical information helps potential attendees understand the benefits your attendees will provide them. Attendee testimonials are an effective way to provide this historical information about your event. Testimonials can also be used to help encourage specific actions you want potential attendees to take like registering for your event.

Let Us Know In The Comments Below
How do you use attendee testimonials to promote your event?

Get More Conference Marketing Ideas & Tips

Enter your email address:

Event Marketing Through Customer Service, Part 1: Marketing Online Through Customer Service

Event Marketing Through Customer Service, Part 2: The Best Service Experience For Your Attendees

Event Marketing Through Customer Service, Part 3: Appear Available...Even When You're Really Not

See full list of 10 Key Findings On Customer Service

How To Get More Attendees By Using Your Event's Relationship Building Opportunities [PRESENTATION]

How to Find Resources for Event Technology and Implement Digital Innovation into Your Strategy

http://www.eventcommercials.com/blog/a-resource-for-event-technology-the-meeting-pool

http://www.eventcommercials.com/blog/a-resource-for-event-technology-the-meeting-pool#comments

advertising

event marketing

facebook

Google+

linkedin

promotions

social media

twitter

vine

youtube

Are you an event planner struggling to keep up with today’s technology-driven attendees? Wondering how to implement digital technology into your strategy? If so, you would be just like the majority of planners who harbor this same fear. The best way to prevent low turnout is to market your event, but what's the best way to promote your event?

Online Video Works
In October 2011, I came across a simple promotional video that one of my customers created for their event. It was a simple, beautifully executed recap video of an electronic music festival that they had produced. The video was so good that even though I don't even like electronic music, I wanted to attend this festival after watching it. This got me thinking, "why aren't more conference and festival marketers using video to help promote their events?"

Why Is No One Else Doing This?
All of this was even more perplexing because I knew, based on some earlier marketing research, that online videos are incredibly effective at increasing engagement and response rates. After talking with several dozen event organizers, the reason became very clear as to why video is not more widely used. The general perception is that video is expensive and time consuming.

Professional Video Production = Expensive
After some additional research and conversations, I quickly came to concur with what many of the conference and meeting planners had been telling me. The cost of hiring a professional video producer to create a 30 second to one minute video could reach in the thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars.

Software = Time Consuming
The software solutions available were generally less expensive - usually costing less than $1,000. However, it would take an extensive amount of time to master the software in order to produce professional quality videos that were worthy of being included in the promotional materials, and did not degrade the image of the organization or the event.

There Has To Be A Better Way
Both of these options seemed ludicrous to me. Simply put, most planners don't have tens of thousands of extra dollars laying around, or dozens of free man hours to incorporate video, regardless of how effective it may be for them or their organization. This led me to the realization that there has to be a better way to help event organizers and marketers incorporate online video into the promotion of their event.

A Solution: High-Quality, Free Promotional Videos
That's when I began toying around with the idea of creating promotional videos for events. My first version of this video was a total and abject failure. The feedback I received was that it wasn't professional enough. That's when I decided to enlist the help of one of my good friends who happened to be a professional video producer and editor. His first version of the promotional video was a gazillion times better than any effort I could produce, even on my best day.

Drop Dead Simple & Easy To Use
It wasn't enough for us to be able to produce professional commercials for event organizers. We had to do something about the time element as well. Event organizers simply do not have a ton of time to learn a ton of new things or navigate new systems. I wanted to make this as easy as possible for them to incorporate video into their existing event marketing. This meant leveraging the hard work already put in to building their existing event website, as well as making sure that their video was syndicated to YouTube, making it easy to share everywhere on the web.

Tailored To Your Event
Due to this, our service goes to your website and makes the right decisions for you based on your event. For example, if your event is a personality-driven event, we produce a commercial highlighting your keynote speakers in order to emphasize the keynote's brand and image. If your event is more topic driven, we create a commercial highlighting the biggest subjects that will be discussed at your event.

Engage Your Audience & Increase Registration
The videos that we create are not only useful at summarizing your event's unique value proposition, but are also incredibly effective at increasing the number of attendees at your event. In fact, one of our customers determined that their event had 50% more attendees than originally expected due to their use of video marketing, including their free commercial from Event Commercials.

I Need Your Help
Every organization and every event should be able to present itself in a professional manner, regardless of your budgetary constraints. Online video is an almost perfect way to do this. In order to be able to provide these solutions, we need you. If you have an upcoming event, you should sign up for a free YouTube video, or consider an upgraded package for further customization of your video. Each of these items was designed to generate more awareness of the event and convey the benefits of attending.

Event Promotion via Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn

Social media is an excellent promotional tool for your event.
