This little cutiepie  just turned ONE on November 1 2011,  that’s six 1′s if you are counting!   (If you follow Ryan’s work then you may recognize her mom as a Bride that Ryan had the privilege of photographing a while back.  There is this gorgeous shot of her standing on the capital steps.)  Our  goal was to take Fall photos with bright colors and pretty trees (we are so lucky to live in the Northeast!) Wouldn’t you know that these fall photos were scheduled for the day of our big snowstorm!  So.. we headed inside and got some cute shots anyways.  While these aren’t exactly “fall” photos, they’re still totally cute!  I love the photo of her kissy face,  it makes me giggle with delight every time I look at it.

Thanks for your help Tara,  and a big thanks to Callie for the tour and for sharing her animals with us,  I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see the babies!

Here are a few of my favorites of the morning…

After all the flooding last month, we had to wait for the ground to dry up to schedule these outdoor photos. We set a date and a time,  4 pm.   Wouldn’t you know,  it started raining at exactly 4 o’clock!  It didn’t last long, and except for a few grass stains it didn’t harm the photos at all.  Also, none of us melted away.  This family was wonderful to work with and you can tell they truly treasure their sons.  I hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

A few to share:

One reason babies are fun to photograph is because they can’t really get away from the camera and can be placed in many different adorable situations and set-ups. Toddlers, on the other hand, are fun to photograph because they are learning so many new things and just love to use their feet.  We had an early morning session and the grass was still a bit wet from the morning dew, but that didn’t stop this little girl from running, climbing, jumping and zigzagging around the yard.   She was a very independent young lady but would still run to mom and dad often.  As with most 2 year olds, the comfort of mom and dad are very important, but trying new things is also very important.       Here are a few moments of each…       (Isn’t she precious?)

It almost looks like they ducked away for a private moment, except that I told them to go in there because I liked the shot.

That, my friends, is one happy trash can.

Once it got dark Katie and Hill let me play around with some off-camera flash. Oh, and we stumbled upon a multi-cultural fest. Thanks Joy for being my light stand.

This is the point in the shoot when they got bored and were more entertained by the goings-ons of a city in which they don’t even live.

If you’re wandering the streets of Harrisburg doing an engagement session on a Friday night, you pretty much have to go into at least one bar. We chose Molly Brannigan’s.

They look so casual despite the giant beast behind them. Maybe they didn’t see it.

While the girls are busy about their hubub the guys are making and calling bluffs. Do these groomsmen look familiar? I shot Rob’s wedding a few months back. They didn’t even know they had both booked me.

After the DJ missed his cue, Amy and her father hummed the song to themselves as she walked in. It was perfect.

The second we got finished getting outside shots nature showed approval by bringing in rain and thunder.

I wonder what the kids are looking at.

It’s wonderful to be surrounded by those you love on such a wonderful day.

Meanwhile, the dads are up to no good.

This little man was my youngest subject yet!  He is just 6 months old!  I love his big darling eyes- He certainly wasn’t afraid of the camera,  at times he stared just to see what the clicking noise was all about.  He has been practicing sitting up recently and did a great job at the shoot!! I think he sat up for at least 30 seconds on his own before toppling over.  But these things take time. You and I had to learn too. Can you imagine if we didn’t have the ability to sit up? Chairs would have to be a lot more secure to keep us from falling off all the time. Thank goodness for our past ability to learn the things we now take for granted.

He’s got a good start on sitting up and he was really trying to get crawling- no rush buddy!  just keep kicking those legs and enjoy being carried by mom and dad.
