As in America the Small Business Administration helps entrepreneurs to startup their business, in Puerto Rico there are two mayor government agencies aimed to the same objective. These are the Government Development Bank and Puerto Rican Economic Development Bank. These institutions were created to help Puerto Rican start and develop their small business by providing financial aid.

The Government Development Bank (GDB) offers the economic sector economic stability functioning as a financial advisor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The agency offers to Puerto Rican business people several financial alternatives like: deposit and checking accounts, deposit certificates, loans, deposit certificates and zero-balance accounts. The entertainment industry is not very different from other industries, but its product is unique. The creative process that is behind the manufacturing raises questions about the ownership and control of the artistic aspect. As we all know, the entertainment industry covers different facets like film, music, TV, radio, live theaters, special events, among others. The execution of these variants involves the collaboration of various businesses working together to achieve a final goal. These businesses are mainly suppliers of products or services, and to work together drafting of a legal document is required that stipulates the contribution of each of the parties involved. This is when an entertainment lawyer is needed.

In Puerto Rico there is not a huge number of lawyer specialized in this field. One of these specialists is Atty. Hector Quiñones. So, to know a little bit more about his career, the following was asked:

Gloriana: For how much time have you been working with entertainment law?

Hector: I have been litigating for more than 10 years now.

Gloriana: Why did you decide to specialize in such field and where did you study it?

Hector: I have always been passionate for the entertainment industry. As I finished my Criminal Justice bachelor’s degree in the University of the Sacred Heart in San Juan, I started researching where should I continue my postgraduate studies. That is when a friend of mine recommended me a law school located in New Hampshire. So, I took the LSAT and the entire tests necessary to apply to the Franklin Pierce Law Center. Fortunately I was accepted, graduating in 2001.

Gloriana: In which fields of the entertainment law have you specialized?

Hector: I have had the opportunity to deal with almost all aspects involving the entertainment law, but I have been more focused in copyright, breach on contract, advertising law.

Gloriana: Can you give us any expert advice, especially for the event industry (filed which I am aimed)?

Hector: Of course! Well, of all entertainment aspects, the event field is one of the most complete, but also complex. There are a lot of different types of events, which need the recruitment of different suppliers. Al these suppliers have to work under legal contracts to avoid further liabilities. I always recommend honesty among negotiations and to have contracts as detailed as possible. Everything can be talked through and negotiable, but is important that everything discussed goes to a paper too.

All entertainment professionals should always have an entertainment law advisor: an attorney or counselor who helps in the contracts drafting and negotiation. Following this advice a lot of legal liabilities can be avoided.

Artits and Their Legal Issues

The Spanish Ballet and Flamenco dancer Joaquín Cortés is considering suing the production team in charge of his show planned to be held in the Mexican Blackberry Auditory. The performance was scheduled for this past Friday, October 19. The dancer claims that in his arrival to the arena, he noticed that it was completely empty and there were no production staff members around to explain what happened.

Among dislikes, in a press conference Cortés highlighted that in his 30 years of dancing trajectory he had never lived such experienced. Feeling embarrassed with the public he guaranteed that his lawyers were already working the situation and assured his fans that the next presentations will be done as planned.

Is really sad seeing how the entertainment industry is still affected by people who do not understand the power of the human word. About legal issues, breach of contract is basically the principal cause of legal problems between parties. This is why it is extremely recommended to build strong clauses in the contracts to resolve this issues as friendly as possible.

American rapper Chris Brown is in risk of facing another legal problem. After being sued for the brutal beating he executed against his girlfriend and pop artist Rihanna, he was sentenced to community service and to keep good behaviors. At this day, he has not accomplished with none of his obligations and even though they broke up when the lawsuit happened, rumor has it that they are getting back together.

I do not think Rihanna should get back together with Brown. His conduct demonstrated that he does not fully respect the female gender and less respects the law. He should be concerned about accomplishing his obligations and be a good example for his fans.

Another artist facing legal issues is American actress Lindsay Lohan. After several former problems with the law, now she has been accused and arrested of doing a “hit and run” in New York. Apparently she ran over a pedestrian and escaped. Accused for running away from the scene, paying a fine was the only thing necessary to free her. Still, the legal situation will not finish there because she is still in probation for a previously lawsuit for jewelry robbery.

These situations are example of how artists should protect their image in order to keep credibility. These actions only demonstrate that they do not care for the public safety, the law and the United States politics. Both Brown and Lohan should work with a PR that can provide them a crisis management plan and a lawyer to resolver their legal issues.

Creative Commons: the Next Best Thing for Distribution Solutions

Each day more and more people become artists and authors, where thanks to their talents new intellectual content is being created. To facilitate the distribution of these contents –without having big companies interfering the distribution process- many organizations and webpages have excelled providing strategic alternatives to distribute and publish such works.

Besides the existence of self-publishing Print-On-Demand (POD) websites, there are other organizations like Creative Commons (CC). This last one is an American non-profit organization dedicated to provide legal models and applications to facilitate the distribution and use of content within the public domain. Creative Commons present their legal models as licenses, inspired by the General Public License granted by the Free Software Foundation (FSF).

This organization (FSF) has dedicated to eliminating restrictions on copying, redistribution, understanding, and modifying of computer programs. Therefore, the licenses granted by CC are aimed to allow authors to decide the way in which their creative content will circulate on the Internet, providing freedom to quote, reproduce, create works and offer them publically. Although these licenses were written in English originally, they have been adapted to other languages and various laws in other countries. The languages in which the licenses have been translated are: Galician, Catalan, Spanish, Basque and Portuguese. Some of the countries that have adapted the CC benefits and have granted operating licenses (also adapted to their legislation) are: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Spain, Peru, Guatemala, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Puerto Rico.

Currently all intellectual creations by default fall under the protection of the copyright laws, with the long string of restrictions that it implies. Anyone who wants to use a specific work must enter a complicated process of finding the copyright owner and obtaining his or her permission, which often involves the payment of royalties. Because of this, many projects never become materialized.

Therefore, CC provides a system that automates the content search. To license the work, the creator strictly establishes general conditions that later are incorporated into the work digitally, so that a search engine can identify them. Apart from establishing a database containing all licensed works, the organization intends to establish a creative file available for public sharing.

Entertainment law is an important aspect of the entertainment business industry. It is applicable to the film, music, and events businesses, and all those branches that nourish the entertainment industry. To assist in the dissemination of the legal significance of these businesses, experts have decided to study and share their knowledge. That is why we have the collaboration of Gordon P. Firemark with Tamara Bennet, who maintain a website full of podcasts for the benefit of all those who work and study law entertainment.

Firemark’s Episode 23 podcast talks about the copyright laws. Through out the discussed cases like Who Wants to be a Millionaire vs Disney, the Marvel Comic dispute, and the Wizard of Oz lawsuit, Firewark highlights terms like the lack of matter jurisdiction and the copyright's function. This is basically behaving as a set of legal rules and principles, which governs the moral and economic rights that the law grants authors (copyright).
His next podcast, Episode 29, has to do with 360 deals. For this episode a special guest participated, named Aaron Jacobson. She represents entertainment professionals like producers, musicians, companies and other performers. About the 360 degrees deals, Jacobson says that these are record agreements where record labels have the opportunity of owning and sharing all the profits and income or part of it of the artist career. Here it is included publishing and copyright termination.

Another Firemark podcast is Episode 32, having to do about royalties and cancelation proceedings. With Eminem's dispute about his digital album downloads, it is discussed the importance of clearly establishing royalties. Royalties are the payment made to an owner of a copyright, patent or trademark, so in exchange is enabled the right to exploit or use of certain resources. About cancelation proceedings, Firemark discusses a cancelation issue with Lady Gaga. He highlights the importance of having cancelation clauses in all contracts so any dispute may be resolve as easy and quick as possible. These clauses can even avoid possible lawsuits.

Even though my business plan is more focused in the event industry, still these activities are part of the entertainment industry and need to be backed up by entertainment laws. Events need the affiliation of many companies to work together to execute events and these affiliations are done contractually.

Industry Liabilities: Artists and Their Lawsuits

A lawsuit came along against the Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber. During his presentation in July 2010 in the city of Oregon, thousands of fans went to his concert to enjoy his music and live performance. The venue was full with frantic screams, almost suffocating most of the presents that felt uncomfortable with the chaotic noise. Allegedly the situation got worst when Beiber got up a platform, which directed him above the audience serving as a conduit to expand more decibels.

Taking his daughter to see her idol, mom StaceyWilson Betts was one of those stressed victims intolerant to the screams. She now claims that since that concert she has been partially deaf and suffering from tinnitus disease. She decided to demand the artist and the concert promoter for 9.2 millions.

I do not think this lawsuit will benefit Wilson. Who can control thousands of frantic fans extremely excited because they are seeing their favorite artist? In the other hand, who can blame her? I do understand she feels the artist is responsible, but truly, fans’ screams are something that nobody can control during a concert.

Another lawsuit took place between Latin actress, singer and businesswoman JenniferLopez and her former driver Hakob Manoukian. She accused him from extortion after allegedly he threatened her of divulging personal information and secrets about the artist. The extortion came along after apparently Lopez and her manager breaking the deal without justification and for not paying overtime.

Many times these discrepancies arise because of the lack of communication and honesty. Eventually, Lopez and her manager failed for not meeting their part of the contract. But it was beyond from human to be extorting with personal information. So, in general for me it was a good decision that Lopez decided to demand him.

Recently the Puerto Rican producer Roberto Morgalo sued the Panamanian singer Ruben Blades for defamation. Morgalo accuses Blades for declaring defamatory accusations and attacks against the producer. To this lawsuit Blades countersuit Morgalo, where the Federal Courts of Appeals said that the “federal judge for the District of Puerto Rico abuse its discretion in dismissing the defamation lawsuit against the singer Ruben Blades”. This means that the original demand returns to the Federal Court in Puerto Rico.

It is really sad seen such behavior between professionals in the entertainment industry. I think it was a good thing that the lawsuit returned to the Federal Court. I am more than sure that the whole case will now be investigated in more detail.

Big Time Rush in Puerto Rico

American pop band Big Time Rush will delight their Puerto Rican fans this Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot. The show is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. These guys are also the stars of a Nickelodeon music and comedy TV series launched in 2009. Their visit to the island is part of their summer tour called Big Time Summer Tour, where they are visiting more than 50 cities through out United States, Canada and the Caribbean. The tour began July 5, 2012.

The band was created in Los Angles, California (in 2009 too). It consists of four members: Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson and Carlos Pena Jr. Kendall is consider the leader with his great dance moves, while keeping the unity within the band. James is consider the “ladies’ man”, a guy full of confidence and good looking. Logan is the smart brain of the group, always known for solving the guys’ problems. Carlos is the clown and fight-picker of the group, but has a great heart. Each personality combines to create a perfect balance for the group. This combination is one of the factors that have ensured their success.

Representing music genres like Pop, R&B, Rock, and Dance they have sold more than 900,000 digital singles. These singles include songs like "Love Me Love Me", "Show Me", "Show Me", "Cover Girl", "Invisible", "Music Sounds Better With U". Some of their singles have even top Billboard charts, especially launching their first album in 2010 called BTR. Their second album called Elevate was launched in 2011.

Young producer Carlos Javier Milanes has dedicated for the past 5 years into improving the Puerto Rican entertainment industry radically. Being 22 years old, he is already the founder and CEO of 360 Group & Entertainment, a Puerto Rican entertainment company dedicated to the TV production and talent management. Carlos has also stood up as a media representative, MC, and reporter for different type of special events.

During his bachelor’s degree, he was the executive producer of two student television programs: “360, Un cambio Radical” & “Nueva Cepa”. Nowadays under the umbrella of his company, his has produced the new reality TV series “Quiero Ser Un Host” (I want to be a host), where the life of 6 recently graduates in Communications is seen as they struggle to achieve their dream of becoming hosts and MC’s. The program was launched May 14 at 10:00 p.m. in the Telemundo channel. Besides his collaboration to the Puerto Rican TV industry, Carlos and his company also manages the recently launched urban musical group G-ONE, composed by former dancers of other Puerto Rican urban music artists.

Being the company’s owner, artists’ manager, part of the cast and executive producer of his own reality TV show has not been an easy job for him. And here is where he practices negotiation tools everyday to find partners and sponsors willing to invest in each project to ensure their future and success. Negotiation is a normal and regular part to his business and projects.

So, to understand more about how negotiation is important to him and to his career as a professional producer, the following was asked:

Gloriana: When going to negotiation, how do you separate the people form past issues or problems?

Carlos: Since the moment that I seat to negotiate, the one sitting there is not Carlos Javier Milanes actually. He transforms into another man. I push a delete bottom to block all personal issues and feelings with that other party that could affect the negotiation. By these means, I can work and negotiate the most professional way possible.

Gloriana: How standard fairness and outside evidence helps you at the table of negotiation (objective criteria)?

Carlos: If there is something I’m good at is in knowing how my industry is functioning and its precedents. I always try to know everything, so if an opportunity is given where I have to change something from my offer, I will adapt to whatever the other party needs in order create more benefits to them. This is basically a marketing principal: create desires before the needs.

Gloriana: What does mutual benefits means to you in the negotiation process?

Carlos: When my turn comes along to talk and expose my case, I intent to point out everything in the less time possible. As long as the other part is asking me, I will start exalting them with surprises (basically leaving the best for the end). While answering, is when I come up comparing the situation with competitors, and exposing how the other part will be beneficiated with my offers. Knowing the completely behavior of my offers grants me the opportunity to adapt it to achieve mutual benefits.

Gloriana: What strategies have you adapted when positional bargaining comes along?

Carlos: Mostly, I appeal to the other party’s feelings. Still, I become stronger presenting the benefits they will receive by obtaining my offers. I let them see that otherwise, the party can incur in less cost-effective alternatives.

Gloriana: What has been the biggest challenge when negotiating?

Carlos: To achieve that the parties see me as a professional adult, and not judge me because of my age.

Young professionals as Carlos have demonstrated that there is no exact age when there is hunger for dreaming and success. Clearly his negotiation skills has helped him achieve many goals at such a young age. He should be considered a role model.

Event risk management plan: ACTION!

Puerto Rican Latin music star Andy Montañez and his managers had to postpone his concert (planned to be held in the Coliseum of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot) after suffering a serious transit accident in Colombia last April 30. The concert was originally dated Saturday May 26, where he would celebrate his 50 years of participation in the Latin music industry. After one of the tires of the bus where he was traveling with 4 musicians exploited, the bus left the road, hit a tree, and overturned. The accident caused the singer a trauma in his spine and severe lacerations in his body and right foot. The artist was the most injured of all the affected.

After being attended in the Santa Teresa de Fundacion Clinic, Dr. Reynaldo Ferrerira (emergency surgeon) said that despite the lesions and the operation that had to be performed to fix the foot, he is stable and out of danger. Still, medical studies have been done to monitor the artist’s spine and general health.

How unexpected incidents like these affect event management? Tropical Productions, company in charge of the concert’s planning and coordination, had the obligation to postpone the long-awaited celebration of Andy’s 50-year career in the music industry. The concert was rescheduled, and will be performed July 14 at 8:30 p.m. (in the same arena). The tickets that have already been sold for the original concert will be accepted and honored. The ticket price range also remains the same, starting in $ 25.00 to $ 65.00.

Besides responding to an event planning and coordination, event planners must implement a risk management plan to solve situations like these. There are times where the guest talent cannot participate anymore in the event for reasons beyond his or her control (like Andy’s case). To know what to do when uncontrollable incidents happen, a risk management plan will identify possible risks to develop and implement programs to protect the organization and prevent event loss.

More structured it is important to assess and evaluate to identify, analyze and prioritize potential risks; select the methods to prevent the event and the company’s loss; implement the best methods; monitor results; and modify if is needed.

FIBA Americas 2012 Male Centrobasket

An upcoming exiting event is this year’s Centrobasket male tournament to be held in the Coliseum of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot. This tournament is sponsored by FIBA Americas (Pan-American Basketball Confederation), a non-profit organization created by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) to represent the federation in the Americas. FIBA Americas has jurisdiction from Canada to Argentina.

Hosting the event is de Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. The games will be held from June 18 to June 24, presenting 10 international teams which are: Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, United States, Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico. In May 9 draws were made in the Puerto Rican Olympic House to divide the teams in two groups. Team A is composed by: Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Cuba, Panama and Nicaragua. And in Team B there is: Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands, United States, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Mexico.

The tournament is a full-house event. The price range goes form $5.66 to $32.13. The games scheduled from Monday to Friday will start at 1:00 p.m. Those assigned to Saturday and Sunday will start at 6:00 p.m. In these two days the semifinals and finals will be presented.

The Coliseum of Puerto Rico, the principal multipurpose arena of the island, will be filled with Olympic colors to present to all sport fans one of the most important international athletic events. Fortunately, the Puerto Rican national basketball team is last year’s Centrobasket gold medalist.

Important about these types of events is the message that can be transmitted. Besides being a cultural event that brings together hundreds of talented people, it also demonstrates the diversity of events that can be done. General people think mostly about concerts the first time that they hear the word “event” or “event planning”. The reality is that events like this tournament help the multicultural integration by merging many countries in a specific place. This is one of the event planning purposes: enriching its participants and attendees trough entertainment.

One of the things that have impacted the event industry is definitively technology, focusing this time to the Internet transformation in social media. In his creative presentation called Gotta share!, John Reynolds uses common people to explain how social media has occupied an important aspect in its users becoming part of their daily lives. It is a short-musical presentation but rich in explanation. Why social media is so popular in these days? Social media has broken time and space barriers thanks to its immediacy and availability. Its impact has been such that its users feel the need of being online most of the day -if not all the time- to share status, shopping histories, information, photos and videos, and keep connected with their friends and family.

How can we connect these facts with the event industry? Social media development help events to be distributed in their communication channels, causing an effective marketing process. Not only the event can be announced in traditional media like television, radio and newspapers, but now Internet and social pages serve as announcers too.

Social media has also contributed to marketing development, especially with the Internet marketing innovation. Social pages give the industry more ways of creating awareness among the public about events. In other words, it increases the distribution and advertising of events. Internet marketing in these pages is accurate for its speed and immediacy. Websites like Facebook and Twitter are already essential tools to follow and study the people’s behavior towards the event, giving the planner a perspective of predicting the event’s acceptance and assistance.

The International Special Events Society

During the years the event industry has gone through many transformations. Starting to be a simple strategy for organizing business and board meetings, it has turned out to be a professional and demanding career responsible for gigantic and international events. Backing up this fact there is also the creation and development of university level studies in the field. This helps to perpetuate its practice ant professionalism too.

Another factor that has affected positively the industry is globalization, Internationalizing and unifying it. And this is how the International Special Events Society (ISES) was founded. The ISES focus is making special events a successful career through education, creativity and professionalism. Its central offices are located in United States, Australia, Canada and United Kingdom. These locations provide the association that global unification that the industry enjoys.

The society looks to: bring the profession and its benefits to the general public; develop and promote the industry with professional high standards; relate the field with other industries; and educate special events planners. One of the programs –and basically the best– that the association offers is a membership. ISES member businesses are: the planners or producers; rental, technical, decorating and travel services; event marketing and advertising, entertainment, photography and video services; and catering services.

Throughout worldwide chapters the membership programs guarantees to its affiliates special events resources like: job and business opportunities; education, to be updated in the newest trends of the industry; leadership development; and networking links among the members.

Other important program offered by the society is the Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP). The CSEP is a program that gives recognition to those event professionals who exceed the standards of being a leader in the industry. These professionals have accomplished excellent potential and skills delivering special events. The program was founded in 1993 and it seeks: to improve events professionals’ abilities; promote the industry; keep a high level of education with correspondent certification; and to acknowledge and reward those members that outstandingly have carried out the profession elevating the industry practices.

Important to the industry is that this society and its programs give special events two things: union between different regions of the planet and a complete competitive image at the same time. Also, they were not created only to connect special event planners, but to link products and services business that are related to the industry too. Thanks to this the society reunites all those requirements that help making the special events industry a professional career to its maximum splendor.

The “Coliseo” of Puerto Rico: Entertainment Like You've Never Seen

In September 2004 the Puerto Rican entertainment industry suffered a positive transformation when the biggest arena was completed and inaugurated: The Coliseum of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot. It is located in the capital of the island; and it was named after one of the greatest Puerto Rican comedians (Jose Miguel Agrelot) in honor to his contribution to the island’s entertainment. One of his characters was the cherished "Don Cholito". Mixing this name and the term "Coliseo" –Spanish for coliseum– the arena was nicknamed 'Choliseo". Since it’s opening it has hosted concerts and a wide range of different national and international events.

The Coliseum belongs to the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority and is managed by the private company SMG. Thanks to the many people who visits it for May 2011 Pollstar Magazine, an American magazine specialized in the entertainment industry internationally, classified the Coliseum in 8th place within the best 50 Arenas worldwide and in 2nd place in the Western Hemisphere.

SMG has hired about 50 full-time employees, plus other hundreds part-time. The Coliseum is considered as one of the best places –if not the best– to hold events thanks to its areas of opportunity; it’s a flexible arena for different events. It offers the space, materials, and several resources necessary to celebrate special activities such as concerts; ice rink events; different types of conventions; graduations; cocktails; extreme, sport, and wrestling events; and fundraising events. This diversity enriches the clients’ tastes by offering diverse entertainment options.

"Coliseo" of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot

For 1998 the island’s government had the intention of bringing the 2004 Olympic Games to be celebrated in Puerto Rico. This was the original plan for the “Choliseo”: create a multiuse arena to host the event. Not being the games carried out in Puerto Rico, the construction continued lasting 6 years. The venue can accommodate from 3,500 up to 18,500 spectators; it all depends on the type of event and the desired assistance by its producer.

The “Choliseo” has hosted more than 550 events and has received the visit of millions of people. Millions are also the revenue received from ticket selling. Near subway public transportation also helps providing scope between costumers and events. Two Weekends Full of Emotions

The 30-years-old Spanish artist Natalia Jimenez moved the island on a thundering concert held on Saturday March 10, 2012. The event celebrated in the Coliseum of Puerto Rico, allowed the audience to witness her first concert as a solo artist after being separated from her former band “La Quinta Estación”. The repertoire of songs included 22 performances, where between laughter, flirting, and exotic clothing, she delighted the audience. The Puerto Rican singer Victor Manuelle was Natalia’s especial guest, who sang several numbers with her. Ticket prices ranged from to $45.00 to $ 75.00, and the event lasted almost two hours with an assistance of thousands of visitors. With a romantic and modern style, she accomplished the sexy and fun concert she promised days before the concert.

A next event in the island is the presentation of the 44-years-old Spanish rock songwriter and singer Enrique Bunbury. The concert will be this Thursday, March 29 at 8:30 p.m. The concert will be performed in the Coliseum of Puerto Rico too, where ticket prices range from to $40.00 to $ 75.00. Doors will be open to the public at 7:30 p.m. This event promoted by Jose Dueño Entertainment, a Puerto Rican event managing company.

In the other hand one of the most expected events in the island is another concert that will reunite the famous Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra, the New York singer raised in Puerto Rico Robi “Draco” Rosa, and the Panamanian singer Ruben Blades. The concert is scheduled for this Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico. Jose Dueño

Born in October 19, 1961, the producer José Dueño has more than 26 years of experience in the event industry. Starting his career in 1984, he has been responsible for the production of more than 1,000 events in the Island, including concerts, comedy and family events like magic shows, exhibitions, culinary events and Broadway shows. He promoted concerts with international artists like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, The Police, Usher, Andrea Bocelli, Metallica, AC/DC, and Celine Dion. He has also worked with Latin-Americans artists like Steel Pulse, Ricardo Arjona, Franco de Vita, Aventura, Gloria Estefan, Juan Luis Guerra, Gustavo Cerati, and Ricardo Montaner. His comedy events include the magic show with The Illusionist David Copperfield. For the family, he works events like Sesame Street, Cirque Du Soleil: Dralion and The Imperial World of China. Thanks to him, Puerto Ricans have also enjoyed Broadway shows like Cats and Stomp.

Angelo Medina

Angelo Medina was born on April 21, 1959. Besides being an event promoter and producer, he has also stood up as an international music manager for Latin artists like Ricky Martin, Mana, and Ednita Nazario. He gained and international credit of being the first Puerto Rican promoter to produce a large-scale event outside the Island named Storm, performed in the Bandalay Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Besides working with the Event Industry, he has work sports events, like Major League Baseball games in Puerto Rico. Also, he is the owner of San Juan’s professional basketball team and an entertainment company, called Angelo Medina Group.

Tony Mojena is another famous Puerto Rican event producer. Still, he has focused his work more in television production. As Angelo Medina, Mojena has also reinvented himself becoming the manager of the Latin star Luis Fonsi. He is an important key in the Telemundo Network, being responsible for the Latin Billboard Music Awards. In 2007, 2008 and 2010, he was the executive producer for this award show. Mojena also owns a company called Tony Mojena Entertainment.

Paco Lopez is famous because for the past five years he has produced the best concerts of the Puerto Rican rappers Wisin & Yandel. This young promoter, being only 31 years old, began in the Industry getting involved with concerts, filmmaking and promotions. As he rose, he also worked with Latin artists like Tego Calderon and the duo Zion & Lennox. Lopez is one of the top prospects in the event industry here in Puerto Rico, enjoying the vision of combining his talent with filmmaking, television, and wanting to bring artists to Puerto Rico that have never come before.

Even though each of these producers have their own taste and style, they all have in common one thing: their love for entertainment. The Guatemalan singer and songwriter Ricardo Arjona, drove crazy his Puerto Rican fans in two successful concerts, filled to capacity. They were presented on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 at the Coliseo of Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot, being part of his Metamorfosis World Tour. This one is aimed to promote his new discography called “Independente”.

With an attendance of over 14,000 people per function, the artist managed to captivate the public, from performing his classics, to interpreting new songs. The repertoire of songs surpassed the 25, extending the concert to two hours and a half. The tour started in January of this year, where he has performed in countries like Uruguay, United States, Argentina and lately Puerto Rico (promoted by SBS). The tour will continue to be presented in other locations like Peru, Chile and Mexico.
