Creek Week Our first volunteer effort as a family

I recently saw a flyer for Creek Week! Wondering what is Creek Week? I clicked on the link to read more about it and soon discovered this was something i would love to do with my son.

Creek week is a week-long event I was late on finding this event so we missed the week long activities for a more hands on experience but,that was OK. We didn't miss the most important one,volunteering to help clean a local creek.

So I signed us up! Me, my son & my husband.

Saturday we all woke up bright and early grabbed are water, gloves, litter picker upper and a bucket for the trash and we were on are way too the creek we had chosen to clean.

We had arrived and other volunteers were already there met the leader of the group and we were given are what not to do scenario such as homeless camps, etc.

We were off with are bucket and garbage bags. My goal here was to be a learning lesson for my 14 year old son.To teach him the importance of volunteering doing good for the community and a little about working how it's not always fun.

I would say it was pretty fun actually, we got to spend time as a family. We collected about three bags of garbage and a few big pieces of cardboard.We walked quite awhile collecting a lot of trash.

When we were done we headed back to the site supervisor gave him the rest of the trash we had collected and then we we were off to the park for the final celebration.

This was a big celebration for "Creek Week"Radio Disney" was even there.

When we arrived there where a lot of people we got in line and got are T- shirts for the work we had did at the creek clean up.

The event had many booths set up for the kids to check out which was fun because my son had a passport he had to get stamped at each booth to win a prize when he got them all stamped.

Me and the hubby even learned that we have a state Trout! "The Golden Trout"Really we should have known this but we didn't we know about are flag bear,flower,etc.

The California golden trout (Salmo agua- bonita) was designated the official state fish of California in 1947. The golden trout is native to California, originally found only in a few icy streams of the headwaters of the Kern River. Hatchery- raised fish have now extended the range of the golden trout to many waters at high elevation in the Sierra Nevada's and also other states.

Recently i have been juicing after trying everything to man kind to lose weight and juicing has worked wonders for me i have lost 23 pounds so far in two months not bad huh? But now i have reached my Plato i'am not gaining but i'm not losing either.I have been walking a mile each day so now i need to kick it up a notch and join a gym.I have belonged to smaller gyms this time i thought i would try the big box gym one that let's you try with a free 7 day pass. Great exactly what i was looking for i know what a gym is as does everybody else.Before i sign a contract i want to make sure i'am comfortable.This gym is always crowded that is why i have tended to stick with the smaller gyms.

So i signed up for this gyms free 7 day trail and printed it out for me and the husband to go check out and looked over the online offers so when we arrived i had anticipated they would discuss with me some gym membership options,no problem i listened i informed him i was use to smaller gyms and had already looked over the sign up specials online and that is where i would buy my membership should i wish to join.But i felt as though i was being pushed to sign up right than and the specials he was showing me were not the same as the ones i was offered online although he insisted that his was the best deal.So he finally printed out are free pass And we went and worked out for a half hour they had a lot of equipment that my smaller gyms don't offer my husband's treadmill was working fine the fan and such mine fan did not work not a big deal it happens as far as the gym environment the work out that was great. Watching one of the men that worked there walk around with his chest puffed out like hey everybody look at me was not what i had expected from such a well known gym.

After my work out i looked further at the paperwork he had given me for are free pass, guess what now follow along i had to redeem by 2/25/13 well today is 2/21/13 making to day my 1st workout the pass he gave me was good until 2/23/13 that's 3 days.Not 7 like i was offered to try their gym.

So now i do like the gym but i feel as though i was pressured to buy right than and the fact that they gave me 3 instead of the 7 i'am not so sure i want to join.I have friends that use this gym many actually and all have say good things about this gym.So i might be able to overlook this and join but than i just wonder when i want to cancel what will happen than?

knowing nothing is ever free, that they would offer me the membership.I was fine with that i hate when companies offer something than try to push their services on you the point of the pass is too see of you like that gym for god's sake i haven't even worked out yet, I don't know that i want a membership yet.

So i have two days left to decide on my membership. So the test will be when i visit tomorrow if they start hassling me than i will not be getting a membership, if they mention it that's fine as long as they don't push the issue, Hopefully they don't because i would really like to join as long as i'am not pressured to do so.

We have two dogs they're both a Chihuahua mix each one with their own personality and both are rescue dogs from our local shelter. They are a big part of our family they love to go on car rides and love to go to the dog park especially diamond the white Chihuahua she is very smart as soon as we open our front door she runs right for the car and hops right in completely a ecstatic that she is going for a car ride.

Diamond is also one of those dogs that have to stick their head out window.if I roll the window down a little bit she will put her paw on the button and roll it down the rest of the way.Now we reached the dog park now if you know anything about Chihuahua's they can be feisty when they want to be.

Diamond might be a Chihuahua but sometimes she think's she is a pit bull.Which brings me to lucky our other dog he is always calm and I don't really have to worry about lucky when we go to the dog park diamond on the other hand is the mischief maker at the dog park.When we first get there they both they both behave like a dog would smelling the other dogs and doing their business.

Then diamond spots all the other dogs in the big dog park. And then diamond will begin running along the fence line barking at all the big dogs now that's what dogs do they bark diamond might be a little Chihuahua but she has a huge bark you wouldn't think was was coming from a little Chihuahua.

When she barks and growls sometimes she seems aggressive although we know she's just playing all the other dogs in the park are paying attention now because she is barking so loud that they too now began to bark.And then we began getting stares from other pet owners at the park not sure if our dog is playing or being aggressive and I reassure them that she is just playing.

when you go to the dog park with your pets there is kind of an etiquette you need to follow.First one being pick up after your dog so after taking diamond to the dog park a few times she continues to run and bark aggressively but she's just playing and I think that makes the other people there kind of uncomfortable so now we just take her to the park when we know that there is not really many people there or we take her with us on our long walks. You would be amazed at the arguments people get into Over there animals at the dog park. So to avoid all that drama we will just walk somewhere else when we take diamond but will occasionally still take Lucky to the dog park. Do you take your dogs to the dog park? The dog park can be a great place to meet other people and other dogs to let your animals play and run around get out all that energy but like I said there is a dog park etiquette so here are a few simple dog park etiquette rules to follow

From the S.p.c.a-

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. Prior to taking your dog to a dog park, it’s a good idea to visit the park first, without your dog. Become familiar with the layout, park rules, park setup, cleanliness, and the behavior of the dogs and people at the park. It’s a good idea to observe on the day(s) time(s) you would want to take your dog to the park, but the first couple of times you do take your dog to the park, try to do so when there are fewer dogs so that it will be less stressful for your dog.

2. Small dogs should not be in the same area with large dogs. A safe environment for your small dog is to have a separate area designated only for small dogs. Small dogs might look like prey to a large dog. Even if the large dog is appropriate toward small dogs, he may inadvertently injure the small dog just by putting his paw on the little dog, or when he is running and jumping.

3. Ideally, every dog park should have at least two entrances into the play area(s). This will help reduce the ambush that happens when a new dog enters the park. If there are two or three entrances, this will drastically reduce potential problems.

DOGS AT THE PARK

1. There are many dogs that are not good candidates for dog park play. Many dogs don’t actually like meeting dogs they do not know. This is more likely to be true for more mature dogs (older than two years of age), those that have had limited interaction with unknown dogs, or may have genetic/breed tendencies that influences behavior toward dogs. A dog park is not an appropriate place for dogs that have serious behavior problems toward dogs or humans.Dogs that have these kinds of issues should not be taken to dog parks.

2. Please do not bring females in heat or intact males to the dog park. Unaltered males are much more likely to be aggressive, particularly if they are adolescents(between eight and 18 months of age).

3. Dog park dogs should be friendly and outgoing without being overbearing, obnoxious or bullies toward other dogs.Your dog should be fairly confident and sociable toward other dogs. Reactive, fearful or aggressive dogs are not appropriate for dog parks.

4. Your dog should be responsive to some of the basic commands, such as sit, come and leave it (or other verbal/sound interruptive) so that you can gain control of him if needed or to prevent him from harassing others while in the park.

5. Incessant barking or barking with a serious or aggressive intent should be curtailed.

6. Any dog visiting the park should be healthy. Dogs should be current on vaccines and parasite free, without any infections or other communicable illnesses or diseases.Puppies under 4 months of age should NOT be brought to a dog park as they are not fully vaccinated. Dogs visiting the dog park should also be structurally sound. If a dog has hip dysplasia, arthritis or other structural problems, this is usually painful and is a high risk factor for causing aggressive behavior when a dog is hurt or stressed by the anticipation of being hurt.

HUMANS AT THE PARK

1. Read the posted dog park rules and follow them.Even if you don’t agree with them, they are there to keep both dogs and people safe and to create a positive atmosphere within the dog park.

2. Small children are best left at home (under age nine). Dogs that are playing roughtly and running around will accidentally run into people. Large dogs can sometimes knock down a full grown man! If these dogs run into a child, the result could be serious. There are always some dogs at the dog park that have not been socialized to children.Some dogs have a strong predatory drive, which may be set off by a small child running around and making noises.

3. It is very important to keep an eye on your dog at all times. If you are doing this, you can prevent problems or situations that might otherwise occur if you are not paying attention to what your dog is doing.Be prepared to interrupt – whether your dog is the perpetrator or the victim.

4. Be especially careful when entering the park, as this is a highly charged area.Dogs will crowd around, which can feel very overwhelming to the newcomer. If your dog is already in the park, do everything you can to move your dog away from the gate to avoid overcrowding the newcomer. Be sure to gently and slowly move your dog away from the gate.Always take the leash off your dog when in the park.

5. Remove your dog’s leash prior to entering the park. When dogs are leashed entering the park it may cause stress and could lead to aggression.Also, carry your dog’s leash with you at all times in case it is quickly needed.

6. Avoid pushing dogs into each other while moving them.If a dog is put into another dog’s personal space without invitation, this could cause problems.

7.The potential for dog fights increases if the group of dogs crowds around people or into a tighter space.It is important to avoid doing anything that will cause the dogs to gather closely to one another.

8. All food should be prohibited in the dog park area. This includes food people are eating or dog treats/food of any kind. Food, along with other valuable items (such as pig ears, rawhide and toys), increase the likelihood of aggressive behavior in the group. Much of the time there isn’t a problem when a dog is going after his/her own ball or Frisbee. However,if other dogs do intervene,it is best to either stop playing this game with your dog, or to take your dog to an area designated for individual dogs.

9. If your dog is not having a good time (i.e., cowering, strongly avoiding other dogs, etc.) or is the cause of others not having a good time (i.e., bullying, obnoxious, excessive mounting or barking, etc.) it would be best to remove your dog from the dog park. Some dogs prefer a small circle of friends and don’t care for crowds of unknown dogs. Many dogs enjoy playing at the park when they are young, but less so as they mature.You can try again another day to see if things go differently.Sometimes it’s just the group of dogs that are present that can influence how your dog behaves at the park.

10. Dog parks are NOT the place to work on your dog’s behavior issues or problems.

11. If someone complains about your dog’s behavior,be willing to consider his perspective before becoming defensive or not listening to what the person is saying. Apologize if your dog has been inappropriate, and leave the park if your dog is being too rough.

12. Please do not let your dog wear choke, prong or shock collars as these can have adverse side effects when used during play with other dogs.All extra gear (harnesses, collars other than plain buckle collars) should be removed before entering the park.

13. If a human or his dog is behaving inappropriately, assume they don’t know any better and do your best to educate him/her gently and politely. The positive approach generally works better with humans as well as for dogs!If the actions of other people or dogs puts you or your dog at risk, and the other dog owner isn’t receptive to education,take your dog and leave the park.

So that you and your animal may have a great time at the park rule number one please make sure that all your animals are neutered and/or spayed please pick up after your pet with a doggy bag after it uses the bathroom.For your own sake you may want to definitely make sure your animal is treated for fleas,ticks.

For the men in my life my husband and my son.Hair cuts has to be the thing they do every month.While my husband is very picky about how his hair looks,

my son's hair on the other hand grows quite quickly,which is pretty costly for the both of them monthly.

My son pretty much keeps his hair the same style,My husband will go longer in the winter while during the hot summer month's sometimes he will shave his head.

Can i just say we all absolutely love it!!!

My husband loves the Rotating head making it pretty easy to cut at any angle and the length adjustments.He was very happy with the Precision trimmer and the precise lines he made himself he was able to find the correct length he wanted and shaved his sides i gave him a mirror to see the back and he was able to get the back on his own.

With my son i don't quite trust him to cut his own hair yet,So i gave him a little help.I used the precision trimmer on the back of his neck and side burn areas which seem seem to grow the fastest or are just more noticeable.Again used the length i felt we wanted for his hair style and cut the back and the sides.

It really was pretty easy to use.

Must see Documentary For parents with children on medication

For years i have struggled with should i put my son on medication just because it was prescribed by a doctor?Well when my son was first diagnosed with ADD.

We did the medication thing but but not without questioning it.I asked the doctors told them i had concerns about the side effects i was told What they probably tell everybody i have never had a child have those symptoms they are fine very few show symptoms.

So this diagnoses was new to us so.We thought the doctors new best but i always had this feeling i shouldn't be giving my son these medications he tried two different medications.

After being on this medication for about 6 months my son came to me and said i don't feel good he said my heart is pounding.It sure was i could see his heart pounding out of his chest.He was sweating,he almost looked like he was going to pass out but he did not thank god.I screamed for my husband and we are off to the Emergency room.I was so scared i had no idea what was going on and as scared as i was i knew i had to keep calm for my son.

As we pulled into the Emergency room parking lot all the symptoms he was having started to go away the Emergency room instantly hooked him up to the EKG machine.It checked out fine

They believe he had a episode of S.V.T -Supraventricular Tachycardia

After that his doctor agreed to stop his medication And whether he was or wasn't i was going to stop it.And we did.

The above movie is a very powerful documentary that every parent should watch it's called dead wrong.I'am not a doctor so i can't tell you what you should do.Having said that i think if you have a child on medication or are thinking about it at least watch this documentary do you're homework.

While on the medication my sons school work was greatly improved the test scores showed it.The teachers were happy.They knew why i had stopped the medication and would always ask me why can't he be on something different?.I felt pressure i want my child to succeed but in the end it is are decision.We chose not to continue the medication.he also had other symptoms after watching this documentary now i'm even more sure we made the right choice. Their are no magic pills.

Before you know it Christmas will be here I'm thinking stocking stuffers.
