It’s never been easier to run a successful business from your home with the resources available with new technology and the Internet. From small business owners to individuals and families, there is plenty of demand for cheaper and more personal accounting options. However, it takes a lot more than setting up a desk in your garage, a calculator, and your dedication to run a successful accounting business. Here are the tips to help you get started on your career goal.

Start by deciding on your area of specialization and to whom you want to advertise your services. Whether you want to focus on taxes and deductions, payroll, or any of the other options, being able to market yourself as an expert in an area will bring more business. You can look into what’s needed in your area if you’re having trouble deciding on a specialty. Talk to your local community or check online to see where accounting services are lacking and try to pick up that slack to build your clientele. When you pick a target market, like small business, Internet business, or other business owners who work from home, this can also help direct you to a good specialization.

These days it’s essential that you have a website for your company to stay viable in the market. Especially for new customers who can see the services you provide without having to call and you can include a free consultation form or way to bring business in the door. If you don’t know about web designing and building, see if you can’t enlist the help of friends or family members who have a working knowledge of how to create successful sites. If you can’t find anyone to do some pro bono work for you, and you can afford it, you might need to consider hiring a professional. It will be worth the extra cost if you have a user-friendly and engaging website. You’ll want to utilize search engine optimization to bring more traffic to your site as well. When a customer goes to find an accountant online, you’ll want them to see you before they see your competition. There is tons of website building software available if you need it.

Once you have your website up and running, it’s time to start marketing your business. You need everyone to know you’re ready for clients, even people who aren’t in your target market. With the free resources available through social media platforms, you’ll be able to reach a larger amount of people and you’ll be even easier for potential clients to find. Like the free legal consultation, you may want to offer customers an incentive for signing up to follow you on Twitter or Facebook. Offer reduced tax filing costs to your first hundred followers, giveaway gift cards, do anything to help entice them to sign up!

Before officially opening your doors for business, you’ll also just want to make sure you covered all the legal aspects of running a business from home. Check with your HOA for any guidelines and make sure you have malpractice insurance, all necessary licenses, and disclaimers if you offer anything free consulting, and client agreements all ready to go.

It takes some time to start a successful home accounting service but once you’ve done the legwork, the rest is easy!

So you’ve been watching Dog the Bounty Hunter. Now you think you’d like to work alongside the likes of everyone’s favorite feathered and cowboy-booted bounty hunter on the safer side in the bonding arena. If that seems like a career field you’d stay interested in and passionate about, then here are the steps you’ll need to take to become a professional bail-bonding agent.

Start by confirming whether or not your state allows bailing as an option for detainees; states that don’t allow private bonds include Nebraska, Massachusetts, Maine, Oregon, Illinois, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. Once you’ve verified your state’s policy, you’ll want to look into all the necessary requirements to obtain your license. These requirements may vary state to state but most will require classes, fingerprints, details about your property and applicants must be at least 18, in all states, to work in the bondsman field.

Contact your state’s insurance department. They are who usually appoints bondsman in the local area. They’re a necessity unless you have enough personal assets to cover your business in the case of financial losses. They’ll be able to direct you to any tests and/or classes you must pass to obtain your license. You’ll have to be fully educated on your state’s laws, technicalities, and statutes to succeed in this career so you’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to take the classes and pass the various exams. Some states also require that you pass a written test given by the Department of Insurance.

Once you take the classes and pass any required tests, you’ll need to get your surety insurance. You may want to hire a lawyer to help you wade through this part and they can help make sure you fully understand the contract you’ll have to sign with an insurance company. These contracts are quite complex since you’ll be handling major amounts of money and property as a bail bondsman.

It may be in your best interest to take some building up your savings for the company. A BUF, or build up fund, in a FDIC approved account stays with your insurance company for the life of your career. The BUF is the insurance company’s way to make sure you work in accordance with the contract and it covers the insurance company should the bondsman commit any illegal activity, in which case the money will be used to cover legal costs. If you are successful in the field, the money will remain in the account until you retire when, in most cases, you get the money back. It can be a kind of retirement fund for you. You can also use this time building your account to make plenty of contacts who will make your life easier like district attorneys, sheriffs, judges, and border patrol.

It’s a good idea to work in a bondsman firm when first starting out and then once you’ve gained some experience, you can open your own firm. To find a bail bondsman in your area, visit bailbondsman.org. There you can find not only any bondsman for whom you can work, you can also discover the latest news out of the industry and other important resources. If getting into this field is your goal, you should consider following the website on any of the offered social media platforms or just check in with the website to stay up to date on current events within the field.

Forex is not for the faint of heart. You have to have guts, and a willingness to stick it out when the chips are down. Forex markets allow you to trade currencies and take advantage of trends in the currency markets. These trends signal the strengthening or weakening of various world currencies. It’s a complex market, but if you understand some basic principles, you can be successful.

Choose a Good Broker

A good broker is worth his weight in gold, even though you’re trading fiat currency in the FX market. Brokers facilitate currency transactions for you, but not all brokers are the same. The best brokers will have low spreads, be tied to a large bank that’s fairly stable, will provide you with extensive tools and research, will give you a wide range of leveraging options, and at least 2 different types of accounts.

Spreads – Spreads are possibly the most important factor when it comes to controlling costs. The spread is essentially the fee a broker charges you for transactions. The spread is calculated in “pips” and is the difference between the price of the currency when you buy it and the price when you sell it. The lower the spread, the better.

Quality Institution – Forex brokers don’t work for themselves most of the time. Usually, they work for large banks. Because of this, you want to make sure your broker is backed by a reliable institution. He should be registered with the Futures Commission Merchant.

Tools and Research – Trading in forex is impossible without some kind of research and analysis. Your broker should provide you with tools to do all the research necessary for trading. Today, trading platforms should be able to offer you real-time charts, technical analysis tools, real-time news and data and support for trading systems.

Leveraging Options – Your broker should allow you to leverage. The higher, the better. Leverage is necessary in forex because the price movements in currency are usually only a fraction of a cent. A broker with a high leverage option gives you the flexibility of choosing low or high leverage. For example, a 100:1 ratio means you can trade $100 for every $1 you have in your forex account. The broker lends you the $100. A 250:1 ratio means the broker lends you $250 for every dollar you have so that you can trade on the FX market.

Account Types – A broker should offer you a few different account types. The smallest is a mini account. These accounts require that you trade a minimum amount of money per day. For example, a mini account might require that you trade at least $250 per day. A standard account allows you to trade at a variety of different leverages but often requires higher minimum account balances of perhaps $2,000 or $3,000. Premium accounts require significant amounts of capital but give you the most flexibility in terms of leverage.

Trade with Disposable Income to Start

Never use your rent or mortgage money to trade in forex. Always use disposable income or some of your savings. While many systems claim that it’s easy to make money in forex, the reality is that it takes skill and ability. Trading with money you can afford to lose allows you to “learn the ropes” without losing money you depend on for survival.

The Trend Is Your Friend

In forex, the market often moves in one direction or another, forming trends. These trends can be long-term or short-term trends. A trend indicates the general direction of the market. Your job is to find trends and trade on them for profit. If you see a trend developing, for example, that suggests that the US dollar is strengthening against the Japanese Yen, you would latch onto this trend and bet on the USD.

Define Your Strategy

You want to have a defined trading strategy. You can analyze the market in one of two ways: fundamental analysis or technical analysis. Fundamental analysis takes into account news stories, Non-farm payrolls of countries, Purchasing Managers Index, Consumer Price Indices, retail sales, and durable goods. Fundamental analysis, in the forex market, is often used to predict long-term trends, but some forex traders do trade short-term on news stories.

Technical analysis is the most popular methodology. It uses charts and tries to find patterns using software that tracks historical price movements in real-time. The technical analyst is only concerned with historical performance, not what’s happening in the news.

Set Firm Rules

Make sure you have firm guidelines as to how you will trade before you actually start trading. For example, set a profit goal and then quit once you reach your goal. Most importantly, always obey the trading rules you’ve set for yourself.

If your kitchen needs a quick and easy update, replacing your current window treatments is a great option. Relatively cheap, hassle-free, and doable in a couple hours, new window treatments can give your kitchen a nice burst of new life. Here are some ideas to help you decide how to outfit your kitchen windows.

Start by deciding what you want out of your window treatments. Color? Elegance? Sustainability? Pizzazz? Do you just want them to cover your windows and you don’t care what they look like? How much of the windows would you like covered and how much light blocked? Once you have an idea of what you want out of your kitchen window coverings, it will be easier to narrow down all your choices since shades come in nearly every shape, size, color, design, and material imaginable.

A really popular decorating trend for kitchen windows is café curtains, meaning curtains that only cover the bottom half of your window. This is a great way to add chic décor while not blocking natural light from getting in or the view out of your kitchen windows. You’ll add a trendy flair to your kitchen and the curtains are easy to find or make and don’t cost much. Installing them is as easy as buying extendable, spring-loaded rods and adjusting them to your window’s width. You could also add a nice valance on the top of the windows to accent your café curtains.

Maybe your kitchen windows look right onto your neighbor’s property or your kitchen gets too hot from too much natural sunlight. In these cases you might want to consider full blinds and those options are just about endless. From elegant wooden shutters to eco-friendly options, there are literally tons of choices. Kitchens should be bright, airy, and welcoming since they are often the heart of the home and where most guests inevitably gather. It’s a good idea to keep your options open by choosing blinds that can both block light and views and let the light in when wanted.

A lasting trend for kitchen window coverings is classic Roman blinds. They’re a full piece of fabric that folds in on itself when you raise it. Always in style, you can find Roman blinds in all colors, most materials, and they’ll block as much or little light and air as you want them to. In the winter, they’re great for keep heat trapped in the house so your heater won’t work so hard and they’re not too expensive. These days you can even get made to measure Roman blinds so you have the option to make them however you want. With custom made blinds, you’ll ensure they will match your kitchen’s color schemes and will fit perfectly in your windows even if you have unique sizes.

Giving your kitchen a whole new feel is as easy as updating your window treatments. There are options for all budgets so you won’t have to break the bank just to revive your kitchen a little.

In our current housing market, foreclosures are happening every day. While unfortunate for the home’s owners, foreclosed properties can be both a great way to buy a new home at a cheap rate or to start investing in real estate in your area. It’s not always that easy to find foreclosed properties, as experienced investors are pretty good at snatching them up quickly. If you’re looking to buy a foreclosure, here are some tips to help you locate the best properties.

Start with your bank. Banks are usually who own any foreclosed properties and their personal realtor should be able to help direct you to all properties currently available. While at the bank you may also want to consider getting prequalified for a mortgage to assert your commitment to buy. Your bank will then definitely provide you with a list of properties they’ve foreclosed on and will most likely even direct you to some of the better properties available.

Use governmental agencies including your local tax assessor or county clerk’s office. You can go into the physical office or check if either division offers free listings online. Other governmental agencies that offer listings online are the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Veteran Affairs, or the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). All of these divisions run websites where you can access available properties usually free of cost.

And, of course, you can use the more old fashioned methods of checking your local newspaper and driving around to look for homes. In most counties, the clerk or Board of Realtors are required to list any foreclosing properties in the same area of the paper when they list upcoming auctions. By driving around looking for properties, you’ll not only be able to find good options, you’ll be able to assess the neighborhood it’s in and what’s near so you’ll know whether or not the property is worth the investment. Foreclosed homes should either have a sign that says “bank-owned” or “foreclosed.”

The Internet is, as always, an invaluable resource. You can search foreclosures by your zip code. Some listings will cost money to see but you should also be able to find plenty of free listings. Through this research you may also be able to find a reputable realtor in your area who specializes in foreclosed properties. This won’t be a free option like the ones listed above, but you may be able to find a great property before other investors get it with the help of a realtor.

If you’re facing the unfortunate need to let your home go into foreclosure, consider hiring a foreclosure lawyer in your area for support (e.g. foreclosure lawyers in NY, CA, MI, etc.). They may even be able to counsel you and help you find a way that you can avoid the foreclosure. The cost if hiring a lawyer could be worth it if you’re able to avoid losing your home.

Foreclosures are an unfortunate event for people who lose their homes, but that’s no reason not to take advantage of the occurrence if you’re interested in investing or getting into a new home. With a little effort, you’ll find a plentiful market of foreclosed properties.

Decorating your bedroom is an important part of home design. It’s your space to relax, unwind, and escape life’s worries. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to decorate, either. There are plenty of ways to create your perfect bedroom without blowing through your savings. Here are some tips to help you when you’re ready to decorate but have a tight budget.

Paint colors can be very underestimated. You can set the whole tone of your room by switching wall colors by a hue or two. To really save money and if you already have a neutral color on the walls, you can even just paint an accent wall or two to bring new color and life to the space without even using an entire can of paint. Step it up a notch and look into DIY wall patterns to use paint to create a lush and elegant feel to your room. If you can expand your budget a little, you could also consider creating a texture on the walls or ceiling using shellac or putty. There are tons of online videos that will teach you how to do any of these options.

Drapes are another option that can drastically change a space without costing a fortune. If you’re savvy with a sewing machine or know someone who is, you can get your favorite fabric and then sewing them into curtains is easy for those with the know-how. You could even skip painting and add a strong accent color with your curtains instead to save extra money. Your drapes can be as attractive or neutral as you want them on any budget.

Bold colored sheets will breath new life into a room with barely any spending required. Use your sheets to accentuate either your wall colors or your drapes without going overboard on color. If you can afford a new comforter or duvet cover these will help change it up even more; a duvet might be a little cheaper but both options are affordable with any budget. Changing any or all of your bedding will create a different feeling for little money.

If you want a new bed, frame, and other furniture, you could consider storage beds instead of separate pieces. Storage beds usually have drawers under the mattress and some shelving or storage at the headboard. Especially if you’re in a tight room, they’re a great option to maximize the space and you can find storage beds that fit just about any budget.

Depending on how little you want to spend, you could pay a visit to some thrift stores in your area and buy old furniture to refinish or consider refinishing the furniture you have. With an afternoon and enough space, you could create an elegant and chic bedroom set on a very small budget. This way you’ll also be able to get exactly the look and feel you want since you’ll be designing your own furniture. Add a new lamp in there, a new area rug, or new artwork and your room will be a whole new place for you to enjoy.

Everyone is on tight budgets these days. With a little planning and extra effort on your part, you’ll easily be able to design your dream space while spending very little. Now, more than ever, is a great time to take advantage of your own artistic prowess when home designing.

With the summer season nearly here, everyone is gearing up for camping trips. A great escape from the worries of our every day lives, camping is a perfect adventure for the whole family, especially if you use an RV in which you can comfortably fit, transport, and feed the whole troupe. Below are tips to help you prepare for your family RV camping trip.

Your RV will certainly have ample room for the trip, but it may not have enough room to sleep the whole family. Some family members may prefer sleeping beneath the stars anyway. Pack a tent or two if you have them and if you’re camping in warmer climates, even just a tarp you can string between trees will suffice for shelter. Sleeping beneath the stars is a vital component of camping for some and for others they’ll prefer sleeping in the camper. You’ll also want to make sure you have plenty of blankets, pillows, and sleeping bags to keep everyone comfy and warm. Once you have your “guest list” finalized you’ll have a better idea if you need a couple of tents or extra tarps to ensure everyone will have plenty of room to stretch out and sleep well.

You’ll want to stock up on your family’s favorite food and drinks. Though your RV will have a fridge, depending on the length of your trip, you might also need to pack a couple extra coolers for more space to keep meats, cheeses, drinks, and fruit chilled. Stock the cabinets with your family’s favorite snacks and you’ll save a ton of money on road food and ensure your family is eating mostly healthy. A drive-thru trip can be a staple for some road trips, but you’ll want to avoid doing that too much, especially with a single bathroom whose well has to be emptied.

Packing the right clothes is an essential part of any successful camping trip. Look into the areas you plan to visit so you’ll have an idea of the weather you can expect but you’ll definitely need to cover most elements with shorts, pants, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. Make sure each family member packs accordingly and will be prepared for all elements. You might need rain gear, even snow gear depending on where you’re going, and plenty of cool clothes for the hot days.

Hitting the open road in a camper is a romantic notion, but you’ll want to be sure to plan ahead by securing spots in RV campgrounds in the areas you’re visiting. They’re all over the country and relatively cheap. Though of course at some points, you can just pull your camper off the road near a river, lake, or in the forest you’ll definitely need to use the facilities provided by campgrounds, like emptying your septic tank, a few times. Most RV campgrounds have showers and bathrooms that can bring welcome relief if you plan to be on the road for a while, too.

Once you have your camper packed and some campgrounds secured, you’ll just want to double check you have all the other camping essentials. Bring hiking guides and maps for the areas you’re going so you can plan a couple day hikes. You’ll need plenty of broad-spectrum sunscreen, insect repellent, iodine tablets to filter water, water bottles, hats, and sunglasses. Be sure not to forget your camera. It would be a shame to have no way to document your family trip.

When setting up your business and accessorizing your employees with all the necessities, you’ll want to find the most productive and cost-efficient choices. Here are some tips when comparing different cell phone plans to use for your business.

Start with narrowing down your options to at least two cell phone companies who have the best coverage in your area. Some of the most used ones include AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Boost. Even if some of them offer cheaper plans, if they don’t have the best coverage you could face a lot of annoying dropped calls and wasted time. Also take into consideration how often you’ll need to travel for business so you’ll know who has the best overall and international coverage. Once you have it narrowed down to your two or three best choices, you can more easily compare those companies’ business plans.

Unlimited minutes are probably your best bet when picking a plan to cover a whole company but those plans are obviously the most expensive. If you’re looking to save money on your business plan, figure out which company offers the best prices and the largest amount of free minutes. Many companies offer free mobile-to-mobile talk and text within their network and some offer that service for an additional fee. Depending on your budget for the cell phone package, you may want to choose the company that offers it without charge as long as those charges aren’t just being made up in other ways. Most carriers also offer free nights and weekends for calls to all other carriers as well. Though business plans will come with a lot of minutes to be shared among the employees, it will get expensive if your employees go over the allotted minutes. So the more chance they can use talk and text without spending minutes, the less chance you’ll have to pay overage fees.

Depending on your business type, it might also be beneficial to have unlimited text, data, video, and picture messaging included in the plan. See which company offers the best extras at the best cost. Again, cell phone companies can be sneaky and hide additional charges in different areas though, so make sure that any freebies aren’t being paid out in another way.

Also check into which company offers the best additional perks like the ability to add family and friends onto the plan, extra accessories, and free phones. When choosing mobile phones for business, your employees don’t necessarily need the latest and greatest technology. You can save money by picking a company that will offer free phones and other accessories.

Keep in mind, if you’re starting a new plan or facing a contract renewal, you have some leverage with cell phone companies. If they know they don’t already have your business and you’re shopping around for the best prices and deals or that you may end your service with your current company, they’ll usually work a little harder to keep you. Make it known you’re comparing prices and extras and you may just find a few extra freebies thrown your way.

Are you looking for some inexpensive to completely cost-free ways to make your home safer and burglar-proof? There are many cost-effective deterrents you can employ to protect your family and belongings from would-be intruders and thieves. Remember, intruders don’t just randomly select a home. They seek out homes that look unoccupied, provide cover from the street and passersby, or have poor lighting. So, how do you make intruders look away from your property?

Here are seven tips to make your home safer and burglar proof spending no money at all, and four extremely low cost tips for home owners, too.

Makes sure your house looks unfriendly to intruders. That means cleaning up any ragged or overgrown landscaping that not only provides a place for intruders to hide, but sends a signal that the homeowner may not care enough about his or her property to keep it well groomed, much less secure. Cut those bushes, mow that lawn, and keep those tree branches trimmed and away from windows and doors.

Leave those lights on. Make sure there are no burned out exterior bulbs. Consider installing brighter exterior lighting than you’ve used in the past. And when you’re away, keep your lights on by setting a timer, or ask a neighbor to turn them on and off for you.

Put security system signage on your lawn, and place stickers in your windows. Even if you don’t actually have a security system on site, potential intruders will think you have one, and often that kind of warning will be enough to send them packing.

Try a similar technique indicating you have a guard dog on the premises, whether you do or not. Leave a large dog bowl in a prominent spot, and post a “Beware of Dog” sign.

Make sure your children and family members know not to let strangers enter your home; never open a door to a stranger. And be sure to ask for identification from any utility workers or others you don’t know seeking access to your home for any reason.

Be sure to actually lock your windows and doors. Sounds simple, but often people forget, particularly in the summertime.

Join or start a neighborhood watch program. Keeping an eye on your neighbor’s home in return for an eye on yours is an excellent way to keep not just your property, but your entire neighborhood, safer.

If you have a small amount of money to spend, make it go a long way toward home security with these four additional tips.

First, spend a little and secure a lot by replacing easy-to-access spring locks with deadbolts. Simple to install and inexpensive, deadbolts are available at hardware and big box stores everywhere. Select a tough to disable ANSI Grade 1 lock for the best security. And be sure to employ deadbolts on all your doors, including any entrance between your garage and your home itself.

Buy an inexpensive, battery operated wedge alarm for each of your doors. It looks like a door stop but issues a powerfully loud alarm if anyone tries to force a door open against it.

Purchase an inexpensive wireless drive way alarm. Place it by your drive or walk way, and a loud alarm will sound if unexpected “guests” approach. Like the wedge alarm, this type of system is battery operated, tough to tamper with, and simple to install.

Install a do-it-yourself wireless security alarm system. This type of system uses sensors connected to a monitoring service that can summon law enforcement 24/7. Such wireless systems can also provide alerts against fire, smoke, flooding, carbon monoxide and other environmental hazards, too. A home security system no longer requires professional installation or costly hardwiring; wireless systems can be installed in a single afternoon with no technological know-how necessary.

Whatever no cost or low cost home security tips you decide to utilize, you can create a system that greatly enhances your safety without depleting your budget, both simply and quickly.

You have decided to move on and have found a new neighbourhood where you would like to live. Now it is time to sell your own house, but how do you go about it?

Time To Be Busy

First of all, remove all unnecessary clutter. Most people hoard huge amounts of material over the years. Moving house is a great opportunity to clear it all away. Give some of your hoard to relatives, friends and charity shops. Pack away the cherished family items that you wish to keep and store them away from the house until you are ready to move.

The next step is a complete house work over. When prospective buyers view a property, they prefer to see a clean house. Hire cleaners and a decorator if these are within your budget. This may pay dividends in the long term. A professional job done thoroughly makes the house look more enticing to buyers. Make sure that the all-important kitchen cupboards and bathroom cabinets are sparkling. Plaster over those little cracks; mend any damaged door handles and shelving.

You should also check all the electrical circuitry. Heating and hot water systems can be notoriously prone to loose connections. Check that the installed appliances work. All the lighting should be in perfect working order. The hallway is especially important as it must be well lit. This is the first impression a buyer will have of the house interior. A brightly lit hallway gives a spacious feeling.

Once the inside of your house is at its best, you can focus on the front of the house. Repaint the exterior of the front door so that your house stands out individually in the street. Polish the door knocker and post box. Make sure that any exterior porch lights are switched on when it gets dark and that the door bell is in good working order. Clear away all weeds, stones and extraneous items that might be cluttering up pathways and drives. Even out any tilted stones or slabs along a pathway. No buyer will appreciate tripping up outside your house.

Making The Garden Attractive

The fifth and final task is the garden. If you only have a pathway or driveway at the front of the house, cheer it up with a few potted plants or shrubs. If it is summertime, decorate the porch with some hanging baskets. Check the impression that the front garden or yard makes from both inside the house and from the street. It should be appealing from both directions.

If you have room to plant flowers in the front garden, make sure that these are low maintenance. Overgrown shrubs and flowers may give a homely feel to a back garden, but just look untidy at the front of a house.

Mow and fertilise the lawn. Make sure that all edges are trimmed neatly. Try to remove any obvious moss. Cover any bald patches on the lawn with fast growing lawn seed. A well-tended lawn with top quality grass can make a stunning first impression on a prospective buyer.

If it is late summer or autumn, plant lots of bulbs to make a good flower show in the spring. Tell your buyer that the garden will be in full bloom as the winter ends. It could move the sale.

For many people summer heralds the start of an annual reading spree. It’s a time of longer, lighter evenings, of time spent lazing in parks or by rivers and of course, the time of the annual holiday. Holiday reading for many women means a constant and unvarying diet of chick-lit. Whilst these are entertaining and amusing and often give some insight into how others live and love, they’re not exactly a challenge.

You might think that a challenge is the last thing you want when you’re on holiday, but far from being boring or hard work, more challenging works can stimulate the mind. They can fire your imagination and provide a deeper insight into life. They can make you look at events from a different angle and get you thinking thoughts you never normally would. Take a stroll into a different section next time you’re in the bookshop and see if you can’t open a few new windows on life this year.

The Classics

Not all classics are outdated and difficult to read. The works of Jane Austen remain as relevant to the issues and values of modern women as they were back when they were written. If you’ve never tried any of the classic novels before, a good one to start with is Pride and Prejudice. Made popular by film and TV adaptations, the books are easy to read and if you’re familiar with the story you’ll have the satisfaction of comparing the original to the new versions. You’ll find you quickly slip into the rhythm of the language of the day and enjoy Austen’s sharp and sometimes wicked sense of humour.

Autobiography

Reading autobiographies can be wonderfully revealing. How did famous people get to be who and where they are today? Have they surmounted impossible obstacles on the road to fame and fortune? If so, how? There’s so much to be learnt from those in the public eye. Aside from learning, many autobiographies are incredibly interesting; some of the biggest TV stars and sports players have lead fascinating lives, and their stories can rival even the most dramatic works of fiction. Try writers such as Caitlin Moran, the British TV critic, columnist and broadcaster, who brings a refreshing and original take to the concept of feminism in her book, How to be a Woman.

Essays

Essay collections too, such as the John Berger books, can take you out of yourself and your immediate comfort zone, providing a deep insight into worlds previously unknown. Ways of Seeing by John Berger, originally a companion text to a BBC television series on art, is a stimulating exploration of the way we look at images or works of art and discusses how they relate to and inform us about the world around us.

Self-Help

The self-help genre of books has never been bigger, with many aimed specifically at women. They throw insight into love and relationships, families and the larger, psychological issues such as dealing with low self-esteem or a lack of self-confidence. As the world constantly changes, becoming ever more complicated, self-help books distil subject knowledge into small, easily understood chunks and help us come to terms with the complexities of life. Books such as He’s Just Not That Into You by Liz Tuccillo and Greg Behrendt (the relationship consultants on the hit show, Sex and the City) are both smart and funny, revealing the dating and relationship excuses men come up with.

This summer, why not try something different? If you’re in a reading rut, always picking up the same type of books, maybe now’s the time to push back your literary boundaries.

Planning a conference can be a rewarding and enjoyable project with good organisation. Without this, however, it can rapidly become stressful and run poorly on the day. Many organisations will use specialist event management or internal teams to organise large conferences to professional standards. But there will still be occasions when staff members are expected to pitch in and organise their own large-scale events without specialist help.

So if you find yourself in this position, arm yourself with forward planning and great attention to detail and factor in budgets, generous lead times and contingency plans along the way. Discuss your planning with others, get sign-off from managers and decision makers at each stage and delegate whenever possible.

Practical considerations to focus on when planning a conference include the following:

Picking the Right Venue

Picking the right room and venue is the first aspect to consider when organising a conference. Check that it will have the space you need, both for the number of attendees and the activities planned. Ensure that the geography is suitable for participants. Check that it is accessible for any disabled delegates. Check costs against budget and negotiate on price whenever possible.

Venues close to road and transport networks are ideal for easy travelling. When booking northwest based conferences Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds are great destinations with excellent travel links, including roads, rail and airports. They also have plenty of good quality accommodation.

Food

Consider food carefully and split it throughout the event accordingly. Remember to cater for vegetarians and potential vegans or special dietary requirements depending on the delegates attending. Remember to capture this information on booking forms. Rather than have a single large and heavy meal, opt for light buffets and regular break out snacks and drinks to keep guests refreshed and high on energy.

Equipment and Facilities

Consider technical requirements carefully. It’s wise to keep your tech kit needs as simple as possible, as things will invariably go wrong on the day. Avoid ‘death by Powerpoint’ though and encourage your speakers to practise their presentations with expert training guidance so that they can engage with the audience effectively without relying on gimmicks or fancy technology.

Try using small breakout groups to focus on different subject areas, or smaller and more intimate sessions where Q&As can be run and interactive sessions be facilitated. If you are opting for big effects and video and high tech presentations, consider hiring an AV company to manage the lighting, speakers, microphones, TV screens and other kit for you. It will save a great deal of stress on the day if things do go wrong.

Entertainment

Most delegates will look forward to some entertainment at the end of the working day, especially if the conference is to last for more than one day and involve an element of networking. Good things to consider include post-conference networking drinks and snacks, a formal sit-down meal or gala dinner or an organised bus to the nearest city. Tailor the entertainment to the delegates and the subject of the conference.

These tips should help to get you thinking carefully about the conference. Plan it step by step as though you were a delegate and ask what you’d want to experience and see at each stage. Ensure too that there is plenty of staff on hand on the day to meet and greet delegates. Remember too to approach the day with a sense of humour. Things are bound to go wrong; so accept this, think quickly to solve any situations and do the best you can without expecting perfection!

Getting stuck with a bad locksmith brings consequences. From damaging your door or window, to not being able to unlock your door, to not actually being a certified locksmith, there are horror stories of all kinds from customers who used the first locksmith they could find in a desperate situation. How can you protect yourself from getting in a similar situation? Your safest bet will be to find a reputable locksmith before the need arises and here are some tips on how.

Start the old fashioned way of asking family, neighbors, and friends whom they’ve used in the past. Referrals remain one of the best ways to find quality work since you have witness that the business or person does a good job, has fair prices, and is trustworthy. Asking someone you trust ensures you’re receiving honest feedback about a locksmith so you won’t be stuck in a snowstorm waiting for a sketchy guy in a van to come unlock your car. Another old-fashioned method would be checking your phonebook and researching any possible locksmiths with the Better Business Bureau. Consumers these days are usually pretty good about honestly reporting bad experiences with the BBB so you’ll find if a locksmith has had any complaints filed against him before you ever even call the business.

Of course, there are also the endless resources available on the Internet to find quality businesses. With sites like AngiesList, Yelp, and Google Reviews you can find all businesses in your area complete with user reviews. People tend to take these seriously and you’ll still find honest reviews.

Finding a locksmith before the need arises will give you plenty of time to research the business as well. You can verify certification, ask for references, and even ensure the business is legitimate by visiting their site or at least calling and making sure they answer their provided phone number with the correct business name and in a professional manner.

What happens when you’re stuck in a parking lot and your keys are shining in the sunlight from your driver’s seat and you haven’t had time to research a reputable locksmith? If you don’t have an Internet ready smartphone on which you can look up a locksmith, you’re not at a loss. If your insurance offers roadside assistance, your car comes with roadside assistance through a program like OnStar, or you have AAA, you should be able to get someone to you through any of them. Even if your insurance company doesn’t offer roadside assistance, your agent will most likely have a list of locksmiths he or she recommends.

With the amount of locksmith resources and reviews readily available these days, even in a desperate situation you should be able to find a trustworthy and reputable professional to help you out of that sticky situation. Your safety is most important so taking a couple hours and researching a locksmith to call when needed could keep you safe and even save you some money. No matter when you find your locksmith, trust your instinct and you’ll avoid shady locksmiths.

As the old song goes, the best things in life are free. And while you can often hunt down coupons, pick up rewards cards and purchase consistently at one store or restaurant to earn free stuff over time, there is one day that you don’t want to have to work for those freebies. And that’s your birthday, the one day of the year when everything is about you, and you generally get to be a superstar wherever you go. Most businesses offer deals for their customers on their birthday, so it’s easy enough to take advantage if those destinations were already a part of your plans. But there are also some websites you can check out to line your birthday with free stuff in advance, and enjoy your day wholeheartedly. Here are a few sites you should check out to help you get all the free stuff on your birthday that you could possible handle.

BirthdayFreebies.com is a great website for that once-a-year occasion. You’ll have to sign up for this one, which will launch a membership, but the company is adamant that they don’t share your information with any third parties. The sign up process is super simple as well, so you won’t waste any of those precious birthday hours on annoying web content. Once you’re signed up, you’ll customize a search of free stuff based on your zip code. All of the listings that come back to you will show the business, their contact, a description of the deal and any sort of fine print it may include. They also provide a link to each business, so you can get right there to accept your free stuff.

FreeBirthdayTreats.com is a great option if you want to minimize your exposure to spam. You won’t have to register for any sort of membership here, and you can go right into searching by zip code without delay. The difference here is that some of the offers returned by your search will require you joining that company’s club or loyalty program. But the advantage is that you could find deals that will extend for the entire week or month of your birthday. Many of us like to celebrate before and after the actual day, so if you’d like to keep the party going all month long, this is the site for you.

FreeBirthdayStuff.com will also require a membership, but after that they’ll get you right to a list of companies offering birthday freebies. You can search nationally, so if your birthday will take you on a vacation somewhere, you’ll find a great list of options here regardless of where you’ll be. They’ve got more than 4,500 companies participating on their list, so you’re certain to find whatever you’re looking for all in one place.

Finally, consider hopping off the computer and checking out your neighborhood. Call around to your favorite places to see what’s possible for your birthday. Remember, not every freebie is created equal. Just because some restaurant is offering a free dessert doesn’t mean you would actually want to eat there. Focus your search on the places you’d actually like to go to, and see what they are offering. Free stuff is great, but having a great time on your birthday is the most important thing. You may find a lot of options on a site like FreeStuffandSamples.com, but if it’s all poor quality, it won’t be worth the time you put into searching it out.

When you’re in need of a lawyer you can expect to dole out a good amount of money. If you don’t have the extra funds saved up or available, this could make finding a lawyer much more stressful. Depending on the type of your case, fees are usually negotiable and you could save some expenses in your budget by simply negotiating these fees with your lawyer.

As is the case with most purchases, shopping around a little can help you save. When meeting with potential representation, make it known that you’re checking into multiple options with every meeting. Even if you have no other meetings set up, you’ll put yourself in a good position to negotiate fees if the lawyer knows he doesn’t automatically get your business. Most attorneys have no-charge consultations with for new clients so you won’t risk anything by meeting with several options.

During these meetings ascertain how each charges his clients. Some will bill at an hourly rate and some have flat-rate fees. In some cases, you might be able to work out a contingency fee meaning that your lawyer will receive a certain percentage of any monetary gain you win at the end of the case. Contingency plans are not available for certain types of cases like divorce, bankruptcy, and criminal proceedings. Ask each attorney you meet with to outline his fees so you know from where to start your negotiating.

It will help you keep your costs within your budget if you figure out a maximum amount you’re able to spend before going in to any meetings. If you can’t talk a certain lawyer into your budgetary restraints, you’ll just have to move on to the next one. When negotiating fees, the lawyers will be much more practiced in the process than you but if you go in with a good idea of how much you can spend you’re more likely to find representation that fits your budget. You’ll of course want to leave some breathing room around your amounts to allow for negotiation.

You’ll also want to discuss what other charges you’ll be responsible for paying with each attorney. Extra charges include fees for court documents, parking, paralegals and other associates of the firm, courier services, and consultations among many others. See if you can’t do any of this work on your own to help you save money. The more you can do to help during the preparation process, the less the attorney will charge you.

Once you’ve picked your attorney and you both have settled on a fee agreement don’t forget to get the fees outlined in a contract that you both sign. This will help prevent any issues over payment. Both you and the attorney should keep an original of the signed contract for your records.

When starting your search for reputable attorneys don’t forget you can always ask for help. Ask family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues who they have used for representation and why or why they didn’t like the lawyer. This could also help you get an idea of how much you can expect to spend on Bob M. Cohen & Associates versus Martin Smith & Johnson.

Yes, lawyers cost a lot but when you need representation, they’re a necessity. With these tips you can hopefully keep your attorney fees within a range you can afford. Good luck negotiating!

Educational furniture is key to the set up of any classroom. In order to create the most productive learning environment, you should look to make the most of the space available and create the right balance between fun and learning. Choosing the right educational furniture can play a key part in the look and ambience of the classroom.

Here are some tips to help you select the right furniture:

Brands

As with anything, you should try to ensure you purchase established brands in order to get the best furniture. You select a supplier who is registered to ISO 9001 – an industry standard. There are also a number of market-leading brands to look out for that have a vast wealth of experience in producing top quality fit-for-purpose educational furniture, such as Gartnells and Monarch.

Common Educational Furniture Types

Storage – The utilisation of space is paramount in the set up of most classrooms. The school environment tends to be extremely busy and fast paced, so you should look for the most practical storage solutions to help you get the most from the space available. There are various types of storage solutions commonly used in education establishments including shallow trays, combination tray storage, right through to mobile library trolleys and bookshelves. The right combination of these storage solutions can help you keep the classroom free from clutter by housing learning materials such as books or art equipment.

Chairs and Seating – It’s safe to say given the average number of students per classroom, that chairs and tables are likely to take up the majority of the space. Therefore there are subtle decisions that you can make which can really make a difference. By selecting chairs that will fold flat or can be easily stacked together – or picking desks that chairs can be safely stacked on – can vastly increase the space in the classroom. The layout of the desks should also be carefully considered by creating a seating plan to help you best visualise how to use the space available.

Pricing

The budgets available for most education establishments can be relatively restrictive, so it’s important that you know where to look for the best deals. You should seek out a supplier who specialises in providing furniture for education as it is likely that their pricing will be devised with careful consideration to the budgets of schools and colleges. These specialists will also tend to have discounts available through bulk purchases or regular offers.

By using this guide to ensure that you carefully select your educational furniture, you really can make a big difference to the learning environment.

It may be an indication that your partner has been seeing someone without your knowledge. If you notice that your spouse has been wearing best of clothes, hitting the gym at regular intervals, taking extra care on personal hygiene, and so on, then you may be in trouble.

Unfaithful spouses try hard not to get caught cheating on their partners and hence, they start checking on you more frequently than before. They want to ensure that they are not caught red handed and also, you will have less or no chance to check on them.

A quitclaim deed is a legal instrument used to deliver or “quit” an owner’s interest in a property to another person or entity sometimes a corporation or trust. However, since a quit claim deed does not offer the same protection of a warranty deed which is typically used in real estate sales and transactions, they are mostly used in transfers of property amongst family members.

In a quitclaim deed, the individual transferring the real estate is referred to as the grantor and the individual receiving the property is referred to as the grantee. The trouble with quitclaim deeds is that they do not offer grantees much protection as stated in the opening paragraph and this is why they are very rarely used in real estate sales or transfers.

In a quitclaim deed the grantor does not make any claims as to the title of the property. Basically that means if there are any clouds on the title, the grantor is not responsible for them. Clouds are essentially irregularities in the title of a property and that usually equals a huge risk for the person receiving the property particularly if they are paying for it. The grantor in a quitclaim deed does not make any claims that the property he is turning over is free of debt or that any other person claims to own the property. As you can see, receiving a transfer of property via a quitclaim deed can be very risky if you are the grantee so when are quitclaim deeds used?

Since quitclaim deeds offer such little protection, they are most used when a fast transfer of the property’s title is needed such as when a property is transferred to an ex-spouse after a divorce. A quitclaim deed can also be used safely to add a new spouse to a property after a marriage. In other cases, parents often also use quitclaim deeds to deed their homes to their heirs or into a trust. Another popular use for quit claim deeds is to transfer a real estate property over to a business entity such as an LLC or a corporation. Overwhelmingly, quitclaim deeds are used amongst or by people who are related or have a pre-existing relationship.

By signing a quitclaim deed and giving it to a grantee, the grantor is essentially “quitting” any interest, whatever it may be, in the property. Once the deed is delivered to the grantee, the transfer of property is final. If you are not completely familiar with the effects of a quitclaim deed it is best to consult with an experienced real estate attorney familiar with titles and deeds to walk your through all of the possible consequences and repercussions. The fact of the matter is that after you sign over a quitclaim deed, it may be impossible to reclaim your property.

To file a quitclaim deed you first need to download and complete the quitclaim deed form specific to your state. You should type or fill in the form using black ink. Make sure to fill out the entire form and sign it before a notary public. To execute the quitclaim deed, you must deliver the quitclaim deed to the grantee. You can also record the deed by filing it with the local recording office.

If you thought only humans benefit from a chiropractic adjustment, think again. All animals can have back problems. Just like massages can help relax and rejuvenate any animal species, so can chiropractic care. If this seems like a career you’d be interested in, first realize you have a long and expensive road ahead of you before you’re a licensed animal chiropractor. Then follow these steps to become an animal chiropractor.

School

First you’re going to have to become either a licensed vet or a licensed doctor of chiropractic. You’ll need to attend a four-year vet school and to get accepted into those vet schools you’ll have to first attend a four-year university and obtain a science degree to fulfill all the necessary prerequisites. The same applies to becoming a licensed chiropractor; you’ll first have to attend a four-year school, in some cases two years of prerequisite work will suffice, and then attend a school of chiropractic. Either way you choose, you’ll face four to eight years in school before you can start your certification courses.

Animal Chiropractic Program

Once you’ve completed all the necessary school, your next step is attending an accredited program in one of the programs dedicated to animal chiropractic care. You can find a list of available options through the Animal Chiropractic Accreditation Commission (ACAC) from the AVCA. Programs may vary but generally speaking you can expect programs to require a minimum of 200 hours of classroom study and lab work to pass.

Certification and Internship

Once you pass your program, you’ll acquire the exam handbook for chiropractic candidates. You then have up to a year after completing your coursework to pass both clinical and written examinations administered by the ACAC. Once you pass your exams, you have a year to complete an internship that usually requires 40 hours of supervised work. After you complete your internship phase, you’ll have to pass another round of both clinical and written exams. Once you’ve finished all of this, you’ll send all necessary documentation to both the American Veterinary Chiropractic Commission and the American Chiropractic Certification Commission to obtain, at last, your certification.

Certification Renewal

Once you’re certified you will have to renew every three years. It’s also advisable to attend as many seminars and specialized trainings as you can throughout your career to stay up with the latest techniques and practices animal chiropractors use.

It’s a long process and you can expect to shell out around $100,000 dollars in tuition and other costs but once you’re working with animals, making their lives better and more comfortable, the time and money will surely be worth it. It’s a highly specialized field in which you’ll need extensive knowledge physiology, neurology, anatomy, toxicology, internal pathology, and biomechanics among much, much more.

If you’re still interested in this career path after reading this, then good for you and good luck with the journey ahead of you! If you’re interested in a career that makes people or animals feel better both mentally and physically but requires less training, you may want to consider a Bellevue massage school or any of the accredited licensing programs available for massage therapy.

When it comes to writing your college application essay, much of your success will depend on choosing the perfect topic. That can certainly seem daunting. Most application essays leave the topic up to you, so how can you possibly narrow that down? Luckily, members of college application boards have sounded off on the tens of thousands of essays they’ve read, and certain trends have presented themselves. If you consider what tends to work, while also making the application essay uniquely your own you can vastly improve your chances of success. Here are a few things you should keep in mind that will help you select the best topic for your college application essay.

First off, you’ll want to come up with something that’s personal to you. The application essay is your chance to show the board who you are beyond your grade point average and extracurricular activities. They want to get to know you, and landing on a topic that’s compelling is the best way. With that in mind, avoid topics that directly mirror information that can be found in other parts of your application. This is not the time to go over your grades or how well you did on the SAT. The essay should show them something new, so avoid the repeats. In the end, it’s most important that you are honest and truly being yourself. Unless you’re an absolutely incredibly writer, you want to write what you know, and that means being real. The admissions board reads a ton of essays each year, so if you try to fake your way through a topic, they’re going to know about it.

Next, you want to make sure that your application essay topic is unique. Of course, you want to make a great impression, but that doesn’t mean being safe all the time. A safe essay can too easily become a boring one, and that won’t help you stand out. Don’t be afraid to take some risks. Be funny if there’s room for it, and even a bit controversial if it fits the subject matter. That being said, try to avoid any seriously hot-button issues for the sake of sensationalism. Religion and politics may be important to you, but if your essay takes a strong stance in one direction and the person assigned to read your essay happens to believe the exact opposite, you could be shooting yourself in the foot. You want the essay to be memorable, but not because it was alienating or arrogant.

Finally, think about how your essay will fit within the rest of your application. Remember, they aren’t simply analyzing the essay as a sample of your writing skills, but as a picture of who you are. So if you are writing about a bad situation or a failure, try to spin it in such a way that it still supports your strengths, or shows how you overcame adversities. And though a story about your binge drinking or battles with ADD may feel authentic to you, they won’t make the admissions board want to see you roaming their halls any time soon. Bring a unique perspective, but make sure the essay reflects well on you overall, and paints a three dimensional picture of the person described in the rest of your application.

If the topics you are considering pass review under these circumstances, you’ve got something good on your hands. Remember, the application essay could make the difference between you getting into the school of your dreams or settling for that online accounting masters degree down the road. You hold all the cards on how you present yourself, so consider the subject carefully and you’ll be well on your way towards crafting a winning application essay.
