The project was to show speed. We thought it would be fun to dress up in my motorcycle racing leathers and ride a bicycle with packages strapped to the back. I think the photos turned out well. What do you think?<br />

With the quarantine, I've been digging around my bulging drafts folder. I found this gem from the winter of 2014 which was never published here or on youtube.<br />
<br />
Enjoy a short clip of me riding the Ural at -22.5F which I'm going to call -23F. With the windchill, it's colder than -60F at 60mph. I rode around for about 30 minutes on the freeway before going home. I'm not sure why I never posted about this. I edited the video nearly 90%, and didn't finish. What was 2014 me thinking?<br />
<br />
Enjoy the video!<br />

<br />
It has been great to get back on the motorcycle this year! After the crash last year, I didn't ride. I was waiting for my body to heal up. I'm happy to report, I've graduated physical therapy and have been riding regularly this year!<br />
<br />
I had to replace some of my gear and get some things repaired. I have a new R3 light vs my R1 light from Aerostich. I also got a new helmet and am now using an R2 from Schuberth since they don't make my Arai anymore. Thankfully, I got a great deal on the Schubert as a ridercoach through the MSF. I was also able to send my airbag vest into Helite and they repaired the damage on the shoulder.<br />
<br />
I haven't repaired the SV650 yet. It's been sitting in the corner of the garage. More time for me to enjoy the Vstrom! I do intend to fix it, but haven't found the motivation to do so yet. I hope you are able to get out on your bike and enjoy the ride!<br />

I recently crashed and wearing my gear saved my life and prevented serious injury. Dont get me wrong, I'm still hurt. However, I'm at home sleeping in my own bed versus being in the hospital. There are no broken bones, just lots of bruises and the mental scars of the event. <div><br><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pnI3Stpz6XA/XO2k9PAA1pI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/5TrWt5Gf15YlfDuDVPGlmDBkWGF_JwkmwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077880098.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pnI3Stpz6XA/XO2k9PAA1pI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/5TrWt5Gf15YlfDuDVPGlmDBkWGF_JwkmwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077880098.jpeg" alt="" width="500" height="392" data-original-width="500" data-original-height="392"></a></div><br></div><div>It was a lovely spring day. The sun was shining and warm. It was well into shorts and sandles weather in the mid 80s. I was excited for tasty home cooked meal at my girlfriend's house. I had stayed a little late at work and missed most of rush hour. </div><div><br></div><div>I carefully zipped up my roadcrafter over my shorts and t-shirt after securing my boots. I attached the tether from my helite vest to my sv650. I fastened my arai helmet and strapped my gauntlet gloves on. The SV purred to life as I left the office lot.</div><div><br></div><div>I quickly entered onto I94e from the downtown St Paul entrance ramp and looked for a place to merge. A light colored sedan came from the left, dive bombing the upcoming exit ramp from the far left lane, crossing over three lanes. I saw it coming and quickly started to brake. I barely missed the rear bumper of the car as it continued to exit never knowing I was there. I missed it by mere inches. </div><div><br></div><div>The bumper was the last thing I remember seeing before the world spun around and around. "Dont target fixate" I tell my students, "look where you want to go!" I was looking down and that's where I went. </div><div><br></div><div>I crashed in the right lane of I94e. I couldn't move at first. The airbag deployed very tightly around me, protecting me. I took a moment to take stock of my situation.<span style="font-family: sans-serif;"> The bike was leaking gasoline, radiator fluid and oil. I turned off the bike. "I dont want to start on fire I thought." Which quickly turned to "get out of the road!" </span><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">My right leg was pinned under the bike as I lay in traffic. I couldn't get up nor could I get free. Deep breath and keep trying. I didnt want to get run over as traffic was flowing freely when I went down. I tried harder and managed to pull my leg free. I tried to stand and felt horrible pain in my right leg, so I hopped as fast as I could to the shoulder and flopped down. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xzZXXpIT8Lc/XO2k9u0t-rI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/o95xYLcCQoUmg78iuxzM_mXP1mF9rc3zACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077922136.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xzZXXpIT8Lc/XO2k9u0t-rI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/o95xYLcCQoUmg78iuxzM_mXP1mF9rc3zACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077922136.jpeg" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-original-width="500" data-original-height="375"></a></div><br><br></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">By this time, others had stopped and came to help. "Are you ok they asked?" I was dazed. I replied "I dont know, I hurt all over." I was breathing really quickly. I forced my self to breathe slower. I took off the airbag vest which was bear hugging me. Then fumbled with my gloves and helmet. Someone was asking me to look at him, so I did. I saw someone else talking to 911 on their cellphone as I heard sirens coming. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hlGGvtNkQ6A/XO2k9xkw25I/AAAAAAAAAKA/Ba2GN7qjEVMZP8EAxXCcPw3wXP3XXJ4-wCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077934463.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hlGGvtNkQ6A/XO2k9xkw25I/AAAAAAAAAKA/Ba2GN7qjEVMZP8EAxXCcPw3wXP3XXJ4-wCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077934463.jpeg" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-original-width="500" data-original-height="375"></a></div><br><br></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">An off duty trooper saw the bike as he drove from i35e south onto i94e. He spun around and drove the wrong way, against traffic to get to me. I later learned he was on his way to take his pregnant wife to the hospital and had seen a motorcyclist die a week earlier. He was worried I would be next. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-atsSPrsygY0/XO2k-HTch7I/AAAAAAAAAKE/WG8PC5vS0nkD9jzeJXOoDoltNgYp0kq6gCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077942670.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-atsSPrsygY0/XO2k-HTch7I/AAAAAAAAAKE/WG8PC5vS0nkD9jzeJXOoDoltNgYp0kq6gCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077942670.jpeg" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-original-width="500" data-original-height="375"></a></div><br><br></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">When the trooper arrived, the others left. He took my license and started asking me questions. I tried to explain what happened. I was still a bit dazed. Then there was firefighters and an ambulance. I asked for some ice for my leg and left hand. The trooper talked into his radio calling it in. He told me he didnt believe my story and that his partner had seen me doing wheelies further back. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">I took the rest of my gear off. The EMTs examined me while the firefighters admired my gear. The EMT asked if I had hit my head, I replied "nope!" Then we both looked at the road rash across my helmet and I updated my statement to "I guess I did hit my head." The EMTs concluded unlikely to have broken bones and strapped some ice packs on me. They all remarked I was lucky to be alive and that I had good gear. Then they left. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">It was just me, the trooper and a highway helper at that point. The trooper said we should get my bike out of traffic and made me get up to help him and the helper. I hobbled after them and watched them lift the bike up while I fiddled with the shifter to get it back into neutral. Then they backed it onto the shoulder next to my gear. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">I have towing as part of my America Motorcycle Association membership. I tried to find the number in my phone. I couldn't figure it out. I recognized I wasnt thinking clearly earlier and took pictures to try and remember what had happened. I called my girlfriend and asked her to come get me. Then I called another friend to come get my bike with a trailer. Both quickly said yes and came to my rescue. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">The trooper asked me to sit in the back of his car as it was safer. I agreed. I saw him typing on his computer to someone that he didnt believe me and that I made the story up about the other car. I was gutted and angry. I stayed silent. Getting mad at him wouldn't help anything. How could he not believe me?! </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">Another trooper came and they walked over to my motorcycle to talk. They chatted for a while. I kept holding my ice packs. I was up to three and out of hands and straps to hold the fourth. My original walked around to my side of the car. I had the rear door open and was trying to stay focused on my cold packs. He said the other trooper confirmed my gear and bike didnt match the other rider. He then surprised me by apologizing. After that, he became much nicer offering me some advil and water. I was grateful he was mature enough to admit his mistake! I'm also happy that I didnt argue with him earlier which would have probably made things worse.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">We chatted about his soon to be fatherhood while we waiting for my ride. My friend got there first with the trailer. The trooper helped him load the bike and helped me pick up my gear and place it in the back of the truck. I wished him good luck and hope that he is a proud father of his first child now. He thanked me for wearing gear and left. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Bl4GORvHEsc/XO2k-vdS_3I/AAAAAAAAAKI/VQKQaaqu5xU1rU_yWpjr010R-S_xUegYQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077968875.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Bl4GORvHEsc/XO2k-vdS_3I/AAAAAAAAAKI/VQKQaaqu5xU1rU_yWpjr010R-S_xUegYQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559077968875.jpeg" alt="" width="500" height="375" data-original-width="500" data-original-height="375"></a></div><br><br></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;">My friend drove us off the freeway where we met up with my girlfriend and then we drove to my house. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v_ZIJwCQe5s/XO2k_KGvz_I/AAAAAAAAAKM/fszO-7SiV_c0FGEftR2jEgvo7XF1C7rcQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559078006919.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v_ZIJwCQe5s/XO2k_KGvz_I/AAAAAAAAAKM/fszO-7SiV_c0FGEftR2jEgvo7XF1C7rcQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_ORG_1559078006919.jpeg" alt="" width="500" height="666" data-original-width="500" data-original-height="666"></a></div><br><br></div><div><font face="sans-serif">I few days later went to the doctor for xrays and to confirm my suspicions on my injuries. <div dir="ltr" lang="en">
This month the <a href="http://www.motorcycleshows.com/">International Motorcycle Show</a> came to Minneapolis. I worked the <a href="http://www.motorcyclesafety.org/">MMSC</a> booth encouraging riders to take training and handing out the coveted “Start Seeing <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/" target="_blank">Motorcycles</a>” bumper stickers. I had a great time chatting with all the current and future riders who stopped by. </div>

The highlight of the show for me was the freestyle <a href="http://everydayriding.org/">motorcycle</a> stunt show. I tried to capture a few pictures and posted a short video to <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/EverydayRiding">twitter</a>. They barely do the show justice. The flips and tricks were really impressive. </div>

There were quite a few interesting bikes in the custom bike show contest. These are some of my favorites. <br />

Overall, the show was decent. Sadly, I wasn’t very excited about any of the new bikes the various manufacturers had. I also don’t need any new gear, so many of the booths weren’t interesting. I did pick up some brochures for a couple track day events and some new more advanced rider training. I’m looking forward to those. <br />
Did you attend an IMS show recently? What did you think?<div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. My goal was to leave Minnesota 12 times. I spent Christmas and New Years in and around Sydney. For Christmas, I was in The Blue Mountains and spent time hiking and relaxing. I rode the Skyway in Scenic World (pictured above). The Skyway is a cable car with lots of windows and a glass floor. One of the views from the Skyway is below. Very beautiful!</p> <p><img title="x500--1" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--1" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Qy3dDIALnDk/WJaL1W7qP3I/AAAAAAAAPLo/aMZLI72597A/x500--1%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>I made a 360VR video using a <a href="http://amzn.to/2l9X2J4" target="_blank">Gear 360</a> and posted it to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/EverydayRiding">YouTube</a>. Since I sold my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2009-ural-patrol.html">Ural</a> earlier this year, I finally had the funds to make it a reality. </p> <p>I got very lucky with craigslist and found a DL650 very near my house and for a great price. I was really excited once I saw it had ABS. It was covered in dust and cobwebs. The front tire was very sketchy and cupped, but I rode it home safely. The previous owner didn’t ride it at all.</p> <p>I’ve had it for over a month now, and I love it! I don’t know why I waited to get it! It is a lot like my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2001-suzuki-sv650.html">SV650</a>, but with better wind protection, ABS, and better luggage support (no more broken racks!). The fuel injection is a nice bonus, and I feel safer having ABS again. </p> <p>I’ve changed the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ4FGMQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00DJ4FGMQ&linkCode=as2&tag=everyridin-20&linkId=L64USKGJ7YTES5MJ">oil</a>, lubed the chain, changed the brake fluid, new front tire, new rack to accept my givi bags, and a windshield adjuster from madstad. Next up are heated grips and hand guards to keep the rain off. </p> <p>I look forward to many more fun miles to come!</p> <p> </p> <p>PS: Thanks Steve for the photo! </p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. I’ve had it for sale for a couple weeks now. It was something I have been wanting to do for many months. I’ve struggled to bring myself to sell it. It felt like it was part of my identity even though I only rode it a few times in the last year. </p> <p>I originally bought it because I loved the look of it and the idea of it. I wanted to experience the challenge and adventure of riding a <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> in the winter. A sidecar seemed much safer than the scooter I was riding previously and it was. </p> <p>Over the years, the challenge and adventure started to wane. I had “figured it out” if you will and it became routine and easy. After six years of riding in the winter, it became a chore. There wasn’t a break that I have now with the car. When I am too tired to ride, but could still drive. I previously had to stay home. There is more balance now. </p> <p>I love riding in the snow and in the extreme cold! There aren’t that many days were those have been happening in MN lately. I also loved the impact I had on those around me. Being able to brighten someone’s day just by riding to work was a nice thrill. </p> <p>I’m not sure what will replace the Ural yet. I’m eyeballing a vstrom. I’ve been looking at them for a few years now. An R6 sounds fun as does another sidecar. I’m also not sure what my winter riding future has in store for me. I am not done with winter riding; just done with Ural winter riding. Stay tuned to find out what’s next as I figure it out myself.</p> <p><img title="x500--1-2" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--1-2" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BFyObaZ14aw/V6qQE4lGEnI/AAAAAAAAO5M/myXQGvhrMHM/x500--1-2%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="285" /></p> <p>Above is the proud new owner of my Ural. I sold it with 17,000km on the odometer which was broken, so it was more likely 20,000km. I’ve had it since it came out of a crate in 2009. It’s been a fun bike, and I am glad to see it going to a good home. </p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. I have since removed them from all of my vehicles.</b><p> <p>The shockwave is the newest horn from <a href="https://screaming-banshee.com/" target="_blank">Screaming Banshee</a>. It’s smaller, lighter, cheaper, and most importantly, louder! </p> <p>I’ve had very loud horns on my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/" target="_blank">motorcycles</a> and cars before. They were kind of frustrating since they only had one sound: crazy loud. One of the things I like about the shockwave is how it has two loudness modes. The first with a quick tap is normal 100db, but with a long press it is the full 123db! Nice to say “hi” and another to say “look out!”. </p> <p>It was easy to install this horn on my SV650 and it is MUCH louder than the stock. I ended up putting it on the left side of the engine since there isn’t room above the fender in the stock location. </p> <p>These are the tools I used to install the horn on my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2001-suzuki-sv650.html">SV650</a>. </p> <p><img title="Banshee Shockwave" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Banshee Shockwave" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CksE7lW8zPg/V4gn8xwLxCI/AAAAAAAAOzo/1yOmnmGTzM0/x500-Banshee%252520Shockwave-25%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N37FSO?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000N37FSO">Socket wrench</a> with extension</li> <li>4mm hex head</li> <li>6mm hex head</li> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000950PN?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0000950PN">Philips screwdriver</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FW7W2M?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000FW7W2M">14mm wrench</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006HVU4W/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399369&creativeASIN=B0006HVU4W">pliers</a></li> <li>wire cutters</li> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1RSNS?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000I1RSNS">blue loctite</a> </li> <li>2 small <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004WLJ9?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00004WLJ9">zip ties</a> and 2 large zip ties</li><li>includes affiliate links to support the blog</li> </ul> <p><img title="Banshee Shockwave" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Banshee Shockwave" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-r0XCW6KoTSg/V4gn9bNpa2I/AAAAAAAAOzs/qXStIJ0hoIw/x500-Banshee%252520Shockwave-3%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="449" /></p> <p>The contents of the Shockwave box. My goal for 2016 is one trip a month. This last weekend’s trip to Oregon was easily the best trip of 2016. The competition so far includes Miami, Thunder Bay, Costa Rica, Austin, and Colorado. Oregon was filled with friends, lots of fun, and <a href="http://everydaytastiness.com">tasty</a> food. </p> <p><img title="x500-Brad and Chris" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500-Brad and Chris" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wb2AbmrDCTg/V2cT1jhG_kI/AAAAAAAAOls/N2xZ5tyzY-Q/x500-Brad%252520and%252520Chris%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="335" /></p> <p>I flew out to Oregon and took a shuttle down to Corvallis to meet up with <a href="http://trobairitztablet.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Trobairitz</a> and <a href="http://troubadourtriumph.blogspot.com/">Troubadour</a>. It has been too many years since we last had fun together. I first met them on my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/p/everyday-for-7-weeks-san-diego-by-way.html" target="_blank">Everyday for 7 Weeks</a> trip and we have been friends ever since. </p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LDTw-_U6CCA/V2cT2OzKSUI/AAAAAAAAOl0/2FXSBqh_4OY/s1600-h/x500-Brandy%252520Pizza-1%25255B4%25255D%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="Brandy Pizza" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Brandy Pizza" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-u_D9HD4y-x8/V2cT2jR9FKI/AAAAAAAAOl8/_NTTgGiqB04/x500-Brandy%252520Pizza-1%25255B4%25255D_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="500" /></a></p> <p>Of course, before I left Portland, I had to grab some delicious food. This is the southwest bowl which went perfect with a marionberry cider. <img title="Southwest Bowl at Bye and Bye" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Southwest Bowl at Bye and Bye" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2l-4ak8T4Lw/V2cT2wRDPhI/AAAAAAAAOmE/ALbUoJGr-Ac/x500-Southwest%252520Bowl%252520at%252520Bye%252520and%252520Bye-1-2%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>Trobairitz was gracious enough to let me ride her Gladius, so Troubadour and I took off into the Oregon mountains for some two-wheeled fun. After trying on a combination of their gear, her helmet, my gloves, his boots, my buff, and his spare roadcrafter, I was ready to go. The flowers and butterflies on the helmet were cute; too bad they didn’t show up in photos. </p> <p><img title="Riding the Gladius" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Riding the Gladius" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hw2b18n_T9I/V2cT3W-5CQI/AAAAAAAAOmM/O8x-1mw02o0/x500-Riding%252520the%252520Gladius-1%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>The riding was magnificent despite the minor rain here and there. It is Oregon after all; rain is expected. The Gladius is very similar to my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2001-suzuki-sv650.html">SV650</a> which made me feel very comfortable riding it. </p> <p><img title="x500-Alsea Falls" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500-Alsea Falls" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OaARcz2Q7Y0/V2cT3sBTeiI/AAAAAAAAOmU/UwWz5krURMs/x500-Alsea%252520Falls%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>Troubadour took me on a tour around the area stopping at Alsea falls and then we had a spirited ride up Mary’s Peak. So fun</p> <p><img title="Marys Peak Flowers" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Marys Peak Flowers" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BtjBbtdyUBs/V2cT4L6leOI/AAAAAAAAOmc/DUHCI3TqUqQ/x500-Marys%252520Peak%252520Flowers-1%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>On my last trip out, we ran out of daylight before we could ride up. It was great. It was a valiant effort, but we didn’t succeed. Did I mention it was delicious? We stopped to look at a few <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> shops in between stuffing ourselves. We had fun being silly. </p> <p>Troubadour trying on a new helmet at the Vespa shop. It was nice to see her again and introduce her to T&T. After an enjoyable brunch, we headed to the coast for some more eye candy interspersed with some brief hiking. </p> <p><img title="Oregon Coast" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Oregon Coast" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7v4znuvXOFM/V2cT7URsAbI/AAAAAAAAOnc/OF_tvBqDqVo/x500-Oregon%252520Coast-1%25255B19%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>I was gushing a bit on the drive out there. More tasty food was had in Eugene on the way back from the coast. Yes, those are whole cloves of garlic. Yum!</p> <p><img title="Pizza Reach Institute" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Pizza Reach Institute" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sfLRWl26x1I/V2cT8nim26I/AAAAAAAAOn0/A2vvcm6xHOQ/x500-Pizza%252520Reach%252520Institute-1%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>It was a great trip! I ate entirely too much food; my scale must be lying as it said I gained six pounds?! I got to ride a motorcycle in the mountains and gawk at the ocean. The best part was being able to visit three awesome people. I can’t wait to go back to Oregon!</p> <p><img title="Friends on the Coast" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Friends on the Coast" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qF6P5BBCZsg/V2cT841fPBI/AAAAAAAAOn8/vJ6R6I2VmNw/x500-Friends%252520on%252520the%252520Coast-1%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. <br />
Minnesota has been experiencing a heat wave the past week with temperatures in the high 40s F. Time for a <a href="http://everydayriding.org/">motorcycle</a> ride! <a href="http://www.onegirltwocities.com/">Laura</a> and I picked the <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2005-kymco-super-9.html">Super9</a> to ride today. <br />
<br />
It was wheeled out from the garage and gassed up. I have to make my own premix of one part <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ4FGMQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00DJ4FGMQ&linkCode=as2&tag=everyridin-20&linkId=L64USKGJ7YTES5MJ">oil</a> and 32 parts gasoline for it’s two-stroke engine. When I pressed the started button, it just turned over and over and over. It didn’t start. Much too soon, the battery was worn down from trying and the headlight wouldn’t light up. Darn. I put it back on the charger from which it came. I will have to investigate the charger.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2001-suzuki-sv650.html">SV650</a> to the rescue. It was a short 25 minute ride around the area. We visited a few lakes to see them free of ice.<br />
<br />
It is supposed to get cold and snowy again in a couple days, so this may be our last two-wheeled ride of the year. <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. I’ve been going to work as the sun comes up and returning in the dark. Not fun. </p> <p>Finally, the weekend has come! I slept in and awoke to the sun shining brightly. It was a nice lazy morning. While enjoying some blueberry pancakes and sipping a strong glass of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EQ5PWW?ie=UTF8&tag=everyridin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001EQ5PWW">chai</a>, I saw a <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> ride by! I was surprised. I haven’t seen one on the road in weeks. Stepping outside felt like stepping into Spring. Even though it was only 40F, it felt much warmer. The sun had melted the ice and snow on the roads. My bikes were calling my name. </p> <p>With my gear on, I stood in the garage looking over the <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/" target="_blank">motorcycles</a> trying to decide which one to take. I pondered taking the <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2005-kymco-super-9.html">Super9</a> or the <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2001-suzuki-sv650.html">SV650</a>. I didn’t have to think long. As you can tell from the photo, the SV650 won out. I pulled it out of storage and it roared to life on the first press of the starter button. It was a lovely sound that brought a smile to my face. </p> <p>It felt great to be back on the Suzuki. The growl of the vtwin and the punch of torque at the slightest movement of my right wrist. I rode all around my neighborhood checking out the road conditions and getting reacquainted with my favorite bike. It has been too long. </p> <p>I rode for about thirty minutes before I started to feel the cold. It’s been a couple hours now, and I am still smiling. I really love that motorcycle. I hope to be able to ride it again soon, but first I need to get on a plane to Iceland. Ride safe.  </p> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. After a quick breakfast of some awesome “mountain bars” I had made before the trip, we were off into the woods. </p> <p><img title="x500--1" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--1" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K2ysgDAAfZw/VfcPgAFW3XI/AAAAAAAANxQ/J0IYdHNt92c/x500--1%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="456" /></p> <p>The lake and park were a short 15 minutes ride. The Black River scenic byway is a quiet wooded road with great views of trees. There are numerous parking lots along the way with hiking trails leading off in all directions. The waterfalls are all clearly marked. Some are easier to get to than others. </p> <p><img title="x500--3" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--3" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9PqWNNFphsM/VfcPghESh0I/AAAAAAAANxY/VK6-nSpQl0o/x500--3%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="281" height="500" /></p> <p>We rode to Lake Superior at the end of the road first. After crossing the bridge above over the black river, we were on the beach (above).</p> <p><img title="x500--6" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--6" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hXx46RecXeI/VfcPjL3NL5I/AAAAAAAANxg/a1gwjNelBTA/x500--6%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>The first waterfall we visited was Rainbow Falls. From the photos on the Internet, it looked great. The view from this trail wasn’t the best. After walking 1/2 mile and walking down what felt like 500 stairs, we arrived at the view below. </p> <p><img title="x500--8" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--8" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9Fnvxfu7RXQ/VfcPjg9JZ-I/AAAAAAAANxo/-mEtlfjMX60/x500--8%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>It was still impressive, but it was hard to see the full view of the falls since we were at the top. Hiking around to the other side would have been nicer. The shot below is the view further down the river towards Superior. After a rest, we hiked back up the huge amount of stairs. </p> <p><img title="x500--7" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--7" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B69hIBdbY8Q/VfcPkBAt9MI/AAAAAAAANxw/jP7oN5C9cIY/x500--7%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Gratuitous <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> shot. It was awesome how green and peaceful it was in the forest. It had rained hard the night before, so all of the falls were full strength and there was a cool humidity in the air. The air felt very fresh and clean. </p> <p><img title="x500--2" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--2" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n3E04dZUvyo/VfcPktjHsbI/AAAAAAAANx4/2QLcgxnGvEI/x500--2%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>A short ride and hike later, it was time for another waterfall which meant more stairs. Thanks to <a href="http://www.onegirltwocities.com">Laura</a> for this shot of me walking down stairs. lol. My motorcycle boots made for good hiking boots. </p> <p><img title="IMG_20150908_075616" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_20150908_075616" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f1UnIIuVLVU/VfcPlMtIj1I/AAAAAAAANyA/vDB4IjcAsAE/IMG_20150908_075616%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>The next set of falls were much more open. Not nearly as tall as Rainbow. </p> <p><img title="x500--10" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--10" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_HHuXhCLHtQ/VfcPlmaz0yI/AAAAAAAANyI/sLl0IZ_-cpE/x500--10%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>A shot of Laura to get a sense of scale of the place. We had it mostly to ourselves. We only saw two other couples the whole time we were exploring the different waterfalls. </p> <p><img title="x500--12" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--12" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GTZxTMyQLSo/VfcPmQhbXvI/AAAAAAAANyQ/nIUS6QWXC-s/x500--12%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I think this one was called Sandstone falls. </p> <p><img title="x500--13" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--13" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Nik77zehOsY/VfcPnSdud2I/AAAAAAAANyU/TpSXQsyhCoY/x500--13%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Another mini-falls further up along another trail. This one didn’t seem to have a name. </p> <p><img title="x500--17" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--17" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N-gnmBNs1NQ/VfcPnpvZjPI/AAAAAAAANyg/IdRfuvMe690/x500--17%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>The trails were great. Other than the massive amount of stairs, it was easy to walk around and check out the waterfalls. </p> <p><img title="x500--19" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--19" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-q34zMTtfIm8/VfcPqmirt4I/AAAAAAAANyo/IjGjcGP5mh0/x500--19%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I really liked this stump for some reason. I still can’t explain it, but it just looked nice. </p> <p><img title="x500--16" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--16" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2h7towZKEUo/VfcPrW2ITrI/AAAAAAAANyw/h-X21qzoOkM/x500--16%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>The last waterfall we visited was Potawatomi falls which was the easiest to get to with only ten stairs! By this time my legs felt like jelly at the thought of more stairs. The view was totally worth it. We met a couple at this lookout point who said they were here the day before and the falls were only half full. The rain last night made a huge difference. We picked the right day! </p> <p><img title="x500--23" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--23" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L35m0Q5eRLw/VfcPryf01_I/AAAAAAAANy0/rtG3G86dva4/x500--23%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Much too early, it was time to start heading back home. We stopped several times along the way to pick up some treasures from the trip. We bought some local crabapple jelly and some plum jam. Both were delicious. The walnut <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ4FGMQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00DJ4FGMQ&linkCode=as2&tag=everyridin-20&linkId=L64USKGJ7YTES5MJ">oil</a> is for a roasted carrot recipe I’m playing with. The flat stones came from the beach on Lake Superior. I hope to use them in my mason jar fermentation projects to hold the veggies below the brine. I haven’t been able to find such rocks near my house easily. Two of the four were perfectly sized. The other two don’t quite fit into the jars. </p> <p><img title="x500--25" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--25" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FcnY4p0YZpk/VfcPsTcb-wI/AAAAAAAANzA/erOFnh5f6kM/x500--25%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="344" /></p> <p>It was a nice weekend away! We rode almost 550 miles over two days most of which was on small two lane roads in heavily wooded areas. It was relaxing. I am looking forward to our next adventure. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts:</strong></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/09/michigan-road-trip-day-12.html">Michigan Road Trip - Day 1/2</a></li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. One of the rack’s supports for the side bags cracked while I was in <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html" target="_blank">North Carolina last month</a>, so we couldn’t put anything in the side bags. No, I don’t know exactly when/why it broke, just that it was on that trip. I only had the sidebags half full on that trip, so I had room to stash my gear during stops. For those keeping track, this has to be the fifth time now it has cracked. Always in a different spot too. Maybe this is why they don’t make this rack anymore. </p> <p><img title="20150906_121731" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="20150906_121731" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-geM8bJAABk0/VfcHshJNsRI/AAAAAAAANv0/s8-fVwv111E/20150906_121731%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>We left early on Sunday morning as soon as the rain stopped and headed north on I-35 toward Duluth and the big lake. It was a quiet ride along the freeway. We took frequent stops to stretch and look at the trees. We stopped on top of one of the hills to snap the photo above before taking the scenic drive the rest of the way into Duluth. I couldn’t resist getting a photo of <a href="http://www.onegirltwocities.com">Laura</a> tweeting. </p> <p><img title="x500--3" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--3" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eizJ5sR7M6s/VfcHtP6vivI/AAAAAAAANv8/D0WEOhjTvQ0/x500--3%25255B10%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>We arrived in Duluth around lunch which we had at the local co-op. It was nice to relax and look at the lake while eating some good food. It was also starting to feel very warm. We headed East into Wisconsin on US-2 to skirt the bottom of Lake Superior. We had a brilliant view of the harbor as we crossed the very tall bridge. They pass ocean sized ships through there. We stuffed everything into a backpack, so no gopro on this trip to capture the view. </p> <p><img title="x500--5" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--5" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iGmahiLE_Ms/VfcHtw8bReI/AAAAAAAANwE/SRTZlmF2nXE/x500--5%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>While riding through northern Wisconsin, we passed through numerous small towns as the speed limit went bounced around. One of the small towns thermometers claimed it was 91F! So much for beating the heat! We eventually arrived in Ashland, WI. </p> <p><img title="x500--4" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--4" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-P37NQekrV38/VfcHudeUYXI/AAAAAAAANwI/vhmUSXbsPGU/x500--4%25255B10%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>We originally wanted to stay there. It is right on Lake Superior and very beautiful. The Internet didn’t show any affordable hotels. We were a bit dismayed to see many cheap motels with the vacancy signs brightly lit. Dang.  </p> <p><img title="x500--6" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--6" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y6dY630aUvk/VfcHukuZ0XI/AAAAAAAANwU/BSeQUdbmNM8/x500--6%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Ashland has claimed the “mural capital of Wisconsin” as it’s title. There are over a dozen very large murals on the sides of the buildings. All of the murals above came from Ashland. I enjoyed riding around looking for them. It was a fun scavenger hunt. The heat reduced the fun factor as we went. Time to keep riding. It wasn’t too hot to ride; it was too hot to stop. </p> <p><img title="x500--7" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--7" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hI_247Gz-Bw/VfcHvVU9YsI/AAAAAAAANwc/pbSbS7KcnRw/x500--7%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>We crossed over into Michigan. It has been a while since either of us had been there. We booked a hotel in Ironwood just across the border. Ironwood on the border of the Ottawa National Forest which looked like it was chock full of waterfalls and nice hiking trails. </p> <p><img title="x500--8" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--8" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lxfXSFSdSyA/VfcHvyJiZMI/AAAAAAAANwg/pgFfPewjYyc/x500--8%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Ironwood’s other claim to fame is this giant indian statue called “Hiawatha”. The sign claimed it was “The World’s Tallest Indian”. Made of all fiberglass it stands over 52 feet high and weigh 18,000lbs. It was constructed in 1964. It was massive as you can tell from our photo below. </p> <p><img title="x500--13" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--13" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T8Givy1I1Dw/VfcH6HhSpbI/AAAAAAAANws/yfYI7IAtNqA/x500--13%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="252" height="500" /></p> <p>After riding for almost 350 miles, we were happy to retreat to the hot tub of our hotel. We did manage to explore the town some more to find almost everything was closed for the holiday weekend. No worries, we brought our own food. The other thing that surprised me about Ironwood was how cheap the homes were. We spotted many “for sale” signs while walking around. The average price seemed to be $15k-30k! </p> <p>Stay tuned for the second half of the trip were we go chasing waterfalls in the National Forest. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts:</strong></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/09/michigan-road-trip-day-22.html">Michigan Road Trip - Day 2/2</a></li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. The crowds were a bit slow to arrive. I am going to blame the horrible state of traffic with all the road construction and the upcoming holiday weekend. </p> <p><img title="Motorcycle First Thursday September 2015" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Motorcycle First Thursday September 2015" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-foof0lutqi4/VfH75LpqkiI/AAAAAAAANss/_eVQbmSagQ8/x500-Motorcycle%252520First%252520Thursday%252520September%2525202015-8%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I still had fun looking at the <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/" target="_blank">motorcycles</a> and chatting with friends. </p> <p><img title="Motorcycle First Thursday September 2015" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Motorcycle First Thursday September 2015" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-12RdFppKyrI/VfH75srQzsI/AAAAAAAANs0/6eTQ2gGQhp4/x500-Motorcycle%252520First%252520Thursday%252520September%2525202015-9%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Totally. </p> <p><img title="Motorcycle First Thursday September 2015" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Motorcycle First Thursday September 2015" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f9ZfWW7dQIo/VfH763zsfLI/AAAAAAAANs8/JpLDnn3MJx0/x500-Motorcycle%252520First%252520Thursday%252520September%2525202015-10%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I think I might have featured the above before, I can’t remember. I wanted to enjoy a day of riding twisty roads while everyone else was at work. </p> <p><img title="x500--2" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--2" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kpYZNWHiY9Y/VeCihYMDdRI/AAAAAAAANkI/60wGlMhSZr8/x500--23.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>My plan worked. The roads were remarkably empty on a Monday morning. I left Dubuque and started riding north towards home. The rolling hills and windy roads were very enjoyable. The farms looked so picturesque. </p> <p><img title="x500--3" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--3" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ZoudFYUvZaE/VeCihn59d-I/AAAAAAAANkQ/wFkCg_lt-Tg/x500--33.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I loosely followed the <a href="http://www.experiencemississippiriver.com/">Great River Road</a> through the driftless area. This area was supposedly not touched by glaciers and as such is more rugged with steep cliffs, bluffs, deep valleys. All of which mean twisty fun <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> roads.</p> <p><img title="x500--4" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--4" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5lqV4dK9-ec/VeCiiFQ-QwI/AAAAAAAANkY/NMgQCf4dXLE/x500--43.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Then great views like this jump out at you. A shot of the Mississippi River looking north. </p> <p><img title="x500--5" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--5" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ABPUb3iZzN8/VeCiifL1O3I/AAAAAAAANkg/e3a8meGwXd4/x500--53.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Looking over at the Wisconsin side</p> <p><img title="x500--7" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--7" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d8qlG_jXMzM/VeCii7afuQI/AAAAAAAANko/dc1gKU8kUpA/x500--73.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Getting closer to the MN border. A nice bridge over to WI and a river boat. </p> <p><img title="x500--8" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--8" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0GSVRBFuMrA/VeCijGqspkI/AAAAAAAANkw/m6XzucAcIDM/x500--83.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /><img title="x500--9" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--9" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vFteOBe3Yjs/VeCijkQP6EI/AAAAAAAANk4/0nADdfH4loA/x500--93.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Many of the roads in this area have neat names like CY9 and X56 (two of my faves). The beginning was nice, but by the end it was large marbles. Not fun. The scenery made it worth while winding through a wooded valley to the farms on top of the bluffs and back down the other side. </p> <p><img title="x500--11" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--11" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yqBsfzaIHmY/VeCikbiTmaI/AAAAAAAANlI/guAom8PNswg/x500--113.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Hello Minnesota! It was nice to get off the bike and relax for a bit before taking the final 50 miles back into the metro area and heavy traffic. My last day of riding was just over 300 miles most of which were on beautiful, empty, two-lane roads. </p> <p><img title="x500--25" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--25" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-333fJBG1jYI/VeCimxZG63I/AAAAAAAANl8/arOvNU5f76I/x500--253.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I really enjoyed my short 2800 mile motorcycle adventure to pick off my 49th state and watch some amazing riders at <a href="http://www.motogp.com/">MotoGP</a>. Now that I am home, I am eager to go on another trip!</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts</strong>: </p> <ul> <li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFdI1XF5FcAs8bC0z8PnLkb9OI0wZw5d6">YouTube Playlist: Road Trip 2015</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-10iowa-minnesota-and-home.html">Road Trip Day #10–Iowa, Minnesota, and Home</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-9indianapolis-motogp.html">Road Trip Day #9–Indianapolis MotoGP</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-22-motorcycles-on.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 2/2 Motorcycles on Meridian</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-12-indygp-and.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 1/2 IndyGP and Motorcycle Motorcycle Midway</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-7indianapolis.html">Road Trip Day #7–Indianapolis</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-6more-mountains.html">Road Trip Day #6–More Mountains!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html">Road Trip Day #5–Mountains FTW!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-4memphis-to-chattanooga.html">Road Trip Day #4–Memphis to Chattanooga</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-3memphis-tn.html">Road Trip Day #3–Memphis, TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-2mo-to-tn.html">Road Trip Day #2–MO to TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-1mn-to-mo.html">Road Trip Day #1–MN to MO</a> </li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. I arrived early to get a good parking spot and to watch the warm up sessions. </p> <p><img title="x500--1" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--1" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--3aEHfBMEu8/VdtiPJ2pHKI/AAAAAAAANiw/-PB9eoeWVJk/x500--1%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Again, thanks to my very generous friend William, I had a great parking spot next to the museum which made my escape after the races much easier. </p> <p><img title="x500--2" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--2" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tWWlUZQV-XE/VdtiPtfBN7I/AAAAAAAANi4/1MAWEfkSVPA/x500--23.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I enjoyed watching the warm up near the back straight. One of my favorite parts is after the session ends, the riders stop and practice their starts. It is a great chance to see them a bit closer up in race form. Above is from <a href="http://www.motogp.com/">MotoGP</a>. </p> <p><img title="x500--4" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--4" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eWzYUBBfOpY/VdtiQDP3ugI/AAAAAAAANi8/pVG4I0XkzDs/x500--43.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Fortunately, this helicopter wasn’t needed during the races. The TV chopper was constantly flying around during the races capturing all the action. </p> <p><img title="x500--8" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--8" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FOgY6xCWG2E/VdtiQqsNkiI/AAAAAAAANjI/yG9oT7biKuk/x500--8%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>The seat I had overlooks turns 1-4 and parts of 5. I really enjoyed watching the action. The higher altitude afforded a nice cool breeze. </p> <p><img title="x500--6" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--6" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fCzc1opPq9o/VdtiRGs4hlI/AAAAAAAANjM/aSIBbsnNDgc/x500--63.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="277" /></p> <p>There was some good action at these corners as well during the races. Several passes took place and way too many crashes. All of the crashers I saw were able to stand up and walk away to the cheers of the crowd. </p> <p><img title="x500--9" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--9" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XgwBHVc9AEU/VdtiRsi0U4I/AAAAAAAANjY/Ou7yPFFWhMM/x500--9%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="295" /></p> <p>The Moto2 race was the best of the three (Moto3,Moto2, and MotoGP). There was lots of passing and several people swapped for 1st place during the race. The threat of rain made Moto3 interesting. It sprinkled a little just enough to make it interesting for the racers. </p> <p><img title="x500--10" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--10" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NcGgkYlLWyg/VdtiSHXt1EI/AAAAAAAANjg/R-EG7CkrPzs/x500--103.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="252" /></p> <p>I was comfy in my rain gear, so I didn’t mind. I also enjoyed chatting with the guy sitting next to me. He travels a lot, and this was his first race at Indy. We had a fun and good natured time as we cheered for rival riders. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the speedway. I hope to be able to go back again next year. </p> <p>As soon as the MotoGP race concluded, I ran back to my <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> to escape Indianapolis and start riding back towards Minnesota. Having been here a few times now, I was much better prepared to navigate without my GPS since the police were directing traffic. </p> <p>The rest of the ride back was rather uneventful on I-74. I made it to Dubuque, Iowa after a 300+ mile ride. The hotel had a hot tub which I made very good use of. Exhausted, I went to bed early with the intention of getting up early to enjoy riding the twisty roads of IA and MN on the way home. They didn’t disappoint. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts</strong>: </p> <ul> <li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFdI1XF5FcAs8bC0z8PnLkb9OI0wZw5d6">YouTube Playlist: Road Trip 2015</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-10iowa-minnesota-and-home.html">Road Trip Day #10–Iowa, Minnesota, and Home</a>  </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-9indianapolis-motogp.html">Road Trip Day #9–Indianapolis MotoGP</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-22-motorcycles-on.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 2/2 Motorcycles on Meridian</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-12-indygp-and.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 1/2 IndyGP and Motorcycle Motorcycle Midway</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-7indianapolis.html">Road Trip Day #7–Indianapolis</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-6more-mountains.html">Road Trip Day #6–More Mountains!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html">Road Trip Day #5–Mountains FTW!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-4memphis-to-chattanooga.html">Road Trip Day #4–Memphis to Chattanooga</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-3memphis-tn.html">Road Trip Day #3–Memphis, TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-2mo-to-tn.html">Road Trip Day #2–MO to TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-1mn-to-mo.html">Road Trip Day #1–MN to MO</a> </li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. There were even more motorcycles than on Friday. It was fun!</p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BUatx7wg0Hk/VdPlBzyEwUI/AAAAAAAANfM/n1B14gotWoU/x500-Indy-GP-423.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="292" /></p> <p>All varieties of motorcycles from stretched out sport bikes to giant trikes were present all celebrating motorcycling together. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I-IO3kXOm9A/VdPlCdNhwFI/AAAAAAAANfU/OzndQY0I7uw/x500-Indy-GP-443.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="238" /></p> <p>This trike was very unusual. The coffin was functional…</p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0yNMAhgBIBQ/VdPlC26IsQI/AAAAAAAANfc/tEZDfzUXtDg/x500-Indy-GP-453.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Some of the paint jobs were just so detailed. I really enjoyed the people and bike watching. I didn’t stay as late as on Friday. I was tired, and I really wanted to get to the races early to watch some of the practice. A full and fantastic day of motorcycling. Stay tuned for the next post for a day #9 recap: racing and beginning to ride home. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts</strong>: </p> <ul> <li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFdI1XF5FcAs8bC0z8PnLkb9OI0wZw5d6">YouTube Playlist: Road Trip 2015</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-10iowa-minnesota-and-home.html">Road Trip Day #10–Iowa, Minnesota, and Home</a>  </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-9indianapolis-motogp.html">Road Trip Day #9–Indianapolis MotoGP</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-22-motorcycles-on.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 2/2 Motorcycles on Meridian</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-12-indygp-and.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 1/2 IndyGP and Motorcycle Motorcycle Midway</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-7indianapolis.html">Road Trip Day #7–Indianapolis</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-6more-mountains.html">Road Trip Day #6–More Mountains!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html">Road Trip Day #5–Mountains FTW!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-4memphis-to-chattanooga.html">Road Trip Day #4–Memphis to Chattanooga</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-3memphis-tn.html">Road Trip Day #3–Memphis, TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-2mo-to-tn.html">Road Trip Day #2–MO to TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-1mn-to-mo.html">Road Trip Day #1–MN to MO</a> </li> </ul> <ul></ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. Entirely too early given how late I was out the night before downtown with all the crowds. I crossed this bridge on Friday; it was too busy to stop then. Not so on Saturday morning. It just seemed like an interesting park. Need more time to explore. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WW16jsEWWDo/Vc9OwV5k5XI/AAAAAAAANb8/TiyRtYw-s5s/x500-Indy-GP-83.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I started the day by visiting the Suzuki photographer. <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2013/09/indianapolis-motogp-2013-and-ride-home.html" target="_blank">I did this in 2013 as well.</a> He seemed to remember me, so we had a nice time chatting while he took some nice pictures of my <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2009/09/2001-suzuki-sv650.html">SV650</a>. </p> <p><img title="S650 Portrait" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="S650 Portrait" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wr6AeX4FPzk/Vc9Owj63PiI/AAAAAAAANcI/QCYBL657W78/x500-S650-Portrait-26.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="333" /><img title="S650 Portrait" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="S650 Portrait" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lNWcy3FMGmI/Vc9OxCNfxRI/AAAAAAAANcM/8sFnDHpECXw/x500-S650-Portrait-16.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="333" /></p> <p>Then it was time to park in the Suzuki owner’s parking space conveniently located within the <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> midway. Thanks Suzuki!</p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dcAFySjLSPk/Vc9OxgzAP9I/AAAAAAAANcY/NWoT0g_o_pQ/x500-Indy-GP-103.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Again, this year, I had very nice tickets thanks to William. I decided to spend Saturday getting in some different viewing angles. I noticed the stands at the beginning of the front straight were open and had a nice view of the last few corners. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lWInIXuEhA4/Vc9OyMk4g-I/AAAAAAAANcc/zaW0Q9j6zrw/x500-Indy%252520GP-11%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>It was nice to see some different angles than I am used to. Even after several years of coming here, I still don’t feel like I’ve seen the action from all angles. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-05Ef226w4GQ/Vc9Oym8uLlI/AAAAAAAANck/HKf9kMMg1sw/x500-Indy-GP-53.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>A view of the motorcycle midway from the stands</p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Mj1lfxiGM4A/Vc9OyyEHb4I/AAAAAAAANcs/OL5785FkL2o/x500-Indy-GP-63.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="129" /></p> <p>Looking down the front straight. An amazing feeling when the <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/" target="_blank">motorcycles</a> go by at wide open throttle.</p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bzVTqLLlGbo/Vc9OzE8sbHI/AAAAAAAANc0/6lWV98o6UZ4/x500-Indy%252520GP-9%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>In addition to the sights and noise, you can feel them go by. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8jKUegup8y8/Vc9OzlkBJPI/AAAAAAAANc8/LRc9sxzp50A/x500-Indy-GP-127.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I went back to my bike to get some more snacks as I made my way over to the stunt shows. I found this cool vstrom parked next to me. The bike looked like it could have ridden all the way from Alaska. A quick check of the plates… Indiana. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xcXVLertsxI/Vc9O0PUq0iI/AAAAAAAANdE/QSQ7XAcj7Ic/x500-Indy-GP-137.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>The Ducati owner’s parking area was finally filling up. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WHPKzZhiGzs/Vc9O0lMnKKI/AAAAAAAANdM/5uRdDh3PCPs/x500-Indy-GP-297.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>The stunt show started with Terry Adams the best BMX rider in the world. His stunts were… just wow. He was literally dancing with the bicycle. I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves. He was really impressive. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tdNSx3f0JMk/Vc9O00ubflI/AAAAAAAANdU/FWSGydl5r1U/x500-Indy-GP-192.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="341" /></p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hDuZyUip54s/Vc9O1uET4EI/AAAAAAAANdg/BCFrDTrgIHw/x500-Indy-GP-202.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="365" /></p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_HsJNeNw75Y/Vc9O2E17k8I/AAAAAAAANdk/a6cp2tFTwuk/x500-Indy-GP-212.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="383" /></p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eZVGP4ezyAk/Vc9O2R00oEI/AAAAAAAANds/FqfB0hrmREk/x500-Indy-GP-222.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="366" /></p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jpWoURwq7nM/Vc9O2_Kbi9I/AAAAAAAANd4/HBtm806NMXs/x500-Indy-GP-232.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="374" /></p> <p>Of course the entire time he’s doing his stunts, there was Moto2 practice behind us. Awesome noises of the bikes flying onto the back straight. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2960IhRGnhs/Vc9O3fOlk_I/AAAAAAAANd8/Y3kBhqhZyQw/x500-Indy-GP-157.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Then Aaron Colton came out. An amazing motorcycle stunt rider from Minnesota! </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JvlwJPyk2Iw/Vc9O39HQqwI/AAAAAAAANeI/2O6LYAgFvdo/x500-Indy-GP-177.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="367" /></p> <p>I’ve been fortunate enough to watch his shows for many years now in MN. He’s very talented. My favorite stunt of his is when he puts the bike into a wheelie and then spins it around on the back tire while standing on the rear seat no hands. I didn’t get a photo of that stunt this time. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HpkR3EYWONI/Vc9O4YUuB2I/AAAAAAAANeM/t8wJLjldgro/x500-Indy-GP-187.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="407" /></p> <p>Gotta love the burnouts!</p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UwTqnhMpXuE/Vc9O4kbondI/AAAAAAAANeY/vnJDGfo8CLA/x500-Indy-GP-247.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="283" /></p> <p>Both riders were very nice. I was able to get a few minutes to chat with them after the show. They were both generous and signed an autograph. Cool! </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rT_hNDZs-nA/Vc9O5Yzsk8I/AAAAAAAANeg/PbMs6IxI5R8/x500-Indy-GP-277.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>After the stunt show, it was time for my demo ride. Yup, Suzuki was giving rides of their bikes lead by some <a href="http://www.msf-usa.org">MSF</a> ridercoaches through the streets of Indianapolis. I chose a 2015 vstrom 650 ABS. I had the choice between white and black. The white looked a tough nicer. </p> <p><img title="Indy GP" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indy GP" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tJX_tctJ7Co/Vc9O5hFCmWI/AAAAAAAANek/rwlShIr2xsY/x500-Indy-GP-287.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I really enjoyed riding it. I want it. A bit later than I wanted since I spent a fair amount of time in Cincinnati eating lots of <a href="http://everydaytastiness.com">tasty</a> food. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YC32oHMoEds/VctL0kU0_1I/AAAAAAAANXQ/SiJ9uKZZczk/x500-Indianapolis-1%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="269" /></p> <p>I arrived in time to catch one of the last practices of Moto3. A few blocks before I arrived, I could hear the bikes at the track. The sound of those 250cc engines screaming down the straights. It is a good noise. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uPEZS4zSyPg/VctL1HI7eNI/AAAAAAAANXY/wnC7y28FoeA/x500-Indianapolis-2%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="268" /></p> <p>I quickly parked and took off my gear to get near the track to watch them carve the corners. They are impressive to watch. I wish I was half as talented as they are. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x2whQFN5SCE/VctL1diUJLI/AAAAAAAANXg/yZ8RQux5GvE/x500-Indianapolis-9%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uKfN1-eP12Q/VctL1nok1ZI/AAAAAAAANXo/HL-ZqfcjWTs/x500-Indianapolis-3%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="458" /></p> <p>These guys have a great job. Watch the action and then ride <a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/" target="_blank">motorcycles</a> around in the forbidden areas. They also get to give rides to riders back to the pits if they fall off. Fun. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_lpi78FmRjE/VctL2A4pt9I/AAAAAAAANXw/qBFqxC13BKU/x500-Indianapolis-4%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Lots of <a href="http://everydayriding.org">motorcycle</a> vendors were at the show this year. Kawasaki had a small tent away from all the rest. It was kind of sad in comparison to Suzuki or Honda. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I3IyuF_NarY/VctL2TPWc4I/AAAAAAAANX4/MeJjoxvFAhI/x500-Indianapolis-6%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Aprillia, <a href="http://www.ktm.com/us.html">KTM</a>, and Moto Guzzi were new this year. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g61F5NNGtQQ/VctL23Rl3MI/AAAAAAAANYE/h2XRy574Q5o/x500-Indianapolis-8%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Ducati had a large presence as usual, but further in the back. They changed the layout to make room for the AMA racers in town.</p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IoK-W9P_Oos/VctL3TH16dI/AAAAAAAANYI/9jZH2swUfKM/x500-Indianapolis-7%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Yamaha had the kids try a bike setup. Its fun watching them try to go around the hay bales. Occasionally, they lose control and smack into one. Then get right back up and go again. Oh to be young and invincible again. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LEWopP7zbNk/VctL3v2cFwI/AAAAAAAANYQ/npS5m-pYWpM/x500-Indianapolis-5%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Also new this year, was an adult “try a motorcycle” session. They had gear and small dual sports. The area was staffed by <a href="http://www.msf-usa.org">MSF</a> instructors. This would have also been a fun job. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g2K42-MMFI4/VctL4FU762I/AAAAAAAANYY/3AXfoQi1mt0/x500-Indianapolis-10%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="267" /></p> <p>More practice sessions running. This time it was AMA Superstock? The American racing series not really comparable to <a href="http://www.motogp.com/">MotoGP</a>. They were fun to watch, but slower. I wish the USA was more competitive. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4RCqyepy1ik/VctL4aopAXI/AAAAAAAANYg/maEpbeKvzVY/x500-Indianapolis-11%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I hit up the Suzuki area and got some Suzuki owner’s swag. They also gave me a wrist pass to park in the middle of the motorcycle midway. Such a sweet perk and a very nice parking location. I used it on Saturday, but the Museum is a much better spot on race day. Thanks William!</p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8ckvyA7107s/VctL49B1hiI/AAAAAAAANYo/UUEw80E_Pr8/x500-Indianapolis-14%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="281" height="500" /></p> <p>I checked into my hotel and then headed downtown. This is my fourth year watching MotoGP in Indianapolis, and I have never been downtown. I thought it would be boring. We have an amazing monthly motorcycle gathering in Minneapolis called “First Thursday”. Wow. This was so, so much more. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2y5kFP0B16k/VctL5FcuaYI/AAAAAAAANYw/RN3_SNyJ3aM/x500-Indianapolis-15%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Tons of motorcycles of all kinds lined the streets. The police shut down a ten block stretch of Meridian and then around the monument circle. Many of the side streets were also closed to only motorcycles. There were thousands and thousands of people and bikes. It was awesome. Seriously. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vrstelWXNxU/VctL5iwunuI/AAAAAAAANY4/l4hgmZO_JNU/x500-Indianapolis-17%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Lots of cool bikes to look at. I really wanted to hear what the bike below sounded like… a 15” sub for a top case? 6x9s for side cases? A rolling concert. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v2pSYwnuzec/VctL6JdtPxI/AAAAAAAANZA/4bnkM_GmT7I/x500-Indianapolis-18%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Motorcycles of all kinds continued in a non-stop stream from 7pm-midnight. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6iey3Q0MI7I/VctL6XbF0PI/AAAAAAAANZI/HRaJPowZVCA/x500-Indianapolis-19%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Stretched sport bikes. </p> <p><img title="Indianapolis" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="Indianapolis" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vt5GbRbbjXI/VctL69PCUhI/AAAAAAAANZQ/LOYlWE4h4yw/x500-Indianapolis-20%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Goldwing with a trailer. My 49th State wasn’t as “fun” as I had hoped. The mountains of North Carolina were calling me back. It had rained over night with an impressive thunderstorm. My bike was cleaner afterwards. hah! </p> <p><img title="x500--2" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--2" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tCexlENE3Dk/VcQGnWtpcdI/AAAAAAAANU0/L3DdDc1AbeM/x500--23.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>I took US25 towards Asheville. I found a coffee shop I wanted to visit there. It turned out to be as good as I hoped, and they even had decent wifi. The chai was good. I might have spent too much time reading my book because when I went outside it just started to rain. I hopped on I40 and headed west. </p> <p><img title="x500--9" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--9" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hjXuyI2jTKo/VcQGn46UFGI/AAAAAAAANU4/4-V5KvLDI1o/x500--9%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>After entering a tunnel, the rain was gone. My roadcrafter kept me dry, and I was very grateful to have it. I didn’t have to bring extra rain gear, and I didn’t have to stop to put it on like some of the other riders I saw cowering under bridges. </p> <p><img title="x500--12" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--12" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9QEDQzllLDA/VcQGobRXx-I/AAAAAAAANVE/0Hm1NV6vs-8/x500--12%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>While watching the GPS, I saw some curving looking roads, so I exited to check them out. It turned out to be the foothills parkway which was fun. </p> <p><img title="x500--7" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--7" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-38DGZo7EU9U/VcQGo3zJQdI/AAAAAAAANVI/EWdcWdj3N88/x500--73.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>And it was sunny! It didn’t seem like it had rained here at all. </p> <p><img title="x500--8" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--8" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oMYnN7J3H9Y/VcQGpQbUwdI/AAAAAAAANVU/mGEK94N9hkU/x500--83.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>I enjoyed the curvy mountain roads and of course the overlooks. </p> <p><img title="x500--11" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--11" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CipKpx5HHXk/VcQGpm_IIAI/AAAAAAAANVY/P9zkmmQtGsM/x500--113.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>obligatory bike photo</p> <p><img title="x500--14" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--14" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oBBdHcDkGps/VcQGqAiSDMI/AAAAAAAANVg/jxcDJWtQjNI/x500--143.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Love the blue color of the mountains in the fog and rain. </p> <p><img title="x500--15" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--15" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-av29U6KFK2U/VcQGqh7GGxI/AAAAAAAANVs/DPKNoPgwczc/x500--153.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p><img title="x500--16" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--16" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oLLOgyZSZwQ/VcQGq5XrA5I/AAAAAAAANV0/KTBA4ArJ9Lk/x500--163.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>Eventually, I had to say goodbye to North Carolina and cross back into Tennessee on the beginning of my journey back north. I am going to miss NC. I need to go back more often. </p> <p><img title="x500--10" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--10" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rKxnEvJ2h64/VcQGrp7F0BI/AAAAAAAANV8/k2fkp0G8WMU/x500--10%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="333" /></p> <p>I stopped for lunch at a nice café in the middle of really no where. The owner was very friendly and we sat and talked for quite a while. With a full belly, it was time to find my hotel.</p> <p><img title="x500--17" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--17" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pcBpTKlLRp0/VcQGsDc3jhI/AAAAAAAANWE/Aq_6k0ngvr4/x500--173.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p> </p> <p><img title="x500--18" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--18" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FVOjWesWjz0/VcQGspGqqNI/AAAAAAAANWI/tCHpvbWh5bI/x500--183.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>and that meant crossing into Kentucky. I booked a room in a town called London. I was hoping to see some giant red double decker busses. Nope. They do have a funny accent though! hah. </p> <p><img title="x500--19" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--19" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kIQG9VsRvbQ/VcQGs58ZBbI/AAAAAAAANWU/Nu8DNJ8W32I/x500--193.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="354" /></p> <p>Is this camera recording still? Yup? ok. </p> <p><img title="x500--1" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--1" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-28gazs3_4C8/VcQGtoW66_I/AAAAAAAANWc/3u73WLBK0Ks/x500--13.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="375" /></p> <p>The hotel had a cool charging station with two USB and three outlets. I made it my mission to see if I could use them all. I did. #ChargeAllTheThings. (GoPro, Camera, Kindle, BatteryPack, Phone)</p> <p><img title="x500--20" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="x500--20" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H-K-s_ag40A/VcQGt1B67XI/AAAAAAAANWk/pgvR8vEiSfI/x500--20%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="281" /></p> <p>I had a great day of riding today. The rain was very mild and didn’t spoil it in any way. At one point, it was cool enough, I actually was able to put on a long sleeve shirt. Nice. I really enjoyed riding in and looking at the mountains in this area. At times it felt like a mildly religious moment. Lots of joy and satisfaction. </p> <p>A short day with just less than 300 miles. I finished up the day with some relaxing and devouring the treats I had collected along the way. </p> <p>Tomorrow I make my way north to Indianapolis to start enjoying the <a href="http://www.motogp.com/">MotoGP</a> festivities. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts</strong>: </p> <ul> <li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFdI1XF5FcAs8bC0z8PnLkb9OI0wZw5d6">YouTube Playlist: Road Trip 2015</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-10iowa-minnesota-and-home.html">Road Trip Day #10–Iowa, Minnesota, and Home</a>  </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-9indianapolis-motogp.html">Road Trip Day #9–Indianapolis MotoGP</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-22-motorcycles-on.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 2/2 Motorcycles on Meridian</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-12-indygp-and.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 1/2 IndyGP and Motorcycle Motorcycle Midway</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-7indianapolis.html">Road Trip Day #7–Indianapolis</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-6more-mountains.html">Road Trip Day #6–More Mountains!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html">Road Trip Day #5–Mountains FTW!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-4memphis-to-chattanooga.html">Road Trip Day #4–Memphis to Chattanooga</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-3memphis-tn.html">Road Trip Day #3–Memphis, TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-2mo-to-tn.html">Road Trip Day #2–MO to TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-1mn-to-mo.html">Road Trip Day #1–MN to MO</a> </li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. It was over 9 hours and 300 miles of twisty roads looking like the above. Most of the time I was completely alone. It was great. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Related Posts</strong>: </p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2010/08/great-river-ride-day-13-cherohala.html">Great River Ride – Day 13 – Cherohala Dragons</a> </li> <li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFdI1XF5FcAs8bC0z8PnLkb9OI0wZw5d6">YouTube Playlist: Road Trip 2015</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-10iowa-minnesota-and-home.html">Road Trip Day #10–Iowa, Minnesota, and Home</a>  </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-9indianapolis-motogp.html">Road Trip Day #9–Indianapolis MotoGP</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-22-motorcycles-on.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 2/2 Motorcycles on Meridian</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-12-indygp-and.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 1/2 IndyGP and Motorcycle Motorcycle Midway</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-7indianapolis.html">Road Trip Day #7–Indianapolis</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-6more-mountains.html">Road Trip Day #6–More Mountains!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html">Road Trip Day #5–Mountains FTW!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-4memphis-to-chattanooga.html">Road Trip Day #4–Memphis to Chattanooga</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-3memphis-tn.html">Road Trip Day #3–Memphis, TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-2mo-to-tn.html">Road Trip Day #2–MO to TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-1mn-to-mo.html">Road Trip Day #1–MN to MO</a> </li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding. I left Memphis early in the morning to try and beat the heat. Fortunately, I was leaving the city because the traffic was intense as was the mounting heat. I crossed into Mississippi pretty quickly along US-72. </p> <p><img title="105f hot" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="105f hot" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KwjJrZN5GYM/VcFu3ZRCHYI/AAAAAAAANR4/oF1Q3wb6NHM/x500-105f%252520hot-3%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="500" height="346" /></p> <p>It quickly became very hot. I took a picture of one of the roadside thermometers. If accurate, it is my new record knocking out 103F in Mississippi. A few other signs also showed 100F+, so I feel like it might be. I stopped a lot again. It was a tough ride. </p> <p><img title="US Space and Rocket Museum" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="US Space and Rocket Museum" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gz2ez3prdgs/VcFu32w9tcI/AAAAAAAANSA/dwOPYnFgMsY/x500-US%252520Space%252520and%252520Rocket%252520Museum-50%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="281" height="500" /></p> <p>When passing through Huntsville, AL, I saw the US Space and Rocket Museum along I-565. I was sad to move back into the oven also known as outside. </p> <p>It was a short ride the rest of the way to Chattanooga. I am hoping the mountains tomorrow will lead to cooler temps. </p> <p>A decent 300 mile day covering TN, MS, AL, GA, and back to TN. Tomorrow, I hope to bag that pesky 49th state: SC. </p> <p><strong>Related Posts</strong>: </p> <ul> <li><a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFdI1XF5FcAs8bC0z8PnLkb9OI0wZw5d6">YouTube Playlist: Road Trip 2015</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-10iowa-minnesota-and-home.html">Road Trip Day #10–Iowa, Minnesota, and Home</a>  </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-9indianapolis-motogp.html">Road Trip Day #9–Indianapolis MotoGP</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-22-motorcycles-on.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 2/2 Motorcycles on Meridian</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-8-part-12-indygp-and.html">Road Trip Day #8– Part 1/2 IndyGP and Motorcycle Motorcycle Midway</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-7indianapolis.html">Road Trip Day #7–Indianapolis</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-6more-mountains.html">Road Trip Day #6–More Mountains!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-5mountains-ftw.html">Road Trip Day #5–Mountains FTW!</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-4memphis-to-chattanooga.html">Road Trip Day #4–Memphis to Chattanooga</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-3memphis-tn.html">Road Trip Day #3–Memphis, TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-2mo-to-tn.html">Road Trip Day #2–MO to TN</a> </li> <li><a href="http://www.everydayriding.org/2015/08/road-trip-day-1mn-to-mo.html">Road Trip Day #1–MN to MO</a> </li> </ul> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Written by Chrisluhman for Everyday Riding.
