Ozri 2011, the Asia-Pacific’s leading spatial industry conference, was held from 12-14 October in Melbourne, Australia- and drew its biggest crowd in its 25 year history.

Everyone is Happy was commissioned by Haycom AV to produce this high resolution 3240×1080 video and other event assets, which they projected onto three massive 15 metre x 5 metre screens using six-edge blended Christie projectors.

The brief was to ‘chart the progression of maps throughout the ages whilst referencing the event and it’s unique direction.’

The Edge, Queensland’s digital culture center, held their relaunch this month after some down time to recover from Brisbane’s monster floods. They asked us if we could provide some visuals that would be fresh and new- so we came up with some fun augmented reality Kinect hacks.

If you’re in Brisbane, would like to play with these and missed out at the launch event we will bringing it in again as part of the 2011 Ideas Festival. The installation will run all day 22 May @ The Edge. If you are interested in how it all works with this Kinect goodness we will also be presenting a making of at 12pm the same day.

3D Projection Mapping- Content is King

Projection mapping is hot right now. And while we can expect a lot more of it as the hardware gets cheaper and the software becomes better, it’s good to take a step back and ask why do it all. In this regard both commercial and artistic projects have a lot in common- they create magic. By transforming our surroundings we create a sense of wonder, and this can be used to craft powerful shared experiences. To what end really depends on the project, but projection mapping is a captivating medium and will only become more so. But like any medium, content is king.

So- to inspire and delight, here are three recent video mapping projects from around the world that WIN. Each also has that special ‘something different’.

Light Installation @ UAP Unlimited Dinner

Everyone is Happy Productions was asked to create a site specific light installation for Urban Art Projects (UAP). As a part of the Unlimited Asia-Pacific design triennial, UAP hosted a dinner bringing together 70 leading business people, policy makers, designers, researchers and academics. Speakers for the evening included Managing Director of the ABC Mark Scott, Unlimited Creative Director Ewan McEoin, and UAP CEO Ben Tait.

UAP is a specialist design consultancy creating site-specific art and design commissions for architectural and landscape environments. They have some pretty amazing work showcased on their website.

Opening Video for the United Nations DPI NGO Conference

The UN DPI NGO conference was held in Melbourne at the end of August and was the largest UN event ever held in Australia. The conference focused on advancing global health, and was attended by more than 300 non-government organizations from 70 countries.

We had the pleasure of conceiving & producing the opening video for the conference, a made-for-projection piece that was played in full HD on a 10m screen.

The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) build on agreements made at United Nations conferences in the 1990s and represent commitments by all countries to reduce poverty and hunger, and to tackle ill-health, gender inequality, lack of education, lack of access to clean water and environmental degradation.

Rapid Projection Mapping System

Everyone is Happy Productions developed a very fast and flexible projection mapping system which we were asked to present at Pecha Kucha Brisbane. This was part of that demonstration, however the same setup can very rapidly map out all sorts of shapes.

There are a couple of cuts, but NO post FX at all, I promise. Developed in VVVV.
