href="http://i2.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/news/features/2011-player-movement/1212-tyson-chandler-526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">

After the lockout, NBA Teams GMs and player agents began to return to work once again. Some teams continuing to improve their lineups, some clearing up their cap space to get quality free agents, and some hoping to free their rosters and hope to get young and fresh legs next year's drafts.

As of December 12, here are some of the player movements for NBA season 2011-2012.

After contending a championship last year with Miami Heat, center Jamaal Magloire signed with Toronto Raptors last Friday.

"It's an honor," Magloire said. "I'm very privileged to have this opportunity. This doesn't happen very often. There's only 450 guys in this league and not only am I a part of it, I get an opportunity to come home. I'm so happy."

The Toronto Raptors have also signed veteran free agent forward Rasual Butler and agreed to terms with guard Anthony Carter.

Phoenix Suns re-signed guard-forward Grant Hill to a one-year contract. Phoenix also signed guards Sebastian Telfair and Shannon Brown to one-year contracts. Waived guard Vince Carter who happened to join the Dallas Mavericks.

Vince Carter agreed to terms with the defending NBA champions Friday evening, hours after the Phoenix Suns exercised a clause in his contract to give Carter a $4 million buyout of his $18 million salary this season.

Carter's deal is for the $3 million mini-midlevel exception, the most the Mavs could offer as a team over the salary cap. It's a three-year deal with the next two seasons partially guaranteed.

Carter could join Jason Kidd as the Mavs' starting backcourt. They played together for two full seasons and parts of two other seasons with the New Jersey Nets.

"You talk about a veteran who understands how to play and win," Kidd said after Saturday's practice. "Athletically, he can stretch the defense, he can pass and he's a great guy. For that, he definitely fits in our mold and he can help us win."

Los Angeles Lakers traded forward Lamar Odom and second-round pick to the Dallas Mavericks for a first-round pick and $8.9 million trade exception.

Los Angeles Clippers re-signed center DeAndre Jordan after matching a $43 million offer sheet by Golden State Warriors, Clippers also signed forward Caron Butler to a three-year contract. Butler told the media that he has fully recovered from his knee injury, the Clippers' Official Twitter reports.

Atlanta Hawks signed guard Tracy McGrady to a one-year contract. A veteran-minimum deal with the Atlanta Hawks, a source close to the situation told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. Hawks have signed 10-year veteran forward Vladimir Radmanovic, who played last season with Golden State.

New York Knicks traded forward Ronny Turiaf, cash considerations and a 2013 second-round draft pick to Washington and guard Andy Rautins to Dallas, who sent center Tyson Chandler and the draft rights to Ahmad Nivins and Giorgos Printezis to New York and a 2012 second-round draft pick to Washington. Washington also sent a conditional future second-round draft pick to Dallas. New York Knicks signed guard Mike Bibby and forward Jared Jeffries and waived guard Chauncey Billups.

NBA's Sixth Man last year forward Lamar Odom who averaged 14.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists was dealt to 2011 NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks for an $8.9 million trade exception plus a protected first-round pick.

"Lamar was a fine player for us in his seven years with the Lakers and was a key to helping us win two championships," Kupchak said in a statement. "In addition, he always conducted himself with class and professionalism, and we wish him well in the remainder of his career."

Odom indicated he was hurt by being included in the scuttled trade with New Orleans for Paul. Los Angeles, Houston and New Orleans agreed on a deal Thursday that would have sent Odom and Lakers forward Pau Gasol to New Orleans for Hornets guard Paul. Gasol would then have been sent to Houston for Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic and a 2012 first-round pick.

In the aftermath of the canceled deal, Odom skipped the Lakers' first day of training camp Friday. He did, however, go to the practice facility to have a face-to-face meeting with general manager Mitch Kupchak, during which he expressed his desire to be traded, according to the source. Kupchak asked Odom to reconsider his position and told the 12-year veteran to think over his decision.

"You don't want to go to no place you're not wanted," Odom told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

Neither team formally acknowledged the deal until Sunday night, but both teams knew all about the surprising transaction when they reported for training camp practices that morning.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle and star Dirk Nowitzki spoke eagerly about adding Odom to the defending NBA champions' roster without losing a player in return. Odom will aid the Mavs' recovery from Tyson Chandler's departure, and Carlisle said Odom's partnership with Nowitzki and Shawn Marion would form the NBA's best frontcourt.

"Right now, for me, having Odom, Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, we may have the best forward trio in this league right now. And that's exciting," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said.
"Lamar Odom is a guy we have great respect for as a person and as an all-around player in this league. We feel he's going to add so many different dimensions for us -- length, playmaking, scoring, experience, championship experience," Carlisle added.

"Excited," Nowitzki said, describing his first emotion on hearing of the deal. "I mean really to get Lamar Odom for a trade exception -- and I don't even know what that is -- so we turned nothing into a great player. I've always been a fan of his game because he's always been a great all-around player. He's very smooth, very fun to watch, so I think he's going to fit in great. He can play multiple positions, he can guard multiple positions, he's long, so I think he's going to fit in well."

Odom's Laker teammates said there weren't happy with the deal.

Bryant and Derek Fisher led a chorus of confused anger from the Lakers, who have no idea what their front office is planning just two weeks before the season opener. Los Angeles is thought to be working on a deal for Orlando center Dwight Howard, but the trade exception obtained from Dallas could be only a minor part of any potential deal.

"As a basketball player, it confuses you as to what your focus should be," Fisher said. "I'm very disappointed and frustrated for (Odom and Gasol). If I had my choice, Lamar would be a Laker for life."

Bryant said he hated seeing Odom leave Los Angeles: "Especially to them. We were supposed to come back and get them back. It's tough. ... Do I think we got too little? Who did we get? I don't think Mark Cuban is protesting this trade."

"To be honest with you, I don't like it," Kobe Bryant said. "It's tough to lose Lamar. Pau (Gasol) is still here, and we're all thankful for that. It's hard when you've been through so many battles with players to just see them go somewhere else. It's tough."

While Odom opted to stay away from the team while the trades were still in flux, Gasol has continued to practice with the team in the interim. Gasol was present for the team's media day Sunday and even filmed a television promo for the Lakers' Christmas Day game against Chicago. He looked into a camera and declared, "We're back!" while wearing his No. 16 Lakers jersey.

Gasol practiced with the team Sunday following the media day festivities.

"I don't think this is personal at all," Gasol said. "This is a business move, I think. The franchise is looking to do its best for the best interest of the franchise and the team. ... I'll just have to be professional. My wish is to stay here. I love being part of this team, this franchise, this city, their fans, everybody. So it's been during this last couple of days to have this uncertainty and insecurity.

One of the NBA's finest point guards, Deron Williams who is now playing for Besiktas Milangaz, a Turkish basketball team had some thoughts about the NBA Commissioner, David Stern. Williams called Stern a "bully."

"He knows he's a bully, ain't no secret," Williams told reporters Sunday, when asked about Stern. "I think everybody knows that," Williams added.

D-Will was responding to a question regarding Stern nixing a three-way blockbuster trade. The Hornets would have received Lamar Odom, last year's top sixth man, from the Lakers, as well as forward Luis Scola, shooting guard Kevin Martin, point guard Goran Dragic and a first-round draft choice from the Houston Rockets. And the Lakers' Pau Gasol would have gone to the Rockets.

The Hornets are owned by the NBA, and Stern said more pieces needed to be added to make the deal acceptable. The Lakers eventually pulled out of the trade and moved in a different direction. Lamar Odom, so hurt by being included in the trade, so he requested to be traded. So the Lakers dealt Odom to Dallas Mavericks for an $8.9 million trade exception, as well as a protected first-round pick.

"You're fighting a bully, man. David Stern is a bully," Williams said. "You can't really go up against him, man."

"I think every owner of every big business is a bully," Williams continued. "That's how they become successful."

Reports have surfaced, since the trade was denied by the NBA, that team owners were upset and had complained to Stern about the possibility of yet another small-market team losing an All-Star to a big market.

"I'm sure he's probably pissed off and probably upset. It's just a bad situation for everybody, all the guys involved in the trade thinking they're gone and having to go back to their teams. It's just a weird situation, I think."

Williams has kept his mouth closed when asked about trade rumors surrounding the Nets and their possible pursuit of Howard. But this time, he didn't hide his feelings about the possibility of teaming up with Howard to form arguably the most dynamic center-point guard tandem in the league.

"It makes me smile a bit," Williams said before smiling.

Because they still have Gasol and 24-year-old center Andrew Bynum, the Lakers will be the Nets' main competition for Howard's services. That offer could trump New Jersey's package, which is built around 23-year-old center Brook Lopez and two future first-round draft picks.

The Philippines' Smart Gilas defeated Syria 75-52 in the second round of the 2011 FIBA Asia basketball championship in Wuhan, China on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 (Day 7).

Philippines took an early lead in the game, 14-11. Syria had its first lead 19-16 when key players focused to attack in the shaded area and converted some points on layups off defensive rebounds.

The Philippines trailed by five at the early minutes of the second quarter. The Syrians widened their lead by successfully hitting a couple of shots beyond the arc and running fastbreaks. Gilas is 0 from the three-point line.

Syria 32, Philippines 23, at the break.

Philippines started strong in the third quarter. Center Marcus Douthit immediately made 2 rebounds at the starting minutes. Although Syria traded shots, Philippines managed to cut the lead down to 4 points with 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Rannidel de Ocampo drained a three-pointer to come closer by only 1. Douthit added 2 more points off the glass to take the lead back in favor of the Philippines. Since then, the Philippines never looked back.

Syria committed a turnover via an 8-second violation. Philippines continued to attack the basket with Jimmy Alapag stealing the ball from the opponent twice. Swingman Chris Lutz gunned a three in the corner seconds before the end of the third period.

Early in the fourth quarter, Forward De Ocampo slammed the ball for two coming from a missed 3-point shot from Alapag. Gilas leading by ten.

Syria appeared to have lost its way; they were stuck at 45 and went scoreless early in the 4th quarter while Philippines has 60.

Mario Lassiter has cut through the defense of the Syrians, made 2 and 1. Syria has finally made a shot to end the six-minute dry spell, but Smart Gilas continued to show powerful basketball action up to the last minute and led by as much as 24 points in the last quarter.

Smart Gilas Pilipinas won over Syria 75-52. WUHAN (FIBA Asia Championship) - Another team entered the gold medal race at the FIBA Asia Championship on Tuesday night, as the Philippines prevailed 83-76 over the previously undefeated Japan in the game of the tournament to date.

Swingmen Marcio Lassiter and Chris Lutz were originally ruled ineligible for the tournament, but after an appeal were reinstated in time for the Second Round, reinvigorating the team with their physical defense that eventually wore Japan down, and giving the Philippines genuine hopes of medal.

Philippines center Marcus Douthit led the way in dominant fashion with 25 points and 18 rebounds, while Lassiter and Jim Alapag each scored 15. Center Joji Takeuchi had 22 points and 8 rebounds for Japan.

Marcus Douthit was delighted after the game. "That win is huge!" he said excitedly. "That gives us an easier path to the semi finals. We'll let other teams take the high road, we'll take the low road and hopefully we'll end up there in the end."

The Philippines jumped out to a quick start with Douthit dominating the boards and Marnel Baracael and Kelly Williams scoring eight quick points between them for an 8-2 lead, but Japan came right back at them.

After clawing back the margin slowly, Japan connected on three straight triples bridging quarter time to go ahead 26-18. When Takeki Shonaki hit a three-pointer of his own four minutes into the second term the score was 31-23.

The Philippines answered, a sweet Chris Tiu-Lassiter fast break cutting the gap back to two points. But Koki Takeuchi responded immediately with a long range bomb, and when Tomoo Amino nailed a three from the corner the margin was back out to eight points just before half time.

A 10-0 run in the third quarter, capped by an off-balance Lassiter three-pointer gave the Philippines a 46-43 lead with 5:30 to play in the third period, and they finished the term with a stunning 8-0 run in 1:30 to claim the lead.

Japan closed to within five in the final term, but a three-pointer from Alapag and four straight points from Douthit, including a tip jam that brought the crowd to their feet, had the margin at 13 points and the contest appeared over.

Takeuchi didn't think so however, scoring eight points in 70 seconds to bring the margin back to six. When he blew past Douthit it looked as if victory was possible for Japan, but he missed the easy reverse lay-up and the Philippines would hold on from the free throw line.

However locked-out NBA players fare in Europe, they likely won't top Marcus Brown.
No matter the European nation in which the next American NBA player plans to make a splash, chances are Marcus Brown has already been there, done that.

Success eluded the former Murray State Racer, twice a Ohio Valley Conference player of the year, during brief stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and Detroit Pistons.

A free agent now, Brown prefers keeping a low profile during his summer visits home, which last up to 50 days. "I just love the normal life and being simple," he said. "I just go about my business."

Although that workmanlike approach hasn't won him much acclaim stateside, it has made him one of the most successful American athletes abroad. With 2,715 points, Brown is the all-time leading scorer in the Euroleague, considered the world's second-best basketball league. He's also tops all-time in made free throws and in the Top 10 in steals and assists. The 24-team league archives statistics dating to its inaugural season in 2000-01.

Portland drafted Brown with the 46th pick of the 1996 NBA Draft. After playing a reserve role that season, he spent the next few years in Vancouver, France and Detroit. As a Piston, he pondered a return to Europe: "Do I want to sit on the bench and not have an opportunity to play, or do I want to go somewhere and really try to make a name for myself?"

"I just a took a chance and went over."

In the twilight of Brown's career, the winning continues, although his role has changed as his minutes on the court have waned. In the last couple seasons, media reports have referred to him as a player/coach for Zalgiris Kaunus but he denies it's an official position. "We didn't have a coach, and they just put that [label] on me. That's a bulls--- title they slapped on me. I don't really want to get into that."

When Weems joins the team this fall, he can expect a different brand of ball. European basketball is more team-oriented and physical, Brown said. "Nobody in Europe shoots ten free throws a game. There aren't as many fouls called, but there sure are more fouls" committed.

Brown hasn't spoken with any American NBA players contemplating making the jump abroad. "I don't even know any of those guys, and I'm sure they don't know me. I'm pretty sure they think they can go over there and turn it around or something. I mean, I really could care less if they do," he said.

"My time is pretty much ending anyway. I mean, God bless them. I hope they do well and are able to adjust. There are a lot of guys in Europe who can't play in the NBA and a lot of guys in the NBA who can't play in Europe."

An influx of American NBA players joining European clubs rosters could cause reserve American players currently on those rosters to lose their jobs. Many European teams have only two or three roster spots available to Americans.

"That's not my case, but I'm pretty sure there will be some guys left on the sideline. Once the lockout's over, there will be some guys who will be called back. But that's the cycle."

MIAMI, July 22nd – The Miami HEAT today announced the promotion of Nick Arison from Vice President, Basketball Operations to the newly created position of Chief Executive Officer. In his new role, Arison will oversee the day-to-day operations of the franchise and report directly to Micky Arison, who will remain the team’s Managing General Partner and Governor at the NBA’s Board of Governor meetings. Nick Arison has been a limited partner of the team and has served as the alternate governor since the 2005-06 season. The move is a natural progression for Nick, who has grown up with the HEAT. His grandfather, Ted Arison, was one of the team’s original founders and his father, Micky, bought the controlling share of the franchise and was named Managing General Partner on Feb. 13, 1995. Nick first started working for the organization as a team attendant for four seasons from 1995 through 1999, and upon his graduation from Duke University became a full-time staff member in 2003.

“This is something Nick has been working towards his whole life. He’s more prepared for this job than I was at his age when I became CEO of Carnival,” expressed Micky Arison. “I have the utmost confidence that Nick will continue to lead the HEAT as a model NBA franchise for many years to come.”

Nick Arison has served the HEAT in a variety of positions over the years, learning the business from the ground up. After first joining the HEAT as a team attendant and later serving summer internships in the Arena Operations, Community Affairs, and Sales and Marketing departments, he became a full-time staff member on the business side in 2003 as an Account Manager, Premium Partnerships. In 2006, he was promoted to Director, Corporate and Premium Services where he oversaw the Account Management Team. Prior to the 2008-09 season he was named Vice President, Basketball Operations where he worked directly with HEAT President Pat Riley and Assistant General Manager/Senior Vice President, Basketball Operations Andy Elisburg in overseeing the basketball side of the organization and played an active role in the recruiting and procurement of talent.

“I have been working for the Arison family for 16 years,” said Riley. “The Miami HEAT is truly a family organization and that is what makes it a desirable franchise to work for. The HEAT are the Arisons. Like his grandfather Ted and father Micky, Nick is an extraordinary, special young man and will serve the HEAT in a highly professional manner as those men did. Congratulations to Nick. He has earned it.”

“Micky, Nick and I have discussed this possibility for the last year, so I am not surprised at all by Micky's decision. Nick has worked very hard over the last eight years and is prepared for this opportunity,” continued Riley. “As far as the decision making process goes concerning coaches, training staff and players, that will remain my responsibility as it has the last 16 years. Over the years, we as a front office have always come to a consensus, along with Micky and Nick, on personnel moves and Nick has played a major role in those transactions. I will continue to support Nick in all ways possible".

In addition to his responsibilities with the HEAT, Nick served as a member of the United States Men’s Senior National Team support staff from 2004-08. He assisted with the day-to-day operations for USA Basketball’s bronze medal winning team at the 2004 Olympics, the bronze medal winning 2006 World Championship team, the 2007 gold medal winning FIBA Americans Championship team and the 2008 Olympic Team which captured the gold medal in Beijing, China.

“Nick has certainly earned the respect of the basketball community through his leadership in the operations of the Miami HEAT,” said Duke University head men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. “I’m thrilled for the organization in recognizing his hard work ethic, lofty visions, and commitment to the profession. I consider Nick and his family to be very close friends and we’ve been fortunate to share several championship experiences together at Duke University (2001 NCAA Championship) and with the U.S. National Team (2008 Beijing Olympics). As the CEO of the HEAT, I am positive that Nick will continue to help lead the franchise towards its goal of winning another NBA Championship as well.”

Arison began his basketball career while attending Duke University. He spent four years as a team manager of the Blue Devils men’s basketball team and was named the head team manager during his senior year. Over that four-year span, Arison became the only team manager in Atlantic Coast Conference history to be a part of four straight ACC Championships and was a manager for Duke’s 2001 NCAA Championship team.

“I’m very excited and thankful for this opportunity and look forward to a seamless transition in my new position,” said Nick Arison. “Pat Riley is one of the greatest coaches and leaders in NBA history and will continue to run the basketball side of the team and Eric Woolworth the business side, just as they have for my father.”

A native of Miami, Arison graduated from Duke with a BA in public policy and a certificate in marketing and management.

League MVP Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul are among those who will be playing exhibition games in the Philippines this weekend, according to multiple media reports.

The games benefit the MVP Sports Foundation, which helps youth sports programs.

"The (foundation) over there is all about giving back and helping out kids," Paul told the New Orleans Times-Picayune Wednesday. "That's something I feel strongly about also. I'm going over there with a few other guys, and we're going to play. I found out about this through D-Fish (Derek Fisher). He let me know about it."

According to MVP Sports Foundation, organizer of this once-in-a-lifetime series, tickets at all levels at the Araneta Coliseum have been sold out as early as July 15, when news about the event came out in various social networks.

Sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com that Fisher will not only play but will be also coach. Reports say Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans, Minnesota Timberwolves, James Harden of the Oklahoma Thunder, draftee Derrick Williams and Washington Wizards big man JaVale McGee will also participate.

Rose's agent, former Bulls guard B.J. Armstrong, will be an assistant coach, sources said.

The NBA stars will first take on the PBA selection on July 23 at 7 p.m. before meeting the Smart Gilas squad on July 24 at 1 p.m.

James Yap and Marc Pingris of BMeg, Mark Caguioa and JC Intal of Ginebra, Arwin Santos and Rabeh Al-Hussaini of Petron Blaze, Ryan Reyes, Jason Castro and Larry Fonacier of Talk N’ Text, Sonny Thoss and LA Tenorio of Alaska, Sol Mercado of Meralco, Gary David of Powerade, Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine and Danny Seigle of Air21 will comprise the PBA team which will be mentored by Chot Reyes.

For the Rajko Toroman-coached Smart Gilas, it’s the core of the national squad plus the pros who were recruited for the Olympic qualifier this September: Mark Barroca, JVee Casio, Dylan Ababou, Japeth Aguilar, Mac Baracael, Jason Ballesteros, Chris Lutz, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Tiu, the naturalized player Marcus Douthit, and PBA reinforcements Kelly Williams, Jimmy Alapag, Asi Taulava, Dondon Hontiveros and Ranidel De Ocampo.

Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah is following through on plans he discussed as a possibility at various points last season and will play for the French national team this summer.

Noah wanted to play for the country where he lived as a youth last summer but instead rested his plantar fasciitis.
SAN DIEGO -- Though he plans to play in Turkey during the lockout, New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams will rejoin the NBA as soon as an agreement on a collective bargaining agreement is reached. But if the owners break the players and get the proposal they're pushing for, Williams believes some stars could opt to play overseas long term.

"If the proposal (the owners) have, if that's what they're sticking with and that's what they want, then I think it would be hard for a lot of guys to come back to the NBA," Williams said Friday in an interview at a private golf resort in San Diego.

Williams said any collective bargaining agreement that would leave stars such as Kobe Bryant making only $11 million a year -- the owners have proposed cutting players' salaries by roughly a third -- could open the door for an unprecedented exodus to Europe.

"(Kobe) could go make more money overseas, I guarantee you." said Williams, who has a one-year, $5 million deal with Besiktas. "If (European teams) knew he could be there for a full season, or they knew I could be there for a full season, or they knew LeBron James could be there for a full season, they'll pay more money, of course."

If other stars follow Williams to Europe during the lockout, it could be a blow to the league's owners, giving the players' union the leverage it needs to fight off the owners' demands. Williams said he spoke with the union before agreeing to play in Turkey to make sure he wasn't damaging its cause. He said NBPA executive director Billy Hunter was in favor of the move.

"I talked to Mr. Hunter and he said he supported it," Williams said. "He was happy for me. He thought I made a great decision, a business decision. He was behind me."

Williams' new coach, Ergin Ataman of Besiktas, has said he hopes to sign Kobe Bryant to play alongside Williams. But Williams can see Bryant signing elsewhere first.

"I see him going to China or somewhere," said Williams, who teamed with Bryant to help the U.S. win the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. "He's big in China. I was over there with him in Beijing. He's 'The Man' over there."

Williams said he has not spoken with Bryant, but he estimates he's heard from 10 to 15 other players, some of them superstars, since his decision to play overseas became public. He said many players are willing to follow his lead.

"I've talked to a lot of players, you would be surprised," he said, refusing to name names. "I talked to a few before and I knew some guys were considering it as well. But since it came out, it was just like a snowball of guys calling me (saying) 'What are you doing? When are you leaving?' And guys want to go too. They want to do it."

Williams said he started thinking about playing overseas two years ago, when the union began telling players a lockout was likely. While he has not been allowed to speak with the Nets since the lockout was imposed on July 1, Williams made them aware of his intentions before the work stoppage.

Nets blog
Looking for more information on the Nets? ESPNNewYork.com has you covered. Blog

Williams, who has two years and $34 million remaining on his deal, can opt out next summer. If the entire season is lost to the lockout, it could mean he never plays another game for the Nets. With the club scheduled to move to Brooklyn for the 2012-2013 season, that would be a crushing blow to the franchise, which traded Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and two first-round draft picks to Utah for Williams in February.

Williams said he has not yet decided whether he will opt out, but he admitted it would be unfortunate for him and the Nets if the season is cancelled.

"I think it will kind of put a damper on things because I want to see where the Nets are going this season," Williams said. "See what kind of additions we can make, because that will definitely help. But I don't know. I still can't really say anything until the new CBA because who knows if I even can opt out. There's no telling."

Williams spoke highly of the Nets' organization, saying he played golf with GM Billy King and coach Avery Johnson before the lockout. The club has pitched Williams on being the face of the new franchise in Brooklyn, and he likes what he's heard so far.

"They have big dreams for Brooklyn and I can kind of picture that," he said. "It kind of excites me. I think it can be big."

If Williams, who had surgery on his right wrist in April, were to get hurt in Turkey, the Nets could void his contract. He said he is in the process of securing personal insurance against injury just in case. But ultimately, he isn't worried about injury.

"People say, 'Oh, you're going to get hurt,'" Williams said. "I can get hurt playing at (University of San Diego) or wherever I'm at. I can get hurt walking down these steps. Of course, that's a big part of it. But I also did my due diligence, researched insurance. I'll be covered."

Some have speculated that Williams, who has made more than $40 million over his six-year career, is going overseas because he needs the money. He laughed at that notion.

"It's ridiculous," he said. "We've known this lockout's coming. I have plenty of money saved for the lockout purpose. Now, I don't even need to touch that money. I can invest that money. I can go grow that money. It's not something that's money-driven.

"It's more about the experience. Experience and being able to compete and play basketball. I don't want to sit around. That's what the NBA wants us to do right now. They locked us out of our gyms, they locked us out of facilities. We got to go find somewhere on our own to go hoop, to put games together. I don't have to do that. I've got a team. I'm going to go through organized practices. I'm going to be in game situations. So if the lockout is lifted, I'm going to be ready to play."

Williams has not yet signed his contract with Besiktas, but the franchise's management team is planning to come to the United States next week to wrap everything up. While there is a clause in the contract that will allow him to return to the NBA whenever the lockout ends, he doesn't see that happening quickly.

"I don't see a deal getting done anytime soon," he said, "because we're so far apart."

Williams spoke extensively with his former Utah Jazz teammate Mehmet Okur, who is from Turkey, before making his decision. He also spoke with former University of Illinois teammate Dee Brown, who has played professionally in Turkey. He did not get to speak with Allen Iverson, who played briefly for Besiktas last season.

Williams will take his wife and four kids with him to Istanbul, where the team will provide them with an apartment, a car and personal security.

"It's just different," Williams said. "There is no other time in my career that I'll be able to go live and play in another city, experience a different lifestyle, see new things. I'm looking forward to it."

Chris Broussard is a senior writer for ESPN The Magazine.

The contract also would include some kind of insurance for Pachulia since his guaranteed contract with the Hawks would not be protected in case of an injury sustained while playing in another league.

FIBA, basketball’s world governing body, has yet to rule on whether NBA players under contract would be cleared to sign contracts with other leagues during the lockout. NBA commissioner David Stern said during the season the league would not attempt to block players from playing elsewhere.

“We are not going to do anything to affect our contract with the NBA,” Pachulia said. “That’s my life right now.”

Unlike most NBA players, Pachulia would not face culture shock playing in Europe. He is a native of bordering Georgia, speaks Turkish and holds a passport from the country.

“For me, it feels like going home,” he said. “I played there for six years [as a teenager]. I know a lot of the players, the manager, the coaches. I’m excited.”

Pachulia plans to play for Georgia in European Olympic qualifying this summer. FIBA is expected to announce a plan to insure NBA players who participate in international competitions.

It’s possible more NBA players could decide to play overseas during the lockout. Roger Mason Jr., a players union vice president, told Newsday that Knicks stars Amar’e Stodemire and Carmelo Anthony inquired about playing overseas (though Stoudemire’s agent later said Stoudemire isn’t thinking about making the move).

“I wish none of us [NBA players] would have to deal with these kind of things,” Pachulia said. “But the most important thing is I love the game.”

The New Jersey Nets finally landed a big-name All-Star in a blockbuster trade that gives them point guardDeron Williams and sends rookie Derrick Favors and point guard Devin Harris to the Utah Jazz.

The Jazz also will receive the Nets' first-round pick in 2011, which could be a lottery pick, along with cash and Golden State's 2012 first-round draft pick.

The deal came two days after the Nets failed to land Carmelo Anthony, who was acquired by the New York Knicks as part of a blockbuster deal with the Denver Nuggets.

Jazz CEO Greg Miller said he made the move because of a "gut feeling" that he wouldn't be able to sign Williams to a long-term deal after next season.

"If you look at what happened with Phoenix, Toronto and Cleveland ... they all lost their marquee player and had very little if anything to show for it," Miller said. "This trade allows us to be competitive now and beyond the 2012 season."

The Jazz were a perennial contender with Williams, but his reputation took a hit when Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan retired one day after clashing with him during a game.

Sloan, reached Wednesday morning at his second home in Illinois, was aware of the trade but didn't want to say much.

"I have no reaction to what the Jazz are doing," Sloan said. "Good luck to Deron."

Miller insisted Sloan's retirement and Williams' trade were not connected, and reiterated that the Jazz have always been about structure, order, discipline and respect.

"One of the things that will always be the case as long as our family has anything to say about it is we will support our coach first and players second," he said.

New Jersey has been desperate to make its first score under new owner Mikhail Prokhorov. The Nets talked with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh last summer, then turned their attention to Anthony, before bouncing back and finally landing Williams.

Williams joins an exodus of players heading to the East, following Amare Stoudemire's move from Phoenix to New York and Anthony's deal to the Knicks. The Jazz are only a half-game ahead of Memphis for the final playoff spot in the West.

"Very rarely are you able to trade for someone who is arguably the best at his position," Nets coach Avery Johnson said. "We had to give up a lot, but when you get a chance to get him, you go for it. It wasn't a planned trade. This wasn't a plan B. He's a plan A guy.
"We eventually had to do something like this to get a player of this skill level," Johnson said. "We felt we needed to get someone who was going to give us a little swagger. He's someone we will have for the long run. Sometimes, you have to try things to get better."

The long-anticipated trade of Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks was completed Monday night (February 21).

The sides moved close to the agreement earlier in the day when the Knicks agreed to include 24-year-old rookie center Timofey Mozgov in their offer. He was not a key player in the trade, but his inclusion was a deal-maker for the Nuggets.

The Nuggets will receive forwards Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler, point guard Raymond Felton, Mozgov, the Knicks' first-round pick in 2014, and second-round picks in the 2012 and 2013 drafts that originally belonged to the Warriors.

In return the Knicks will enter the final two months of the season with Anthony, point guards Chauncey Billups and Anthony Carter, big man Shelden Williams and forward Renaldo Balkman, a former Knick. New York will also receive a second-round pick and Corey Brewer from the Timberwolves, with Eddy Curry's expiring contract, Anthony Randolph and $3 million heading to Minnesota. Melo Anthony will join fellow All-Star Amare Stoudemire in the frontcourt, giving the Knicks the potent duo they hoped they could assemble last summer in free agency.

"We liked the way our team played this year and I looked at it and I thought we had one piece that was at the high level of the league. We always wanted two pieces at least," team president Donnie Walsh said.

Stoudemire has led the Knicks to a 28-26 record this season, but said Tuesday they will be even more dangerous with Anthony bringing his 25.2 points per game to join his 26.1 average.

The Knicks haven't made the playoffs since 2004, but are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference in their first season since acquiring Stoudemire from Phoenix last summer. He thinks the blockbuster deal could make them better equipped to face teams such as Boston or Miami, which already have multiple All-Stars, in the postseason.

"It's not easy and it's not going to get any easier for us now because the target is on our back," Stoudemire said. "Teams are going to be eager to play against us."

Miami's LeBron James said he was happy his friend's uncertainty was finally over.

"I think it's great for the NBA," James said. "The fact that the Knicks are back, the Celtics have been back for the last few years and all the other teams are trying to compete, I think it's great."

Though Walsh and coach Mike D'Antoni said it hurt to give up so many players they liked, the Knicks felt they had to make the move after failing last summer to land two superstars through free agency.

"Now we've got two guys in our stable," D'Antoni said.

A league source insisted that none of the acquisitions would be shipped to the Nets, contrary to reports Monday that Denver was considering a secondary trade of Gallinari to New Jersey.

The trade consummates rumors that were launched at Anthony's wedding last July, when LeBron James and Chris Paul launched a series of toasts that predicted Anthony would come to play in New York with fellow All-Star Amar'e Stoudemire, who signed with the Knicks last summer as a free agent.

The Nuggets could have attempted to trade Anthony to the Nets, but it was known that he wanted to sign a three-year, $65 million extension with the Knicks. The package from New York was more palatable to the Nuggets because they're receiving four Knicks starters who are all 26 or younger, which should hasten Denver's rebuilding efforts without Anthony.

Police in an Atlanta suburb say New Orleans Hornets' backup point guard Jarrett Jack has been arrested and charged with drunken driving.

Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead said in an e-mail Monday afternoon (February 21) the 27-year-old former Georgia Tech star was pulled over early Sunday (February 20) by an officer who clocked him at 66 mph in a 45-mph zone. Police say Jack's Mercedes was also weaving.

Whitehead says Jack failed a field sobriety test, then was taken to the Gwinnett County jail and given a breath test, which measured just under the legal limit of .08 more than an hour after Jack was stopped.

Jack was also charged with failure to maintain a lane. He was released Sunday night.

New Orleans Hornets backup point guard Jarrett Jack said he is deeply disappointed in his actions and isn’t taking the situation delicately.

Hornets General Manager Dell Demps said they will allow the legal system to run its course, and no further action will be taken by the team, which likely clears the way for Jack to play Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers at the New Orleans Arena.

“We are aware of the incident involving Jarrett Jack and are extremely disappointed in the situation Jarrett has created — regardless of the final outcome,’’ Demps said in a statement. “This is a matter that we take very seriously, however. We will respect the judicial right to due process.’’

Jack, 27, joined his teammates Monday night for their first practice since the All-Star break began Thursday.

“I’m deeply sorry for making the team have to go through this,’’ Jack said. “I know the importance of what I did, and I will just try to learn from it as much as possible. I made a mistake, and the key is not repeating it.’’

Jason Williams also known as "White Chocolate" has been upset for the past weeks over his playing time issues. Williams had been vocal this season about his displeasure over his lack of playing time.

The 35 year old and 12-year NBA veteran appeared in just 16 games all season with the Magic, mostly in mop-up roles as the Magic’s third or fourth point guard. Williams was originally selected in the first round (seventh overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft, Williams played in 777 career NBA regular season games with Sacramento, Memphis, Miami and Orlando, averaging 10.6 ppg., 5.9 apg., 2.3 rpg. and 1.20 stlpg. in 29.7 minpg. He has also played in 67 career playoff contests, averaging 8.3 ppg., 3.3 apg. and 1.9 rpg. in 25.9 minpg. Williams was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team in 1998-99, currently stands as Memphis’ all-time leader in assists (2,041) and helped Miami capture the 2005-06 NBA Championship.

Williams was signed late in the summer as the Magic’s third point guard, but said back in December he’s had a difficult time dealing with not being a part of the regular rotation. Magic President of Basketball Operations/GM Otis Smith said originally that the team would decide Williams’ fate upon getting back to Orlando after Friday’s game in Chicago, but instead decided to waive Williams Wednesday afternoon.

"The opportunity to play here wasn’t there and it was tough for him. It was tough for him from Day 1, but I wish him well,’’ said Magic GM Otis Smith, who added that there’s no immediate plans to add a 14th player to the roster. "Anytime you lose one of your 14 guys it’s a difficult decision to make. Everyone on this roster is there for a reason and has a purpose. We had conversations with him along the way with the issue of playing and not playing. It’s the same conversation I have with other guys who aren’t playing. But it was a little tougher for him to go from playing major minutes to not playing at all.’’

Williams, 35, likely would have been inactive for Wednesday night’s game anyway because of the Magic’s plan to active reserve power forward/center Malik Allen, who has been out for a month with a badly sprained ankle. Allen will serve as the Magic’s fourth big man behind Dwight Howard, Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson.

Starting point guard Jameer Nelson, one of Williams’ closest friends on the team, said the veteran would be missed because of his sage advice and humor.

"Whether he knew it or not, he brought a lot of leadership to this team,’’ Nelson said. ``He didn’t always say something every day, but when he did guys listened because he’s played a long time in this league.’’

Nelson said he was well aware that Williams was struggling with being demoted to a role where he rarely played. "He’s a competitor and he wasn’t satisfied sitting on the bench,’’ Nelson said. ``I don’t know that feeling, but I’ll definitely miss him.’’

Williams had a solid 2009-10 season in Orlando, backing up Nelson and averaging 6.0 points and 3.6 assists while appearing in all 82 games. But his role changed dramatically when the Magic signed Chris Duhon to a free-agent deal in the offseason. And Williams fell even further down the depth chart on Dec. 18 when the Magic traded for Gilbert Arenas.

Williams, who practiced with the Magic on Tuesday in Orlando, has also battled a chronically sore left foot this season. He missed 19 games because of the coach’s decision, five games for personal reasons, four games because of the foot injury and one other game because of a NBA suspension for physically contacting an official during an argument.

"He was fine around our guys and fine in practice (on Tuesday), but he was just frustrated with the situation,’’ Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "I had talked to him way back and knew where he was. He and Otis had been talking. What he said was that he thought he’d be able to handle (not playing) and he couldn’t. Then, he got hurt and that gave him no chance to compete. And he was starting to play a little bit and we made the (Arenas) trade and that increased his frustration, too.’’

Paul Pierce became the third player in Celtics history to reach 20,000 points, joining Hall of Famers Larry Bird and John Havilcek with that distinction. "Five years ago, I never would have dreamed I would have been scoring my 20,000th point in a Celtics jersey," Pierce said.

Milwaukee is winless in three games on the road this season. After an impressive opening frame, Milwaukee guard John Salmons continued with his shooting woes, missing his final six shots to finish with 30 percent shooting on the night, in just 24 minutes of action. Through five games, the Bucks swingman is shooting just 27 percent from the field.

Ray Allen provided additional offense for the winners with 23 points, while Rajon Rondo continued his sensational start to the year with 15 assists. Andrew Bogut led six Bucks players in double figures with 21 points, to go along with 13 rebounds in the defeat.

Rondo continued his torrid start to the season, filling up the box score once again with 17 points, eight rebounds and 15 assists in 47 minutes of action. The NBA has told players they will be whistled for technicals for "overt" gestures, even if they aren't directed at a referee, running up to an official to contest a call, or other actions that don't show proper respect for the game.

The fans wanted this, the NBA emperor tells everyone. David Stern tosses out some vague claim of market research to demand of his players what the commissioner has never demanded of himself: a control of his temper, the grace to react instantly to the incompetence of his officials with a robotic restraint.

That’s the irony: NBA employees have long described Stern’s private disposition as something that could make Rasheed Wallace (notes) blush with embarrassment. Nevertheless, Stern delivers a desperate mandate that does nothing but try to cover the flaws of his referees and remind the rank-and-file union members they’re ultimately under his control in this labor fight, ultimately at the mercy of his whim.

It's a scene that's been repeated around the league throughout this preseason plenty of times -- way too much for the liking of the NBA players association - and will likely continue when games start counting next week. Stepping toward refs, being demonstrative, even punching the air, it all falls under a newly emphasized respect-the-game umbrella that's led to a surge in technical fouls league-wide.

"The emotion of the game can never be taken out of the game of basketball,'' two-time reigning MVP LeBron James said. "And that's when the fans, that's when the real guys, and the people who are watching and who know the game of basketball will know there's a problem with the game."

"This game has always been built on emotion,'' James added. "And if we try to take that out of the game, the fans won't like it as much. And without the fans, there's no game.''

"I've seen a couple of my teammates get technicals for, I'm not going to say nothing,'' James said, "but really nothing.''

Across the NBA, plenty of players seem to be agreeing with James' sentiments.

"I'm not surprised about the rule,'' Denver forward J.R. Smith said. "I mean, the refs are getting tired of us complaining. And sometimes, I think we do go a little too far. But at the same time, it's in the heat of emotion. You're trying to win a game. But I understand both sides. I don't think that would have been at the top of the list of things that needed to be done, but I think something has to be done about it.''

Michael Jordan bought a 2007 Mercedes McLaren SLR 722? That's one of the best cars ever made. It was the ninth most expensive street legal car in the year 2008. Nice move, M.J.

Wait, he's selling it after only driving it 962 miles? Is this true? You give me hope, Michael, and then you take it all away.

So, the McLaren can be yours for $430,000, which is a little dear for that brand even if the wheels were spun for fewer than a thousand miles (considering it cost around $475,000 new). The sellers are clearly factoring in the whole "Michael Jordan owned this car" addition.

SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing). Mercedes-Benz stated that they would build 3,500 SLRs over a span of seven years, with an annual production of 500 cars. The "722" refers to the victory by Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.

What about the specs? Even three years later, this is one of the fastest things in the world. It has a 5 1/2-liter V8, it'll go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds, 200 km/h (120 mph) in 10.2 seconds and 300 km/h (190 mph) in 27.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 337 km/h (209 mph), and the rear-wheel driven monster is loaded with all sorts of carbon fiber bits so it's light as a feather in comparison to other super cars.

Also, Michael Jordan drove it. For a few hundred miles, at least.

Take a look at some of the pictures of this car.

A league source confirmed a report by Comcast Sports Net Washington on Friday that the Wizards fined guard Gilbert Arenas $50,000 for faking a knee injury on Tuesday.

Arenas told the team that his knee was sore Tuesday morning and thus was held out of that night's game against Atlanta. Washington coach Flip Saunders said before Tuesday night's game that Arenas' knee was bothering him. "His knee is acting up and is a little sore, and it looks like he's going to sit this one out," Saunders said. But after the game Arenas told reporters that he had faked the injury in order to give guard Nick Young, who had struggled in recent games, more playing time. Young scored 24 points against the Hawks. The team fined Arenas on Wednesday.

Arenas didn't start Thursday against Milwaukee. He left his first home game since being suspended for bringing guns to the Verizon Center last season. He had to leave the game suffering a groin injury just three minutes after coming into the game in the first quarter.

Gilbert Arenas didn't attempt a shot, but had three steals, a rebound, an assist and a blocked shot. He teamed with John Wall on some neat passes.

Arenas entered with 7:05 to play in the first quarter to tepid applause from the sparse home crowd and seemed to savor playing with Wall before asking out of the game three minutes later.

He was fined Wednesday for saying he had a sore left knee.

The Orlando Magic turned lights out in the home opener in their new arena. For an encore, they did it before the game started this time.

A malfunction with the main lights delayed the start of Orlando's preseason game against the Charlotte Bobcats about 25 minutes Thursday night. The lights dimmed for pregame introductions but didn't come back on immediately.

Then things turned a little comical.

Players went back to their benches. Some decided to keeping shooting. Orlando's mascot entertained fans with trick shots. Coach Stan Van Gundy of Orlando Magic went over to Charlotte Bobcats Larry Brown and had a chuckle over his proposal. "My two suggestions were that we play the first quarter back here in the practice room and put it on film up on the board," Van Gundy said. "Then Larry thought we should just play running time since we were so far behind."

"As soon as the lights come on he's going to kick our butts,'" Brown said, chuckling.

Fans didn't even seem overly bothered and players tried to lighten the mood. Some decided to keeping shooting, laughing when the moving spotlight and blaring music made the atmosphere closer to a nightclub than an NBA arena. Orlando's Ryan Anderson and J.J. Redick even started playing H-O-R-S-E. "My only chance against J.J. ever was in the dark," Anderson said.

Orlando's mascot, Stuff the Magic Dragon, entertained fans with trick shots, and he did make one half-court shot. Magic All-Star center Dwight Howard was even put on the "kiss camera" — and gave a big peck on the head to a laughing fan.

The Bobcats were beaten 86-73 in a game Orlando played mostly reserves. Brown backed up Van Gundy's comments, even joking after his team's ugly loss.

It's one of those reasons it's good you have four preseason games in a new facility," Van Gundy said. "There's going to be kinks. It's no big deal. Heck, a lot of teams start their games at 7:30 (not 7 p.m.), so we joined them."

Thrilled to see their best liked teams play with the new acquired players this summer. Unfortunate for some, some top-acquisitions this summer are not seen playing this pre-season due to injuries, Injuries acquired during practices, some during the pre-season games, and some at home.

Bulls power-forward Carlos Boozer is one of the most sensationalized acquisitions in the NBA this summer has not been playing since the start of the pre-season due to broken right pinky finger after tripping over a gym bag in his house.

Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade left in the first quarter after a strained right hamstring during the game against Detroit in the pre-season opener. It was a letdown for those eager to see Wade, James and Bosh play together. The two-time NBA MVP, LeBron James also sits out after leaving the exhibition game in Moscow, suffering with cramps in his right hamstring.

Cavaliers forward Antawn Jamison left the game in the second quarter after sustaining a left knee sprain during the game against the San Antonio Spurs. Meanwhile, guard Anthony Parker also had a minor hand injury causing him to leave the game. During the game, two key players of Cavs were not able to play during the game against Spurs due to injuries as well. Guard Mo Williams (groin) and the swingman Anderson Varejao who was recovering from an ankle injury,

These injuries aren't as serious as missing games in the regular season. Having injured now is not critical as being injured during the regular season. But there are other players who have been recovering from injury who may be playing now but not at their 100%, or others may miss huge part of the regular season or worst, they could miss the whole season.

Tony Parker at 28, spent all his career with the San Antonio Spurs. Tony Parker doesn't want this season to be his last with the San Antonio Spurs. But that doesn't mean it won't happen as well.

"I've said I want to stay in San Antonio. But if San Antonio doesn't want to keep me, I will understand," Parker said Monday. "But I definitely want to stay here."

That insistence won't quiet the rumors of Parker leaving San Antonio. Tim Duncan says he has no idea what Tony will do. Even Manu Ginobili doesn't have anything to say about what Parker plans. Manu is leaving the french star point guard to make his decision while the Spurs general manager R.C. Buford remains tightlipped.

At his age, Tony Parker has the longest NBA future still ahead among the Spurs' Big Three. They won three NBA championships together since 2003. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker were all part of the 2003, 2005 and 2007 championships in Spurs. Tony actually won his Finals MVP award in 2007 after beating the young Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James.

"A lot of people think I'm saying that because of my contract year," Parker said. "But I really feel I'm saying that because of Timmy, not because of my contract. The NBA is a long season, and Timmy is 34, going to be 35. That's why I feel like this is our last chance to really win a championship."

As Tim Duncan reaches 35 years of age, this season could be the best chance for them to win the title. With Ginobili signed a three-year extension, swingman Richard Jefferson restructured a long-term deal this summer, guard George Hill, a quickly emerging talent plus the addition of the brazilian Tiago Splitter will really be great chance.

Last year, it was Manu Ginobili who came to training camp with an expiring contract and no assurance that he would still want to stay with Spurs. Spurs questions what a 33-year-old still had left considering his injury history. But Ginobili erased those doubts with a spectacular second half season.

But that doesn't mean Tony's situation is similar.

"As we did last year, we were in constant communication with Manu's people and I continue to have discussions with Tony's representatives," Buford said. "But I don't know that means that Tony will be here if he plays well or if he doesn't play well. He'll have the opportunity to make an impact in that decision as well."

Tony Parker averaged 16 points last season. Compared to his all-star year before, leading the Spurs with 22 point a game. He came off the bench after returning from a broken hand.

Tim Duncan said that he has no indication about what Tony will do. But we'll just have to wait and hope Tony would want to stay. Parker said he spoke with Manu about how Manu handled his uncertain future last year, and he also had the great conversation with coach Popovich, though he declined to elaborate the conversation.

Parker says he's already made up his mind.

"I've said that plenty of times," Parker said about expressing his preference to stay in San Antonio. "But nobody listens to me. They don't care. They just want to create stories. It sells better."

Allen Iverson might be considering to play in China. All throughout summer, not a single NBA team has contacted Iverson with any interest.

Gary Moore, AI's personal manager, said Allen Iverson and a team from China have mutual interest to work out a deal. The team's name and other details are still vague for Moore as of the moment.

Iverson's career in the NBA had been remarkable. He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the 1st overall pick in 1996 NBA Draft. He proved that he was the best in the draft class, he was named NBA Rookie of the year in 1996-1997 season. He played in Philadelphia for 10 years. With those years, Iverson dominated NBA in scoring during 1998-1999, 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2004-2005 seasons. Iverson also played for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies before returning to Philadelphia for part of 2009-2010 season. He is an 11-time NBA All-Star with 2 All-Star MVP Awards in 2001 and 2005. He also received the MVP award in 2001, the greatest achievement in his career.

Allen Iverson had been a global superstar in his prime. His jerseys and sneakers were the top-selling items in the stores globally at that time. Though his scoring dipped, his supporters never waned. In fact, he was still voted as an Eastern Conference All-Star starter last season.

The 14-year veteran was hobbled by an arthritic left knee and constantly needing it drained last season. He was famously clashed with his previous coaches but last season, he returned in Philly humbled, reserved and has accepted to be a team player. He left Philly last season because of family issues.

Iverson will most likely be seeing a familiar face of a former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury, also been discarded by NBA. He last finished an NBA season with Boston Celtics in 2008-2009 and had to move to China. Marbury played last season for Shanxi Zhongyu in the Chinese Basketball Association.
