Creative Crafting magazine began in August/September 2009 when a group of crafting friends on the Creative Connections Crafters Network decided that it would be a good idea to raise awareness of the Crafting Community. From this point they started work and the first issue of creative crafting was published in October 2009. You can find this issue on our back issues page. Well, if I wanted to learn just about anything on my enormous list then Betterfly would be a good place to start.

Betterfly is a website that, according to them, helps you "Be Better. At Anything."

Betterfly is the free and easy way to find the best people - not companies - to help you learn, look and feel better.

When you're looking for someone to whip you into shape, push back your cuticles, or teach you how to handle a knife (in the kitchen!), Betterfly matches you with the best person for you. It's that simple. Because nobody's perfect.

We all have a talent to offer. You might already be a dance teacher, speech coach, hairstylist, or SAT tutor. Or you might be really good at something and want to earn some moola doing that thing you do. Betterfly gives you the free resources to easily create your own page and connect to the people looking for you.

So, if you're an arts & crafts teacher or service provider (like a hairstylist or barber) Betterfly provides you with the ability to attract more customers by becoming a "Betterist." And, if you're someone looking to find someone who could teach you something (like knitting or sewing, or how to draw, etc.) then Betterfly can help match you up with someone in your area who can do that.

And, they go one step further. Not only can you search for "Betterists" by criteria but you can book appointments, read reviews of their services, and check when they may or may not be available.

Each of the "Betterists" can create a mini "Betterist Site" website that contains 6 tab pages: an overview tab that tells perspective clients about themselves, a services tab that tells what they have to offer, an availability tab which provides a calendar of when they are available and allows prospective clients to book an appointment, a qualification & reviews tab which lists their education and experience as well as reviews of their services by clients, a resources tab where you can add a photo or a document or a video or an audio file, and a blog tab where the "Betterist" can create blog posts.

Clients or users of the Betterfly website also have a personal profile page where they can write reviews of the "Betterists" and list their goals, interests, activity partners, and their Betterists.

There is also a dashboard that tracks messages, notifications, and account settings. It also contains information for the Betterist on their appointments, earnings, clients, analytics, marketing tools, and their booking & payment settings. For the clients the personal profile section of the dashboard tracks appointments (upcoming and past), transactions (current, past, and Betterfly Buck), interests and activity partners.

Clients or users can pay for the services they want through Betterfly and Betterists can specify whether or not they will allow users to pay them through Betterfly. According to Betterfly: The client who is booking the appointment pays no fee at all, other than the cost of your appointment, of course. The Betterist accepting payment pays gets charged a 5% fee on all money received online. So if you get paid $50 for your piano lesson, Betterfly will put $47.50 into your account. We call money received online for an appointment Earnings. The 5% is a small fee that helps Betterfly cover some of its costs, such as credit card processing fees.

Betterists do have some control over who can book them and pay for their services through Betterfly. According to Betterfly: Betterfly has created a number of cool features to put you in control. One option allows you to limit online booking and payment to just Clients you’ve already worked with. Another feature allows you to set a cancellation policy whereby anyone who books you online must pay you in advance and loses 100% of the service cost if he cancels- and there are many more options for you to discover.

For the clients or users who are booking different "Betterists" services being able to pay through the Betterfly website is very convenient. For the "Betterist" having the Betterfly website handle the payment process is also very convenient.

One of the ways to pay is through Betterfly Bucks which clients or users can use. According to Betterfly: Betterfly Bucks are currency used on Betterfly to do everything from paying for appointments with Betterists who accept them to giving gifts to friends. The only type of Betterfly Bucks that can be redeemed for money are Betterfly Bucks that have been Earned.

If you are teacher or a personal services provider (like a hairdresser, etc.) then Betterfly is a very interesting concept. When you think about all the different areas for learning and all the different personal services there are then the possibilities for matching consumers with the right "Betterist" become endless.

However, you don't just have to be a professional service provider or a teacher. Betterfly could as easily be used by students seeking another student as a tutor and vice versa. Someone to help them become just a little bit better at something they want to learn.

Right now most of the application seems to be matching users with Betterists in their area. However, I don't see why it couldn't also be applied to e-classes, especially e-classes where the instructor is available for chats at specified days and hours.

Expanding this concept to include e-classes would considerably widen the playing field. Think of all the possibilities for learning something from the best person in their field despite where they are located. The application of e-classes would truly expand matching the right user with the right Betterist - no matter where they are located in the world.

Betterfly is an interesting concept not only for arts & crafts teachers but for anyone who has a teachable skill.

There is just so much going on over at the Everything E-Directory lately. We've been adding and changing things around all in an effort to make it easier for everyone to find what they're looking for.

Well, one of those changes was to create a separate category for all the wonderful "Artist E-Galleries" there are. So, we added "Artist E-Galleries" to our "E-Catalogs" category in an effort to highlight the e-gallery websites of so many outstanding artists.

I've Been Playing, Again! This Time With A Personalized Card Website

If you're a reader of my Linda's Blog and have been following me and all my blogs (yes, I do have a few! LOL LOL) you are well aware that I love to play and experiment. Especially when it comes to interactive websites.

Well, on November 2nd I received an email from Krystal at Cardstore.com (http://www.cardstore.com) asking me if I'd like to review their website and products. It seems she had seen my blog post about the fall decorations I had created and thought I might appreciate trying a card website where you basically get to build beautiful and personalized greeting cards.

So, given my love of playing I thought I'd try it out. Plus, she not only offered me a credit towards my first purchase, but - and here's the best part - she offered all my blog readers a 20% off your first purchase discount.

So, I get to play and you get a 20% off discount. How great is that? To get your 20% off discount all you have to do is enter CSHOLIDAY20 as a promotion code when you are checking out. The promotion code box is at the bottom of one of the checkout screens. You enter the code and follow the prompts to apply it. Once you apply it you'll see that it has updated your order summary box in the upper left hand corner.

Well, the other day, I decided to play and try out their website. I have to tell you that this took me awhile, not because the website was hard to maneuver. To the contrary it was very easy to maneuver. It took awhile because they have hundreds - no, make that thousands, of cards for every occasion, every holiday, and just about anything else you might want to send a card for.

You can choose from some of their designs and just add one of your photo's, or choose one of their designs and add your own words, or choose one of their designs and add both a photo and your words. The words you add can be short or multiple paragraphs depending on the format you choose. There are six different formats for personalizing your card depending upon where you want your photo and words to appear.

Plus, for everyone who has a hectic schedule and very little time (like me) you can have your return address printed on your envelopes for no extra charge. That's a great time saver and deal all by itself. However, the best time saver is you can create an address book in your account and then they will print the addresses on your envelopes for you. They'll even add stamps for you or better yet - they'll mail your cards for you (once you've paid for the stamps in the checkout process). For everyone with busy schedules that's a terrific option.

I decided to create some holiday cards in a couple of different versions and to create some holiday gift tags. I didn't have time to create an address book so I could have them printed on my envelopes, but I'm going to do that during the year so next Christmas I'll be in terrific shape.

What's also great about this website is they also offer a volume discount for ordering multiple cards. So, you can personalize just one card or create multiple cards. Plus, you can save your designs in your account and return to them to edit or order them on your own schedule.

I created, personalized, and saved some business thank you cards and birthday cards in my account that I may order sometime in the future. After you have saved your cards you can then go back and edit them and/or add them to you cart when you're ready to order. I did notice that from time to time when I went back to add my saved cards to my order that they didn't always show the picture I had chosen in the preview process. This only happened with the saved cards and not ones that are created and added to the checkout process initially or when you go back to edit a card from your cart. I'm not sure if this was due to the browser I was using (Google Chrome) or just a snag in their saved card process. In any event it was no big deal to go back and add the picture again or just go back to my cart and chose the edit link before checking out.

For those of you that are designers you can submit designs to them for their consideration. Plus if you want to become an affiliate of Cardstore.com they also offer an affiliate program with Commission Junction.

I found Cardstore.com to be very easy to use and was pleased with the large variety of their design selections. They have photo cards for every occasion and event, invitations, thank you cards, birthday cards, everyday cards, encouragement cards, humorous cards, friendship cards, get well cards, sympathy cards, anniversary cards, congratulations cards, moving announcements, wedding cards, graduation cards, flat cards, folded cards, business cards, and even stationary. With all that to choose from I hope you can understand why it took me awhile to peruse thru their website.

So, I decided to order some Christmas cards and did so the other day. I'll let you know how they turn out.

What Are E......????? - All Those "Social" Websites? Who Are They?

If you are a reader of my "Linda's Blog", my "Tips For Crafters On The Web" blog, and my "Everything E-Directory" you know that I LOVE researching and I LOVE lists.

Well, a few weeks ago I decided to do some research on "social" websites. As you know, tht Internet is constantly changing and what may have been in a few years, months, or even days ago might not be in now. One thing that does seem to be gaining in popularity is all the social networking services, social news sharing services, social cataloging services, social shopping websites, and social bookmarking services websites.

While they are all just a little different what they do have in common is they are basically social media type websites where you can interact with them and contribute to them in a various number of ways, either by joining their community, suggesting URL's and anything else you might like to them, sharing your lists, sharing your likes and dislikes, rating various items, commenting on various things, blogging, sharing photo's or video's, sharing news stories, interacting in their forums with people who share similar interests, or buying products.

If you're unfamiliar with the terms social media, social bookmarking, social networking, social cataloging, social shopping, social news sharing, or social network aggregator here's what they mean:

a) Social media are interactive websites and tools that use the internet to communicate and share information either using: text, audio, video, images, podcasts, blogs, forums, and other means of communicating. Also known as user-generated content (UGC) websites.

b) Social bookmarking websites allow users to share, manage, search, and organize bookmarks of their favorite URL's. Sometimes they contain descriptions, comments, tags, keywords, and votes for or against. Sometimes the bookmarks are public or they have your restrictions on who may see your bookmarks. They may or may not have web feed capabilities, and other social networking features like groups, email capabilities, etc.

c) Social networking websites are usually groups of people who share common interests or activities. Usually they contain individual users profiles, social website links, email or instant messaging capabilities, blog capabilities, photo storage capabilities, etc. Usually there is a sharing of ideas, activities, events, and interests by each user. The focus is individual versus forums which would have a group focus. The social network's niche might be old friends, classmates, books read, music liked, interests, services offered, and more.

d) Social cataloging websites help users to catalog and share things owned or of interest to them, like: books, CDs, DVD's, etc.

e) Social shopping is basically shopping over the Internet in a social networking and information sharing setting.

f) Social News sharing services are websites where you can submit and share a news story and have the users of that website vote on it. Social news sharing websites may also be aggregator type news sites that gather and catalog articles by interest and then provide an RSS feed for those interests.

f) Social Network Aggregators are tools and services that collect all the information from multiple social networking services and gather it in one place for you.

The various social bookmarking, social networking, social news, social shopping and social cataloging websites are always evolving - even to the extent that it's difficult to tell some of them apart. For sure - there are many of them, with many more to come as the trend towards connecting, communicating, and selling over the Internet continues to gain in popularity.

For sure, you see the buttons to share this URL, page, comment, or blog post on the various toolbars, blogs, websites, and social networking clubs. But, who are all these social networking services, social news sharing services, social cataloging, social shopping, and social bookmarking service websites?
