Okay so on July 4th my baby girl turned 17! This has been tough to accept. I mean…it’s exciting but the reality that she will be a senior in just a week and half from today is mind-blowing. I honestly can’t quite wrap my mind around it. I know I need to like…yesterday. It’s just so hard. This girl is willful and strong. She is ridiculously smart and oh.my.gosh beautiful. Here are just a few photos of her birthday! Lots of selfies and fun!

Eight. Eight years old! I couldn’t believe it when the day came and I still can’t truly believe it. I have to stop and think about it. Yes indeed, time has gone rather quickly. It certainly is bittersweet. Here are a some photos that highlight the big day!

Celebrating Brayden’s 7th Birthday!

It was so much enjoying friends and family at Bounce U! Brayden had a wonderful time playing, jumping, running, in both the jump room and the white-light/glow in the dark jump room! It was certainly an exciting time for him and all his friends!

This year I really stepped back from all the cutesy details (it was really hard for me). It was still pretty cute, but I have to be honest, I LOVED the low maintenance of it all! More importantly B had an amazing time...all the same! ….that’s what is important!

Memories of the DR

Reflecting on 2013 as the year’s end is near, our vacation is an event that comes to mind first!

Having visited Punta Cana this past summer, was definitely one of the best family vacations we’ve had! It was truly a tropical paradise. We enjoyed each other, toasted our bodies while relaxing on the beautiful-white beach. We spent 6 nights and 7 days in the Caribbean, in gorgeous Punta Cana.

Our Resort, Dreams Palm Beach

I absolutely loved this view as I walked back from breakfast to the pool or beach. Like in Jamaica, I was an early riser and some days I would beat the rest of the family to breakfast. I’d save a great spot on the beach. I enjoyed my morning coffee in silence. It was peaceful and appreciated.

We were so happy to be there after the 40 minute bus ride from the airport!

Once we were settled in, we went straight to the beach to get yummy burgers and fries, from The Grill!

You know me, always including the yummy food. This was at the Coco Cafe. This shop had the BEST hot chocolate and sweet treats at all times of the day. I would start my day with a tropical cafe latte and end it with a hot chocolate. It was perfect! Needless to say, an over abundance of calories were consumed on this trip!

The beach is gorgeous and it was the absolute best place to relax.

I’m officially ready to go back. NOW!

The one thing that was a huge plus about our resort is that they had a variety of restaurants to enjoy. They had Italian, Hibachi, Seafood (restaurant on the beach), Mexican, Chinese, and of course their regular cafe and The Grill (burgers, fries, grilled, cheese and hot dogs). A couple of the days they had shrimp jambalaya they made on the beach. They would set up fresh cut fruit stands too! It was refreshing and yummy!

At night after dinner, we would sit at the one of the outside bars and visit as we listened to music. The temperature was pleasantly warm but, not humid. We especially loved these porch swings.

Out on a snorkeling adventure, we went! Brayden was able to go this time!!!

Nealy and I had a mother/daughter massage in the beautiful Dreams Spa Pevonia. It was wonderful and so ever relaxing. We booked an evening time so we could go back to the room and get ready for bed after being so relaxed.

I can’t wait to return to Punta Cana. This was certainly a trip to remember. Loved it!

A LegoLand Birthday!

On Brayden’s true birthday, June 26th a special delivery arrived for him…..custom MindCraft Legos!!

He had such a fun-wonderful 6th birthday party! Check out his little invite!

LegoLand was a blast. We started off with build our very own Lego creation (a spin top), and then we ate pizza, had birthday cake, took a tour to learn how Legos are made. We also free-played on multilevel play structures, rode rides and looked at many Lego exhibits. It was so great! I know our six year old had a grand time as did all his friends and family.

I know we will certainly be back to LegoLand before long. There is SOOOOOOOOOOO much to do and so much to see and experience. LOVED it.

My booga boo, happy birthday to the sweetest-most lovable boy in town! I love that you call me, “love” and consider my feelings. You have taught me to embrace differences, and seek truth in times of uncertainty. You are and will forever be MY “love.” Mommy is so proud of the young boy you have become. Love you always, Mommee!

Our Graduate….Pre K 2013

This school year has passed in a blink of an eye. It has been a different kind of year for our family…or should I say me? I have been busy, yet I can’t really tell you what I have “taken on” that’s new. Nothing really. I have been a busy bee working and focusing on career oriented goals. I made it a ~~big~~…HUGE goal to spend more quality time – enjoying the days…moments, with my family. I have gained appreciation, (true value) of what each member offers to my sweet family of four. So, there you have it, in a nutshell. Thus, my lack of blogging this school year. Don’t get me wrong, I love to express and document the happenings. I’ll do more of it this summer, on my free time. SO……………………

we have a pre-k graduate, class of 2013! We are all so proud! He has certainly had a year of learning, developing, growing, and maturing. Graduation was in May and as my momma was in the hospital (happy to report, she is out and doing so well), It was busy and maybe a little trying…this month of May. Not to mention, the end OUR school year coming to an end. The England’s survived and most excitedly celebrated the youngest member’s special milestone… GRADUATION!

Welcome Spring 2013

We have done nothing but relax and take it easy this spring break. Trust me, we welcomed the needed rest!

6 month teeth cleaning…the kids and me.

while Nealy was here (lake) with her bestie. I have to steal pics off her Insta. Teenagers! She attended a 3 day clinic at CA too but, I was having a hard time uploading videos of her tumbling.

So….back to the Big Cats! B was a little nervous and lately he doesn’t like posing for photos. What gives? Anyway, this lasted just a few minutes and he LOVED the sanctuary!

Wow! Isn’t he gorgeous? I thought so too. And, maybe, just maybe, he was crushing on me OR hating on me….(you’ll see…)

And…..Sadness! This beautiful creature sprayed me! The feeder warned me with, “He’s going to spray!” I only had time to stand up quickly from my squatting position. I’m telling you right now, I was all “up” in this cat’s business with my camera. THANK GOODNESS my “skills” allowed me to move swiftly. Otherwise, I just might have gotten sprayed in the face. Now that, would have been more than just sadness!

Memories are a way of holding special moments and events in our hearts. Our Christmas 2012 is one I won’t forget. We enjoyed our family and friends all season long. As I chose to live more in the moment and let all of our blessings “sink in” and allow myself to “feel”….the truth is, I didn’t run around like a mad women snapping and snapping photos this year. I took a few and certainly used my phone to capture the season’s chaos and joy. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones!

Advent Day 12 – Grinch Family Night!

This night was originally planned for advent day 9 but, I can’t even tell you how busy I have been with photo shoots and card making….crazy busy doesn’t even explain it. I do admit, I am blessed to be busy but, I certainly cannot ignore our planned family advent activities. As I mentioned in the previous post, flexibility is key and what allows us to continue to participate in the planned events AND enjoy them. What a fun and yummy Grinch Night!

All four of us jumped into our king size bed, watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas, snacked on buttery popcorn and enjoyed a sweet - cold glass of Grinch Punch!

Sleigh Bells Ring…our advent calendar

Last Christmas, I made a promise to myself I would create a personalized advent calendar for my family. I did just that! In January I researched and researched advent calendars. I found so many cute ones. Display space, personalization, and storage were main considerations I had. I wanted something that I could customize year to year as my children grow, and new ideas come to mind. I like having some flexibility too. After much researching, thinking and planning I found a simple/rustic/iron display advent calendar at Pottery Barn. It’s perfect for our family. All my considerations approved! So, what I did, is give each of us a day (to pick the activity). Actually, Scott and I share a day. I looked at a real calendar to see on what days we were flexible to do a little more. I also wanted most of the activities to be cost efficient as well as meaningful. I included, simple bible verses for the kids to learn, holiday books for busy week nights, a random act of kindness day, and some good ole Christmas traditions. All activities include whole family involvement. I made the cards myself and kept the file to edit next year. They came out the perfect size! I embellished with a couple of bells etc. As expected, I even had to move some activities around as the month of December started…I love that it’s that flexible. What do you think?

What a memorable day we had. B rode his very first roller coaster….and it was pretty scary. He did so well. Nealy enjoyed the VERY scary rides. Scott enjoyed our family quality time. We ALL enjoyed the yummy food and the festivities.

Halloween!

This is a card B made for Gran-daddy. We’ve been unbelievably busy and so much has happened in the months of October and November. Scott’s dad was in the hospital for over a month. An initial scheduled heart surgery was ALL we thought he was going in for. There were several setbacks…but, I am so happy to announce that he came home the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. We are a blessed family and look forward to his recovery. For those of you have supported us and prayed for Scott’s dad…we LOVE you and thank you!

Brayden’s Thanksgiving Feast and Program

This was so special because during these trying months, we weren’t sure we were going to be able to keep B in school. With Scott’s mom taking and picking him up every day being needed….and well with Scott’s dad in the hospital, she understandably couldn’t continue to do it. We are so blessed that his school was willing to work with us, support, and pray for our family. We are thankful to family members who helped along the way get B to and from school the last several weeks. Watching him perform at his little program (as a pilgrim this year), was heart warming and special. We all took off school that day to go watch and feast…and more importantly thank God!

Fall Happenings!

It has a been a busy couple of months. We started school and fall was here before we knew it! Lot’s of fast and furious fun! Here are a few things that have happened in our family of four.

Cousins, Carson and Dylan’s Birthday Parties

Dylan loves Thomas the Train so he had a train pulled by a John Deere tractor, that we took little rides in. It was so cute. Dylan turned 3!

Carson had a hunting themed birthday again. He loves the sport. Both parties were at the same time so it was double the fun, for sure. Carson turned 8!

Very First Freshman/Sophomore Homecoming

They went in a huge group. These are the pics I got bc I was so sick this week. I managed to get to the first place to snap a few and then just head straight back home to get in bed.

Lauren, Nealy, and Breanna got ready together. I think they look beautiful and they are really such sweet girls. I can’t believe my little girl is growing up so fast.

Brayden is on the Cheetahs and has many of the same players who were on the Sharks too. Daddy, is the coach! I love sitting out there now that the weather is cool in the mornings watching the Cheetahs play. Although, B isn’t super focused…still, he has gotten much better. We are so proud!

Simply Summer Three

This summer Brayden and I went to the library together. Halfway through the summer we realized there was a little reading program to participate in. Yay! This was a great motivation to read every night. Brayden loved to pick colors for his stars. He would want me to color them in. For a while (3/4 of the first log) he remembered every title of the books (in order) we had read. It was super cute. As time went on, he lost track but, nonetheless, it continued to motivate him. I consider this a great opportunity to further bond and share a “little something” special….just he and I.

So, when it’s 100+ degrees outside, I tend to have brain lapses. High temperatures suck the energy right out of me too. Not thinking quickly enough, I managed to take my camera out of my bag and (no time to focus) took this pic:

LOVE how brave he was to walk up, turn in his reading logs all by himself. He said, “I’m done reading!”

He had a total of 43 stars! This Tough Wheels was 100 stars. Ha! After the young boy explained how many stars earned what prizes. Brayden immediately points to the top of the prize pyramid and says, “I would like the truck please.”….Oh no! I jumped in ready to explain again, but was cut off by the kind boy who said, “Sure, why not? looks like you did a lot of reading and since you are only 5, I will give it to you!” So SWEET!

Simply Summer Two

Simple summer outings are my favorite. Especially with my little man. I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed not working this summer. I might just be a little too comfortable spending time at home and having sweet simplicity moments with my family! This particular date was my other main man and me. What a relaxing way to start our day!

He’s FIVE!

This year, I decided to have a baking birthday party as he likes to help in the kitchen, LOVES pizza, and it was a something hands-on all the kids could enjoy! Here is the little invite:

Our little guy and all friends had a great time learning how to make their own pizza a pull-apart cinnamon bread. We had two college girls (sisters), run the party and I have to say they did an excellent job of keeping all the kids engaged and gave very good child leveled instruction. I was so impressed with how they asked questions first and let the kids predict. The kids were excited, calm and (though, I am usually a teensy stressed when it comes to planning parties), I was not the tiniest bit stressed at this one! I was actually feeling elated and relaxed at the same time. More importantly, Brayden and all his little friends had a super time! Everything went smooth and it seemed to go quickly.

Bitter sweet to see your baby boy celebrate his 5th birthday, I must say. I seriously kept thinking, he is now a little boy, no longer a baby or toddler. It makes me feel a little sad, yet know it’s inevitable. I am very comforted that I have a general idea of what to except as he grows and develops (only bc I have a teenager). However, I look forward to “unknowns” and making plans for his future. How blessed we are to have such a little man so kind and loving. Happy Birthday to MY baby boy!

simply summer one

As we do various activities in the summer (and I am certain I will post about some of the others too), I am calling our family summer walks: one. It’s one of the simple things that I love so much. There is something special about randomly going on a walk as a family. During the school year, we are usually swamped due to our schedules and too tired after work. SO, needless to say, here are snaps of one of those walks I cherish like crazy.

First, let me introduce our newest family member, Joey! He is certainly post worthy. I am compiling some sweet snaps to honor him (coming soon).

This is on the way to an old pond in our neighborhood. We think the newly laid trail might have been a Boy Scout project. The grass has been cut down. Brayden likes to throw horse apples in. It makes for a quick walk, yet gives us some time to explore a little bit of nature too!

On April 27th, in the evening, Brayden had his spring program. I can’t tell you how adorable it was. I sadly didn’t get pictures worth posting as the ones in the sanctuary ended up a bit blurry. However, the memories and few decent photos I did get will certainly last a life time. I’m sharing a few!…such fun! The theme of lions, tigers, and bears OH! my!…was most appropriate. The little ones made their little animal visors and sang the sweetest songs:

This little program just made me “thirsty” for more. We celebrated Brayden’s first year at school in pre-k. Both grandmas were in attendance, as were Grand-dad, and Aunt Pia! Of course, Nealy, Scott and I were there. Duh? :) Seriously, what a wonderful night it was!!!!

One Bean

This book by, Anne Rockwell is a great way to introduce the plant life cycle to children. One Bean is one of the books I purchased in Brayden’s Scholastic Book Order. He actually picked it out. It was perfect for a little experiment too!

We followed the little steps in the story so (hopefully) B would end up with his very own Bean Plant!

We found an old pot & plate, some soil, and we placed the little potted bean in direct sunlight after watering it. We checked on it every day. After about 4 days…

LOOK! The bean started to sprout! Brayden was super excited, he came running to tell me as soon as I arrived home from work one day.

Soon, we had a lovely little bean plant. In a week or so, we may very well plant it outside. What fun it was to read and reread One Bean and actually have B plant his very own bean. I would totally recommend, One Bean for little ones taking an interest in nature or just a sweet read about the steps of the plant life cycle told in story form.

Easter Egg-citement!

In preparation for B’s Easter party at school, I found a “bunny hoppin” cute idea…of course on Pinterest!

I can’t even tell you how egg-cited B was to give these to his friends. He loved the idea and told me Cheetos were his class’ favorite….score!

I added a cute little tag and ta-da! …some serious carrot cuteness!

B leads our prayer at home before meals and almost every time, I get a little lump in my throat. To see 11 little ones pray so sweet and accurately was simply heart-warming.

The class made these precious little Easter Bunny bags for their egg hunt.

This is the class (B is hiding behind Mrs. York), listening to directions before hunting for eggs. Each student was assigned a number that was written on the bottom of his/her bag. Parents sent in eggs numbered 1-13 (number of students in the class). It was a really cute idea and it ensured that each child get the same number of eggs total. Two friends were absent so Mrs. York collected their eggs. ANYWAY, it was so dang cute to see all the kids running around hunting for eggs!

Yep, that’s Nealy. I sure did take her out of school to attend this special time with B. Scott recently attended Dad and Donuts Day, so he wasn’t able to make it this day.

So super proud of this picture! I know he will outgrow me some day and this photo (though, I’m kneeling and he’s standing) gives me a little “visual” of what a photo in future of us might look like. …lump in my throat again.

B had a variety of stickers to put on his dyed hard-boiled egg. He chose one. …a soccer ball. Fitting!

What a wonderful afternoon! It certainly was a great start to get us excited about Easter. Along with the egg-citement and fun, I was able to observe my little guy in a structured learning environment! He was calm (trust me, isn’t always), obedient, sweet, and social. I was content, proud, and know we are one blessed family!

Happy Happy Birthday to my beautiful – ever so loving, Momma! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I learn from my mom. She didn’t have a formal education, nor did she grow up with many opportunities to lead and experience. She is a Godly lady, so sweet and tender. She can be a little “clueless” sometimes. My sister and I tease her a lot…in a loving way. (I have tears of laughter and love filling my eyes just thinking of the funny times with her).

From my mom, I have learned…

1. values and morals hold a key in ways to serve God and others.

2. to be kind to others, despite how they may treat me.

3. to be humble yet, proud of what I have accomplished, what I stand for, and challenges I have overcome.

4. to gift smiles, belly laughs and grace to people who pass judgment on me or say negative things about me.

5. having empathy, understanding, compassion, integrity, reason, respect, responsibility and bravery are key to living a balanced and productive life.

AND, she has also taught me…

1. a polished and finished look is important. Why? It is the “front cover” to what qualities and habits one encompasses.

2. make-up and accessories are absolutes, if they help me (no one else) feel better.

3. skin care is just as important as NOT sleeping with make-up on.

4. keeping a super clean and super tidy home is impossible unless she lives in it. NOT kidding.

5. it is totally okay to be picky and detailed, only if I don’t require or expect it of other people.

6. it is never okay to lie, but I don’t necessarily have to share everything I purchase (while shopping) with my hubby:). Men aren’t interested anyway…right?

These are just a few of the many things (some important and valued, and some silly and random) I have learned from my mom. I hope to be the best mom I can be, just like she was to me and my siblings! I am so blessed to have had her keep Nealy full time until the age of 3 years, and share the time (with Scott’s mom) keeping Brayden until the age of 4 years. Blessed because I know she has passed along her love of life and sweet innocent spirit to my babies. I love you mom!….WE love you mom.

Time got away from me and I didn’t get all the photos I wanted but, reflecting on the day, I am happy we utilized the time talking, sharing, remembering, and CELEBRATING my mom.

Easter Chicks

This is a little project I made this afternoon. I found this idea on Pinterest. I thought it was so cute. I’m sorry I don’t have the direct link. Well, all you need is scrap paper and craft paint. It looks like the ones below are on painted canvas. I chose to use scrap paper and frames. I guess I am thinking it will be easier to keep them protected and easier to store them. I also used my babes’ fingers instead of their whole hand (just preference). I included my little ones’ names and year (didn’t want to forget the year…later on, once they are older). Anyway, I used heavily textured cardstock for the eyes and the beak. I think it gives it a hint of dimension. The turquoise backing has a shimmer. Oh, and the colors are pretty bright, but not too bright. I took my pictures in “lamp lighting” instead of natural light. I have to say, I really like them…a lot. I am toning down my color palette for most of my Easter decorations and these fit in perfectly!

So, this has been a week of relaxation as it has been our spring break. We’ve done a whole lot of nothing but, enjoy each other. Wednesday B and I enjoyed the cool breeze and got a little fresh air as we walked to the park. It was a gorgeous day. Before we left he reminded me he was going to “call” for a bigfoot. (He loves the show with the four single-minded researchers, Finding Bigfoot. It’s on Animal Planet, which is one of his very favorite channels). Anyway, I was so grateful for the time and nice weather to spend doing one of my favorite things…spending some one-on-one time with my number one boy. I so HEART the conversations we have. He was telling me how we must look for evidence (yeah, he said that word) in the grass and wooded areas. He also said, I shouldn’t be scared because if we happen to see an elusive sasquatch (yes, he said both those words too), it would be scared of us. I felt safe with my little guy;).

He has the BEST bigfoot call around!!! In the 2nd photo below he is sounding the distinctive call. LOVE it!

These are two little guys B played with (while on a break from searching). They played a rhyming game as they ran around randomly. They also played tag. Both boys were older and bigger than B, and yet the oldest was so sweet to play fair and cut B a few “breaks” on tag. It was fun to watch them interact and just “chill” together.

What an ever so sweet time I had with my little guy! I wish spring break could be forever!
