So I have this friend Zach. I would hopefully be dating him if we were gay but unfortunately we're not. Anyway he very kindly recently gave me some mad internet props. CMJ asked him what was going on in Christchurch so he wrote this pretty hilarious article. He also whored me some more on his own blog.

Pictured is us slamming out some power chords together in Ben's room. Thanks for the photo Caitlin.

Reviews!

2011-08-03T19:12:00.000-07:00

The music I released got a couple of reviews, which I am very happy about. Thank you to EMJ and God for taking the time to listen to my music and write about it.

Birthday Music Releases

2011-07-31T01:19:00.000-07:00

SO! I've been neglecting this blog but I never said I would be good at it.

But it was my birthday yesterday so I released an album and an e.p!

The album is melancholy synth pop done with two Gameboys, a floor tom and vocals. For the album I go by the moniker A art and the album is self-titled. It is free on my bandcamp and you can say hi to me on farcebook if you like. Below is the album art I made.

The e.p I released is a sequel to my first ever chip music release and is titled "Another Unlikely Hero: II". It is all done with a single Gameboy as I was attempting to expand my knowledge and skill using the Gameboy music tracker LSDJ. It was released on the new and prolific label known as Pxl-Bot, which I was really happy about. The guys at Pxl-Bot are awesome dudes and there have been some great releases on there so I am proud to be up there with them. My moniker for this is my usual chip name which is FuturNari. Below is the album art I made for it.

Thanks for reading/listening!

ScotDrakula

2011-06-19T05:52:00.000-07:00

I am ScotDrakula.
So are my friends Matt and Ev.
We sound like THIS.
You can download our music free of charge!

I would like to embed the bandcamp player here but I don't know how.

Something New

2011-06-14T22:14:00.000-07:00

Here's me trying something new on my Gameboy.

Good times?

Plus I made a new avatar.

Music Video

2011-06-08T20:55:00.000-07:00

My friend T'Nealle made a music video for one of my FuturNari songs from my last e.p.
She ate too many Jelly Beans and was in a creative mood. I really like it! Thanks T'Nizz!

Next Chip Project

2011-05-31T01:33:00.000-07:00

My next chip project will be ambient down tempo pop. I've recorded demos of about seven songs and am maybe going to get some female vocals on them as well as my vocals. Im excited about it!

I'm using gameboys and a Korg Monotron which applies MS-20 like filters to one of the Gameboys.

Here's a picture of me writing music by the (gas) fire:

I will hopefully also use a floor tom for extra fun.
I would post a link to some of the music but it's not done yet but check back for more information. In the mean time see the previous post for my instrumental chip music.

Futurnari

2011-05-26T22:45:00.000-07:00

I make chip music under the name Futurnari.

Chip music is music made on or for vintage game consoles. Many of which are 8bit.

Futurnari is a word that isn't actually a word which means; "a futuristic hermaphrodite"

I've released three e.ps since I was introduced to chip music and here they are. My last e.p "DNA Computing" was written for the ym2612 soundchip in the Sega Megadrive. I am hoping to do an album version of this in the future but it will require a lot of work.

Recently I've been trying to make the software required to write Megadrive music run on my Mac (Yep) and it's been a fun nightmare. I get to use command line though which makes me feel like a pro.

Just look!

I think I actually have it mainly working apart from the gui of TFMaker being a bit fucked. The hex editor runs like a dream and the .bin converter took a while but I got that working too thanks to the writer Michael Stampler.

SOFTWARE IS FUN

Noo Zulund Music Month

2011-05-04T20:31:00.000-07:00

It's New Zealand Music Month!

A lot of New Zealand musicians say New Zealand music is shit but I don't think they realise that music in every country is shit.
Music in every country is also good sometimes though!
Here are some recent releases by New Zealand bands that I really enjoy and are

FOR FREEZ

The Fever Fold by Red Steers

Glass EP by Glass Vaults

The Eversons E.P. by The Eversons

This e.p below is from Australia but I love it and you may have missed out on it by not being subscribed to the best music blog in New Zealand.

RITES WILD E.P by RITES WILD

New Zealand musicians also whine about the fact that all the music grants go to shitty bands. OH WAIT YOU LIVE IN A COUNTRY THAT GIVES OUT MONEY TO PLAY MUSIC?

Life is pretty hard.

THIS IS MY BLOG

YES IT IS THE SAME AS ALL THOSE OTHER BLOGS

My name is Dove. I will post and/or write about things that I find interesting from a variety of fields. A larger part of this will be music because that is what I do but this is not a music blog, I think there should be less of those on the internet and I want to post other things too.

This picture is some art I did for a friends band when he asked for some people to design him a logo. I think it went really well even though I spelt the name wrong. He did not reply to my email, I still think he liked it though.
