Okay, it took me at least four versions, but I finally came up with my final menu for Thanksgiving. It's mostly the same as last year, except I am going to give a cornbread and chorizo stuffing a try. But since I also love Rach's Apple and Onion Stuffin Muffins, I'll be making those, too! And yes, all the recipes are from Rachael Ray, of course. I am the first to admit I have issues, okay? Here it is:

Kiss of Lemon Roast Turkey

No Fail Gravy (in case the pan gravy doesn't work out)

Apple and Onion Stuffin Muffins (I found this new variation on the recipe this year. It says to mix in an egg before you bake the stuffing in the muffin tins. Rach also has this variation in her new book, My Year in Meals. Every year I have gotten disappointed when the muffins fell apart, but hopefully not this year!)

Cornbread and Chorizo Stuffing (I couldn't find prepared corn bread in my store and I am too lazy to go look somewhere else, so I'll be making my own using this recipe from Martha.)

Buttery Mashed Potatoes (and when they say buttery, they mean it)

Sauteed Green Beans with Toasted Pumpkin Seeds (this one is quick, easy, and yummy)

Caramel Apple-Sweet Potato Casserole

Dinner Rolls (I am making homemade ones using recipes from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day - aren't you proud of me?)

Orchard Fruit Pie - made this last year and I can't wait to eat it again! A guest is bringing Pumpkin pie, too.)

So imagine my excitement when out of the blue I see that Rachael Ray has a new cookbook coming out on November 13th, entitled My Year in Meals. The more I learn about My Year in Meals, the more excited I get. First, according to the cover, there are more than 500 recipes. She's speaking my language, since I still hardly ever make the same thing twice (it drives my family crazy).

Even better, from my perspective, is the amazing look of this one. The product description says it gives "an inside look" into Rachael Ray's kitchen for a full year. These are the meals that Rachael makes for her friends and family, which really personalizes the book. The format only reinforces the personal feel, since it looks like they have torn a page out of Rachael's recipe notebook (she carries a notebook around with her all the time to jot down ideas for her magazine, show, and cookbooks). Check out the format:

There are even calendars for each month:

Here are some of the recipes we can expect: Almond Custard Brioche Toast, Eastern Egg Sandwiches with Bacon, Baby Back Ribs with Bourbon BBQ sauce, Egg Tagliatelle with Truffle Butter, and Butternut Squash Risotto. There's also a "My Year in Drinks" from Rachael's husband John, who offers 100 cocktail recipes, like a Halloween Fizz.

This one looks a little more expensive that Rachael's previous cookbook - it retails for $29.99, but Amazon has My Year in Meals at $19.40 with a pre-order price guarantee.

I love the behind the scenes feeling that it appears this cookbook has. I can't wait to check out the real thing and give you my thoughts on it!

In case you aren't aware of their history, you can read about how often Bourdain has bashed Rachael here.

In all those articles, none said exactly what Rach said that was soooooo good. I finally found a quote from Rachael's roast in Newsday: "I figured I would actually have the easiest time of anyone," said Food Network star -- and longtime victim of Bourdain's verbal lashings -- Rachael Ray. "I don't have to write jokes. I don't have to write insults. If you ask the man of the hour in the hot seat, my mere existence is clearly insult enough."
The show is moving into a fancy new studio and is going HD. The New York Post has a couple pictures of the new studio. Well, to be honest, they have a couple pictures of the fridge. We'll take what we can get, huh?

There was lots of drama about the fact that the show was moving into a studio abandoned by Martha Stewart when her show was cancelled. The rumor was that Rachael had an exorcism done before she moved in. While that would have been pretty funny, Rachael said: "'There was never an exorcism,' Ray says with her trademark laugh — adding in the mock-serious announcer’s voice; 'No sage was burned in the making of this studio.'”

PS - I am a huge fan of Plan to Eat (that's my affiliate link) but realized I am not using their friend feature at all! If you are on Plan to Eat, email me your username to everythingrachaelray at gmail dot com so we can share recipes.

But my excitement is mostly related to my love of a new look and Rachael is getting a whole new studio. Plus, she'll be in HD now, which will be fun. I can't wait to check out the new digs and all the new recipes. Watch a little teaser for the new season here.

And not to be a critic, but I was excited to see all the emphasis on food in the trailer for the new season. When it comes down to it, what I love so much about Rach is her recipes, so the thought of hundreds of new recipes is pretty darn exciting. Will you tune in?

Rachael Ray Chats with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show

Check out Rachael's appearance on The Tonight Show, promoting The Book of Burger:
Rachael Ray fans, you have a major treat in store for you. Rachael Ray's new cookbook, The Book of Burger, will hit bookstores tomorrow on Tuesday, June 5. My two word review: love it.

I am one of those people who cuts the list of "best burgers" out of my local paper and makes an effort to try them all, so burgers are a subject close to my heart. When I cracked open my copy, I kinda freaked out. So many of them appealed to me that I was completely overwhelmed. My picky eating habits are well documented in this space, so a compliment like that from me is high praise.

Let me give you a few of the recipes that stood out:

1. Big Beef Burgers with Crunchy Sour Cream Onion Rings (I'm making this one this week!)

2. Audacious, Herbacious Beef Burgers (That recipe calls for goat cheese, but the one in the cookbook calls for boursin cheese. Boursin in a burger. Yes.)

3. Beef 'N Bean Burrito Burgers (She got my curiosity going on this one - a burger with rice and beans in it?)

4. Burgers with Bacon Bits and Blue (An oldie but a goodie.)

5. Chili Mac and Cheese Burgers (A burger with mac and cheese on it? My kids my burst with excitement.)

6. Chipotle Burgers with Nacho Top (She had me at nacho.)

So six burgers that I can't wait to try and we're only on page 14 of the cookbook. See why I couldn't choose? I ended up settling on the Chipotle Burgers with Nacho Top (my friends once threatened to buy me a nacho cheese machine for my kitchen and I'm sorta sad they were only joking) and 10-Cut Oven Fries. I also tried the Hawaii Burger, which is made with an Asian flavored turkey burger and topped with pineapple. I will let them speak for themselves:

The pictures really don't do them justice, but I can tell you with certainty that both were outstanding. In my defense, it's hard to take pictures with a one year old who likes to stand up in his high chair and throw things at his big sister.... Take note that these aren't quicky burgers that you whip up in a minute, but I think they are, without question, worth the time and effort.

In addition to more beef burger recipes than you can throw a stick at, you'll find recipes for pork burgers, chicken and turkey burgers, lamb burgers, veggie burgers, and seafood burgers. There are also sliders, sandwiches and dogs, sloppies, sides (I've got my eye on you, Homemade Tots) and sauces, and recipes from the Burger Bash that Rachael Ray hosts each year.

When I first heard that Rachael was doing an "all burgers" book, I was pretty skeptical. However, after taking a close look at the book, I think it is much more than that. Yes, there are a million burger recipes, but these are not your average burgers - some are fun, some are out there, and some are about as gourmet as a burger can get.

As a disclaimer, not every recipe in here is new and many of them are available online. However, that can be said for almost all of Rachael's recipes. She doesn't publish them online then yank them a few months later. I still love to buy the cookbooks. Maybe I'm old school, but I love seeing the recipes all in one place, looking at the photography, and flipping through the recipes to plan a weekly menu. There are also lots of cool "smart" features to this book that make it interactive.

So go out tomorrow, get your copy of The Book of Burger, and report back on your favorite burger!

Two Free Downloadable Cookbooks from Every Day with Rachael Ray

Here it is! Rachael Ray's newest cookbook, The Book of Burger, will be released on June 5. The book is described as an ultimate collection, with more than 200 recipes for burgers, sliders, sloppies, fries, and sides.

The images and layout of the book look gorgeous and it's only $12.98 on Amazon if you preorder. Interestingly, the book also includes essays on burger related topics from Pat LaFreida, Adam Perry Lang, Josh Ozersky, and Michael Symon.

This cookbook is Rachael's first "Smart Book." That means it a reader can tap a sticker on the book with a smart phone to get interactive content. You can read more about that here.

The timing couldn't be more perfect with Summer just around the corner.

Rachael Ray is not Letting the Times off the Hook

The New York Times and Rachael Ray are still having a little bit of a disagreement. After the ghostwriter story and Rachael Ray's disagreement with it (where she said she does not use a ghostwriter), the author of the article wrote an update that basically tried to redefine what a ghostwriter is. Well, Rach is still not agreeing. She used her twitter feed yesterday to defend herself again:

I admire Rachael for not just letting it go. If past interviews where she described the process of writing recipes are any indication, she works very hard to create those recipes and deserves the credit.

Ya know, when I saw this story in the New York Times yesterday, I thought it was wrong, but I couldn't be sure. In every interview where she is asked about her recipes, Rachael Ray talks about the notebook she carries around with her to write down recipe ideas. She even has a coded system to remind herself of whether it will go in one of her shows, in the magazine, or in a cookbook. Given that amount of detailed work, what would a ghostwriter do, right? Plus, she's always asked whether she writes her cookbooks, and she always says yes.

Given that consistent stance from Rachael, I would have been really disappointed if it turned out that her cookbooks were ghostwritten. However, Rachael came out strong to defend herself. On her twitter feed and to the media, Rachael Ray is denying that she uses a ghostwriter. She says the chef quoted in the story is a food stylist, not a ghostwriter. All can say is: phew.

Rachael Ray in the News (Martha and SXSW Edition)

Do you think Martha Stewart really gave Rachael Ray the evil eye in a fancy pants NYC restaurant? I'm not so sure, but the press sure is loving the story. What I find interesting is that Rachael Ray's talk show is moving into Martha Stewart's vacated studio (Martha's show was cancelled). Rach's set is so unique already - I wonder what on earth they will do with it now.

In other RR news, Rachael is participating in SXSW in Austin again this year. Billboard has the details on the lineup of this year's show. While that's all well and good, let's get to the really interesting part - Relish Austin has details on this year's menu.

Rachael Ray went on Good Morning America today and shared the recipes for the top three recipes from her talk show's first 1,000 episodes. I have made all of these and agree with their top three status! Make sure you try them:

1. Spinach Artichoke Mac and Cheese
2. Buffalo Chicken Chili (my review)
3. Pretzel Crusted Chicken Breasts with Cheddar Mustard Sauce (my review)

In other show news - Variety says the ratings are up from a year ago, which is great.

It's a Keeper: Chicken and Chorizo Romesco with Spanish Potatoes and Kale

Can you tell we moved? New counter!

Tonight's dinner was Chicken and Chorizo Romesco with Spanish Potatoes and Kale because I just needed a little something different. I have a huge stockpile of chicken in the freezer that I got for dirt cheap (1.89/lb) so chicken and I are quickly getting tired of eachother. This one, however, knocked me right out of that rut. My husband came home and thought it looked like an "exciting" dinner, which it certainly was.

My only complaint with this meal is that it used two skillets and two pans, plus the food processor, a strainer, two cutting boards, and two knifes. I have to say the flavor was worth it.

By the way, I've started using Plan to Eat to plan my meals and shopping list each week and I cannot say enough good things about it. I has literally solved all my meal planning issues! I can upload a recipe and it automatically creates a shopping list for me, which is very customizable, too. Then I drag and drop recipes onto a calendar. I absolutely love it.

Here's the recipe with my comments in brackets:

PREP20 Min
COOK30 Min
TOTAL50 Min [this is allegedly a 30 minute meal, but there is just no way']

Ingredients
1⁄2 cup extra-virgin olive oil, divided
5 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 pounds baby Yukon gold potatoes, halved [I used Russets because it's what I had on hand and I think they were just fine.]
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 bunch kale, stemmed and coarsely chopped [Lacinato Kale came in my fancy Farm Fresh to You basket and it was sooooo good in here.]
1 cup chicken stock
1 cup shredded manchego [No Manchego in my store, so I used cheddar.]
1 to 3 slices stale bread, toasted, cut 1/2-inch dice
1 cup pequillo peppers or roasted red peppers
1 (15-ounce) can fire roasted tomatoes, drained, about 1 1/3 cups
2 tablespoons sherry vinegar [I also could not find sherry vinegar, so I used white wine vinegar.]
1⁄2 cup marcona almonds (Spanish toasted almonds), substitute toasted sliced or peeled almonds if unavailable [Yeah, if there's no sherry vinegar, I am sure you can tell there were no marcona almonds. I toasted some sliced almonds.]
4 pieces boneless skinless chicken breast or thigh meat
2 teaspoons orange zest or lemon zest
1 teaspoon smoked or sweet paprika
A handful flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
3⁄4 pound Spanish chorizo, casings removed, cut into 8 pieces on the bias [The chorizo in my store isn't fully cooked, so I used lingiuca. I also think 1/2 pound would be fine, since there was lots left over.]

Heat about 1/4 to 1/3 cup olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and slowly cook until crisp and golden brown. [For some reason, this took forever, but I was so scared I was going to burn it.]

Place potatoes in a pot and cover with water, bring to a boil, season with salt and cook 15 minutes or until tender, drain and return to hot pot. While the potatoes cook, simmer kale in salted water 10 minutes then drain. When you are ready to serve, mash potatoes with stock and cheese, fold in kale, adjust salt and pepper.

While potatoes come to a boil, move forward with the meal. Add to a food processor: toasted garlic (reserve the oil), some of the toasted bread in pieces, the peppers, tomatoes, sherry vinegar, almonds, and salt and pepper. Turn processor on and stream in reserved "garlic-oil" and add the rest of the toasted bread in pieces until you get a pesto-like consistency. Transfer sauce back to the skillet and keep warm over low heat.

Cut each piece of chicken into 3 chunks and season with citrus zest, smoked sweet paprika, salt, pepper and parsley. Set aside.

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add chorizo and render it 1 minute. Remove the chorizo to a plate and then add chicken and cook 10 to 12 minutes, turning occasionally.

Pour a pool of sauce onto each dinner plate and top with a mound of potatoes and kale and chunks of chicken and chorizo.

Rachael Ray on Good Morning America

Rachael Ray appeared on Good Morning America to promote her new show: Rachael v. According to Broadcasting & Cable, Rachael Ray's talk show has been renewed for two more years. Woot woot! When I saw that Martha Stewart's Hallmark Channel show was being cancelled, I got worried that it was going to be a trend, but there was no need for concern.

A CBS Television Distribution executive, Joe DiSalvo, said: "Rachael Ray has been a solid performer in stations' lineups and has had a recent surge in ratings. We're thrilled to be taking the show through eight seasons."

The show has been on since 2006 and won Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Talk Show in 2008 and 2009. Rachael has been nominated for Outstanding Talk Show host four times.

Rachael Ray Going Digital and a New Cookbook Title Revealed

Rachael Ray made a big move this week - she switched book publishers. Rach published nine books with Random House's Clarkson & Potter (and more before that with Lake Isle Press). She has now made the move to Simon & Schuster's Atria Books. It's a three book deal, so we know at least that many will be coming out in the coming years!

The exciting part about this move for fans is that Rach says that her new cookbooks will be "exciting for people using their Nooks or iPads," according to The Hollywood Reporter. I guess I have to get a Nook or iPad now because I don't want to miss out on the fun. Hold on a second while I go update my birthday wish list. . . . .

Rachael will also have a "Rachael Ray Presents" imprint that she says will allow her to "continue to develop new, emerging talent and help them to bring their content directly to consumers.”

And the even MORE exciting part is that we get the title for her next cookbook, to be published in June: The Book of Burger. It will be accompanied by "10 digital 'quick response' bar codes which readers can swipe on their smart phones to pull up links and videos online."

Rachael is the self proclaimed Queen of Burgers, so this is no surprise. On my wish list of Rachael Ray cookbooks:

1. An entire book of Double Duty/Rollover menus, like this one for Turkey-Stuffin’ Meatloaf With Scallion Mashed Potatoes & Gravy that gets turned into Enchil-Lasagna the next night.

2. An entire book of recipes that will last a month, like this feature in Every Day with Rachael Ray. It's hard to find a month's worth of recipes that aren't filled with cream of chicken soup and ranch seasoning packets.

3. I'd also love a crock pot cookbook, but I haven't seen many of those recipes from Rachael. With two kids, the crock pot and I are becoming good friends, but it's hard to find recipes that aren't full of junk.

What cookbook would you love to see her write?
