If you are seeing signs of a rust spot in your swimming pool, it is better to fix it sooner than latter. If not you may experience a comet effect. That is where the water keeps rusting the metal and it runs in a straight line until it is stopped. Often causing more expensive repairs and larger plaster or pebble patches. You always want to hire a licensed San Diego pool contractor.

What is pool rust, and how do we fix it?

Pool rust comes from a couple of different sources. The first being the rebar that is considered the skeleton of the pools shell. The next thing that causes visible pool rust is the tie wire that they use to attach the rebar together. When the tie wire is left to close to the pools surface, it often times will cause rust to occur. Both of these types of pool rust repairs are similar. They are both repaired in the same manner and they both cause the same cosmetic problems with your pool finish.

There are seldom times were pool rust occurs from people. Yes people. But it is not what you think. People get the idea to take metal toys and other metal objects (basketball hoops and umbrella stands) into the pool. Nails, screws from home projects and much more. Never leave anything metal in the swimming pool. The chemicals are sure to destroy it and leave damage on the pool itself.

When making any San Diego pool rust repair services, we always determine the extent of the damage. You never want to leave any rust underground. If you do, it will cause the rust to re-appear over a short period of time. Once the extent of damage is determined, we will remove all of the material so that we expose the rusted out section. Once the old rusted section is removed, we will coat the metal with a rust proofing spray. This is not necessary, it is just another step that we take to make sure the job was done to the best of our abilities.

Now that the pool rust spot is cut out and protected, we will fill the patch with concrete. Leaving enough room for repairing the pool surface material. Depending on the type of pool finish you have, will determine the final appearance of the patch that is made. This is due to the fact that existing pool surfaces change and not always are the colors going to match. We do everything in our power to try and make it as un noticable as possible.

San Diego pool coping repairs explained by a licensed pool coping contractor

Pool coping is what connects the pool deck to the swimming pool itself. It is usually made up of a natural stone, brick or a poured concrete option. Because they are on the surface of the swimming pool deck makes them more dangerous. If a piece of pool coping was to shift, or break and someone falls near a pool, it can be a problem. San Diego pool coping repairs are not usually that costly. If there are only a few pieces that need repair, you can usually get these repairs made for a few hundred dollars. If there are large areas of pool coping that is damaged, we will advise you on your options. Sometimes the option for doing a new pool coping installation can be more cost effective. Whenever there are options, we will be sure to provide you with anything needed for you to make to best decision.

Due to the severity, 75% of this side of the spa was removed and repaired. This is considered a larger San Diego pool coping repair. Most are not this in depth. Once the stone pool coping is set back in place, we will let it set up for the rest of the day and grout tomorrow. We always make sure that our repairs our done properly the first time. Giving the time to let the thin set cure will make for a better and longer bond. This is a quartz pool coping with leaks. There is a sand stone pool coping and it has a problem where it breaks down. The sand based stone will disintigrate or flake off in pieces. Over time, you will need to perform a pool coping repair or a complete pool coping replacement.

San Diego pool remodeling explained by licensed, professional pool contractors

If you live in San Diego and have a swimming pool, then you know that the entire summer is going to be spent in the pool. Due to the great temperatures and the outdoor relaxed San Diego living, a swimming pool in your backyard is a great investment. Swimming pools also play a big part in bringing friends and family together. It gives you a great place to gather while the kids swim and the adults relax. A pool is also a great resource that helps parents keep their kids around as they grow up.

With all of the great things a swimming pool has to offer, over time, they will need to have maintenance performed on them. This helps keep them looking good and also being safe for the people using it. On a rough average, a swimming pool remodel takes place every ten to twenty years. This time frame is wide because not everyone will perform a San Diego pool remodel the minute it starts to look bad. Others always want the pool in pristine condition and the cosmetic value is very important.

If you live in San Diego and your swimming pool is in need of a pool remodel or any pool restoration, we can help.

When is the best time to perform a San Diego pool remodeling project?

In San Diego, the best time to do a pool remodel is late summer or in the spring. We perform partial and complete pool remodels throughout the entire year in San Diego and these seem to be the best times. There are only few days or situations that prevent us from working. This topic is only giving pool owners a idea of how certain times of year are better than others.

Starting your San Diego pool remodeling project in the late summer after the kids have gone back to school. This is a good time due to the rains have yet to start and the temperatures are ideal for the pool finish. The spring is also a good time due to the rains have often stopped and the temperatures then are also mild. The last thing you want is to have a pool plaster or pebble pool finish installed, and have there be a problem down the road. Everything Swimming Pools always looks at all scenarios to ensure that the customer has a properly finished project and we do not have to worry about future pool surface repairs.

Performing San Diego pool remodeling projects during the other parts of our year are not so drastic. In the winter as long as there is not to much rain or it is to cold, we can and do pool remodels. The middle of summer is sometimes so hot that the pool surface can dry out if certain conditions and preparations are not taken. We feel like keeping an open communication with our customers allows us to provide them with the best overall product.

A lot of people call or Email asking us if it is cheaper in the winter, all the time. We believe in offering a fair price for the work that we perform and the quality of professionalism that we provide. Our prices are the same one month to the next, and we believe you will find it to be very competitive. You will also find that the customer service is top notch. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a San Diego pool remodeling estimate, we can help. Give us a call or fill out our contact form so we can contact you.

Pool tile, pool coping and other additions have no issues in any type of climates.

Thanks to the amazing weather, we are lucky to have the ability to provide pool remodeling along with other pool services all year around. There is a large majority of swimming pools in San Diego that can use the pool all year long. They are assisted with having pool solar panels, but they really get to extend the swim season. No matter what the time of year or the weather outside, give us a call if you have any questions or need help with your swimming pool.

This San Diego pool leak repair was difficult for multiple reasons. All of the swimming pool plumbing was tied in to a four foot section. This made finding the leak more like exploratory surgery. Because so many pipes were right there, we had to inspect each area carefully to find all of the swimming pool leaks. There was the pool skimmer, the pool auto fill and multiple pipes for the additional water feature.

Everything Swimming Pools works on all types of San Diego pool leak repair projects. We perform this pool service because we are licensed San Diego swimming pool contractors. This type of pool repair is common and is often performed along with other
pool remodeling or pool restoration services. If you have a leak in
your swimming pool, we can help.

Our process for finding and fixing this specific San Diego pool leak repair

The first step we needed to take with this San Diego pool leak repair was to remove all of the soil around the affected area. This will allow us access to the pipes that lead back to the swimming pool. Again this was a tough pool repair due to the fact that all of the pools plumbing was centered around this small area. As we would reach a new pipe, we would need to be very careful not to damage anything that does not need repair. Removing soil around the affected area is pretty standard.

The tougher aspect is when you are trying to access each pipe and it is surrounded by concrete. The section of pipes that lead directly to the pool skimmer, auto fill and water feature are embedded in roughly 16-24 inches of concrete. This is the shell or structure of the swimming pool. Once we reached this point, we needed to start using a chisel or jack hammer to remove the concrete. With most San Diego pool leak repair projects it is not that common to find so many pipes set in one area. That is why most of these pool leak repairs are much easier to identify and repair.

This type of San Diego pool leak repair is an aspect of swimming pool construction. Your average San Diego pool service company is normally not educated on how to perform the work and you must have a state contractors license. That license needs to be a C-53 license. If you need help with a San Diego leak repair, we can help.

What we ended up doing for this San Diego pool leak repair

Once we find where the leak is coming from in the swimming pool, we can make all necessary repairs. This pool leak happened to be around the return plumbing of the water feature. That means that there was a small crack where the pool plaster finish covers the pipes. These water feature pipes are three inches around and the area of pool plaster that was leaking was only about a half an inch wide. That little bit of space between the pool plaster and the pipe caused the swimming pool to lose an inch or more of water each day. What we did with this San Diego pool leak repair was to chip out the existing plaster around the pipes. This allowed us to open up a big enough area so the pool repairs made would make a good bond. Once we had the area exposed, we were able to repair the pool plaster around the pipe. This was done by applying new pool plaster into the hollowed out area and then properly finishing the plaster around the pipe. This helps ensure that the pool leak is stopped and should not leak in the future.

This pool leak was due to the initial installation of the swimming pool plaster. When troweling the area around the pool pipes, they did not pay enough attention to make sure the pool plaster was packed well around the pipes. In turn we needed to remove part of this customers yard and chip out a large section of concrete. This can also happen when the ground settles or even when we have small earth tremors. So, if you notice that you are losing more water than normal, you might have a pool leak. If you believe there is a pool leak, you can test yourself to try and determine what is wrong. First you would turn off the pool equipment and fill the pool to a desired level. Then you would turn off your pool equipment for a few days to see if you still lose water. Then you would refill to a certain level and run the pool to see how much of a difference there is. That will let you gauge if it is a leak in the pool equipment. Another is to do a bucket test. You would fill up a bucket of water to the same level as the swimming pool water. Leave pool off and see if the pool loses more water than the bucket. If it does your losing water. One last thing that can be done is to have a pressure test performed or to have a pool leak detection performed.

The tree roots grew up between the pool tile and the pool coping, causing pressure to build. Once the pressure became to much, it caused the coping and the pool tile to pop off and upward. This is a very common problem that we find when performing pool tile repair in Peansquitos and other areas of San Diego. It is because most of the time there are either intrusive root formations or that the trees are simply planted to close to the swimming pools.

Regardless, we are always able to determine the problem that caused the damage and provide a professional solution for the necessary repairs. Everything Swimming Pools is a licensed swimming pool contractor that specializes in pool tile repair in Penasquitos and all other areas of San Diego County. If you have a swimming pool, always make sure that when planting keep in mind the type of tree and the way the root structure forms. Tropical plants and trees are usually the safer choices when putting near the swimming pool or spa.

Process for this pool tile repair in Penasquitos

When we first saw this pool tile repair in penasquitos, we did not know that it was necessarily caused by tree roots. Once we started to clean the affected area, it was very clear. There were tree roots that have separated the pool coping from the pool tiles where the two meet. Because of this, we needed to remove the affected coping sections so that we could remove the roots. This is so we can make the proper pool tile repairs without having problems with them in the future. Once we have removed the pool coping and cleaned out the affected area of tree roots, we can perfrom the necessary pool coping repair. Once those are set up, we can then start working on the pool tile repairs. That consists of cleaning the pool tiles surface, making sure there is good adhesion when setting the pool tiles. Once that is complete, we will start mixing the thin set to attach the tiles.

Due to the pool tiles not all being broken and that the customer had extras, we did not have to purchase anymore tile for the job. If there are broken pool tiles and you do not have any replacements, we will need to purchase what is needed. That means not always will there be a perfect match unless your pool tiles are a very common variety. So always keep that in mind if you have tiles falling off, try to keep them.

Now we can start setting this pool tile repair in Penasquitos. This consists of floating a new bed of thin set onto the surface of the pool and to the back of the pool tile. You never want to use silicone or any other similar products, they are only going to be a short term fix. They will fail again and usually very quickly or just not look right. Once we have set a bed of thin set, we can start attaching the pool tile back onto the section they fell off of.

Once the pool tile repair is all set in place, we will give it some time to set up before grouting everything. If you do not wait for the thin set to set up, you may loosen the pool tiles causing premature failure. After we have cleaned up all of the thin set and made sure that the pool tiles are set up, we can start prepping for grout. We always use the same color grout that you have on the rest of your swimming pool. Not always will it look exactly the same due to the age of the old grout but, it gives it the closest look possible. When grouting this pool tile repair in Penasquitos, we were sure to not just grout the pool tile but we also needed to grout the gap between the pool coping and pool tile. Below we will show you some more images of the grouting process on this pool tile repair in Penasquitos. If done correctly, your pool tile should last for many more years.

When 24 Hour Fitness decided to renovate the facility in UTC mall here in San Diego, we were offered to bid on the job. Due to our extensive knowledge of commercial facilities and how they work, we knew we could take care of it. Commercial pool plaster in San Diego is one of our specialties. We work in commercial facilities such as hotels, HOA’s, sports and fitness centers and more. With this comes a great understanding of how to work on a tight schedule around the other various trade professionals. Everything Swimming Pools is a San Diego based swimming pool contractor that specializes in pool remodeling, pool restoration and pool repair. When we found out that we got the job, they were already looking to have the work done soon. With that understanding, we were able to get the crews we needed to expedite this project ensuring that we would not delay the re grand opening of the facility or the swimming pool. Commercial pool plaster in San Diego is usually performed in the off season due to the high occupancy of the facilities and hotels we work with. The pool plastering process in San Diego does require the swimming pool plaster to cure for a short time before users can resume using the swimming pool. There is also a start up process that takes an average of three to four days to complete. During this time no one is able to use the pool. This is because after the pool plastering process is complete and the swimming pool is filled, we need to add specific chemicals to the water. These chemicals make the water unsafe to swim in though helps the overall condition of the pool plaster finish look it’s best when completed.

Below you can see that when the water is being filled into the swimming pool that there is a white powdery residue that is produced. This is the creme coat of the pool plaster releasing a by-product that needs to be brushed and vacuumed for the period of time necessary to remove it all. If not, it will reattach itself to the pool plaster surface causing the final appearance to be less than perfect.

Commercial pool plaster in San Diego | Some common concerns and issues we find with pool plaster

With commercial pool plaster in San Diego we often find damage that can be minimized. Issues such as staining, pool plaster delamination and spot etching are just a few. These are the most common and most detrimental to the commercial pool plaster in San Diego. With staining there is often issues with the types of chemicals being used along with the aggresive nature of the water. When water chemistry gets even slightly out of balance, you can encounter mineral or metal stains that will partially if not completely cover the plasters surface. The next is plaster delamination. This is when the thin surface layer peels off of the rest of the plasters surface. This happens due to age and the waters chemistry. There is nothing that can be done to fix this problem. Once the pool plaster has this happening, the only thing to be done is to install a new pool plaster finish. And the last issue is spot etching. This looks like little circular formations on the plaster. Often people mistake this for staining. It is not. This is when the pool plaster is starting to break down either due to age and materials or due to bad water chemistry. Bad water chemistry is the more likely problem and this is also not something that can be repaired. It would need to be re-surfaced.

Everything Swimming Pools is a licensed swimming pool contractor. We provide pool remodeling, pool restoration, pool repairs and pool services for all of San Diego County. This post is for a pool inspection in Serra Mesa, 92123. We provide these write ups for buyers and sellers of homes with swimming pools and spas. They offer a little insight into what we look for and what is reported on during a professional pool inspection process. We offer these pool inspection services because of the work we perform. This allows us to understand what may be wrong with a swimming pool or spa such as safety or structural concerns and equipment repairs.

This pool inspection in Serra Mesa, 92123 is one that has many areas of concern. We will provide a description and images of the problems found when we were performing our inspection. All pool inspections are different due to the pools age, location and by the way they were maintained. Some may have very few problems and others can have extensive need for pool restoration if not a complete pool remodel. Below is the specific information found at this pool inspection in Serra Mesa.

The first thing we noticed was the pool deck. The deck was cracked and had many areas around the swimming pool that were a safety concern. It would also be a significant expense to repair or replace. The pool deck problems were caused by old established trees that have a large intrusive root structure. When tree roots grow, they will often times raise concrete pool decks. This is a extreme case to where the roots have broken through most of the deck. Our recommendation was to either renovate the pool deck or to remove and turn it in to landscape or bedding areas.

The next thing we looked at is the pool tile. The pool tile on this pool had extensive damage also. There were broken tiles along with a large area of structural cracks. These structural cracks ran around a third if not more of the entire pool tile line. When this happens, the pool tile needs to be removed and the repairs need to be made to the bond beam. This is the concrete shell that forms the swimming pool. If not repaired properly, you may encounter more damage and the repair may fail sooner than later. Because of the age of this pool tile, you would need to have new pool tile installed. It is rare to find an old tile that would still be in stock. It is possible just not likely.

The next thing we found is that there was significant damage to the pool surface. This is a plaster pool finish that has multiple rust spots along with heavy calcium nodules that cause roughness to the surface. Due to the extent of damage on the plaster at this pool inspection in Serra Mesa, we highly recommend not doing a pool surface repair. The only logical thing to do is to have a new pool finish installed. If repairs were made, there will likely be other damage that occurs upon draining the water and exposing the damaged plaster.

Another thing we found at this pool inspection in Serra Mesa is a diving board. Most often, we recommend removing pool diving boards. This is due to the dangers they pose. Diving boards in this day and age can be a huge liability. This specific pool diving board also showed signs of rust that may cause it to fail under any weight or pressure.
They are not illegal though, they are not the safest thing around a swimming pool. If you have an older diving board, you would be better off removing it. There are pool slides that are much safer if you are looking for something to add to the excitement of swimming.

With the pool equipment, at this pool inspection in Serra Mesa, we did not find much. The pool time clock was older and showed some signs of rust but, was in good working condition. The pool filter was installed only a few years ago and looked to be in very good condition. The pool pump has had a motor replaced in the past few years and will definitely extend it’s life expectancy.

This is a Encinitas pool inspection that was performed for a prospective buyer. They wanted to have a complete understanding of the swimming pool and spa. This includes looking for any problems that might be safety or structural concerns along with any pool repairs needed. The buyer also wanted to have a better understanding on how the pool and spa operates and what is needed to keep them in good working order. By the end of the Encinitas pool inspection, this customer was comfortable with what was needed and felt good about the overall condition of the swimming pool and spa.

Below we will show pictures and explain what we found at this specific Encinitas pool inspection. Everything Swimming Pools offers these services because we are a licensed swimming pool contractor that specializes in pool remodeling and pool restoration. We are not just a backyard pool service company. Whenever you are thinking of buying a home with a swimming pool or spa, always make sure to have a professional pool inspection performed. We often find that when they are not, the buyer usually gets stuck with some unexpected costs due to damage or necessary repairs.

Encinitas pool inspection details

The pool surfaces at this particular Encinitas pool inspection were in good condition overall. The plaster was in fair condition though due to water chemistry or age had cosmetic issues. The issue is that the pool plaster has started losing it’s original color. This can be due to age though, if it is due to the conditioner levels in the water, it may also be causing damage. When the conditioner levels are to high, the plaster pool surface is compromised. The pool coping was a solid natural stone and was in good structural condition. The pool tile was also a solid natural stone and was solid. It did not have any loose, cracked or missing pieces. The swimming pool manual water fill and the pool skimmer were also in good working order.

The pool equipment at this Encinitas pool inspection was older except for the electrical system for the pool, spa, booster pump and lighting. The pool filter pump was a newer variable speed pool pump that was self operating without any automated controller. It did not show any signs of leaking. The spa booster pump was older, but had no signs of leaking. The pool filter was older and had some signs of breaking down but, was in good working order. The spa and pool heater was also the same age as the rest of the pool equipment, but was in good working order. The only issue we found with the pool heater was that the screen was really faint and hard to read.

At the end of the day, this is one of the few pool inspections that we have performed recently that has had a clean bill of health. Most of the time with our pool inspection process, we find that there are some if not many issues to be concerned about. It is always nice to give the prospective buyer that peace of mind about the swimming pool. After all, it is a large financial aspect of the overall property and value of the home.
