Well, another victim of Clear Care. I hope they will surely take it off the market soon!!! Well my story is I thought surely it had been 6 hrs the next morning when I woke up. Did i really not even sleep 6 hrs? I'm at 3 weeks now of still burning, stinging and itching. I have seen 2 Opticians(3 visits) and they both say it would have been healed by now if it were a burn so they think it is chronic dry eye!!!
Huh...not likely never had chronic dry eye before and just switched to these contacts/solution 5 weeks ago. After 3 visits with them finally they gave me a strong steroid. Only one day down, how many more to go? I wonder! I'm sure after reading these posts. Its a chemical burn. Thank you for this article.

I too am dealing with the mistake I made this morning. I have been wearing contacts for 20 years and been using this product for about 2 months. Sure, I read not to use the flat case... so I didn't. I also read that your contacts will be ready in 6 hours after being IN the special case, which they always are. However, because it said that you do not need to rinse with saline afterwards...I didn't purchase any. When I dropped my contact in the sink when putting it in, I grabbed the bottle and rinsed it off. So...as I sit here, still in pain, several hours later...I can sympathize with everyone who made the same mistake. Sorry guys! I am attracted to packaging and I had a coupon. I'm still probably going to use it because it was so damn expensive and it works very well. But, I am going to the store to buy some saline solution...as soon as I can see to drive.

To everyone who burned their eyes...

You should always talk to your eye doctor before you switch solutions. They can recommend the right one for your eye and type of lenses. Also, I'm sorry but you really should read the directions before you use anything that goes into such a sensitive place.

I've been wearing contacts since high school and have tried many different contact solutions. I had many eye infections and my contacts always felt itchy and painful. When my doctor prescribed Clear Care solution to me, he took the time to mention the 6 hour rule and explained not to put it directly in my eyes. I've been using it for 2 years and my contacts always feel great and aren't dry and sticky. Its's a great product when used correctly. I like to leave mine in longer then 6 hours because I have accidently burned my eyes before and yes it does hurt.

Nearly 18 hours later and my eyes are still killing me! I had been using Clear Care several weeks, but neglected to remember the "soak at least six hours" part - I was howling in pain all night. And honestly, to the people who felt the need to chime in, all smug and sneering, "read the directions, 'hooked on phonics' (WTF?), and other snide remarks: the last thing a person in pain wants is a self-righteous finger wagged in their face. And to the other folks who provided helpful information, sympathy, and all-around great advice, a big THANK you for your understanding! You are the people that made me feel so much better - in a time of extreme pain (the people who likened this to childbirth cracked me up, thanks for that smile)!

I think the best thing clear care can do is explain I. The front of the box that the case does more than just hold your lenses in an ideal position. No where even in the directions does it tell you that the case is more than a holder. It's special but not why. I had to find that info online in a blog. There's some kind of disc in it that neutralizes the peroxide. If I'd known that I never would have made the mistake. I thought that since the solution was so low (3% that it might sting a little but be ok. I dropped my contact and used a few drops to rinse the contact. Boy was I wrong and I spent needless time trying to fish out the contact only to find I dropped it again. Obviously I had to let them soak the full 6 hours. It's about 8 hours later. Eye still red but it's a little less puffy. Sounds like it'll be ok in a day or two. Glad I keep a spare ser of glasses around. And now I now to keep regular saline for when I drop my contacts.

I got this stuff on a recommendation from my optometrist, who was VERY careful to explain to me about leaving it in the case that was included with it for at least six hours, so I didn't have to rely on reading the packaging.

@ Jack Lyman - If you look at the case they provide, you'll see that there's a little grey wheel thing at the bottom. When you pour the solution in, it reacts with the coating or something on the wheel and neutralizes the solution. (Remember your high school chemistry lessons about neutralizing acids? It's exactly like that. Actually, it IS that.) You can tell it's working by the bubbles. It will actually take less than six hours when you first get the case, and will start taking longer around the time when you need to replace it.

My girlfriend just burned her eyes with that stuff, I've read all the comments about how great it is if you use it right....how exactly do you do that? We live in an RV at the moment (dont ask, financially tight) and my girl got this stuff, we read the directions, followed them--they are a bit confusing. The part about don't use with a regular flat case we just thought was some marketing (use our fancy case instead) type thing. What does the shape of your case matter? Then the 6 hour part etc....heres the thing for all you people calling everyone idiots, you may think your the smarter ones but the nature of your comments are telling me you cant tell the difference between something "obvious" and something you've learned, between assumption and facts and how you come by them. Ive never heard of peroxide based solutions, neither has my girl, we cant afford to run to an ophthalmologist, period. Those that can't tell assumption apart from fact are probably living in a reality constructed from prejudice, as assumptions are predicated on prejudice, those that think what they've learned is common knowledge and are oblivious to how they came by their knowledge are obviously not that concerned with how they assimilate information in the construction of their reality. For most of you that's not a very big deal as you have enough friends that all of you put together might form a checks and balances type deal so no-one believes anything too ridiculous. In todays world however, thats poor insurance. Food for thought. Anyway, how do you use this stuff properly if all you have is a flat case--is it even possible? What sort of case do you need, and what do you do with it after 6 hours, rinse it?

As a contact wearer with extensive allergies to other solutions and cleaners, Clear Care was my only option. If you cannot see for crap with your contacts out, I suggest you do as I do with my product bottles - I put neon or brightly colored duct tape around the ones that I don't want to accidently put in my eye. I have to use saline sparingly, so I do have a small bottle of it, and it does not have the (currently pink neon) duct tape on it. When you are nearly legally blind without contacts, that bright color sure sticks out and you don't make the same error the author of this page did. In 20+ years of using hydrogen peroxide-based cleaners (AO Sept for years before Clear Care), I have NEVER EVER put the wrong solution into my eye... just saying.

My roommate left his solution out and I ran out of my own so I naturally borrowed his because we share things. When I woke up and put my contact in, I burned my eye obviously. The label should of been in the front not on the back because the bottle looks like any other bottle of solution. It was extremely painful and my eye is bright red. Im lucky Im not blind.

I am an engineering student and this is just poor design. There are so many brands that don't burn your eyes so why is this even on the market? I made an honest mistake how could I know this was going to destroy my eye when it looks like any other bottle. Products are suppose to be designed so idiots can use them for maximum safety. That is part of a decent design. For those calling people like us idiots are extremely rude. I hope you will never make the mistake of applying a product wrong. This was awful and scary.

Thank God I found this site! I went on vacation this past weekend with my cousin and I forgot to bring my lens solution. I woke up Sunday morning, popped my lenses in and filled up my case with her solution (red tip? Cool! It isn't white! Neat-o!) I woke up this morning and put my lenses in. Those bitches had forty-eight hours to marinate in death serum. My ocular orbs felt like they were being melted out of my face. Of course my lenses never "stick" the first time, but they did this time. Suction cupped right onto my eyeball. I've never screamed so loudly or fallen to the floor so quickly and like "MyEffingEyeballBurns" said, it should TOTALLY be used as a form of torture. It was my first thought. I jammed my fingers into my eye to rip out the offending plastic and cried for a few minutes. I didn't put saline in my eyes because I had no idea what I had just put into my eyeballs. After a few hours I figured it out and ran out to CVS for some saline. This was over 12 hours ago and now my eye is scratching and my vision is blurring and fuzzing.

Fantastic.

I'm NEVER buying this again. I do not care how great it is. Anybody who tells me I should've "read the bottle" y'all are welcome to go play in traffic.

I would rather go through childbirth again...Twice. That stuff is Satan in a bottle. I'm thinking about putting it in a small spray bottle and carrying it around in my purse in replace of my pepper spray. It's been more than 24 hours and it still feels like needles are being shoved into my eye everytime I blink. Screw waterboarding and prying off fingernails, the government should use this to torture their victims, I am absolutely positive it would work everytime. I too bought this in a rush thinking it was regular saline. FML.

I too suffered this just today, few hours ago, been wearing contacts for 35 years, all types of brands of solutions... trying to get ready for work with no time to decipher all the writing... the burning is incredible, makes a sizzling noise... I did read the label 'after'... says "#1 in comfort" on it... no warnings about burning, no red... bought it month ago so looked at the date, still good until 2013... went to Fred Meyers just today to get to the Kroger Generic brand multipurpose saline solution, noticed this Clear Care right with all the rest, and cheaper priced and on-sale... almost was drawn to buy it again, after all, name brands probably work better than generic brands, I thought... didn't see any warnings on the ones on the shelf... my eyes are still burning, periodic cool water seems to help the most... after reading most the blogs above, seems like about 3500 negative and 3 positives for this stuff... they're a Big Pharmaceutical, probably don't care, got everyone's money at least once... also helping out the economy via eye doctors, and this blog site... might help out some lawyers too... I doubt FDA cares either... wonder if any lawyers are started on this one yet...

i did this yesterday. it was horrible. it looks like pink eye and i woke up this morning thinking that i would be blind or something. i thought it was tooth paste because i brushed my teeth before hand .. it wasn't. then i thought since i am a scrapbooker that it was the glitter i was just using .. it wasn't. when i finally realized that the solution was burning away at my eye, i immediately flushed it with water. it helped the pain but my eye is still red right now. >,<

I don't care the described uses of this product. If it is related to eye care, it shouldn't almost blind you...it felt like pigeon urine got into my eye...I let the lens' soak for well over 6 hours, then put my left lens in...felt like Hell on earth minus the pointy tailed devil laughing...I was lucky to get the lens out quickly as I was closing my eyes so tight in the process from the pain. Something is wrong with this product and as a pretty crappy attorney, I still am going to look into this...this is pain that has flown under the radar and the genius who is responsible for placing this eye acid on the drug store shelf needs to pay...if not financially, then let me put a couple of drops in his/her eyes!
